Indian Economic Association is the oldest and the largest

body of professional economists and policy makers in India.

Established in 1917 by Prof.C.J.Hamilton, it is on the threshold

of celebrating its birth centenary in 2017. The 5000+ members

of the Association represent teaching, research and policy making

from different parts of the country. The Association also has a

good number of members from abroad. Prof.A.K.Sen, the

Nobel Laureate and the former President of the International

Economic Association served as the President of the Indian

Economic Association. Former presidents of the Association

include such eminent Economists as R.K.Mukherjee, C.N.Vakil,

D.R.Gadgil, J.P.Niyogi, V.K.R.V.Rao, B.R.Shenoy, A.K.Das Gupta,

Indian Economic Association.

During the last 100 years of the illustrious existence, the

Indian Economic Association has the distinction of organizing

annual conferences throughout the breadth and width of the

country on various contemporary issues as the themes of the

conferences. Besides these IEA had the distinction of arranging

special and memorial lectures delivered by world renowed

Economists of India, panel discussions on contemporary

problems, and many more key note addresses. The 100th Annual

Conference will be the gateway for the Centenary Celebrations

of IEA and is being hosted by Acharya Nagarjuna University,

Andhra Pradesh. Acharya Nagarjuna University is immensely

pleased to extend a warm welcome to the members of the

Association for this prestigious Centenary Conference of IEA.

The Conference is proposed to be inaugurated by the Honorable

President of India His Excellency Sh. Ramanath Kovind and the

Honorable Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Sri Nara Chandra

Babu Naidu will participate in the inauguration function.

Acharya Nagarjuna University is named after AcharyaNagarjuna - one of the most brilliant preceptors andphilosophers - whose depth of thought, clarity of perceptionand spiritual insight was such that even after centuries, he is afount of inspiration to a vast number of people in many lands.The University is fortunate to be situated on the very soilwhere he was born and had lived, a soil made more sacred bythe aspiration for light and a state of wholesomeness bygenerations of students. It is the profound wish of the people ofthe area that this University one day raises to the level of theyesteryear Nalanda and Taxashila.

Established in 1976, the University has completed40 years under the stewardship of successive Vice- Chancellors.ANU is situated between the cities of Vijayawada and Gunturin Andhra Pradesh on Calcutta and Chennai National Highway(N.H-5), its Campus is spread over an area of 270 acres.Quantitative expansion and qualitative improvements onvarious academic fronts have been made possible through theefforts of its dedicated faculty, an efficient team of supportingstaff and high quality students input. Teaching and Researchare the two eyes and twin goals of the faculty in the UniversityCollege.

The University started as an affiliating University withonly 10 Postgraduate courses in the University College,which have been in existence right from 1967 when it wasa part of the Andhra University Post- Graduate Centre atNallapadu, Guntur. The University at present offersPostgraduate education in 70 courses, besides Postgraduatecourses in affiliated colleges. Administration of the existingcourses of the campus college is redistributed into threeconsti tuent col leges:i) College of Arts, Commerce & Law, ii) College of Sciences,iii) College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences fromthe academic year 2010-11.

The University College of Engineering andTechnology established in 2009-10 offers instruction for B.Techin CSE, ECE, EEE, Civil, Mechanical and M.Tech., inComputer Science, Electronics and CommunicationEngineering, Structural Engineering and Power Systems. TheCollege of Pharmaceutical Sciences established in 2009-10offers M.Pharmacy programme in five specializations, alongwith B.Pharmacy. The University College of Architecture andPlanning with B.Arch. programme also started functioning fromthe academic year 2010-11. These initiatives reflect theimportance attached by the University to offer technicaland professional education.

The University has exclusive centres of study such asDr. B.R. Ambedkar Centre for Social Policy and Social Action,Mahayana Buddhism, Scientific Socialism, DisasterMitigation Studies, Prof. K.S. Murthy Centre for Studies inAfro-Asian Philosophies, and Women’s Studies, indicating thediversified activities of the University. A special centre forconducting studies on Mahatma Jyothirao Phule and his socialphilosophy, Gandhian Studies Centre is organising a seriesof lectures on Gandhian philosophy. Centre forEntrepreneurship Development is guiding young andenthusiastic students to undertake entrepreneurial activities.

The University Library has acquired a large collectionof books for the ongoing teaching and research work in theuniversity. The library has a micro filming unit andDocumentation Cell. The Library has been subscribing to asmany as 450 National and International Journals besidesacquiring the back numbers of frequently used Journalsand spends about Rs.60 lakhs for this purpose. A PrimaryHealth centre is functioning on the Campus to provide medicalaid to the Staff; the Instrumentation Centre and the ComputerCentre which are equipped with the latest technology arefunctioning effectively. The Internet facilities in the campushave been modernised by introducing fibre optic connectivity.Wi-fi facility is provided to entire campus.

