In 1948, five Stonington familiessaw the need for a small,independent school to providequality education. They bought a“house with good light” on NorthMain Street and opened witheleven students. Pine Point Schoolgrew until, in April 1956, it brokeground at its present location onBarnes Road.

Today, the School serves 230children in grades preschoolthrough 9 from southeasternConnecticut and southwesternRhode Island. Much has changedsince the founding in 1948 but oneconstant remains: Pine Point isdedicated to cultivating strongminds and caring hearts in each ofits students.

Results Ma�erThe academic program offers a rigorous,comprehensive curriculum in essential skills designedto prepare students to excel in secondary school andbeyond. It features project-based learning andintegrated service learning at every grade level. Theprogram is highly differentiated, balancing rigor andchallenge to fortify each child’s strengths and meethis/her needs. From grade to grade, students buildupon familiar concepts and strategies.

Our rich, diverse program inspires curiosity by teachingstudents in authentic environments and it producesexceptional results.

Strong academic achievement comes not from testpreparation but from integrated, rigorous, authentic,project-based learning. Pine Point uses the EducationalRecords Bureau’s CTP4 testing program to assess studentprogress in acquiring essential mathematics andlanguage arts skills. The results show that Pine Pointstudents outperform their peers at suburban publicschools as well other independent schools.

2014 average national percentile rank of Pine Point students on ERB’s CTP4’s 5 lan-guage arts subtests and 2 mathematics subtests as compared with suburban publicschools and other independent schools.

Signature programsinclude the G.I.V.E. studentphilanthropy committee, integratedservice learning programs at eachgrade level, cross-grade D.E.A.R.groups, student government, andmorning meetings.
