Here We Go! Welcome To The Greatest Week Of Your Year

Welcome to Camp Padre19

This summer I’d like to invite you to join many others and myself from Connect and experience Camp Padre19. It’s a summer camp on the beaches of the Gulf of Mexico and it’s unlike any other camp you’ve attended.

Check this out: you’ll be staying at a beach-front resort, playing beach games like soccer, volleyball, football, team challenges, riding boogie boards, enjoying a real luau, and chowing down on some great food. Let’s just say you’ve got nothing to lose. Plus, the beach-front resort where we’re staying is Schlitterbahn, one of America’s largest water parks.

While all of that is appealing and will definitely be non-stop fun, more importantly, this camp will be a life changer as you experience God with hundreds of other students at the daily worship gatherings.

Welcome to the best week you’ve ever had in your life. Welcome to Camp Padre!

Pastor Jeremy Laux Connect Student Ministries

We at Connect are here to help! Please email Tami Farr at [email protected] if you have any questions, or need more information.

1. AttitudesOne of the most important things to have at camp is a good attitude. No matter how well organized our plans are, there is always a possibility of some changes being made. Don’t get frustrated… roll with it… and please, have a good attitude!

2. DeparturePlease arrive at the church by 11:30pm, Sunday, June 23th. We will pray and load up at 12:30am to depart at midnight.

3. SnacksYes, you can bring packaged snacks as long as it fits in your luggage or carry-on. Additionally, there will be places where you can purchase some food items if you run out.

4. CD/MP3/Game Players/Cell PhonesYou will be allowed to bring CD or MP3 players, gaming devices or any other electronic devices to use during the travel to and from. While cell phones will be allowed on the trip, we won’t allow texting during services.

5. Dress CodePlease dress modestly in everything you wear.

- For females during the morning meeting swimsuits may be worn under athletic shorts and t-shirts but must be modest. No bikinis will be allowed.

- For evening services, girls may wear modest dresses, pants or shorts. Guys should wear slacks, clean jeans, or shorts and a shirt. Cut off shirts, short shorts, midriffs, etc. will not be permitted.

- We will have a Luau party on Thursday. While it is not required many will be dressed in their Hawaiian attire.

Leaders will enforce the dress code so please bring clothes that are appropriate for Youth Camp.

Recreation during Youth Camp takes place on the beach! Keep this in mind when you are planning what clothes to bring. You will want to bring older

Dress Code (continued)clothes, shoes and flip flops to wear during the recreation time that can get wet & sandy.

We have no control over clothes left at the rooms during the day so we would suggest not packing expensive clothes.

Remember to bring a Connect ’16-’19 edition t-shirt for a group pic and possible baptism.

6. Camp ApparelYou will be provided a Camp Padre19 t-shirt and bandana when we arrive to Padre Island.

7. MoneyCampers may want to bring about $10-20 a day for spending money. There will be concession breaks throughout the day to allow campers to buy refreshments. And we will go souvenir shopping at least once.

8. MealsAll of the campers meals while AT “Camp Padre19” will be covered. Students are responsible for bringing any extra money or extra snacks for the travel to and from Tyler.

Monday’s breakfast & lunch as well as Friday’s meals will be the camper’s responsibility.

9. Medical CareWe will be bringing with us a first-aid kit for any injuries that someone might sustain. In addition, we are less than 4 or 5 blocks from a Care Now Center.

10. SunblockBring sunblock! You will be on the beach for endless hours in the sun in the middle of summer. The last thing in the world you want is to burn. Cover up whenever possible!

11.SuitcasesYou may bring as much stuff on this trip as you want, as long as you can get it into one suitcase and one carry-on. That is all that will be allowed.

Fundraising The Plan to Get You the Cash You Need

How to Raise Your Cash Without Landing in Jail!31 Surefire Ways to Help You Earn/Raise Your Youth Camp Money. The Bible says that faith without actions is dead. In other words, you’re going to have to do something to make this happen. I believe God wants to give you creative ideas from Heaven that will unlock the door to meeting your goal. In effort to help get you started, we have included a long list of ideas. But the key is to start! You can do this!

1. Give up 1 soda a day - water is better for you anyway2. Give up one movie a week3. Give up half of your allowance each week4. Give up one “out-to-eat” meal a week5. Fill 1 Pringles can with loose change. (Ask parents to help contribute by putting in all their left over

pocket change. A filled up can will typically equate to $100)6. Give up buying a few songs a week from iTunes7. Create key chains (and sell them)8. Walk pets - for cash9. Wash pets - for cash10. Pet sit11. Spray paint the numbers on curbs in front of homes12. Wash neighbors cars13. Make necklaces (and sell them)14. Make Easter baskets (and sell them)15. Decorate Easter eggs (and sell them)16. Have a personal walk-a-thon17. Sell baked goods18. Make earrings (and sell them)19. Water plants/pull weeds - for cash20. Mow lawns21. Tutor22. Clean gutters23. Run errands24. Wash cars at a dealership25. Clean houses26. Trim hedges27. Wash windows28. Baby-sit twice a week for 5 hrs29. Host a garage sale30. Get a job and give $20 a week31. Donation Box Out

Most of the ideas above work better if you have several friends or teammates helping you. You will be able to get more done and raise more funds. Just make sure that you decide how to split the money before you get started and that you are equally working.

Fundraising The Plan to Get You the Cash You Need

Sample Support LetterDear Mr. and Mrs. Potential Sponsor,

I’ve been given a really exciting opportunity and I want to share it with you! This summer I have the opportunity to be part of an incredible camp composed of teens from my youth ministry at Rose Heights Church and all over the mid-south who will be headed to South Padre Island to be challenged to live a life character, purity, and honor.

But I have one slight challenge. I need to help raise/earn $700 for the total cost of my trip, which isn’t much considering I’ll be gone for five days and it covers all my meals, lodging, transportation, and all the expenses of the camp!

That’s the reason for my letter. I am taking responsibility to help pay for the trip. However, I would like to work for my money instead of just asking for your donations.

FOR INSTANCE

1. I would be happy to babysit your kids while you and your spouse have a date night. Or, maybe your normal babysitter is busy for the night and you need an alternative.

2. I would also be happy to help out for the day. Maybe you have a lot of chores that need to be done one Saturday, and you don’t have enough time to finish them all. Call me and I would be happy to come by and help.

Will you also consider supporting me financially? Your support and prayers mean a great deal to me.

Thank you for sharing in this opportunity to influence the lives of many people. Please call me at (000) 000-0000 if you have any questions and I will try to answer them. Thank you for considering helping me.

God Bless,

(hand sign each letter here)
