PawPrints Magazine's HOMELESS COVER MODEL

I’m a loveable, affectionate orange Tabby boy named

Mr. Kitty and I’ve been homeless since January 8!

The folks at the New Hanover Humane Society are so surprised that I’ve

been overlooked for so long. I hope someone will fall in love with my cover photo and come visit me at the shelter. You’ll find a very

friendly boy waiting for you! I’m already neutered, vaccinated and litterbox-trained, and I get along great with the other cats at the shelter.

In fact, I’ve taken several kittens under my care, bathing and washing them, just like any good foster

daddy would. I also enjoy being around humans and possess a calm, mellow, laid-back attitude. You’ll

never be lonely again with me in your life! Please call the New Hanover Humane Society at 910-763-6692 to find out how you can take me home. I’d like to now thank Mr. Dick Parrott for taking my photo and giving me a chance to shine. Maybe it’ll be just the thing I

need to get my new family’s attention and love!

EXTREMELY URGENT! I’m Running Out Of Time!! How can my sweet face be

running out of time? My name is Rufus (CM3600)

and I’m a Bulldog/Mastiff mix boy with a heart that’s simply full of love! I have been liv-ing here since April and am

already neutered. I can even sit on command and I love to catch treats in my mouth. I have a genuine love for people and enjoy

being with them. I just don’t understand how I’ve been overlooked? During my stay at this shelter, I lived in a foster home for a brief time. Here is what my foster mom had to say about me: “Rufus has

been out walking, running and SWIMMING with my daughter for the past few weeks. During this time our female Husky has run with him and our 120 pound Pit/

Hound mix has been around him. He has NOT exhibited any aggression. He is a WONDERFUL, GENTLE dog." I had a great time with my foster family, but now I’m back at the shelter and time is running out for me. Please, please

take a look at my sweet face and come visit me at the shelter. We could have a great life together! Please call Pender County Animal Control at 910-259-1349 or Officer

Clewis at 910-279-3196. They’ll be happy to give you driving directions or tell you even more!

I am sponsored by the Keffer pack: Dixie, Luke, Kira and Jackson. Please consider adoption. Thank you!

Small, Cuddly Dog Alert! My name is Birdie

(A043291), but I could be named CuddleBunny.

When the PawPrints la-dies took me into the playroom for photos, I immediately wanted to cuddle up in their laps. All I want is to be loved. I’ll sit patiently at your feet while you rub me,

and I’ll flop over for belly rubs as well. I was found as a stray on a local golf course (hence my new

name, Birdie), but some-one must have once loved me as I have no fear of hu-

mans and instantly want to be held and snuggled. In my photo, you can see that I also sit on command. I was sit-ting for a treat, and when they gave it to me I took it very gently. I will also sit for you when I notice you pull out a

leash. If you want to see my loving personality, you sim-ply must take me into the playroom. I’m an awesome,

affectionate girl and the PawPrints ladies really hated to leave me. The shelter foks tell me I’m around 2-year-old and it’s a mystery what I’m mixed with, but whatever it is,

it’s small and cute! If you’d like to meet or adopt me, please call Brunswick County Animal Control at

910-754-8204 and let’s get together!

I am sponsored by Adam’s Folly Pet Boarding, Bolivia, NC. Thank you!

I wish you’d come pick

me up out of this dog bed and take me home with you! My name is

Dixie and I’m a 5-year-old Chihuahua

with beautiful red fur. I’m a

little sad right now because my owner passed away and I can’t really figure out why my life has changed. I’m cur-

rently in a foster home and they’re giving me lots of TLC. I have great house manners, am house-trained and am

very sweet and friendly. I’d love to find a new home that is quiet, maybe with an older person who I could keep com-pany. Oh, one more thing, I’m already spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. So if you or someone you know could use the companionship of a sweetheart like me, call Paw’s Place at 910-845-7297 and let’s meet!

I am sponsored by Marybeth & Elliott Tepper in loving memory of Charleston and Scarlet, who loved all their

sisters and brothers. We all miss you so much.

I’M WONDERFUL WITH KIDS!!! My name is

Kaci and I’m a very sweet

girl who needs a new home, pref-erably one with chil-dren. I

LOVE chil-dren, and I’m also

good with other dogs and cats. At about 6 to 7-years-old, I am a Plott Hound/

Whippet mix who is already spayed, vaccinated, on heart-worm prevention and flea medication. I’m also house-

trained and leash-trained! I came from a situation of ne-glect, but I’m doing great now and am so happy to be in a loving foster home while I wait for my new family. If you’d like to meet me, please contact my foster mom, Leanne, at 910-538-0106. You’ll find that I’m the perfect girl for you!

I am sponsored by jeetkunedog canine behavior

management (www.jeetkunedog.com), addressing the whole dog inside your home.

I’m a great family dog named Baxter! Sadly, my owners moved away and couldn’t take me with them. This

could be your lucky day, though, be-

cause I’d be such a great companion! I’m a 28-pound

Beagle boy who is already house-

trained and leash-trained. I know

how to sit on com-mand and can do a few other tricks. At just 4-years-old, I’m already neutered, vaccinated and on heartworm pre-

vention. I enjoy playing with children and am a very sweet, affectionate boy. I love going for walks and would

greatly appreciate the exercise as I could stand to lose just a few pounds. If you’d like to share your life with a friendly sweetheart like me, please call Paw’s Place at

910-845-7297 and let’s get together!

I am sponsored by Amy Dugan. Thank you!

Not too long ago, I was standing in the middle of the street with my puppy, cars whizzing past. Luckily, some-

one stopped and picked us up before we were killed. The town

we were in was Navassa, so that has

become my name! I’m a 2-year-old female

Cattle Dog mix who is already house-trained and leash-trained. I’m friendly to everyone I meet, but can be a bit

shy at first. Don’t worry, I warm up quickly! My puppy has been adopted and I’m ready for a new home, too. I think

I’d prefer a quiet household where I can get lots of love. If you’re retired or work from home, that would be awesome! I’m already spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm preven-

tion and I’ve been told that I’m a very beautiful dog. To see me in person, or for more information, please call Paw’s Place at 910-845-7297. I’d love to meet you!

I am sponsored by Marybeth and Elliott Tepper in loving memory of Tripp (who was adopted from

Paw’s Place). We love him so much!

►My name is Tucker and I am a super sweet boy! I am neu-tered, vaccinated, and heart-worm negative. I am com-

pletely house-trained and have very good house manners. I

am around 2 to 3-years-old and I came out of Pender Animal

Control back in January during their first septic crisis. I have been attending adoption fairs

ever since, but have been get-ting overlooked for some rea-son. I absolutely love people and I am very low energy. I just want to be with my people and go with the flow - I am flexible. I am a mid-sized dog around 40 pounds and am

very eager to please. I do well with toddlers and kids, but not babies. The crying freaks me out. I also would do better in a home without other cats and dogs since I am a little too inter-

ested in them. So, if you only have room in your home for one animal....CHOOSE ME!

►I am Jake, a 2-year-old German Shepherd/Hound mix who does well with other animals, including cats! I

am a very sweet dog with lots of energy. I bark a little bit at people walking down the street, but not enough to be a problem. I like to

put my front paws around your hips and give BIG hugs. Most people

don't mind, and with more training it can be corrected, but for now I

should be in a home with older kids. I need a lot of love and attention, and plenty of space to run. I really don't like to be left alone for too long, so plan on hav-ing a loyal sidekick in your everyday life. I am a very loving

and affectionate kisser, too!

►My name is Farrah and I’ve had a really rough

start. Since I am a Staf-fordshire Terrier, I am

looking for someone ex-perienced with my breed.

Since my history is un-known, I am not recom-mended for a family with other pets or small chil-

dren. You can tell by my teeth and the condition I was in that my life was rough before I came to

Adopt-An-ANGEL. Now, I have fattened up, my coat is shiny, my overall health has improved tremendously and I am blossoming. I am abso-lutely devoted to you if you just spend some time with me. I walk well on a leash, am house-trained and heartworm negative. If you look closely into my eyes in this picture, you can almost look into my soul and feel my heartache.

