SACRED HEART PARISH IS SEEKING A DIRECTOR OF MUSIC

Sacred Heart Catholic Church has an opening for a full-time Director of Music. The successful applicant will work as a

vital part of the parish staff team to bring the parish vision of ‘Inviting Everyone to Passionately Live the Gospel’ to

realization, specifically through the work of sacred music. Tasks include coordinating music to enhance the liturgical

services of the parish, including selecting music, playing the organ and piano for liturgies, directing choirs, coordinating

cantors and accompanists, and maintaining the pipe organ and piano. A full job description can be found

at sacredheartaberdeen.net/employment-opportunities. Interested candidates are asked to send a copy of their resume and an accompanying cover letter to Fr. Mark Lichter, Pastor of Sacred Heart, at [email protected], or by

mail to 502 2nd Ave SE Aberdeen, SD 57401.

Greetings! We reflect on the virtue of humility this week-end. I looked up the word in Wikipedia and found: “Humility, in various interpretations, is widely seen as a virtue which centers on low self-preoccupation, or unwill-ingness to put oneself forward, so it is in many religious and philosophical traditions, it contrasts with narcissism, hubris and other forms of pride…” This is in direct contrast to any false humility or self-debasement that does not recognize that we are sons and daughters of God. The term “humility” comes from the Latin word humilitas, a noun related to the adjec-tive humilis, which may be translate as “humble”, but also as “grounded”, or “from the earth”, since it derives from humus (earth). It reminds me of the Book of Job where “naked I came into the world and naked I will leave the world”. We can also think of the Lenten Season where we receive the ashes on our forehead and are reminded that, “we are dust and to dust we shall return”. The point would be that we acknowledge God as our Creator and that we are creatures. We Know who we are before God our Creator. In the Funeral Rite for Vigils, we hear the prayer, “Lord our God, the death of our brother/sister recalls our human condition and the brevity of our lives on earth. But for those who believe in your love death is not the end, nor does it destroy the bonds that your forge in our lives.” We ask God to give us humility and wisdom to know the shortness of our lives on earth and to live accordingly. For the next two weekends we will be pre-selling meal tickets for our Parish Bazaar. For a reduced price of $9 you can buy your tickets ahead of time for the delicious meal we will be serving. Our Bazaar this year is on Sunday, September, 15th

beginning at 10:30am and going until 7:00pm. Consider buying extra tickets for those in need or for those who are friends and family. Invite as many people to our Bazaar from your neighborhood and work place. This weekend expect to see our parish staff manning the table in the east entry way! Looking forward to a wonderful Bazaar and parish community builder! God bless you this week! Fr. Mark
