The parentheses are placed at the end of a sentence, between the last word and the period. If you are quoting material directly, the parentheses should go between the closing quotation mark and the period:
“The chicken came before the egg” (Calabretta 12).
Rule 2: Placement if you paraphrase
The parentheses are placed at the end of a sentence, between the last word and the period. :
The chicken came before the egg (Calabretta 12).

IF it is on your works cited page, there must be at least one reference to that source in the text of your paper

If you cite a work in the text of your paper, it MUST be in your works cited page