►My name is Foxy and I am a middle aged, no nonsense

kind of girl. I am house-trained and very sweet. I walk well on a leash, am heartworm

negative and get along great with cats and dogs. I am not

recommended for a home with small kids. I like to lay around

and sit by your feet and I would make an awesome

companion for a retired cou-ple. I am easy since I am

already trained.

◄Hello, my name is Jellybean and I’m one of the most affectionate cats you’ll ever have the good fortune to meet. I will curl my head into your palm and rub my soft nose on your fingers. Being touched by humans is something I greatly welcome! I’m a 1-year-old, grey and white girl who was found as a stray. Let’s go!

►I kinda look like one of those little monkeys with the big gold eyes, but I promise you that I’m a cat! My name is

Summer and I’m completely adorable.

Hearts melt all the time over me, so why

haven’t I been adopted? I once had a home, but they had

no time for me and brought me to the

shelter. I love to play, cuddle and purr.

Could you give me the love and care I need?

Thank You to Trish Arnold and the other Bow Wow Luau volunteers for holding such a fantastic event for Adopt-An-ANGEL.

The Bow Wow Luau was a smashing success!

I’m Francesca and this is my buddy, Half Moon-Pie. We do not have to be adopted together and would be happy to find two loving families! Here’s my story: My foster mom thinks I'm unusually lovable for a cat. In fact, I'd love to

hang out in your lap all day, if you'd let me! I like to stand up and hug your neck and give you little kisses and nose

touches! I get along with everybody, but am a little shy...just at first. I love to play with anything: pens, pen

tops, paper balls, beat up rugs. I even like to ride around on your shoulders! I'm probably close to 2-years-old and my foster mom prefers me to be indoor only. If you'd love

to be loved by a most engaging kitty, that's me! Now, as for my friend, Half Moon-Pie, here is her story: She is a ‘Blue

Tortie’ with the split color face and is probably close to about 3-years-old. She LOVES to sit on your lap, or right

beside you, and be your love muffin! She can tolerate other cats and dogs, but would rather have her own personal

HUMAN! She does LOVE to play, and can volley a paper ball to you with great accuracy! If you have a Forever Lap in need of a GREAT LAP CAT and can keep her indoors-

only as well...she’s your girl! To adopt one of us or find out more, please call our foster mom at 910-270-9892.

▲URGENT, URGENT! Our time is running out! How can it be that two adorable kittens like us have been

overlooked? We are Diddy (A041449) and Deena (A041447) and we are praying that two loving families will come adopt each of us. (Or we can be adopted together.) We love to be cuddled, we love to play, and we love to be kissed and petted. Give us new chances at life, please!

►I’m a Shar-Pei mix named Baby Bear (A043209) and I’m simply great! I love everyone I meet and my tail wags a mile a

minute. At just 8-months-old, I’m a

little girl who comes to you with terrific quali-

ties: I’m already spayed and I can sit on command. That’s what I’m doing in my

photo, sitting and waiting for a treat. I listen well and am

highly trainable. I’m friendly and happy and I get along with other dogs. Take me in the playroom and get to know me - you’ll love me!

►Valentine (A043804) is my name, and it’s because

I’m such a loving boy. I recently lost my home be-cause my owner moved to Utah and couldn’t take me with her. It makes me sad

to be alone at the shelter. I miss being with humans,

sitting in their laps and giv-ing love. I’m already neu-tered and I’m just 1-year-

old. There’s so many years ahead for me to be an ex-cellent companion. Come

meet me and fall in love!

◄I’m a gorgeous Tortoiseshell named Sandra (A043275) and I could be yours if you’re the fortunate one who adopts me! You see, I have a very friendly and affectionate personality and am so happy to meet new people. I like to greet you and give head butts to your fingers. At just 2-years-old, I have a lot of years ahead to make my new family very happy. Let’s go home!

►I’m the sweetest little Basset Hound you ever did see. And just look at these big brown eyes...how can

you resist me? My name is Lydia (A043450) and I’m a darling girl who was found as a stray. It’s a mystery

how someone as loving and friendly as me ever ended

up on their own. I should be in a house, snuggling with my humans, gazing up at

them with my soulful eyes. If you’re a Basset Hound

lover, or know of someone who is, please tell them about me! Time is of the essence, and I’m so ready to make

someone very happy. Come on over and meet me!

►I once was part of a loving home, but my owner could

no longer afford to keep me and brought me to Animal

Control. Hi, my name is Bell (A043342) and I’m a young adult female Tabby with an

extremely loving and friendly personality. If you open my

cage, I’ll walk over to you for head rubs and purrs. I’d be a

great companion for any lucky family, so do yourself a gigantic favor and adopt me!

Page 12: PawPrints Magazine September 2011

12 www.PawPrintsMagazine.com September 2011

Isn’t this a sweet face? My personality is even sweeter! My name is

Daisy and I’m a 9 pound Terrier mix fe-

male. I’m buff-colored and quite adorable! My owners moved

away and couldn’t take me with them, so now I’m looking for another

lucky family to love. I’m currently in a foster home and living with dogs, cats and some ferrets! We all get

along just swell. I’m a very social, affection-ate girl and enjoy be-

ing around my humans. At just 1-year-old, I’m already spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. And oh yes, I will come to you house-trained and leash-trained! If a friendly and cute companion is your heart’s desire, call

Paw’s Place at 910-845-7297 and ask for me!

I am sponsored by Amy Dugan. Thank you!

I’m such a little gentle-man! Hello, my name is James and I’m a very

handsome adult Dachs-hund who is well-

behaved and extremely loving. I was found as a stray and was turned in

to Animal Control. That’s where Pender

County Humane Society found me. They knew they could find a home

for a sweetheart like me! I adore being with peo-

ple and I get along great with other dogs, but I

just haven’t warmed up to cats. I am already vaccinated and neutered and I walk well on a leash. Taking a walk with me is pure pleasure. I am just a true joy to have around - attentive, mellow and sweet. If you’d like to

adopt me, call the shelter today! Their number is 910-259-7022. I can’t wait for us to get together!

I am sponsored by Cindy Meyers in loving memory of

CAT: Cat Adoption Team

◄I’m a beautiful Dilute Calico girl named

Dutchess. See that kitten right beside me?

That’s my baby girl, Daphne. She and I were rescued by Cat

Adoption Team just as we were running out of time at a local shelter. Now we’re looking for loving familes who will make sure we’re safe

and happy forever! I’m a 1-year-old darling who

gets along great with other cats. And I simply ADORE people! I will

purr my way into your home and heart. Come meet me!

◄Hello! My name is Caddo and I’m a

1-year-old Tabby boy. If you’re looking for a very friendly and social com-panion, I’m your guy! I love everyone and have a great time playing with

toys. I get along well with other felines and

would be a superb play-mate or cuddle-mate for children. My back leg

curls under slightly at the toes, but it doesn’t bother me a bit. I run, walk and play just fine. I’m also

neutered, vaccinated, and litterbox-trained!

◄You could be sharing your life with a precious baby kitten real soon! All you have to do is come visit me - Daphne - and fall in love! See the cat pictured next to me? That’s my mom and her name is Dutchess. She and I are looking for wonderful homes. I’m a 12-week-old girl who loves people, toys and other kitties. I will put a smile on your face 24/7. Hurry up and come adopt me!

◄You are staring deeply into my eyes. You cannot look away. You will be mine! My name is Missy and I’m a 1-year-old Tortie girl who is hoping to convey the depth of my love for you with my soulful gaze. I would be a perfect companion. I get along well with people and cats and LOVE to play with toys. I’m spayed, up to date on shots, vaccinated, and ready to go home!

►Hi! Has adopting a kitten been on your

mind lately? How about me? My name is Buffet and I’m a 4-month-old

male kitten. I’m named for my fur, a beautiful

buff color. I was found at Animal Control where I was being cared for by two feline moms. That’s how cute I am, I guess! Women just fight over me. I get along well

with people and other cats and am a darling,

sweet boy. I’ve already been neutered and am vaccinated and litterbox-trained.

