Dear Parents, Friends and Guardians COMING EVENTS Welcome back to Tony Last week Trevor Doyle (Our Area Supervisor), and I conducted interviews for the position of Acting Assistant Principal to fill the role left vacant following the resignation of Kevin Larkin, our current role-holder. I am pleased to announce that Tony Barron has been offered and accepted the position. Tony has already worked here for 18 months in the same role and we welcome him back to our community. He will commence from the start of Term 3 and work in this acting capacity until the end of the year. Kevin will finish his time with Catholic education at the end of this term – Friday, 22 June. Year 4 – 7 Athletics Carnival Date Change – now Thursday, 21 June We have had to make a change to the designated date for our Senior School Athletics Carnival due to a number of unforeseen circumstances. It will now be held (weather permitting) on the above date with the venue still being the College Athletics track behind their main buildings. We will place a running sheet of the day on the school website next week as well as send one out with the June 13 newsletter. This will give you approximate times for the various events which are held throughout the day. Our day will not feature any field events as these have been taking place over the last few weeks during class time. Parents are most welcome to join us on the day. Beach-a-thon – Friday, 15 June This annual fun-filled morning is coming up very quickly with just over a week until we hit the beach again at Miami. Two of our teachers, Belinda Norton-Smith and Whitney Reid, have been co-ordinating this year’s saunter on the sand and I thank them for taking on this quite significant task. All children should have had their sponsorship forms now for the last three weeks so please check with your child’s respective teacher if you haven’t seen this as yet. Prizes have already been awarded as encouragement for those who have been able to collect some sponsorship support so again please check with your child on this. Our departure times from school and the beach will be put on our website and in this week’s newsletter for your awareness. These can be found under the News and Events drop-down menu on the website http://www.mps.qld.edu.au/News/News. The children will need to wear their full school sports uniform (including hat), bring their water bottle and ensure that they have some sun cream to apply. More details next week. Art Show Meeting – tonight – 6.00pm Our next Combined Schools’ Art Show meeting is being held in the college board room at 6.00pm tonight. All parents are most welcome to join us for our hour-long meeting. Things are ticking over quite nicely at this stage but any further support would be most welcome. Included with this newsletter is a request for help in the form of sponsorship for the weekend event. We have three levels of Sponsorship deals left with our major sponsors being Professionals Black & Young Real Estate and the Bank of Queensland (Palm Beach Branch). The levels left are: Ruby - $1 500 Sapphire - $1 000 Emerald - $300 If you can support us please follow up on the contact details listed later in this newsletter in the note from one of our parent supporters, Colleen Kinging. Friday Sport Finish Our Friday Interschool Sports competition finishes this Friday after a season heavily interrupted by rain and unplayable fields. My thanks is extended to the staff and parents who have helped out through training, coaching, refereeing or in other ways. I would like to say a particular thanks to the group of students from Marymount College who have assisted us by refereeing or umpiring during the course of this season. This assistance has been very much appreciated by our children and staff. Whilst being good training for these students it has also provided a great role model for our children in the way that these students have conducted themselves in the heat of actual games. I would also like to congratulate our children for their conduct each week. We have had many reports of good sportsmanship being exhibited by our teams regardless of whether they have won or lost. This is especially important for our teams continued over... YEARS 4—7 ATHLETICS CARNIVAL

THURSDAY 21 JUNE

To all parents of Year 8 students 2013 who have been sent a confirmation of enrolment form and Text hire account. Can you please return this form to the main office at the College as soon as possible to confirm your acceptance? There are a number of students on a waiting list for next year and we need to finalise our numbers by the end of this term.

this year as they have had limited chances to play actual games due to the weather and their sense of frustration has challenged them (as well as staff and parents). Thanks again to all for their support for our winter sport program, we look forward to the coming athletics and ball games competitions. Thanks to Annette, Paul and Koala It would be remiss of me not to thank Annette O’Shea and Paul Hill for their magnificent efforts each week in co-ordinating teams and bus travel. It is an arduous task and one which has many frustrations with late draw changes or field cancellations due to weather. Their work deserves to be mentioned and acknowledged. We also send our thanks to Bede Young (Owner) of Koala Koaches for the significant support that his company provides us during the sport season. Their staff and drivers have been patient with us as we have made late changes to schedules even as late as Friday mornings. To move as many children as we do is a major undertaking and these people do it in their stride. Planning Meeting for the New Church – Thursday , 21 June – 7.00pm Now that the power lines have been removed and the sale of the Bermuda St corner block has gone ahead our parish is in a position to resume its plans for the construction of a new church at the top of our parish / school campus where the parish office is presently located. Fr Pat has called a meeting to re-ignite some of the original ideas from a number of years ago and to join these with contemporary design ideas for a functional worship centre with parish offices. This meeting is being held on the above date in the college library. It is important that parents from our primary school endeavour to get along to this meeting as there are future implications for our school community. Last June Queen’s Birthday Weekend This coming Monday is the gazetted public holiday for the Queen’s birthday so our school will be closed. This will be the last time we have this holiday celebrated in June as from next year it will be held on the first Monday of October. This change was made amongst a number of other changes last year by the State government. Enjoy the last one. Thanks for reading Yours in Christ Greg Casey

Dear Parents As you are aware, the P & F committee works together with Greg Casey, the Leadership Team, and the staff to bring about changes that represent value for our levies, now and for the young minds of the future. Recent discussions during P & F meetings have centred around the need to support the school's development of the information technology system. The Australian National Curriculum places increased emphasis on the dynamic and efficient use of information technology resources. With this in mind, the school completed the first of a three stage upgrade of the technology infrastructure towards the end of last year. It is now time to embark on the final two stages of this project, which will see a significant increase in internet connectivity and efficiency throughout the entire school campus. At the last meeting of the P & F, we, as a committee, committed $48,000 to the completion of these final stages. We are proud to be in a financial position to provide funds for these important school projects, and for this we thank you as a parent body for your support. Please feel free to come along to our next P & F meeting on Monday the 9th of July at 7pm. Everyone is most welcome. Anthony Touzell President

AFL Suns Cup 5th June 2012

On the 5th of June the Gold Coast

Su n s C u p w a s u n d e r wa y . Marymount was to compete against Helensvale State School, Coomera State School, St. Andrews and Caningeraba State School. Due to the outstanding abilities of the Marymount players we emerged victorious. All the other schools were competitive, although none could match Marymount’s speed and skill. It was Simi Thomsen’s first few games and he did an outstanding job by only losing two or three taps while in the ruck. Jacob Dawson (Team Captain) scored an amazing goal from the centre line in the final match which lifted the team’s spirit and helped Marymount score goal after goal after goal. Congratulations boys! The experience of family affects all people in a most profound way, from the miracles of love to the moments of brokenness. Today the word “family” implies many combinations of people, including friends. All are part of a network of relationships through their family of origin or as a significant person within other family networks.

Each generation receives the beliefs of the previous generation wrapped in the concepts and framed in the language, style and actions that made sense to that earlier generation.

EMBRACING FAMILIES is a message of hope, an opportunity to really open our hearts and minds to discover and rediscover the call to live in happiness and peace.
