This week’s speakers were Aaron Nicholls and Phillip Nielsen from Regional Design Service. Aaron is the Director of Business and Phillip is the Design Director/Architect for Regional Design Service, the new design/architects in Sanger Street, Corowa. Aaron and Phillip spoke about the move to the country and becoming the first Architects in Corowa for 45 years, since A.C. MacKnight. The firm opened offices at 127 Sanger St and have concentrated on bringing quality services to the community and surrounding areas. They chose the main street as it has good exposure and has resulted in a 30% rate of walk in clients and enquiries. They are designing a variety of projects from houses and residential work to community projects and businesses. (The one our club knows the most is the Potts’ Taj Mahal) Both Aaron and Phillip spoke of giving back to the local area and pushing the boundaries of design. They stated that the area deserves design/architect services that have knowledge of the local area, builders, council regulations, long-term infrastructure needs and quality planning and design that caters to the client’s personal needs. Aaron stated that Regional Design Service wants to give clients a better design and consultation experience, which is value for money and with professional skills and knowledge. Phillip spoke of wanting to educate the community, such as schools and other groups, in design and what is quality and has longevity, not cheap and nasty inferior design. He also told the club about winning a scholarship, which enables him, to travel and expand his knowledge and skills, something he will bring back to Corowa. “GOOD DESIGN MAKES GOOD CITIZENS.” Chairman Wally and President Bill thanked Aaron and Phillip for their talk and presented them with the President Muscat. It was an informative and interesting talk, especially the history of architecture in Corowa. Thank you Aaron and Phillip for your presentation.