►Aren’t we cute? Just look how we’re posing for our photo. Don’t let our efforts go to waste - come adopt one or both of

us! We are Tiny and Olivia, a pair of sibling Tabbies with adorable, friendly personalities. We

love to play, nap, eat and cuddle - not

necessarily in that order. We also

have another sister named Cleo. At just 12-weeks-old, we’re ready to go home!

Whoa! Check out my one blue eye! It’s quite striking

and goes really well with my brown eye, don’t you think? My name is Alicia and I'm a

3-year-old female Hound dog-gie who is looking for a home.

As far as my name goes, I love it. I was named after a sweet and compassionate

volunteer who spent countless hours with those like me

searching for woofever and purrever homes. I’m bound to

bring happiness and good karma into your life after being named for a person like that!

And here’s more good news: I’m spayed, current on all vaccinations and on heartworm preventative. I get along well with other dogs, love going for walks, and am very

friendly to all my human friends. If you’d like to meet me in person, please call Pender County Humane Society at 910-259-7022. They can answer any questions you might have

or give you driving directions. See you soon!

I am sponsored by George, Brenda and John Harriss in loving memory of Miss Scarlett, Rosie Belle, Candy and

Lady, special friends, all.

Hi, I'm Cookie. My ex-"person" pur-

chased me to hunt but I didn't think that

was such a good idea. Hunting just isn’t in my heart.

So, he dumped me at the local Animal Control. Nice guy, huh? I am a lucky

girl though because a very nice lady rescued me and she's my foster mom now. They tell me that I’m a Bea-gle and Bluetick Coonhound mix. I'm very friendly, love to play and would be a great member of your family. I get along with other dogs and kids, too! I’ve already been spayed, vaccinated and house-trained. Please

give me a place where I can run, jump, catch balls and live my life as it was intended...not hunting other animals!

◄We’re Polly and Paige. We’re sisters and we’re like two “Ps” in a pod. We are white cats with some spots of color thrown in, gray tabby for Paige and calico for Polly. We are only 4-months-old, and of course, we just love to play. You don’t have to take both of us, but if you did we would-n’t fight over who got to sleep in the bed!

◄You know, you can thank Shake-speare for my name, Olivia. He coined it in “Twelfth Night”. And it’s no surprise, I am very active, much like an actor would be. So it is the perfect name for me! I am a beautiful Torti with lots of gold and orange and I’m just a baby at only 5-months-old.

►White is what I am and Webb is

my name. I can’t claim to be

all white, I do have a spot of gray on the top of my head, and

I’m hoping I grow out of it. My dream is to be an all white

cat; my passions are playing, lov-ing, and eating. Wait a minute, I

sound like a pageant contestant, and I’m a male! Quick, come adopt me

before that inner pageant dream comes out for good.

▲Although my name is Angelo, which we all know means angel, let me tell you I can be quite the devil as well. I am very affectionate, but first I have to run, skip, and jump! I am the only survivor out of my litter, so I took all the atten-tion and made it my own! I am used to being spoiled, so I

expect no less. At only 4-months-old, I am still a baby with lots of growing to do.

◄Much like the real

Batman, I am very

acrobatic, making

great leaps and jumps,

and just being en-

tertaining in general. The only

difference is I don’t wear a

mask because I am too cute. Just look at me! I am a 5-month-old black and white teenage kitten just waiting

for you to take me home. You can be my sidekick Robin.

►My owners brought me here to the shelter and sur-rendered me because they can no longer care for me.

That really broke my heart but I’m a Champ (A257814) and

I’m not letting it get me down. I’m an avid toy lover - I love

them all: stuffed, squeaky or balls. I toss them in the air

and catch them with my mouth. Let me entertain you!

I know how to sit for a treat and I’m happy, social and

ready to love. If you want to adopt a good dog, pick me!

◄HELP, I’m running out of time! I’ve been waiting for so long and still haven't found my

forever home. My name is Elvie (A257407) and

I’m a Labrador Retriever and Boxer mix who can

give “high 5s”! I also know how to sit and

shake on command. I’m happy, friendly, eager to please and need a home with a loving, active fam-ily. I’m a spayed girl and at 11-months of age, I’m still a puppy. I would like for my new home to have

a fenced yard for me to go out and play in. Plenty of doggy toys would be an added bonus, too. In return, I promise to

be a great companion and to make you smile and feel loved.

◄Hi, my name is Sandy (A259295) and I had a loving home.

Unfortunately, my pop went into the hospital

for what was sup-posed to be a brief

stay, but now it looks like he will never be able to return home. That means I have to find a new family to take care of. I’m an 11-month-old Labra-

dor Retriever mix who is spayed and vacci-nated for rabies. I’m and inside dog who is

house-trained and good with other animals. I’m a sweet girl who will sit next

to you and lean against you. I am very playful, I like to have fun, I love adventure, I can sit on command and I enjoy all kinds of toys. Won’t you please adopt me?

►My owners surrendered me to the shelter because they were allergic to cats.

I’m Bella (A259692) and I’m looking for someone who has a big heart and who

isn’t allergic to felines! At just 3-years of age, I like exploring and I’ll rub up

against you for affection. I’m sad about being home-less and in a cage. I find it terribly lonely and boring. I

want to be cherished and safe in your home. Would

you adopt an extremely friendly, affectionate, docile

yet playful feline friend?

◄My name is Earl (A259436). Ha, like the television show. My version of winning the lottery would be finding an adoptive family. I’m a 3-year-old boy who is already neutered and declawed. I am very social and I love to be rubbed. I’m quiet, I have bright green eyes and I’ve got a heart of gold. Please give me the chance to fill your home with love.

◄My name is Claudia (A259691) and I came to the shelter with my buddy, Bella. We had a loving home but because a hu-man was allergic to us, we’ve ended up here at the shelter. We are both litter-trained, we lived with kids ages 3 and up, and we’ve even lived with dogs. I am 5-years-old, spayed, and super friendly. I like to make you feel loved and will wind myself around your legs.

Hello, friends! I’m a Calico girl named Selena, and this is my

brother, Sonny. He’s a handsome orange and white boy. Our story starts out a bit sad, but we’re sure the happy ending is coming! You

see, we were abandoned in a motel room when our owner lost her job and home. A visitor from Florida found us, rescued us, and called Cat Adoption Team. Now we’re

searching for a loving home where hopefully we can stay together. We

make a great team and would be terrific company for you. And when

you’re at work, Sonny and I can keep each other company! We are very gentle and loving and simply enjoy hanging out at home. We

appreciate all the petting we receive and also like to play - alone and

with each other. You might notice that our ears are clipped - this shows that we have been spayed and neutered. It was probably done when we

were kittens. Today, we are just 1-year-old and already vaccinated and litterbox-trained. We get along well with

adults, children and other cats and have affectionate per-sonalities. Would you like to adopt us? Please call Cat Adoption Team at 910-792-9014 and tell them you’d like to know more. We’re also at Petsmart 7 days a week!

We are sponsored by Adair H. Douglass, II in honor

of Chanel and Cheerio.

◄Hello there! My name is

Mama Cat and I’m a 1-year-old who looks more like a

kitten herself! I was found as a stray and was

taken inside by a very kind lady.

She already had several cats, so now I’m looking for another loving home. See that kitten named Susie pictured beside me? She’s not my baby, but I treat her like she is, and I’ll lick and clean her. Don’t you think a great girl like me de-serves a fabulous home? I’m such a sweetie - come visit!

►Hey there, my name is Julius! If you’re look-

ing for a fine friend, you’re in great luck. I

am here to apply for that position! I’m a 3½-year-old male German Shep-

herd mix who was brought to the shelter

because my owners had no time for me due to

their work schedule. I get along great with kids 4-years-old and up and

would love to become part of your family!

◄If you’re ready for a kitten to bring joy and happiness into your life, get ready for me! My name is Susie and I’m a 4-month-old girl who is already spayed, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. I may be a little shy when you first meet me, but I warm up quickly and am very happy to be rubbed and touched. I also like to play with toys and I get along great with other felines. Let’s get to know each other, okay?