National Assessment and Accreditation council hasacceredited Acharya Nagarjuna University with ‘A’ Grade (3.08CGPA). ANU has been certified under ISO 9001-2015 in August,2016. In 2016 University got Time Higher Education WorldUniversity Rank 801+ and only 33 Universities in India gotplacement in TIMES ranking. And in South India, among publicUniversities, ANU secured second rank.In BRICS (Brazil, Russia,India, China, South Africa) (in QS Ranking), ANU secured aRank in 201-250 Bracket. In Web of Universities WorldRanking, ANU secured 3877, and stood Second in AndhraPradesh. In 4ICU World Ranking, ANU Secured a Rank of4483, and stood Second in Andhra Pradesh also securedNational Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF) Rank of 101in the bracket of 101 to 150 in entire India. In August 2017ANU bagged 25th rank among all Indian Universities byOutlook - Drshti University Survey 2017. They announcedtop 30 Universitites in entire India. More specifically in studentimprovements category ANU highlighted with 7th Rank inentire country.

ANU has by virtue of Academic competence, becomea global University with 500 students from 20 Countiresstudying in the campus.

PROFILE OF THE DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMICS

The Department of Economics is one of the biggestand oldest Departments in the University established in theyear 1976 with one Professor and three lecturers. At present,there are 01 Professor and 01 Assistant Professor in theDepartment. The Department offers with an intake of 45students. Thus every year, nearly 90 Post-graduate studentsare being trained in the Department. The alumni of theDepartment are being placed in higher positions inAdministration, teaching and research fields.

The Department also offers full-time and part-timeresearch programmes leading to M.Phil., and Ph.D., Degrees.All the staff members are guiding students for research. Sofar more than 125 M.Phil., and 110 Ph.D., Degrees wereawarded in the Department. On an average 07 Ph.Ds wereawarded per year during the last five years.

The thrust areas of research in the Department includeAgricultural Economics, Rural Development, LabourEconomics, Public Finance, Industrial Economics,Environmental Economics, Demography, DevelopmentEconomics and Econometrics.

Among the other dignitaries visited our Departmentwere Noble Laureate Sir john Hicks (21-01-1982) andDr.Ursula Hicks. There are a number of students producedby the Department who are working in high esteemedposition like World Bank, RBI, Income Tax Department,Indian Railways etc.

In addition to teaching and guiding research, theDepartment has a credible record of the individual researchprojects. About 20 major and minor research projects fundedby the UGC successfully completed. There are 9 Post DoctoralFellows and 17 RGNF Research Scholars getting Financialassistance from different funding agencies such as UGC,ICSSR and MNF.

The Depar tment has been a pioneer in theorganization of conferences, seminars oriental programmesfor refresher courses and research methodology courses. Agood number of refresher courses, research methodologycourses and summer institutes have been organized for thebenefit of the college teachers and research scholars ineconomics. It has successfully organized several conferences.The most important of them being the Andhra Pradesh

Economic Association Annual Conferences (Three times).Apart from these, several national seminars / conferences werealso organized in the Department.

The faculty members have also been activelyparticipating in the national and international conferences.During the last five years the faculty participated in 100national and international seminars/conferences andpublished several research articles in nationally/internationallyreputed professional journals. On an average, the Departmenthas published 30 articles per year during the last five years.The faculty members also served on the various academicbodies like NAAC, UGC, ICSSR, Board of Studies, AcademicSenate, Editorial Boards etc., Some of the faculty membersof the department are the recipients of the prestigious awardslike Best Teacher Award, Life time achievement award andof the rising personalities in India.

In recognition of its achievements, besides theacademic programmes, the department has activelyparticipated in extension and social activities namelyJanmabhoomi Programme, Community DevelopmentProgramme, Relief Programme in Hudood Cyclone affectedareas, AIDS awareness programmes etc. The Departmentranked first by the Government of Andhra Pradesh inconducting the Janmabhoomi Programme (Meekosam) in2015. Thus, the Department has no hesitation what so everto place on record that it is one of the most energetic,enthusiastic and academic departments in the state as wellas in the Country.

Amaravathi

Amaravathi is also know as AndhraNagari, ahistoric place which is located 28 kms away from Gunturand 36 Km from Vijayawada. Amaravathi is famousfor the Amaralingeswara Swamy Temple(Amareswaraor lord Shiva), 125 feet Buddha stupa, Ashoka pillarand Archaeological Museum. Amaravathi is one of thoseplaces which cannot be missed when we talk about thetourist places near Guntur and vijayawada city.

