Whitchurch Civic Centre

Whitchurch Civic Centre was a rundown community centre operating at a loss and hosting mediocre events. Whitchurch Town Council came to Greenspace Architects, whom I was sub-contracted out to, to bring life back into their town centre located building and give it a new lease of life.

This was certainly done by creating a multi-purpose hall which could easily accommodate wedding parties along with providing a suitable space for theatre productions to take place, allowing for revenue to be made. The drab and dated reception area was also redesigned to include all the commodities you would expect in a modern-day community hub and included a bar, food court and coffee bar. Additionally, to increase business in the local area, suites where provided on the first floor level allowing for professional business meetings to take place in a community hub.

Architectural elements were specified in the form of a spherical clock where you could tell the time from both the outside and inside, regardless of which floor level you were on.

All in all, the redevelopment of this building allows a new lease of life to be brought to the town of Whitchurch whilst aiding in exemplifying its future.

Muskoday

The Muskoday project was based in Ellesmere, North Shropshire and had a brief to link the garage and house together along with providing an additional room to the rear. The clients stipulated from the outset that a simple house extension was not what they required. Instead they wished to make a mark on their new home by incorporating architectural flare into their otherwise standard 1990’s home.

The brief was met by providing additional living space on the ground floor through a glazed ‘link’ between the existing house and the garage with an additional light and airy single storey extension to the rear. Other design elements which the client was overjoyed with included a balcony area off the master bedroom with access via a spiral staircase from the garden area.

To meet the brief of incorporating architectural flare, toughened glazed walk-on panels were built into the roof of the single storey extension and formed part of the floor for the balcony area. This also allowed a heightened sense of openness whilst ensuring natural lighting levels where maximised.

My role within this project included initial site survey with key dimensions, existing construction type and photographs being taken. I also aided in producing the BIM models for this particular project allowing for the working drawings to be produced.

The Pippins project has provided myself with an excellent environment to fully understand the necessary requirements for modern living from a form and function perspective.

The clients already possessed an image of how they would like their proposed house to look like, but lacked the foresight to fully realise their dream of a modern home.

I aided in the design of architectural elements regarding the facade and inner circulation space. The client’s where keen to harness natural light so we incorporated design features which allowed for this commodity to be exploited.

This was effectively achieved in the circulation space around the stairwell. I did this through liaising with the client and creating BIM’s in front of them, showing how different elements altered their style of living. A happy pair of clients was the end result of this project.