◄I’m such a cute boy! They tell me I’m a cross between a Jack Russell Terrier and a French Bull-dog. Hi, my name is Rex and I’m a 1-year-old fellow who weighs in at a mere 13 pounds. I love to be held, as you can plainly see! I’m already neutered and also house-trained. I love to go for rides in the car and I walk well on a leash. I even get along great with other dogs. So what are you waiting for? Let’s go!

►Don’t you just want to pick me up and take me home? It’s easy - come on over here and meet

me and fill out the paper-work. Maybe we’ll be a

match! My name is Scruffy and I’m a 2-year-old male Poodle mix with a gentle heart and soul.

I’m already house-trained and I like to go for rides in the car. I get along great with other small

dogs and I enjoy playing with toys and cuddling in blankets. If you’d like to hear even more about

me, call the shelter. Or better yet, come for a visit!

Hi there, my name is Duncan! I’m a young,

adult, male purebred mini-Schnauzer who was thrown away at a shelter in horrible condition and would have

definitely perished had Schnauzer Rescue of the

Carolinas (SRC) not stepped up to help me survive. I had

developed a skin allergy, quite possibly from flea in-festation and it had turned into running sores. I was

shaved to the skin on the majority of my body so that these sores could be treated. My level of pain must have been completely unbearable and yet I’ve never shown any ag-

gression! SRC has worked to assure that I got everything I needed and now I can have a fresh start and find a home that will treat me like the angel that I am! If you are inter-

ested in me, visit www.schnauzerrescueofthecarolinas.org. There you can view more adoptable dogs and fill out an

application. If you need an application mailed or faxed to you, call 910-264-8300.

I am sponsored by State Farm Rob Cutting Insurance

Agency in honor of Molly.

Hey, my name is Sydney! I’m a beautiful, 1-year-old Australian Shepherd and Border Collie Mix. I was

purchased from a breeder who told my old owner that I was purebred. My old owner found out I was deaf and my

breeder wouldn’t take me back, so I was turned over to

the Australian Shepherd Rescue and Placement

Helpline. I’ve found a really cool foster mom here! She’s taught me all sorts of awe-some tricks! I love to play

fetch and can catch the ball. My foster mom say’s I’m a diamond in the rough, but I just think I’m a diamond. I’m spayed, up to date on my shots

and on heartworm prevention. I can’t wait for the right forever home to come along! Please visit the Australian Shepherd Rescue and Placement Helpline website at

www.aussierescue.org to find the adoption form to fill out, or call 1-877-277-4779 for more information.

◄I’m Beau, a sweet, handsome, 60-pound

Hound in need of a new family! I was part of a litter of twelve puppies that was adopted out

four years ago. Sadly, my owner became very ill and could no longer keep me. The good news is that I have

perfect house manners and am well behaved! I walk nicely on a leash, am house-trained, can sit for a cookie, and I

get along well with other dogs and human

children. I am even used to sleeping in bed with my family, if it’s allowed. Please give me a home!

◄My name is Holly and I was

found by the railroad tracks on Christmas Eve.

I’m a 23-month-old Hound with one

blue eye and one brown. I’m so

pretty! Right now I weigh 50 pounds,

but I could stand to gain another five.

I’m great with other dogs and love to play. I enjoy rawhides, going for walks

and getting hugged and kissed by humans. I have a gentle personality and am already spayed, vaccinated

and on heartworm prevention. Come meet me!

◄My name is Todd and I’m a great dog! My date of birth is April 1, 2004

and I weigh 70 pounds. I’m full of love and I’m also full of fun for you and your children or grandkids. I’m house-trained and I have good house manners. If you already have a

dog, please bring him or her to Paw’s Place so that we can become fast friends. I’m just aching to be some

special person’s best buddy and companion. Don’t make me wait - I’ve been at the shelter too long!

◄I’m a small Hound - just 30 pounds - and I was

found as a stray in South Carolina. My name is Juliet and I’m a sweet,

gentle, 1-year-old girl who would love to live in a quiet

home with my very own Romeo. I play extremely well with other dogs and enjoy taking walks. I’m

looking for a person or fam-ily with a fenced-yard and a desire to share their life

with a good-natured girl like me. I’m already spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm

prevention. How about giving this Juliet a happy ending?

◄Hello! I’m Sugar Pie and I’m a 4-year-old

girl. I have floppy ears as soft as

butter and I also have the most

kissable mouth. In fact, I’m kissin’ people all the time

because I’m extremely friendly and affectionate. I enjoy playing

and being with people. I love other dogs, too. I really want to be part of a family. Would you let me be your

new baby girl? I’ve been here too long!

Save lives…please spay or neuter your pets!

22 www.PawPrintsMagazine.com September 2011

Hi, my name is Moo Moo and I have a sad look on my face

because I’ve had such a rough start in life. My owner kept me in a pen for seven whole years!

Fortunately, a neighbor was able to convince my owner to

relinquish me and I’ve found my way here to Furever Friends for a second chance. I am timid,

overwhelmed and very sad but I’m also optimistic that I’ll finally know what true love is. I have shown no aggression to hu-mans or other dogs. For the

first time, I am learning what air conditioning is and I like it! At night I sleep in a kennel, but

during the day I get to hang out in Dr. Hanby’s office. I have already been neutered and vaccinated. I did test positive for heartworms and will begin treatment soon at no addi-

tional cost to my adoptive family. I’m good on leash and I’m ready to be adopted. If you are a patient and loving person,

please call Furever Friends Animal Rescue at 910-383-2100 (Monday through Saturday between 8am-6pm).

I am sponsored in appreciation of everyone who has

rescued a homeless animal.

Adopt me and you’ll have an instant best friend! Hi, my name is Maggie and I’m

ready to give you so much love - our house will be over-flowing with it! I’m a 2-year-

old Beagle/Jack Russell Terrier mix who weighs in at a perfectly sized 22 pounds. You can see how adorable I am in my photo. You can

also see that I know how to sit on command. I was so

happy to obey and was even more happy to receive a

treat in return. I’d be a great addition for a family with children, and I also get along well with other dogs. I love to play, so a fenced-in yard is a must. We will have such fun there together! I’m sure I’d chase a Frisbee, ball or

any other toy you’d like to toss my way. As for my health, I’m already spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm pre-

vention. So, are you ready to bring me home? Call Pen-der County Humane Society at 910-259-7022. They’ll tell

you how we can get together!

I am sponsored by State Farm Rob Cutting Insurance Agency in honor of Luna.

URGENT, URGENT!!I’m Running Out of Time! It makes absolutely

no sense that a fam-ily dog like me is fac-ing an uncertain fu-

ture at an animal shelter! I am so com-

fortable and well-behaved around hu-mans and would fit perfectly into any-one’s home. My name is Buddy

(CM3868) and I’m a male Boxer mix who loves attention, walks well on a leash and knows basic com-

mands. In fact, when they came to take my

photo, I sat down without even being asked - it was as though I knew exactly

what to do. I was found as a stray but it sure seems as though I was part of a family at one time. I get along well

with other dogs and love to be cuddled by humans. I have a quiet, laid-back demeanor and beautiful brown eyes that will melt your heart. Please come to the shelter and adopt me!! I need your love NOW. Please call Pender County Animal Control at 910-259-1349 or Officer Clewis at 910-

279-3196. They’ll be happy to give you driving directions or tell you even more!

I am sponsored by Kathy Lanio. Thank you!

My name is Cleo and I was adopted 6-years ago as a puppy

and was recently returned. Sometimes I got along with

other dogs (at times there were 5 in the house) and other times I didn't. When I was returned, the

volunteers noticed that I was lactating even though I had

been spayed a long time ago. They consulted with a vet and had me re-spayed. If any rem-nants of my ovaries were left

behind at all, I would continue to cycle or go into heat even though I was technically fixed. During my sur-

gery, they found that one of my ovaries had re-grown and wrapped around one of my kidneys. All of it was removed, so now I only have one kidney. That could

also explain why sometimes I was hormonal and lashed out at the other dogs and why sometimes I was ok. If any of you females out there have ever had PMS, you can relate! The people fostering me

have not seen any issues at all. I am a doll, but would prefer a female-only home. If a man should adopt me, that's ok too as long as he is patient and gentle. I am heartworm negative and have had all

my shots, plus I have been spayed twice! To adopt me, please call Adopt-An-ANGEL at 910-392-0557.

