Tea for Two and Two for…

Adoption! That’s right, my brother Dobie and I

are searching for loving families.

My name is Tommy and I’m the kitten

on the left with the blue bow.

We are 9-week-old orange Tabby boys and we are

simply adorable! When we’re not planning tea parties, we’re playing, skipping, napping and

cuddling with humans. We just love balls with bells and we’re so cute when we carry our toys

across the room in our mouth! We are both very healthy, very friendly and we handled our

cover model duties like pros. It was fun to sit at the tea party table and get lots of attention. No one even cared when we knocked our teacups

over. So, would you like to meet us? We can be adopted separately or together. Just

give Pender Humane Society a call at 910-259-7022 and they’ll be glad to tell you even more about us. We’d also like to thank Dick Parrott for joining us at our tea party and taking our precious photo. With any luck, the

next thing brewing will be our adoptions!

Hello! My name is Buck

and I am a chubby-

cheeked cat with the most kissable face

and the sweetest

heart! I’m just 1-year-old

and already neutered and

current on vaccinations. I enjoy cud-dles with my human com-panions and relaxing naps after a long day. Are you my new napping partner? Come over and let’s find out! If you would like to know more about me or inquire about the adoption process, please call Adopt-An-ANGEL at 910-392-0557 or visit www.adoptanangel.net

for more details.

I am sponsored by Perry Davis. Thank you!

My name is Zeus and I’m a very handsome and

sweet boy who is around 9-years-old. However, you would swear I look like a 2-year-old pup and act like one, too. I was rescued by a good Samaritan

when my time had run out at Animal

Control. I lived in a foster home for al-most a month with

other dogs and cats and I behaved wonderfully. I’m currently being boarded at an animal hospital in town where I’m receiving heartworm treatment. You don't have to worry about paying for my treatment. Roxy Shines On, a fundrais-

ing program at Aunt Kerry’s Pet Stop, will be covering the cost of my heartworm treatment. I’m current on vaccinations and I’ve also been neutered. I’m always smiling, I’m happy to sit for a cookie and I love being loved. I would make any-body a wonderful companion. If you're interested in meeting

me, please call 910-792-1311.

I am sponsored by Pine Valley Animal Hospital.

URGENT, URGENT! My Time Is

Running Out! I’m a happy, good-hearted boy named

Cody (A016875) and I’m waiting for a lov-ing home. Just look at this sweet smile! It’s a mystery how a handsome Lab mix

boy like me ended up as a stray. I love all the folks I meet and I’ve shown no ag-gression to other animals. I had a

good health check by the veterinarian and

am just 1½-years-old! That’s a perfect age for me to go home with you and spend many, many years making happy memo-ries! Won’t you please come to the shelter and get to know me? I hope you’ll hurry - dogs are arriving every day and

there’s just not enough room for us all. My adoption fee in-cludes Distemper/Parvo vaccine, Kennel Cough vaccine, Ra-bies Vaccine, deworming, and 30 day flea/tick treatment. If

you can’t come during the week, the shelter is open on Satur-days from Noon to 4pm and on Sundays from 1pm to 4pm.

For more information, please call Pender County Animal Shel-ter at 910-259-1484 or email [email protected].

I am sponsored by the Sinclair family. Thank you!

I, Sherlock, am on the hunt for a

home. I am a wonderful, black,

10-month-old male kitty. I’ve been adopted twice.

One time the other cats whooped my butt because I’m a lover not a fighter. The second time I was too playful for my elderly adopter.

But, I won’t give up. I know I’m the perfect cat for some-one. For more info on how to adopt me, please call Cat Tails at 910-253-1375.

SOUTHERN REPTILE SAVIORS RESCUE

My name is Ghost and I’m probably

around a year old. I was in a home for

about 4-months and I was so scared. They fed me adult iguana

pellets and didn’t give me any lights. Now, I have a nice big cage and these

great warm lights. I’m still really scared of people but I’ll get better. Chances are good that I’m a boy but I’m still

too young to know for sure. I’d really love to find a forever home where I can settle down and bond with a loving fam-

ily. To adopt me, call Nicole at 910-470-6299. You can view available iguanas at www.thepamperediguana.com

or check out our rescue on Facebook.