Undavalli Caves

Undavalli caves are located in undavallivillage, Tadepalli Mandal ,Guntur District. which is 28Km from guntur and 6 km from Vijayawada onNH5. Undavalli caves are carved on hillside with solidsandstone. Number of caves are located near, In thelargest cave lord Vishnu idol in recliningposture sculpted from a single block of granite. Othershrines inside the cave are dedicated to Trimurti:Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva.

Kondaveedu

Kondaveedu with its natural beauty is an idealplace for trekking. Kondaveedu is located 25 kms awayfrom Guntur city is Famous for Konaveedu Fort. Thishistorical fort offers around 21 stupas and many temples,residential structures, pillared halls and the entrance gateways worth seeing here. Trikoteswara Swamytemple,Lord Ganapathi temple,Gopinatha Templelocated near. Kathulabave at the foothill are other majorattractions of Kondaveedu. Recently unearthed massivegolden of “panchaloha” idol, idol of Raja Rajeswari.and people believe treasures could lay deep in the earth,

the fort turned into a treasure trove for treasure hunters.Most part of the fort is over the hill and still remains asuntraveled. Many times people come here forphotoshoots.

Sita Nagaram

Sita Nagaram is located on the bank of KrishnaRiver, next to Prakasam barrage near to Vijayawadaand 28 km from Guntur which is in Tadepalli Mandalof Guntur District. Beautiful view of Krishna River, LordRama, Someswara swamy temple are located inSitaNagaram.

Uppalapadu Bird Sanctuary

Uppalapadu is located 6 km away from GunturCity. Uppalapadu Bird Sanctuary is home to a numberof bird species, there are around 7000 birds living here,and migrate to this place. Bird lovers will come to thisplace to visit number of species.

Other Places

Some other tourist places in Guntur district areNagarjuna Sagar, Bapatla Suryalanka beach, Durgistone craft near Macherla, Ethipothala waterfalls,Guthikonda Caves and many other places.

REGISTRATION AND ACCOMMODATION

To avoid inconvenience to the delegates it is decided notto have spot registration of the delegates. The delegates arerequested to submit their registration in advance, preferably, through‘Online Registration’ before 30 th November, 2017. TheRegistration requests received after 30th November 2017, may notbe considered. Hence, the delegates are requested to register“Online” early by making payment of

� One or two children only upto age of 10 years canaccompany the delegates free of charge without any extrabedding in the same room with parents. No children above10 years of age will be allowed to the conference even withregistration free.

� Accommodation will be available only from the noon of26-12-2017 up to the morning of 31-12-2017.

� The conference kit will be given only to the IEA memberdelegates and not to the accompanying spouse even thoughhe/she pays the registration free.

� If any delegate is accompanied by more number of personsother than spouse and maximum of two children below theage of 10 years, then the organizers will not be responsiblefor their boarding and lodging. They have to make theirown arrangements outside the campus. Moreover, non-member spouse and children are not allowed into theconference halls when sessions are in progress.

� The papers of only those authors will be considered whoare members of the Indian Economic Association. Thosewho are not the members of the IEA, but wish to submittheir papers, will have to first become members by fillingthe requisite form and fees, the details of which are availableat the IEA website.

� The co-authors too need to be the members of the IEA.Co-authors, who are not the members of the IEA, willautomatically have their names deleted from the PaperAuthor(s) unless they too become the members.

� Contributors of research papers are required to mentiontheir E-mail ID, Phone/Mobile Number and address withPIN code along with their names and age in their coveringletters. These are essential for co-authors also. Theinformation is mandatory. It will help the editorial board tocommunicate to the contributors in an efficient manner.

� The Paper Contributors are requested to also mention intheir forwarding letters their Permanent MembershipNumber. The latest IEA’s Membership Profile 2015 is alsoavailable at IEA’s Website for your ready reference (in theconferences and events page)

� By sending your paper, if accepted for publication in full,you are implicitly undertaking to come and present the Paperduring the Annual Conference. The failure to abide by thesame will amount to your future Paper contributions to theIEA being liable to be rejected for any further action.

How to reach Acharya Nagarjuna University

It is on the NH 16 (Old NH 5) 20 KM from VijayawadaRailway Station and 38 KM from Vujayawada international airportat Gannavaram. Both railway station and airport are well connectedwith all metros of the country. Weather at Guntur during December is very pleasant. Thetemperature ranges between 22 and 29°C at day 21 and 25°C atnight. Light Warm clothes are advised.

Medical Facilities

Many Multi Super Speciality Hospitals are located inVijayawada and Guntur cities. One Multi Super Speciality hospitalnamely NRI hospital is located within 5 KM from Acharya NagarjunaUniversity. However one resident doctor is available for 24 hourswith five beded dispensary with in the campus.