Hey there, every-one! My name is Casey and I'm a 2 to 3-year-old female English

Foxhound looking for my woofever

home! I'm spayed, current on my vaccina-

tions, leash-trained and on heartworm pre-vention. One

year ago, I was found running

around as a stray by a nice lady and was brought here to the Pender County Humane Society. I love meeting all the new people coming to the shelter, but I especially love

playing with the other homeless dogs. Do you have a dog who could use a buddy? Bring him or her out

here and let’s have a playdate! You never know, you just might want to bring me home. Although they’re

very nice to me here, I'm hoping to find someone who will give me all of the attention and loving I

crave. If that could be you, let’s meet! For directions or any other info, call the shelter at 910-259-7022.

Holy Cow, I am CUTE with my ears that perk

up and curl! My name is Whoopi and I was

turned in to Animal Con-trol where I was over-looked for a long time. For several months, I shared my cage with dog after dog. They kept getting adopted instead of me. I was such a sweetie and

each time I told them, "Go ahead and outshine me, it's ok. I know you need a home and I will

make this sacrifice for you." So, I allowed the adopter to adopt them instead of me. Before too long, I ran out of time myself. I was just a puppy and I grew of age at the shelter. Fortunately, when my luck ran out, Adopt-An-ANGEL took me in. They knew I was a special dog

who was humble and deserved a chance, too. I am 6-months-old, I love to play and I am learning how to be a dog. Will you finally adopt me and give me the

home I deserve? If you would like to know more infor-mation about me or to inquire about adoption, please

call Adopt-An-ANGEL at 910-392-0557.

Can you hear me purring? My

name is Rosie and I’m an ex-

tremely affection-ate kitty who is

looking for a good home. I was

brought to Pender County Humane Society by a nice

lady who had been feeding me

when I was a stray hanging out by a storage unit. I get along great

with the other kitties at the shel-

ter and I love getting attention from humans! I’m spayed, current on vaccinations, litterbox-trained and

just 1-year-old, so I’d be very grateful to have a furever home! Come to the shelter and get to know me. It’s a cage-less environment, so you can play with me and watch me interact with the other kitties

and all the toys that are laying around. If you’d like to get things started, call Pender County Humane Soci-

ety at 910-259-7022 and tell them you’re on your way!

NOW OPEN - 9am to 4pm on Saturdays!

Hi, my name is Lola and I am a 4-year-old Shepherd/Lab mix who has an old cruciate ligament tear that requires me to remain on glucosamine for my life-

time. The injury was too old to be surgi-cally repaired. I am a sweet-loving gal, but I don't always get along with some other dogs. I generally get along well with docile male dogs. I am in a won-derful foster home with Sunburst Foun-

dation, but I really want a home and family of my own. Well, recently, along came sweet Hero. Hero was originally shy with people but once his extensive

medical issues were taken care of (which included heartworm disease and several decayed teeth) he has become your "new best friend." And he is also a

"canine best friend" to ME. But of course, he is smart and lets me be the

boss. We like to run and play in the yard and Hero is respectful of my space and is not too pushy with me. I would love for me and my "best bud " to be adopted to-

gether if possible. Hero is around 2-years-old and thought to be a Golden/Chow mix. Both of us are crate-trained, house-trained, up to date and will come with a microchip

and Smart ID tag from Best Friends. Please contact Sunburst Foundation for a "Meet & Greet" with two beautiful adult dogs, me and Hero. Call 910-622-0011 or go to our website and fill out an adoption application. The website

◄I’m a very friendly purebred Husky named Kilo (Q183)! I have one blue eye and one brown - most people tell me I’m simply gorgeous. You should come out and see me in person. I would be the perfect

family companion! You see, I am already fully

house-trained and crate-trained, already neutered, and I can sit

and shake on command. I’ll even start to shake ’paws’ with you without

being asked. I arrived at the shelter in July so I’m very ready to go to my new home!

◄My name is Venus (FF3643) and it’s no co-incidence that I’m named after the goddess of love. You see, I AM a goddess of love! In my photo you

can see me perched happily on this human’s

shoulder, making biscuits with my paws. I just love being with humans - on their shoulder, their lap, or in their arms. At just

1-year-old, I have every-thing it takes to make you so very happy. Come on

out to the shelter and meet me. You’ll quickly see why we should be together!

◄Will a compassionate cat lover take pity on me? My name is Brooks (FM3905) and, after 16-years of being a loving companion to my family, I was brought to Animal Control. I’m a neutered Chocolate Seal Point Siamese who has lived inside-only. I’m quite bewildered by my new surroundings, and I desperately greet any-one who comes to my cage. I want to be in a home again, PLEASE!!

◄Family Dog Alert! My name is Calvin (CM3977) and I’m a shelter favorite. I am so calm and quiet; I never bark. I’m also neutered, I love other dogs, and I can sit and shake on command. I walk well on a leash and I LOVE attention. I was brought in as a stray, but someone must have once loved me as I’m such a sweet, friendly boy. Please adopt me - I’ll make you so happy!

►I’m Brownie (CM3985), a very

loving boy, and I came to Animal Control on

July 28. I’m ready to be part of a family...maybe it could be yours? They

tell me I look like a Shepherd/Norwegian Elkhound mix. They

also tell me I have the softest, most gentle

brown eyes and that I’m a heartmelter with my

affectionate, sweet spirit. I hope someone will give me a chance to be part of their life. It’ll be one of their best decisions ever!

►It’s so easy to adopt one of us! Just come out to the shelter,

hold us in your hands, kiss us, and tell the shelter manager

you’ve made your choice!

We’re Peanut (FM3939),

Butter (FF3930) and Jelly (FM3932) and we are 7-week-old babies ready to cuddle and purr with you at our new homes.

◄Hi there! I’m Lenny, a 3-year-old neutered boy who loves to be rubbed and is very sweet. Do you have an empty spot by a window? Gazing at the world is one of my most favorite things to do! I’m also a polydactyl kitty, which means I have extra toes. They look like oven mitts. I get along well with other cats and would really love to find myself in a permanent home soon. Please come to the shelter and get to know me!

◄I’m an adorable boy named Rustie! Me and my good friend

Cliff (he’s pictured on this page, too) were left

at a local truck stop. We are very attached to one another, but we

can be separated if need be. I am a very

affectionate and loving fellow, just about

1-year-old and medium-sized. I seem to be a Shepherd mix, possibly Australian Shepherd,

and am one very good looking guy! If you’d

like to share your life with a sweetheart, here I am!

►The first things you might notice about me

are my striking blue eyes. That’s how I got

my name, Newman! (Named after Paul New-man, of course.) I’m an adorable little boy with a

mystery parentage. I have the short body of a

Corgi and the coat of a Spaniel so we’re going

with that. I love meeting new people and am very friendly and affectionate. I’d be a great family dog so please hurry on over

and let’s get acquainted!

►Need some love? You’re in luck! I am ready to bring you

lots. And you can tell by my photo that I’m a real beauty! My

name is Danielle and I was born on June 15, 2010. We cats live in a cageless

environment at the shelter, so you can really get to know me and watch me interact with the

other kitties. I love all people and am

very affectionate. I’m also spayed, up to date on shots and litterbox-trained.

►I love to play with toys and I love to cuddle with

humans! Come visit me at the shelter and we can do both. My name is Angel and I’m a Yellow Lab mix puppy, just 8-weeks-old,

who was found as a stray wandering around all by

myself. Now how on earth did a cutie pie like me get abandoned? I am such a

darling girl, already spayed and vaccinated, and will be a real joy to my new family.

Hurry over and fill out the paperwork so we can go!

