Hello parishioners of Sacred Heart Parish! I am Father Andrew Dickinson, please call me Father Andrew. I en-joy giving my patron saint, the Apostle St. Andrew, as much atten-tion as I can because I need the intercession! I am very happy and humbled to be your new pastor, following Father Mark Lichter. I enjoy cooking (eating), running, music, cycling, golf but I don’t compete in many sports because I am a bad loser. I could say more, but, then, you’ll know too much and won’t pay attention to my homilies. Born in raised in Yankton, SD, I was baptized, confirmed, and offered my first Mass in Sacred Heart Parish of Yankton. My parents, David and JoAnne raised me with a deep faith in the Lord Jesus. I joke that my beard is my 2nd favorite inheritance from my dad- my 1st being his faith! My dad passed away in 2006 but you will see my mom from time to time as she comes to visit. I have one brother. He is a better Catholic than I am. He is married and lives in Omaha with 5 wonderful children. You think I’m joking that he is a better Catholic than me? Just wait until they come to visit! In addition to being your pastor at Sacred Heart, Bishop DeGrood asked me to continue doing spiritual direction work at Broomtree outside Irene, SD. I am in the midst of directing a 30 day silent retreat, from July 1-July 30th. I’ll be in regular contact with our parish staff and Father Kapperman. Look for regular video updates from me at our Facebook and Youtube pages. 14 days ago we had the nativity of St. John the Baptist. This cousin of Jesus and biblical figure is a great model of how I hope to lead you at Sacred Heart. Whether he was in the darkness of the womb of his mother, Elizabeth, (Luke 1:39-44), or when he was on the shores of the Jordan river (John 1:29-34), at all times John the Baptist could recognize and respond to the presence of Jesus. My prayer is that we may all grow to constantly and consistently recognize and respond to Jesus.

From the Pastor

Sacred Heart Parishioners, It is with joy that I once again introduce myself. I am Fa-ther Michael Kapperman and I am the new associate at

the parish. When I got the call from Bishop DeGrood, I was overjoyed because I remember fondly my time at Sa-cred Heart back in January of 2017. During that time I was stuck by the faith of the parishioners at Sacred Heart. I felt at home during those three weeks that I spent in Aberdeen, and now I am excited that Aberdeen is my new home. Let me share some biographical information with you again. I grew up on a farm just south of Hartford. There my parents raised my three brothers and I. Growing up, my brothers and I played a lot of sports and got into a lot of trouble. I graduated from West Central in 2010 and then I attended Dakota State University where I played foot-ball for two years and majored in Secondary Math Education. During my junior year of college I rediscovered my faith and fell radically in love with Christ and His Church. During that same year I first encountered my vocation to become a priest. I graduated from DSU in spring of 2014 and then entered the Saint Paul Seminary in St. Paul, MN where I have been ever since. Since the recent assignment changes were announced, people have asked me, “Are you excited for your first as-signment?” This question is hard to answer because the word “excited” doesn’t quite describe the emotion. Of course I’m exited to be a priest, of course I’m excited to be assigned to Aberdeen, but it is more than “excitement.” I’d say the word “awe” is the better descriptor of what I’m feeling. I’m awed over God’s work in our diocese, in the people and clergy of the diocese, and in my own life. Lord, you have done so much in our lives. I pray that we may be docile to the way that you are leading us. Give us a heart like yours that is on fire with love. In Christ, Father Michael Kapperman

From the Parochial Vicar

HOMEBOUND MINISTRY CORNER

God’s blessings! Happy Independence Day! I would like to encourage everyone in our parish to write to our home-bound parishioners in our area nursing homes. They would really love to hear from you. I have a list of their names or you could call the activity director in each nurs-ing home for names. Let us be creative in our effort to make them feel remembered and loved. Thank you! Chi-ara

Summertime Faith Formation Mass Hymns

A worship aid may be found in the myParish App under the ‘Worship’ button

Processional:

Christ is alive! Let Christians sing. His cross stands empty to the sky. Let streets and homes with praises ring. His love in death shall never die. Christ is alive! No longer bound to distant years in Palestine, By saving, healing, here and now, And touch every place and time.

Responsorial Psalm I will praise your name forever, my king and my God.

Recessional:

For the healing of the nations, Lord, we pray with one accord; for a just and equal sharing of the things that earth affords. To a life of love and action help us rise and pledge our word. Lead us now, Lord, into freedom, from despair your world release, that, redeemed from war and hatred, all may come and go in peace. Show us how, through care and goodness, fear will die and hope increase.
