Principal Report
Term 2 Week 9 2019
WHAT WAS SO GREAT THIS WEEK
I had the opportunity this week to read each student’s school report. Our teachers have been working really hard to put together information to parents that are an accurate reflection of where our students learning is at. I appreciated the chance to get to know our students and learn a little bit about them and what kind of learners they are. Congratulations to all our students who have been striving to do the best they can and achieving great results. There is opportunity for students to take on board feedback from their teachers and make changes, if needed next semester. I admire the dedication and commitment our teachers have shown to improving the learning of the students in our school. Reports will be sent home on Friday. I would like to encourage all parents to make time to meet with the class teacher for a three way learning conversation.
PETS AS THERAPY DOG
This term I have spent a lot of time researching and reflecting on the positive impacts that a ‘pets as therapy’ dog could bring to our school. I have also noticed the benefits within a school environment have been prominent in the media. I have met with the school’s P&C to discuss and get feedback on their opinions, which were very positive and encouraging, including some concerns which were addressed. I have included school staff in discussions and it has been decided that we are going to start to introduce a ‘pets as therapy’ dog into our school. A big thank you to Lisa Taylor for all her help in finding the right dog for us. Our new puppy will need to be trained and a very firm management plan put in place to support the puppy. There will be a very slow introduction phase for the students and the dog. Only students who are comfortable and happy to be around dogs will interact with him. If your child is not comfortable with this please let their class teacher know so we can ensure their feeling alright. If parents have any questions or concerns please contact the school to organise an appointment to come and see me or send an email outlining your questions.
NAIDOC WEEK
Next week our school will be celebrating NAIDOC Week. Starting on Monday with an assembly that all parents and carers are invited too, starting at 12pm. Throughout the week various other cultural activities have been organised for students to enjoy. Gold day will be held on Wednesday for all our gold students.
NEARING THE END OF TERM 2
As we approach the last week of school it is important to remember that our school’s expectations of student’s behaviour continue right up to the last bell on Friday. It has been a very busy term and students are tired and looking forward to the school holidays, but they need to show respect and consideration to both teachers and other students alike. Consequences will remain the same for anyone who isn’t making good choices. Let’s finish off the term on a positive note and enjoy all the fun things that are planned for next week.
DANCE2BFIT PERFORMANCE
We are getting very excited about the upcoming performance and all the students have been having a lot of fun practicing and getting ready. Performances will be on Wednesday and Thursday night next week starting at 5.30pm. Looking forward to seeing our parents and carers.

SOUTHERN STARS COMES ALIVE IN 2018 – Tickets on sale!
Last week Southern Stars 2019 COME ALIVE was officially launched at the BlueScope Visitors Centre in Wollongong, where Executive Producer, Paul Roger, announced the theme, and that tickets were officially on sale to the public.
There were some fantastic performances from our featured artists offering a sneak peek of some of the great items from this year’s show.
Our 4 Tenors in particular really made an impact, bringing the audience to tears – it was incredible!
The show once again will have something for everyone. The theme and show segments are all based around how students come alive when they perform.
It’s the biggest show in the history of Southern Stars with over 3,000 students from over 100 schools in the Illawarra and around NSW.
The students will take part in a world-class two hour arena style variety show that will feature pop, country, rock, and opera.
COME ALIVE includes two circus troupes, audience favourites - the NSW Public School Millennial Marching Band, a 600 strong choir, rock band, our Aboriginal dance ensemble, massive student orchestra, the Black Swans with an original item based on stories of the
Illawarra, 2000 dancers, amazingly talented featured artists, the signing choir and disABILITY students fully integrated with our drama students and vocalists, and much more.
As in past years, community support of Southern Stars is vital to ensure its success, and the easiest way of showing your support is by
attending one of the four blockbuster shows.
It doesn’t matter if you know anyone performing in the show or not – Southern Stars is a high energy spectacle which provides great entertainment for people of all ages. The talent, energy and enthusiasm of our students, is something not to be missed. Anyone who has
attended a show says so!
Over 12,000 people are expected to attend the four performances at the WIN Entertainment Centre in Wollongong on Friday August 31 (10am and 7.30pm) and Saturday September 1 (2pm and 7.30pm) - make sure you are one of them!
Please note that tickets should be purchased only through the official ticket booking site of Ticketmaster. http://ticketmaster.com.au

A look inside the Classroom
4 Bilima have spent this term
learning about living and non living
things and how ecosystems are
effected by humans and
environmental impacts. This week
they were visited by Dr Nicole
Sweaney from the Australian
National University to talk about
her studies in Conservation Ecology.
Dr Sweaney has worked all over
Australia and the world looking at
endangered species and effects on
ecosystems. The students came up
with ideas for how we could protect
native species like the Eastern Quoll.
They had an amazing time and have
hopefully been inspired to become
our future scientists!
