WINNER: Bishman Ltd PROJECT: ASB North Wharf

This stunning building on Auckland’s landscape is aesthetically beautiful inside and out. The dramatic lighting is both functional and harmonious creating great working and meeting spaces – all applied with precision and skill by Bishman.

Reflecting life in a busy metropolis, the strip LEDs simulate lines of traffic as seen in a slow-mo still photo, and these had to follow the yellow lines on the floor, requiring accurate work from Bishman to achieve this.

The DALI lighting control system automatically adjusts the lighting in response to changing ambient light levels and provides occupants with a constant light level. Together with daylight harvesting, maximum energy savings are achieved.

This little bridge has a two-fold purpose: to link both sides of Waiarohia Stream in Whangarei, and to provide a visual spectacle by night.

McKay were tasked with wiring it up to enable the bridge to open when required; to ensure those crossing the bridge could do so safely at night; and that their work was both water and vandal proof. They particularly met the brief on the visual spectacle!

The bridge is completely lit by LED, with continuous RGB lighting under the handrail which can change colour to whatever mood is required – so functional and aesthetically pleasing at the same time.

All this is managed by central control at the Big Bridge, Te Matau a Pohe, via fiber – a practical solution.

This little bridge is now a feature of Whangarei’s nightscape.

FINALIST: McKay Limited PROJECT: Waiarohia Stream

The Mini Garage showroom looks spectacular day or night, and with programmed ‘pre-set lighting scenes’, the change of the showroom ambiance is as quick as a swipe on the touchscreen.

Both the ‘switched’ and ‘dimmed’ lighting is controlled by a Dali lighting control system and all light fittings have been selected for their high efficiency properties, with the showroom, retail, café, boardroom and offices all LED lit, some custom made by Akon.

The workshop consists of T5 long-life Highbays and the exterior and signage lighting is a mix of LED and Neon tubes for the Mini logos.

With clever lighting – designed to bring in the punters, Akon Electrical met the brief.
