Questionnaire results and analysis. I carried out the questionnaire in order to find out what the customers wanted from my new magazine. It was a form of market research. I also did this to find out exactly how much people knew about the chosen genre and what sort of things the target audience wanted to see from the magazine. Firstly I asked an even variety of people to participate in my questionnaire as 10 where male and 10 where female, this shows that there will be a mixture of opinions and answers in the survey. Also showing a fair representation of society. 14people who took part in my survey was in the age group of 16-20, however the 6 was over the age of 20. When asked which the following artists they knew, the majority (mainly the younger generation) said that they knew all of them, however, the older generation never knew about artists such as Jamie T or the Enemy, they just knew about bands such as The Killers and Oasis. This tells me when I create the new magazine; it will have a variety of different artists included to appeal to all of the different age ranges. Also, when asked what age they began to listen to the INDIE genre, they all said around the age of which they are now, this is showing that the INDIE scene has only just became big and well known. When the survey asked which of the following genres you dislike the most, there was a fair variety of different answers, however mostly people dislike pop/chart music, jazz and classical music. A key part of the survey was to find out what sort of things people would like to see in the magazine, the main response was all of the following: Reviews Tour/gig dates Interviews Artists Articles. This is telling me that when I create the new magazine to include all of those features as this is what is appealing to my target audience. This also coincides with the question about how would they like the magazine to look, and most of the responses show that the target audience would like the magazine to look stereotypically INDIE and clear and easy to read. However some of the older participants said they would like it to be more in depth and textual. Another key question in the questionnaire was how much do people spend on magazines monthly, as this will give me a rough estimate on how much to price the magazine at, and the majority said that they would spend £5-£10 per month. Also, when the question, ‘Have you ever attended a music festival/ gig ‘the majority of people of the elder generation said they have not, this is possibly showing me that they prefer to buy the CD rather than pay money to go and watch an act live.

A key part of the survey was to find out what sort of things people would like to see in the magazine, the main response was all of the following:ReviewsTour/gig datesInterviewsArtists Articles.

gained the same response from the question about downloading music illegal or buying the CD, and the older generation said that they buy CD’s.

The response to the question , ‘Have you ever subscribed to a music magazine before’ there was an even response as 10 people said yes and 10 people said no, and the same response to the question ‘How often would you like the magazine to come out’.

Finally, the remaining two questions where just for my own interest. Question 13 asked if the target audience would like a segment designated to the latest fashion trends, and as expected, the answer was fairly representative of age as the younger generation said yes and the older generation said no.

The final question asked which magazines the people read. Surprisingly, no one answered with MOJO or Q. The majority said Kerrang and NME which is related to the INDIE genre.
