I come into the office with a few “must-dos” on my list, but those things may or may not get attention on that day. It all depends on what happens. I learned a long time ago that I have to start each day with that list, but I also learned that I can’t be a slave to the list. I write the list; the list does not write me. The envelope that came through the mail was certainly not on my list. It just showed up in my stack of mail one day. Over a year ago, this letter-sized envelope came addressed to me, and it was obviously hand-written, so I was interested to open it and read its content. Something fell out of the envelope, leaving me with a hand-written note on plain typing paper. The note said something like this: “Many years ago, as a child at Central, I used to steal money out of the Sunday School offering. It was easy enough to steal a dollar or two without be caught, or without even raising suspicion. Enclosed, find some money which I hope settles my debt to Central.” I looked down to see what had fallen out of the envelope. It was a $100 bill. More recently, a woman walked into the Church with a book that belonged to our library. She was returning it for someone who now lives on the other end of the Commonwealth. It was a little past due. Ten years past due, to be exact. I was more than a little bit impressed that someone recognized a book from our library and made the effort to return it. Attached was a sincere apology for keeping the book so long. I wish I could speak with both of these folks. I wish I could tell them that all is forgiven. I wish I could tell them that Central practices forgiveness because we rely on forgiveness. With any luck, I just did. See you Sunday, at one of the most forgiving places I know. What we do here matters.

From My Perspective

One of the many things I love about being a Pastor is that you never know what might happen on any given day. I come into the office with a few “must-dos” on my list, but those things may or may not get attention on that day. It all depends on what happens. Save the Date! Page’s Camp Meeting, August 7 & 8 For over 40 years, Page’s Camp Meeting has been meeting continuously at Page’s Meeting House on Hickman Cemetery

Road. We’ve gathered to hear preaching, sing the old hymns, and sometimes enjoyed good food as a bonus. This year, Central is helping the United Methodist Churches in our area dream a new dream for Page’s Camp Meeting. Under the direction of our Pastors and others, we are revamping both the fellowship and worship for the event. On Sunday, Au-gust 7, Central will host a Sunday Funday-type event at Page’s. The event will include activities for all ages, a delicious meal, and worship that will be modern and refreshing. On Monday, August 8, we will gather again for worship that is dynamic and moving. Our speaker for this year’s Camp Meeting services will be Rev. Micah Nicolaus. Many of you will

recognize Micah from his hosting duties each year at Resurrection. Micah is a powerful speaker who will inspire us as we come together seeking God. In the coming weeks we will announce our guest musicians, but rest assured that the music

will be lively and inspiring. Make your plans now to attend.

This Summer, Aaron Miller has been interning at CUMC. Most of you

know Aaron is a recent graduate of Radford High School, and has contributed so much to Central over the course of his time here. In

addition to preaching occasionally on Sunday mornings, he has served on the Youth Leadership Team and has represented the church on the

district and conference level. We are so proud to have him working along side our staff this Summer. His duties include assisting in all areas of ministry from manning the phone to visiting shut-ins. We know God will bless Aaron in all his future endeavors. He will be

attending New River Community College in the fall.

Thanks for all you do, Aaron!
