25 November 2015 25 November 2015 Principal’s News Recently the 2016 Student Leader selection process took place in our school. After a rigorous process, ten student leaders were selected. Student and staff voting to select two of these students to become our 2016 School Captains has now closed. School Captains will be announced on December 9 at the Year 6 Graduation Ceremony. Our ten School Leaders for 2016 are Caitlin B, Bethany M, Oscar C, Sofia Y-S, Samantha L, Matthew P, Alana M, William O, James T-F and Taylah B. Congratulations to these and the additional 44 applicants who took the time to be part of the process. Next year I will take Maternity Leave for the school year. The selection process to appoint an Acting Principal during my absence has been finalised and I am happy to inform you Mr Damian Johnson will be Jindalee’s Principal in 2016. Mr Johnson is a very experienced Principal whose substantive position is the Principal of Ipswich Central State School. This year however, Mr Johnson has been working as a Lead Principal in Regional Office. I wish him all the best at Jindalee until I return at the beginning of the 2017 school year. Home Readers and Library Books We ask that all home readers and library books are returned to the school by Friday 27 November. Statements for any outstanding home readers and library books will be sent home in Week 9. Maths Challenge ChampsOn Friday 20 November ten selected Year 4 students travelledto Jamboree Heights State School to participate in the Year4 Maths Challenge Day. It was the first ever Year 4 MathsChallenge Day and the children participated fully, representingJindalee State School with enthusiasm and making theirteachers and their whole school proud. Jindalee wasrepresented with two teams of five boys. In the first round theboys had to work together in their team to complete problemsolving questions. Round Two was a relay and the studentsworked in pairs to solve problems and lock their answers inquickly. At the end of the day it was revealed that both teamshad scored 60 points and tied in second place! Congratulationsto these boys and their teachers. Well done!

Active School Travel News

The Active School Travel committee is holding another walkingbus this term: Be Active and Walk Safely from School on Friday27 November – Afternoon Walking Bus.

It was fantastic to see over 70 children participate in our finalwalking bus last term. As an Active School Travel school weencourage our students to actively travel every week. A

reminder that every Thursday we conduct a walking bus to andfrom the school which is supervised by our school adopt-a-copBen Harm and Active School Travel Committee members. Itwould be great to see more of our students use this facilityevery Thursday. Please encourage your child to join this walkingbus and start their day actively.

This term we will once again conduct an afternoon walkingbuses on the date indicated above. Active School Travelcommittee members (including our school adopt-a-cop BenHarm) will conduct a walking bus in the afternoon that will leavefrom our school tuckshop area to the Boat Ramp Playground.The walking bus will arrive at the boat ramp playground atapproximately 3:20pm. PLEASE NOTE: Due to safetyconcerns, children will need to be picked up at the finish pointat the playground. There will be cones set up labelled with yearlevels and we ask parents to come to the supervisor of that yearlevel and ensure their child is marked off the list.

Students are required to be registered to join the afternoonwalking bus to the Boat Ramp. This is so that we can ensurethat we have enough adults to supervise the children whilst theyare walking. If you would like your child to join the walking bus inthe afternoon of Friday 27 November please register your childby email [email protected]

Students who participate in this walking bus will receive anextra stamp in their Active School Travel Passport.

Jindalee State School turns 50 next yearAs you may be aware, Jindalee StateSchool turns 50 years old next year. We willbe having a celebration during the year aswell as opening the time capsule buried in1988!

We have set up a Facebook page to connect with past andpresent members of the Jindalee community and to keepeveryone up to date on the happenings for next year.

Update on the JSS Christmas Market

When: Saturday 28 November 12pm - 5pmLocation: Outside Tuckshop. The hot food stalls will be on thesame level as the hall.

Wow, what a wonderful response we have had from businesseswanting to be a part of our Christmas Market on Saturday. Itseems that it is just what this area needed, a place to cometogether to meet friends and have a good time........ oh anddo some Christmas shopping too! Lots of handmade goods tochoose from, delicious food, decorate wrapping paper for StVinnies community gifts and loads of present ideas!

Help is still needed and this is a different call to help from theone Josh the Chaplain, has put out for the Christmas Carols.

We don't need many people but we do need some so pleasesign up and help if you can....

Our school Christmas Carols is coming up on Saturday 28thNovember, from 5-8pm. We will be having performances fromeach year level and choir. We will also have Santa visit usfollowed by spectacular fireworks to finish the evening!