ONSLOW COUNTY PARTNERS FOR ANIMAL WELFARE

My name is Lucy and I’m a beautiful Redbone Hound, but

for the past 3-years I was penned in a 6x6 outside cage. When my foster mom saw the condition that I was living in,

she started to cry - living in my own waste, toenails so long

they were curled into my foot paws and legs. But then she looked into my eyes and saw such love and hope - please don’t leave me, I begged. At

the vet, they tried to remove my collar but it was embedded in my neck with which I suffered open wounds and a bad

infection. What a beauty I am now! Fully vetted and ready for my forever home! Call my foster mom at 910-324-1650

or call OCPAW at 484-883-3552.

ALL 4 CATS

Hi everyone! I'm Stella, the sweetest little kitten on the

block - at least that what every-one tells me! I love to cuddle and play with wand toys and

laser pointers, but what I really want is a home to call my own. Could that be with you? I may

have limited sight but that doesn't stop me because I’m a brave girl. My right eye has a

cataract, but I see light and shadows really well. Call 919-710-3872 to set a time to meet with me in my foster home or

visit www.facebook.com/all4catsrescue.

OPERATION TOPCAT

My name is Bryleigh and I’m a sweet, petite girl who is 2-years-old

and ready for a furr-ever home. I am a quiet girl who wel-comes gentle pet-

ting and attention. I especially like belly rubs! I was a stray who needed a den-

tal because my teeth were missing and broken. I’m all healed from that and doing great now. I can eat both wet and dry food without a problem. I’m just waiting for the RIGHT person(s) to take me home. Could that be you? Please call 910-200-0612 or email [email protected].

PENDER ENDANGERED ANIMAL RESCUE

Hello, my name is Sophie! I’m a female

Boxer mix who needs a forever family. I’ve

been waiting at the res-cue for too long! I am healthy and full of fun and energy. I love to

run and get lots of atten-tion. I am spayed and up to date on all my

shots. I tend to pick and choose my playmates (dogs), but if handled

correctly all will be fine. If you’re interested in a meeting, please contact PEAR at

[email protected] or call 910-675-0867.

FUREVER FRIENDS ANIMAL RESCUE

Hello! I’m Blue, an adorable 6-month-old male

Pit Bull Terrier. Due to an unfortu-nate accident, my rear leg was bro-ken. I had sur-

gery to repair the injury and I’m

improving nicely - in fact, I’m ex-

pected to have a full recovery. I

am patient, loving and gentle. I’ve

been neutered, I’m current on shots and I have a micro-chip. For more information about me and how you can

adopt, please call 910-383-2100 or 910-617-3760.

A SHELTER FRIEND

Do you like hiking, going for walks on the beach and having an all-around good time? Yeah, me too! My name is Bo and I am a puppy-like 1-year-old

American Bulldog who will steal your heart with my huge grin. I am a happy boy who loves everyone, including other dogs. I

have been neutered, mi-crochipped, vaccinated and I’m on heartworm preventa-tive. Edna can tell you more about me and how we can

meet. Call her right now at 910-866-4289. Remember, no one will ever love you like a dog who has been aban-doned. Visit us online at www.AShelterFriend.org and

www.facebook.com/ashelterfriend.

PAWSITIVE PARTNERS PRISON PROGRAM

My name is Tulip and I am a sweet little 10-week-old Shep-herd/Hound mix puppy. I have 4 sisters - Petunia, Lily, Poppy, and Daisy - and we are all cur-rently living at Pender Correc-tional Facility where we will be

crate-trained, taught basic com-mands, and we will perfect the art of leash-walking. We are

spayed and have all our shots. We are, in fact, the perfect pup-pies, and we are all looking for

perfect forever homes. To adopt one of us, you can email [email protected], visit their website at www.montyshome.org and fill out an

online application, or call 910-259-7911.

