ACT Exam for Juniors Wed 4/19 Start time of 7:30 am The MN Department of Education mandates that we offer the ACT Plus Writing test to all students in grade 11 on Wednesday, April 19, at 7:30 AM. This is a great opportunity for our students to take the test in a familiar environment at no cost to them.
STUDENTS IN GRADES 9, 10 & 12 WILL WORK ON
SCHOOLOGY ASSIGNMENTS – FROM HOME – ON APRIL 19
In order to meet the needs of nearly 1,000 juniors who will be taking the assessment, students in grades 9, 10 & 12 will be doing lessons on Schoology at home. More information to follow. The ACT Plus Writing test will take approximately 5 hours to administer. Grade 11 students will have the option of eating lunch and remaining in school until the end of the day or leaving school after they have completed testing. High school bus routes will run as usual on April 19 so students who need to use school transportation to get to and from school will be able to do so.
Note different start time
ACT Day Goes Digital
Planning is underway in preparation for a Digital Learning Day at our high schools for ACT
Testing. Typically, students in grades 9, 10 & 12 miss a day of instruction while 11th graders
participate in ACT Testing. This year, we will utilize our digital learning tools to provide online
lessons for all high school students. This opportunity will provide students the ability to work
from home or anywhere they have internet access to complete their assigned school work for the
day.
Over the course of the next few weeks, each high school will receive a presentation from their
Digital Learning Specialist describing the plan for the day.

After School Building Hours:
In order to improve safety within our school and confines of Community Education Supervisory roles, we have two minor changes to communicate to parents and students about after school time at RHS: All students staying after school must be in the commons in plain sight of the Community Ed Supervisor (not under the stairs) unless they are with an adult in a classroom or other space with permission.
All students not with an adult or in a school activity must be out of the building by 5:00pm.

MCA Testing In April
The Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCAs) and alternate
assessment, Minnesota Test of Academic Skills (MTAS), are the
statewide tests that help districts measure student progress toward
Minnesota's academic standards and meet the requirements of the
Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). The tests are ad-
ministered every year to measure student performance relative to the
Minnesota Academic Standards that specify what students in a particu-
lar grade should know and be able to do.
Each student receives a score that falls in one of four achievement lev-
els: Does Not Meet the Standards, Partially Meets the Standards,
Meets the Standards and Exceeds the Standards
The testing schedule is as follows:
MCA Reading (10th Grade): April 3-5 - Most Sophomores will test in
their assigned English class.
MCA Math (11th Grade): April 3-5 - Most Juniors will test in their
assigned Math class
MCA Science: April 27-18 - Students who have BIology or AP Biolo-gy will test in their Biology class
Students must bring their charged Chromebooks to class

RHS has a new tool to help students explore college and career options.
The Minnesota Career Information System (MCIS) is an Internet-based system that combines a wealth of career, educational and labor market information into one com-prehensive, easy-to-use exploration tool. With MCIS, stu-dents and clients can:
Learn about over 520 occupations Develop a personal portfolio and personal learning
plan Research colleges, universities and career schools Find scholarships and financial aid Improve job search skills and create a resume Students set up accounts and took an interest inventory on 2/17. The website is https://mncis.intocareers.org. A link to the website and log in information is posted under the “RHS Counseling and Guidance” course on Schoology. This is a great resource to explore college and career possibili-ties with your student. Please contact Jacy Shrestha, Coun-selor and College and Career Specialist, with any questions.

Kendra Bolster and Allie Roberts win Gold Medal Awards in the National 2017 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.
The Alliance for Young Artists & Writers announced the national winners of the 2017 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, the nation's longest-running and most prestig-ious recognition program for creative teens in grades 7–12. More than 330,000 works of art and writing were submitted for adjudication at the regional level in the Awards’ 28 categories, which include po-etry, painting, architecture, short story, fashion design and more. Less than 1% were recognized at the national level. On-ly 13 students from Minnesota were awarded with Gold Medals.
Submissions are judged based on the pro-gram’s three criteria: originality, technical skill and emergence of personal vision or voice. Student works are first adjudicated regionally through the more than 100 local Affiliates of the Alliance. Regional winners receiving Gold Keys, Silver Keys, Honorable Mentions or American Visions & Voices Nominations are celebrated within their communities through local exhibitions and ceremonies.
Gold Key–winning works are then judged nationally by an impressive panel of crea-tive-industry experts to receive Gold, Sil-ver, American Visions & Voices, Portfolio Silver with Distinction or Portfolio Gold Medals. This program year, more than 1,900 of the most talented teens from 47 U.S. states, Washington, D.C. and Ameri-can schools abroad received national recognition and gained access to exhibi-tion and publication opportunities, as well as scholarships.
In June, National Award-winning teens from across the country will gather in New York City to attend the National Celebra-tion series of events in their honor, hosted by the Alliance. This celebration will kick off on June 7th and the students are invit-ed to attend a ceremony at Carnegie Hall on June 8th. The students will also be in-vited to see all of the student work on display in galleries in New York City. The student art works will travel the U.S. for up to two years.
