Basic material and componentsSteel or aluminum are brought to the construction site in the form of coiled strip material and special clips or connector elements.

Logistics (I)Tronco’s manufacturing equipment (tube-forming machine or “TFM”, compressor, generator and complementary tools) fits easily into special 40-foot containers, which then become autonomous production plants. TFMs are transportable by boat, truck or aircraft to the construction sites.

Basic ComponentThe system’s basic component is a metallic log called “metalog”® . Metalogs are custom-made at any job site from coiled strip material, with attached connector elements at one or both their ends.

Logistics (II)One cubic meter of coiled material allows for the onsite fabrication of the metalogs required to build up to 350 cubic meters of enclosed areas, including walls, upper floors and roof.

Easy On-Site Component Production Metalogs are custom-made at the construction site and, when combined with a limited number of pre-manufactured components, can be rapidly assembled into up to 3-story building superstructures (walls, upper floors and roofs) by a small team of mostly locally hired, unskilled workers.

Variety of architectural solutionsTronco is not a prefab system that would involve pre-dimensioned building components. Its superstructures can all be designed and built on a case-by-case basis.

Exterior claddingOnce assembled, the superstructure may receive optional exterior cladding of insulated "troncopanels” and plaster finish. Troncopanels are made of high-density polystyrene. They are flat on one side and show a relief on the other side, which is the exact counterpart of the relief of the tubular wall or roof onto which they are directly applied.

Conventional lookOnce the metallic superstructure receives its wall cladding, a building may end up looking like conventional construction.

Interior claddingTroncopanels can also be used for interior cladding. As an alternative, gypsum board (drywall), fiber-cement or any other interior panels may be installed on walls and ceilings directly screwed to the metalogs (using self-tapping screws). Another option is to attach expanded wire mesh (wire-lathe) to the metalogs followed by plaster

ComfortTronco superstructures are notoriously energy efficient. The insulation capacity of the air chambers inside the walls may be complemented with the insulation of the claddings.

VersatilityCustom-designed buildings with cement-stucco, brick veneer or wood cladding blend in with most architectural styles, whether traditional or contemporary.

Superstructures before cladding
Tronco superstructures convey an image of neat, high-tech robustness. Depending on type of project, they may not require wall cladding.

Superstructures with wall claddingOnce the metalogs are hidden from view, a Tronco superstructure may look like a conventional building.

Superstructures with no wall claddingDepending on the type, use and location of a building, the continuous metalog wall and ceiling surfaces may be left without cladding, or receive a coat of elasthomeric paint for a colorful look.

Rural shelter (I)Small and simple superstructures do not necessarily require cement slab foundations prior to erection, which renders them particularly versatile for remote locations, where even pouring a cement could be a problem).

Rural shelter (II)Superstructures can be built on a do-it-yourself basis by end-users. A liquid membrane may easily be applied by the same end-users over the roof’s metalogs to render such structure habitable. Cement or adobe wall cladding, a hardened floor, prefab toilets and additional rooms may all be added at later stages.