►I’m Cliff and I have a wonderfully loving

personality! You’ll never believe it, but me and my best friend, Rustie, were abandonded at a local truck stop. Rustie is

pictured on this page, too. We’d love to go to a

home together, but we can be separated into two loving homes as well. I’m a Border Collie mix and

just 1-year-old. I’m already neutered, up to date on shots and very

friendly to all I meet. Why not stop by the shelter soon and get to know me?

If you look up the word ‘adorable’ in the dictionary, I’m sure you’ll

find my photo! My name is Gumbo and I’m a Bulldog/

Beagle mix who is ready-made to be a great family companion.

Just listen to all my excellent traits! I’m house-trained, leash-trained, can sit on command, I

ride well in the car and I’m excel-lent with children! In fact, I once lived happily with a 9-month-old,

a 6-year-old and a 9-year-old. Sadly, the baby developed an

allergy to dogs and I had to come to the shelter. But I just know there’s another family out there who is yearning for a great boy like me! I’m 1½-years-old and am neutered, vac-cinated and on heartworm prevention. I’m good with other

dogs, am ok with cats, and I’m not a big barker. I’m used to living indoors with my family and playing outside in a fenced-in yard. I can fetch, too! You really must come to the shel-ter to see how cute I am in person. For driving directions,

or more information, please call the New Hanover Humane Society at 910-763-6692. See you soon!

I am sponsored by Levi Donovan.

Please consider adoption.

They’ve called me

Cutie Pie and it sure is easy to see why!

I’m a 1-year-old grey and white Tabby boy who was found living alone under someone’s porch. Now

I’m at the shelter, making pals with all the other kitties and waiting

for my forever family. I love to curl up in one of the comfortable cat beds here, and you can often find me

sharing my nap time with another feline. I also love to be petted and held, so please don’t be deterred if I appear a bit timid at first. Just go ahead and start rubbing me and I’ll quickly melt into a very purry fellow. Oh yes, I’m also neutered, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. If you’re the loving family I’ve been looking for, please call Pender

County Humane Society at 910-259-7022!

I am sponsored by NCBeachBargains.com in honor of their Happy New Owners of Beach Properties.

SOAR (Southport Oak Island Animal Rescue) Please call 910-457-6340 to adopt us!

◄We are very affectionate and

loving kittens, just 16-weeks-old. I’m Polar on the left, and next to me is

my buddy Midnight. We were found

separately as strays and were taken to a

nursing momma who very generously

took us in as her own. Now we are healthy and strong, al-ready spayed/neutered, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. We also have two sisters and a brother who are looking for loving

families. Hey, why not come out to the shelter and take a look at all of us kittens! You know you’ll have a good time.

◄I’m a sweetheart

named Ruby! I was found as a

stray and the people who rescued me posted flyers but had no luck finding my former

home. They fell in love with me, but both worked long hours. That means I could be yours! I’m a very loving, friendly girl

who gets along with other dogs and also cats. I am doing great with basic commands and crate-training. Oh, I’m also spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. Come meet me today and see why I should be yours.

►I love my swim-ming pool and would

be a great beach-walking buddy! And if you have a boat I could be your first mate! My name is Lucas and I’m a 6-

month-old Black Lab mix who was found by SOAR at Bruns-wick County Animal Control. I am very playful and friendly

and show no aggres-sion towards anyone!

I’m working on my basic commands and am already neutered, vaccinated and

on heartworm prevention. Come get to know me!

►How will you ever choose

which kitten to love when each of us is so incredibly

precious! We guess you’ll just have to

come visit and give us a cuddle.

You’ll be able to tell which one is the right match. We are Sunny (orange Tabby) and Smokie and Tabby (two

brown Tabbies) who are just 16-weeks-old. We are al-ready spayed/neutered, vaccinated and litterbox-trained.

Hurry up and come visit - we’re ready to charm you!

►I bet you never imagined you could find

kittens as beautiful as us at your local

car wash! Well, that’s

where we were found. My

name is Prissy and this is my ebony friend, Black Prince. We are healthy

darlings, just 12-weeks-old, and we get along great with children, other cats and kittens, and dogs. If you’d like to meet us, please call our SOAR foster mom at 910-278-

4437. We just know one of us will steal your heart!

►My name is Frazier and I’m a Lab/Shepherd mix about 1½-years-old.

My owners couldn’t keep me because of

their own medical issues and it was a sad

day for them to bring me to the shelter. They’re

confident, however, that I’ll find a great home because I’m such a

loving, friendly boy. I know basic commands and walk superbly on a leash. I get along with

dogs and also cats!

When will it finally be my turn to be

adopted? So many of my SOAR friends have found families, but I’m still waiting. My name

is Homer and I’m a 6-year-old Hound mix

who is eager to please, a good lis-

tener, and very intelli-gent. I’m neutered, vaccinated and on

heartworm prevention. I’m extremely affec-

tionate and would love to be part of an active family who goes on

daily walks or outings to the beach or park. I love running and I love agility. Do

you have a warm heart, a cozy home and a 6-foot, fenced-in yard? Are you experienced with my breed? A confident

pack leader is just what I need! Please call SOAR at 910-457-6340 for more information on adopting me.

I am sponsored by SOAR in loving memory of all their

wonderful, furry friends who made it safely to the Rainbow Bridge.

My name is Libby but you might want to call me ‘Libby the Lovebug’. I bet you can guess why, but

I’ll tell you anyway: I’m a very sweet and affection-

ate girl who is simply grateful for the touch of a kind hand and any loving words. I was found as an

underweight stray with my canine buddy, Gus.

He’s a Hound and is also at the shelter looking for a

loving home. I’ve reached a healthy weight

in the months that I’ve been here and have made a very positive impression on

everyone with my mellow, gentle personality. I rarely even bark and recently enjoyed a walk on the beach with SOAR’s manager. I’m under 2-years-old and would love to be part of a family. Won’t you come meet me? I am

already spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. Give SOAR a call at 910-457-6340 and let’s get to know

one another!

◄I’m Rosie! I’m a medium-sized Pug/Spitz mix and, at

just 4-years-old, I’m a smart, friendly girl who would be a great agility dog. I adore

children and am friendly to adult humans as well! I do

have issues with some dogs, but I’m great with cats. I’ve been working with an obedi-ence trainer and would love to continue this training with

my new family. I’m also spayed, vaccinated and on

heartworm prevention. You’d be so lucky to share your life with a great girl like me!

◄I’m a sweet, young, male Akita/Chow mix

named Ted. I am a quiet but active dog and I’ve behaved well around

other dogs. I just ADORE people! I’m also very

smart and will go far with basic obedience. Oh yes, I’m also neutered, vacci-nated and on heartworm prevention. I’d do best with someone experi-enced with the Akita

breed. If you’re that kind of person, please call!

◄Hi there, my name is Coal, and I’m on the search for a wonderful family, one that preferably has another

dog. I’m an 8-year-old male Black Lab mix with a very loving personality. I

am house-trained, obedient and eager to please. I love

going for walks, playing with children above the age of six and I have also lived harmoniously with a cat. I would be a great compan-

ion for anyone! As for my health, I am neutered, up to date on vaccinations and on heartworm prevention. I

have great house manners and am a social, friendly boy.

To adopt or volunteer, visit the website at www.sunburstfoundationofwilmington.org. Volunteers are needed for adoption fairs,

fundraising, and showcasing dogs at events.

◄Hi, my name is Remington! I’m a 1½-

year-old male Irish Setter mix, and I have to say that I’m a very sweet boy. I’m great with people and I do well with most other dogs (but cats I like to chase). I am house-trained and will be a wonderful companion for an active family. I love to explore in the woods, so

if you’re a hiker we’d be a great match! I’m very smart, leash-trained and in great health. Take me home!

◄Hi, my name is Blondie! I’m a sweet girl who appears to be mixed between an Eskimo Dog

and a Yellow Lab. Aren’t I beautiful? I weigh 45

pounds and am house-trained and crate-trained. I’m good with other dogs,

too! At just 5-years-old, I’m spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. I’m

a bit shy, but obedience training will help my self-confidence. I have been diagnosed with epilepsy and will

need to stay on medication for my lifetime, but please don’t let that stop you from adopting me! It’s relatively inexpensive and helps me so much. Please adopt me!

