On palm Sunday, a week before Easter, the Catholic Church recalls Jesus’ messianic entrance into Jerusalem before his crucifixion. As Jesus rode into the city on a donkey, the Jews gathered around him, throwing cloaks and palms branches on the road and exclaiming praises as he passed by.

Chrism Mass Bishop Daniel E. Flores will celebrate the annual Chrism Mass at 6:30pm on Tuesday, April 16 at the Basilica of Our Lady of San Juan del Valle-National Shrine. During this Mass the priests, deacons and representatives of the diocesan community gather with the bishop, who blesses the holy oils– the oils of the sick, the oil of the catechumens and the sacred Chrism-for use in the coming year. The entire assembly is called to renew their baptismal promises. Priests and deacons also reaffirm their ministry by renewing the promises made at their ordination. All are invited to attend this sacred liturgy.

Misa Crismal El Obispo Daniel E. Flores celebrará la Misa Crismal anual a las 6:30p.m. el jueves 16 de abril en la Basílica de Nuestra Señora de San Juan del Valle (Santuario Nacional). Durante esta misa, los sacerdotes, diáconos y representantes de la comunidad diocesana se reúnen con el obispo, quien bendice los santos óleos—el óleo de los enfermos, el óleo de los catecúmenos y el Santo Crisma– para utilizarlos en el año siguiente. Toda la asamblea es llamada a renovar sus promesas bautismales. Sacerdotes y diáconos también reafirman su ministerio mediante la renovación de las promesas hechas en su ordenación. Sacred Heart Church is one of fourteen parish communities and five mission churches administered by the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary throughout the

United States. Here in the Diocese of Brownsville, the Sacred Hearts Community serves at Queen of Peace in Harlingen and Sacred Heart Church including Capilla de San Jose mission.

Within our diocese, we currently provide for the diocesan seminarian program, but there are no collections to support the formation of the future pastors of our parish - Sacred Hearts priests.

Our newly arrived Associate Pastor, Fr. Jeremy Sabugo is the most recently ordained member of the Sacred Hearts Community. He was ordained to priesthood in November 2017. There is a brother in Massachusetts who was ordained a transitional Deacon earlier this year, and prayerfully, he will be ordained to priesthood later this year. In addition to our brother Deacon in Massachusetts, there are three seminarians fulfilling their pastoral year of formation in parish communities located in California and Hawaii. That leaves eight seminarians currently enrolled in the Pacific Regional Seminary fulfilling their educational requirements and continued formation for priesthood in the religious community of the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary.

As many of you are aware, we do submit collections for the diocesan seminarian fund, but none of these collections support the future priests of our parish. This is why our parish community will be hosting a fundraiser to support our future Sacred Hearts priests on Saturday, April 27, 2019 beginning at 6:30 p.m. in our Parish Hall. The cost per person is $20 and includes a sumptuous dinner, raffle drawings, dancing and a lot of "Sacred Heart" fun!

The annual expense of a Sacred Hearts seminarian is $20,000, so if you are unable to join us, we ask that you consider making a pledge to support the formation of our future Sacred Hearts priests. More information contact Fr. Kumar at the parish office. Thank you for your support and prayers!

La Iglesias del Sagrado Corazón es una de las catorce Iglesias y cinco misiones administradas por la Congregación de los Sagrados Corazones de Jesus y María en los Estados Unidos. La congregación de los Sagrados Corazones están al cargo pastoral de la iglesia Reyna de la Paz en Harlingen, la iglesia del Sagrado Corazón y la Misión de Capilla San José en la Diócesis de Brownsville.

Nuestro reciente y nuevo Sacerdote Padre Jeremy Sabugo, SS.CC es el padre mas reciente que se ha ordenado en la Comunidad de los Sagrados Corazones. El fue ordenado al Sacerdocio en Noviembre del 2017. A los pr incipios de esta año, en Massachusetts fue ordenado un diácono de transición; al fin del año será ordenado al Sacerdocio. Junto con nuestro hermano diácono en Massachusets contamos con tres seminaristas que terminarán su año pastoral de formación en las comunidades localizadas en California y Hawaii. Después contaremos con ocho seminaristas que actualmente están registrados en el Seminario Regional del Pacifico para completar sus estudios requeridos para su formación al sacerdocio en la vida religiosa de la comunidad de la Congregación de los Sagrados Corazones de Jesús y María.

We are united with the family of Wendy Colunga who joyfully celebrated her quinceañera last weekend. As you grow in faith Wendy we pray that you will continue to trust in God's love and sup-port for you. We grieve with the families who recently buried their loved ones from our parish. We pray that Daniel Jesus Villa, Cruz Irma Rodriguez, Lucinda Luna, Avelina Espinoza, Maria Elsa “Elsie” Perez, and Michael Mendoza will enjoy their eternal re-ward with God and will intercede to God that their families here on earth will keep faith until we all meet again in Christ.

¿Cuántas veces has escuchado a alguien “Te lo digo, Pedro, antes de que el gallo cante este día, negarás tres veces que me conoces. REFLEXIONES DE April 14, 2019 - Palm Sunday “I tell you, Peter, before the cock crows this day, you will deny three times that you know me.” (Luke 22:34) How many times have you heard someone make a dis-paraging comment about Jesus or our Catholic faith? How did you react? Do you remain quiet not to cause a disturbance? Or, do you remain quiet because you believe people will think negatively about you? Pray for the courage to speak up and enter into a respect-ful dialogue when the opportunity arises.
