AAS Program Overview
Program of Study
Year 1 – Prerequisites typically take 3 to 6 terms to complete
Year 2 – Accepted students complete 1st year online theory, on-campus laboratory, and clinical experiences courses (includes summer term).
Year 3 – Accepted students complete 2nd year online theory, on-campus laboratory and clinical experience courses with Cooperative Education practicum in the final term.

The Respiratory Care Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (www.coarc.com).
The Respiratory Care Program provides an integrated online/hands-on course of study.

Clinical rotations begin spring term of the first year, and require the student to complete 24 hours per week (two twelve-hour shifts) at a clinical site under the direction of a preceptor and a 144 hour Cooperative Education practicum, resulting in 1100 hours of supervised clinical instruction in a program affiliated site.

Program requirements are subject to change each year.
Application typically opens mid Winter term and closes mid Spring term for the following Fall entry.
Enrollment is typically limited to 25 Lane County and 5 out of county students per year.
Acceptance decisions are based on minimum requirements and points earned in the application process.
Minimum requirements to applyBe admitted to Lane as a Credit Student with an assigned
L number.
Review all application materials and complete Respiratory Care application process.
Complete the following courses – HO 100, BI112/CH112 or CH 100 level or higher, BI 231 (points deducted for each no pass, withdraw, D or F grade Winter 2011 or later), MTH 095 or higher and WR 121.
Courses completed at other institutions must be considered equivalent or substituted with an approved course.

Math application and program requirement
The program requirement for RC is MTH 095 Intermediate Algebra
Students must demonstrate and complete MTH 095 or higher prior to date of application.
Prerequisite is placement testing into MTH 095 or completion of MTH 065 Elementary Algebra or 070 Introductory Algebra.
• Courses completed at other schools must be considered equivalent or be approved for use in the application.
Sequence of courses to prepare for MTH 095

• A Score of 7 or higher MTH 010A Whole, Numbers Fractions and Decimals 3
• B Score of 7 or higher MTH 020 Math Renewal 3
• C Score of 7 or higher MTH 060 or higher 4
• E1,E2 Scores See placement test results – may place into MTH 060, 065 4
or 095 Intermediate Algebra PTA Program requirement
• F Score of 14 or higher MTH 105 or MTH 111 College Algebra – can be used to meet the
RC application points or program requirement.
Sequence is as follows: MTH 010, MTH 020, MTH 060, MTH 065 to MTH 095
Grading and Additional Requirements
All courses used must be completed with a grade of C- or higher. Courses with a grade of C- can be used to meet application or program requirements but will not be eligible for application points.
Points will be awarded in the application for completion of the following courses: HO 100, WR 121 or higher, CH 112 or CH 100 level or higher, BI 231, BI 232, BI 233 & BI 234, specific health care experience and/or prior degree(s) –see application point sheet for more information.
A’s are worth more than B’s.
Higher level math and/or chemistry is worth additional points.
Writing Requirement
WR 121: Introduction to Academic Writing or higher. Required to apply. Placement testing or WR 115 is the prerequisite for WR 121
Higher course options include: WR 122, WR 123 or 227.
Students with a Bachelor’s degree will receive application points equivalent to students with a grade of A. Must submit official transcript as verification.
Courses completed at other schools must be considered equivalent or be approved for use in the application.
Specific courses that expire
For Fall 2013 Entry…
•BI 233 must be completed Fall 2006 or later for Fall 2013 entry.
•CH 112 or CH 100 level or higher must be completed Fall 2006 or later
•BI 234 must be completed Fall 2006 or later
•Courses completed at other schools must be considered equivalent or be approved for use in the application.
Medical Terminology
HO 100 Medical Terminology or equivalent course – is required to apply
Recommended as a first term course.
Course options are traditional in-person, telecourse (on cable TV) and Online.

Health Science options Human Anatomy and Physiology sequence: BI 231,232, 233 & BI
234 (Microbiology) meet the RC Program Health Science course(s) requirement. BI 231 is required to apply.
Prerequisite courses for BI 231 are BI112/CH112 Biology and Chemistry for Health Occupations. The prerequisite for CH 112 is completion of MTH 052 or higher or placement tests part D or higher.
CH 112 or CH 100 level or higher to meet the Chemistry requirement for the RC Program.

Prior college courseworkSome students may have coursework that will allow
them to gain entry into the BI112/CH112 or BI 231 courses
If you have prior math or science (Biology or Chemistry) course work - take unofficial transcripts to the Science Department office or call 541-463-5446
The department representative will determine if the courses you have taken will give you access to BI 112/CH112 or BI 231 Human Anatomy and Physiology 1.
Or, she will refer you to an instructor to evaluate if your courses can be approved for equivalency or substitution.
Human Relations CourseHuman Relations course options selected for the RC
Program are CG 203 Human Relations at Work, CG 191 Issues in Cultural Diversity or HO 102 Diversity Issues in Health Care.
Students need to select one 3 credits or more course option to meet the program requirement.
Courses completed at other schools must be considered equivalent to meet the requirement. See the Transfer Advising Guide. In some cases a course(s) may have to be approved by the program coordinator.
Arts and Letters
Preferred Courses:SP 111 Fundamentals of Public Speaking, SP 115 Introduction to Intercultural Communication, SP 218 Interpersonal Communication or SP220 Communication, Gender or Culture.
OROne 3 credit or more course - Select course that meets the subject criteria as provided under Arts & Letters Lane Catalog page 48.
Health Requirement
Health 275 – Lifetime Health and Fitness
OR3 credits of PE
Application Process
• Couse work completed Winter term and before will be eligible for use in the application for points.
• Application deadline is typically mid Spring term.
• Class size for entry is typically 30 students.
• Candidates are selected from the submitted applications based on a points earned from coursework, work experience and prior degrees.