My name is King and I’ve already seen the

cruel side of humans in my short life, so I need a loving home that will give

me some extra TLC to keep me from being so scared. Fortunately, my youth will help me to heal more quickly - both physi-cally and emotionally. X-rays were done when I was taken in by the res-cue and they revealed

that there had been seri-ous trauma done to me,

causing a severe fracture of bone near what would be my elbow joint. This injury

was never treated and has already healed to the point that it would be far more invasive to fix than to leave and let me learn to walk as is. It has healed without massive issues;

however, due to the fact that it was not fixed properly, there is reason to believe in years to come that I may suffer from arthritis and require medication as I age. I have obviously seen a great deal of abuse and am very frightened of eve-rything and everybody. I want to be petted and yet I am

fearful of what happens after the kindness. I need a home that understands my needs and will be willing to help heal me from the pain I have already suffered. If you are inter-

ested in me and would like to find out more, visit www.schnauzerrescueofthecarolinas.org. There you can

view more adoptable dogs and fill out an application. If you need an application mailed or faxed, call 910-264-8300.

Any Bas-set Hound lovers out

there? Because

I’m an adorable, friendly

and loving Basset

Hound mix named

Bridgette (A043337)! Check out my photo and you

will see what a pro I am at sitting on command. I’m waiting for a treat, which I take very gently from your fingers. I

was found as a stray, but I just love being with people and must have been treated well at some point in my lifetime. I love to play with toys and I simply love to be cuddled and held by humans. To see my true personality, please take

me into the playroom and spend some time with me. I promise, you’ll fall in love! I enjoy attention and being

kissed and will be delighted to get to know you. I’m just 2-years-old and have many wonderful memories to make

with my new family. For more information, please call Brunswick County Animal Control at 910-754-8204. You’ll

be so happy you came to meet me!

Donations Needed for Rescued Dogs Undergoing Heartworm Treatment Currently, Adopt-An-ANGEL (AAA) has several dogs undergoing heartworm treatment at the same time! Even at non-profit discounted rates, the treatment runs between $250-500 per dog depending on each dog’s weight. With multiple dogs going through treatment at the same time, the total cost needed rises in the thousands, which is disas-trous for a small rescue. If a lot of people help a little, the expense will be much more manageable. If you would like to pitch in, please mail checks to: Adopt-An-ANGEL, P.O. Box 15095, Wilmington, NC 28408 or visit the website at www.adoptanangel.net. Vet bills are online for you to re-view at "our vet bills" under the "about us" tab. Call 910-392-0557 for other questions.

Puppies and Kittens Need Your Help! Adopt-An-ANGEL (AAA) is seeking foster homes for young kittens and puppies. AAA will pay for vetting if you provide transportation, food, room and board. AAA is also providing a limited number of vouchers to Brunswick residents for spay/neuter surgeries for dogs to help curb the amount of puppies entering the shelters. Please call 910-392-0557 if you would like to foster and save the lives of puppies or kittens or for more info on the Brunswick dog voucher program.

Hi there, my name is Sunshine! I’m an extra-large, senior Saint Bernard girl who is very affec-

tionate and loving. I came to rescue emaciated and

scared, but I have flourished in my fos-ter home with TLC

and lots of attention. I love to be petted, and will look right into your eyes as

you rub my face and tell me how beautiful I am. I’m currently

living with six other dogs, and I do fine with them, but I would prefer to be an only dog so I can get all of the attention. I’m also spayed, vaccinated and house-

trained. If you’d like to meet me, email Cape Fear Saint Bernard Rescue at [email protected] or

call 910-547-4823.

I am sponsored by WhatsOnWilmington.com in honor of Kizzy Totten, the elder stateswoman of

rescued Rhodesian Ridgebacks. Thank you!

Need more love and fun in your life? Adopt me! My name is Roxi and I’m a 3-year-old Pit Bull Terrier with a playful and affectionate per-sonality. I once had a loving home,

but my owners moved overseas and I was unable to go. I’m now at the rescue, waiting for another lov-ing family or person to take me in. I

am used to living indoors and am house-trained, crate-trained and leash-trained. My former family had two little girls so I am accustomed to being around children. I LOVE toys and I

LOVE balls - it would be awesome to play some games in a fenced-in backyard. A young, active family would be a great match for me as I love to go to dog parks and other outings. I’m very family friendly and am used to riding in the shopping cart at Petsmart. I would be an excellent candidate for agil-ity and am bright, alert and attentive. I know how to sit on

command and am already spayed, vaccinated and on heart-worm prevention. Would you like to meet me? Are you fa-miliar with my breed? If so, please call Pender Endangered Animal Rescue (PEAR) at 910-675-0867 or email [email protected]. Oh, if you already have a dog, bring him

or her to our get-together so we can get acquainted!

I’ve Been Living At Paw’s Place for

Five Years! My name is Kohl and I’m a very handsome 6-year-old Pointer/

Lab mix who is sweet and loving as can be.

I just don’t understand why I haven’t yet been

adopted? I watch while other dogs come and go and

wonder when it will be my turn. I love being with humans and would be an

excellent companion. I’m house-trained,

neutered, up to date on shots and on heartworm prevention. I love going for walks and am a gentle boy at 60 pounds. Please visit me soon! To get directions, or

more information, call Paw’s Place at 910-845-7297.

I am sponsored by Hank and Grace Harrington. Thank you!

Are you looking for a sweet, playful companion? Well, it's your lucky day because that describes me perfectly. I'm a

1-year-old, small, light gray tabby named Gracie. I've been spayed, I'm up to date on my shots and I tested

negative for FIV and Feline Leukemia. Sometimes I'm a little shy when I first meet people, but it doesn't take me

long to get used to them. I like men and women and I was fine with the other cats and dogs in my first foster home. Please call 910-271-3101 and we'll get together and you

can see for yourself what a sweetheart I am.

I am sponsored by Pet Friends of Duplin County. Thank you!

OPERATION TOPCAT

My name is Layla and I wandered into a nice man's yard along with my baby. He fed us and cared for us and

realized I was friendly so he asked Topcat to take us and get us ready for a forever home. My little girl has found a home so now it is my turn. I have been spayed, tested

negative for Feline Leukemia and have been vaccinated. When I went to the vet to get all that done they discovered that I had a hematoma on my ear that required surgery. As

you can see one of my ears doesn't stand up now but I think it just adds character. Now I'm not just a plain Tabby

girl. It sets me apart and it's no problem. I do not need continuous care for it. I'm sweet and will need just a little bit of time to get use to my surroundings. You can pet me and love on me and I will return love to you. To find out

more about me or to find out how to take me home, please email [email protected] or call 910-200-0612. I so de-

serve a loving, safe, forever home. To see other kitties up for adoption and looking for love, please visit us online at

PENDER ENDANGERED ANIMAL RESCUE

Hello, my name is Valentine, and I was

featured several months ago. I’m now ready for

a HOME! I’m a very loving Staffordshire who is in great health. You might remember from

my last appearance that I had severe damage to my front paw after an

attack, but the vet has repaired it and I am doing great! I will have a limp, however. I really do love kisses and hugs and walks, and if you met me you'd see how loving I am. I’m hoping I’ll soon find a wonderful home and family. If

you’re interested in me, please contact the rescue at [email protected] or call 910-675-0867.

Olivia is my name and I have an unusual heritage. Mom was a

purebred English Bulldog and Pop was a German Shepherd. I show the best of both breeds: sweet-

ness plus good looks, loyalty and loads of energy. I simply ooze

health and vitality. I love kids and get along great with other dogs but not so well with chickens.

(Yes, it was this slight fault which landed me in the shelter.) I am under 1-year-old, spayed and up to date on my vacci-nations. If you think like I do - we could have so much fun together! Please call Denise at 910-862-1728 to see about

meeting me. Please visit www.AShelterFriend.org or www.facebook.com/ashelterfriend for more information.

