Dear Parents, Friends and Guardians COMING EVENTS Musical – ‘A Faerie Tale’ - Playing this week Our children from Years 6 and 7 and staff who are involved in the musical have been working tirelessly over the last few months in order to present their bi-annual extravaganza and this week all of their work is coming to fruition. They have performed to full houses for matinee and evening shows and these will continue tonight and tomorrow night. It has been great to see the development of the children since their initial practices in mid Term 1 and this is a credit to their supervising staff and themselves for the hard work they have put into the roles they play. My thanks once again to Meagan Curry, our Director, and her enthusiastic band of teachers who have helped to stage the musical – well done to all. June Parents and Friends Association Meeting – Monday, 4 June Our next P & F meeting is being held on this coming Monday at 7.00pm in the school staff room. The minutes from our last meeting are on the website for your viewing and can be accessed by visiting our site on www.mps.qld.edu.au and looking under the ‗Parents‘ dropdown tab. At this meeting we will be looking at some ideas for parental involvement from the recent Queensland P & F Conference as well as looking at options for the expenditure of the P & F levy for this year. Our meeting is expected to be finished by 8.30pm. Art Show Meeting – Wednesday, 30 May Our next Art Show meeting is on tonight in the College Board room at 6.00pm. We are less than 10 weeks away from this year‘s event and many of the preparations are falling in to place. If you would like to help in any way please feel free to come along to our meeting. It is expected that we would be finished by just after 7.00pm. Traffic Access to Internal Road We continue to have parents utilising the internal access road that leads to the College administration block as a set down and drop-off point for their children. Using this road access creates a lot of unnecessary traffic both in the morning and afternoon and this endangers the lives of our children. Sadly we have some parents who feel that the rules don‘t apply to them and set a bad example to their children by parking in either the clearly marked No Parking zones or the Disabled Parking spaces. There are also many parents who take their children across the road by moving between parked staff cars instead of using the crossing which is only a matter of metres away. This practice is encouraging dangerous habits which many young children don‘t yet fully understand and it is putting their lives in danger as well as creating issues for the legitimate drivers using this road. I would ask that parents please think about the message they are giving to their children when it comes to traffic issues around our school. Our challenges traffic-wise are not easy to resolve because of the size of our combined schools and our site access points, but always our message, and the message around all schools, has been the same – please use caution and be patient when driving around schools – your children‘s lives are the ones we are looking to save. Catholic Schools Cross Country carnival – Wednesday, 6 June The annual Catholic schools Cross Country day is being held at St Brigid‘s school at Nerang on next Wednesday. We will be taking our school squad again and all children involved should have received notes with travel details and so on by now. Our best wishes go with the children for a great day. Our thanks also goes to Paul Hill for his co-ordination of the squad and Jackson Elliott for his work in training the children over the last few months. Thanks for reading – my tip for the football would have been right if the last contentious try was not awarded!!! “Mary Said Yes”.

Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary – 31 May Background Information - Luke 1:39-56 This feast celebrates Mary‘s visit to her cousin Elizabeth and her example of faith in God‘s word and sensitivity to the Spirit. It is a significant contributor to two of the qualities of Mary we celebrate – Mary showed concern for family and friends & Mary praised God. Main points for children: God had a special plan for Elizabeth also. What was thought to be impossible was made possible through God. Elizabeth greets Mary saying: ―Blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb.‖ The Hail Mary. Mary replies with the Canticle or the Magnificat. Hail Mary This prayer as we know it today, was written between the twelfth and fifteenth centuries and is sometimes known by its Latin name Ave Maria. In praying it we honour Mary and ask for her help to pray for us. Hail Mary! Full of Grace Luke 1: 26

A version of the words the angel Gabriel said to Mary at the Annunciation. „Hail‟ is an ancient term used to greet

someone who is very special. Blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus Luke 1:42

This is Elizabeth‟s greeting to Mary at the Visitation. The Pope added the word Jesus in 1261.

Holy Mary, mother of God pray for us sinners now, and at the hour of our death. Amen

These words were written by Christians long ago. We know Mary is the Mother of God and so she was called

Holy. They asked Mary to pray for them to live good lives and be with them when they died.

Wow what a day! STATE OF ORIGIN SAUSAGE SIZZLE! Thanks to the students for supporting our special tuckshop day. The snags smelt and tasted great, all 500 of them! A very big thank you to the band of mum and nan helpers on that day. Dressed in their supporters gear they worked tirelessly to make sure all were fed. We had loads of fun with lots of laughter. These special days could not go ahead without your continued support. Thanks again ladies! Apple slinkys for munch and crunch.....unfortunately due to the drop in volunteers at the tuckshop we can not always guarantee we can slinky or cut up your child's apple for munch and crunch. Recently, some tuckshop days have seen myself as the only operator or just one other. Time is not permitting to slinky groups of children's apples. It is unfortunate, however, please make alternate arrangements for your child's munch and crunch. It is terrific to see so many children making healthy lunch choices. I am pleased to say we are utilising the fresh garden produce (from our very own veggie patch) daily to make sandwiches and salads. Please keep encouraging your child to add a piece of fruit to their order and or purchase over the counter. All fruit in particular the mandarins taste great at the moment. Our homemade spaghetti bolognaise is also a great hit, packed full of healthy yummy ingredients, if you haven't already you should give it a try! Served Tuesdays for $4. ROSTER FOR NEXT WEEK Monday 4 June ........ Kerri Howell Tuesday 5 June.........Jackie Morrie and Lisa Bruce Wednesday 6 June....Irene, Lisa Armstrong Thursday 7 June........Minon Cush Friday 8 June.............Megan Kennedy & Sandy Kennedy As you can see there a couple of days with just one volunteer. Should you be able to help out one of the above days please let me know. The tuckshop could do with a few more helpers! Have a great weekend—GO THE BUNNIES Vicki Turner