A SHELTER FRIEND OF SE NORTH CAROLINA

COLUMBUS HUMANE SOCIETY

My name is Zoe and I had to leave my

home because my mommy had to

move and couldn't take me with her. Now I'm in a won-derful foster home and I have a lot of foster brothers and sisters to play with. There are also cats here and I get along with almost every-one. I love to run

and play ball outside in my fenced yard. I'm very energetic so the fenced yard is a must! I’m up to

date on shots, spayed, heartworm negative, house-trained, good with kids and very well mannered. I just graduated from the Petsmart beginner training program on July 2.

Within one year my new family can take me back for a re-peat of the class for FREE! That would be a great way for us to bond together as a family! To adopt me, please con-tact Pat by calling 910-640-1505 or you can send an email to [email protected]. She will tell you all about me

and how we can arrange a meeting!

My name is Dixie and I'm ready for my forever home. I was rescued just before

my time ran out and I have been through successful

treatment for heartworms. I've been spayed and am up to date on all my shots. I'm a very sweet girl, although I might be a little shy at first. I'm around 2-years-old and

everyone thinks I'm a Labra-dor Retriever and Bulldog mix. I get along well with other dogs but I get a little excited around cats. I would

love to have a family of my own! Could you help me with that? Please call 910-271-3101 to meet me.

PHOENIX LANDING FOUNDATION

Hello! My name

is Moreya and I am a Congo African grey. I am a very

friendly and well adjusted bird - or

so I have been told! I love to talk and whistle. My favorite treat is an almond in the shell and I will work very hard to get them out of my foraging toys! I am looking for a long term home with someone who appreciates just how very intelligent and sen-sitive African greys are. Won't you consider allowing me to join your family? To adopt me, or to foster or adopt another of the many parrots who are awaiting homes, please con-tact Phoenix Landing at www.phoenixlanding.org (click on the link for adoption/foster), call 866-749-5634 or send an email to [email protected]. Please also check

our website for current information on free classes in Wilmington, Jacksonville and Cary.

ONSLOW PARTNERS FOR ANIMAL WELFARE

My name is Lucy and I am 1-year-old, 35 pounds and one "Lucky Dog". I am lucky in that

my foster mom rescued me from being tied up on a two foot lead in the blazing sun with no

food or water. I wondered what I had done to deserve this terri-

ble fate! I am so very loving and obedient and you will be so

surprised how very quickly I learn. Katie, my best friend and trainer, pays me a visit

everyday for walks and kisses. She does this because my fos-

ter mom had surgery on her foot and is still using a wheel-chair and crutches to get around. She has such a big won-derful heart to have helped me, but she really needs help with finding my forever home. I sure hope you will be the one to help! If you give me a chance, Katie will still come

and help with walks and more love if needed, for no charge! I am up to date on shots and will be spayed prior to adop-tion. Just one look into my big, beautiful brown eyes and you will see what a wonderful girl I am. Please call Shan-

non at 910-382-5004. I'll be waiting for you! You may also visit www.oc-paw.com for more information and to see other

animals looking for love.

PAWSITIVE PARTNERS PRISON PROGRAM

Hey there, I’m Utah! This may be a funny picture of me but I want you to know how much I love belly rubs and children. This was taken at one of our ‘Meet and Greets’ where the

Girl Scouts were helping out. They just loved me! I am a 2-year-old male Foxhound mix and have graduated from the Monty’s Home Pawsitive Partners Prison Program where I learned all my basic obedience commands. I am very laid-back and am great with other dogs, cats and, as you can

see, kids. You can find out more about me by calling 910-297-1338 or email [email protected]. But what the heck...a picture is worth a thousand words, right? Just go

ahead and fill out an application at www.montyshome.org.

FUREVER FRIENDS

I’m a social and super friendly boy who has never met a

stranger. My name is Rocky and I had a bit of a rocky start in life. I’m 8-months-old and had a home of my very own. My owners surrendered me because I caught a stomach bug and they couldn’t afford

to treat it. I really felt bad but the vet took wonderful care of me and now I’m all better. I

know how to sit and stay for a treat, I’m leash-trained, I’m

house-trained, I am good with kids and other dogs and I’m

crate-trained. They say I’m a mixed breed and that it looks like I might have some Husky in me along with some Shep-

herd and maybe a dash or two of something with short legs. I’m a calm yet playful guy who is neutered, vaccinated, on heartworm prevention and

weighs just 39 pounds. I would like for my new home to have a fenced yard that I can go out and run around in.

For more info, call Furever Friends Animal Rescue at 910-383-2100 (Monday through Saturday between 8am-6pm).

Hi there! My name is Susie

and I’m an adorable Yel-low Lab mix puppy, ap-proximately

6-months-old. They tell me

I’m a real sweetie. I’m

very laid-back and quiet once they let me out

of my kennel. I just want to be among my human friends! I get along well with other dogs and have shown no inter-est in cats. I love to play with toys, love to go for walks, and I love to be cuddled by everyone! I’m a puppy so I’ll need some basic training, but I’m a fast learner and have already learned how to sit and come on command. I am

eager to please and I just want to have a family of my own! If you’d like to adopt me, or meet me, please call my foster parents at 910-285-6212. You can also call Officer

Clewis with Pender County Animal Control at 910-279-3196. Can’t wait to go home with you!

I am sponsored by Kathy Lanio. Thank you!

I’m such a darling boy! When will it be my turn to

be loved? My name is Cole and I’m a very affec-

tionate fellow who can’t get enough cuddles and kisses. I turned 1-year-old in April, and I was

hoping to celebrate with my new family. Please adopt me so that I can spend my next birthday with you! I am already

neutered, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. I play

beautifully with the other cats at the shelter and

enjoy meeting every new person who walks in the door. We’re in a cage-less environment so you can pick me up

or watch me interact with the others. I’ll show you why I’m the one you should be bringing home today! Please call

Pender County Humane Society at 910-259-7022 and let’s get started on our brand new life.

I am sponsored by Milo, a Pender County Humane Society shelter dog who found his forever home.

Thank you!

Red Tri Australian Shep-herd. I was returned to rescue after living with my first adopted Dad through no fault of my own. My foster mom

always tells me I’m just a wonderful girl. She takes me on long walks in the morning,

and I have plenty of friends in my foster home. I like the other dogs and enjoy playing in the backyard with them. I’m house-trained and don’t mind staying in a crate, but I don’t really need to. I sleep on my dog bed at night. I’m spayed, up to date on vaccinations, and have been on

heartworm prevention and flea medication. Please visit the Australian Shepherd Rescue and Placement Helpline web-site at www.aussierescue.org to find the adoption form to

Junction across from Harris Teeter)

Have you always yearned to adopt a pure white cat, one who is friendly, affectionate and loving? Well, I’ve got great news for you - my

name is Baby Girl and I’m the feline you’ve been look-ing for! My life is kind of sad

right now, so I sure could use a new family to cheer me up. You see, after four years of living at one home, my family had to take in a

new renter due to the econ-omy and the renter turned

out to be allergic to cats. It’s very sad that I was brought to Cat Adoption Team, but I’m hoping my new loving family is out there and that they will take care of me forever and ever! I’m a 4-year-old beauty who is already spayed, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. I get along great with dogs and, most of all, people. Would you be the one to give me a second chance at a great life?

Please call Cat Adoption Team at 910-792-9014. We’re also at Petsmart 7 days a week. See you soon!

I am sponsored by Adair H. Douglass, II in honor of

Chanel and Cheerio.

Here I am at a Paw’s Place adoption fair, waiting for my new family to find me. I

behave so beautifully in public and would be a great compan-ion for anyone! My

name is Skittles and I’m a 35 pound

Hound girl who just turned 1-year-old at the end of March. I wish I could have

celebrated my birth-day in my new home!

Still, I have high hopes that I’ll soon find the family of my dreams. I am a house-trained darling who lost my former home because a new baby was coming and there was no time for me. I’m great with cats and other dogs, but would probably be happiest as the only dog since I can be pro-tective of my food. If you’d like to see what a wonderful, loving boy I am, please call Paw’s Place at 910-845-7297

and let’s arrange a day to meet!

I am sponsored by Top Toad in the Cotton Exchange in Downtown Wilmington, NC. Thank you!