RESCUECONNECT

My name is Simon and I am an energetic Corgi and Shepherd mix who is look-ing for a forever home! I

need a family who can pro-vide me regular exercise and direction on what is expected of me. I have completed doggie 'boot

camp' to receive some ad-ditional training and struc-

ture to my routine. My bags are packed and I’m ready to go to my new home! I'll be ready to provide you hours of entertainment and compan-ionship. Contact RescueConnect by calling 910-302-7290

or visiting www.rescueconnectnc.com.

COASTAL ANIMAL RESCUE EFFORT (C.A.R.E.)

Argh! Keep your paws away from my bootie!

But you can pet me all you want. My name is

Captain Jack and I am a spry young pirate looking

for a land lover to share their home with me. I

enjoy walking the plank, swabbing the deck and snuggling. I don’t have scurvy, am vaccinated,

healthy and ready to set sail for your house. Call 910-256-2624 for adop-

tion details and to get your treasure, ME!

CATLANDIA

My name is Prana. I’m a 12-week-old kitty who was born outside and somehow became separated from my

mama. I was lost for a while and then I got res-

cued! I am in a small res-cue waiting for my new

family to come and get me. I am a playful boy who

loves other kitties. I have a loud purr and I love to cud-

dle and snuggle with my kitty friends and my people friends. I had a rough start in life but I am a happy and

healthy kitten who needs a wonderful, loving, forever home as soon as possible. Call or text 910-515-9697 or send an email to [email protected] and let’s meet! I

just know you will love me and I will love you, too.

COASTAL CANINE RESCUE

My name is CeeLo and I’m a Lab mix who was one of those dogs

who was on the urgent list at Ani-mal Control. I am 4 to 5-years-old and I have the energy and playful-

ness of a very young dog. I’m 35 to 40 pounds, vaccinated, neutered

and on monthly heartworm and flea prevention. I’m house-trained,

crate-trained and leash-trained. I already know basic commands like sit, down, shake. I love toys and would do well in a home with chil-dren because I love to play! Over-

all, I’m a great dog who will be a great companion to any family. If you are interested in meeting me, please email [email protected] or call 910-470-5554.

Page 10: PawPrints Magazine July 2015

Zzzzzz...my name is Jimmy and I am kind of shy as my past life was not

great at all. I came to rescue last year and was scared to even come near a

human. I was afraid they would hit or kick

me! But my foster mommy was awe-

some and she taught me that not

all humans are bad. When my foster

mom felt I had come out of my shell enough to enjoy life, I moved to Wilmington to look for my forever home! It took me a week in my new foster home to even come out of my crate, but now I am FREE! I love running in the house with

my duck toy in my mouth, I love peanut butter kongs, I enjoy chasing my foster sibling Jack Russells around and I like warm fluffy beds. I am still skittish around loud noises,

voices, or sudden movements but I would never think of bit-ing. I am around 5 to 6-years-old, house-trained perfectly,

never mess in my crate, have all my vaccines, and am neu-tered. I am constantly on the move so would be good with an active family. I am not sure about men yet, but I LOVE

the ladies! Are you ready for me? To adopt me, call Caroli-nas Russell Rescue at 910-821-3504 and leave a message or you can send an email to [email protected].

I am sponsored in memory of Oscar and Madison Pour,

two very special, life changing Jack Russell Terriers.

Ever dream of having a kitty cat

who loves to snuggle up and be loved? Well, look no further

because I'm the cat for you! My name is Saint and I certainly live up to my name! I was

found in a church and I was cold, alone and starv-ing. I knew the church would be the place to go

and find sanctu-ary. I am so

sweet! I love to play, cuddle and

purr like an engine. I just love to be picked up and loved on. I am purrfect in every way, except I tend to get the

sniffles and can be a little loud when purring or breathing. When I get the sniffles, I sneeze a little more than your average kitty, but the doctors here at College Road Ani-mal Hospital say I am perfectly healthy! Just keep some tissues around the house for me. I have already been

neutered and vaccinated and I tested negative fore Feline Leukemia and FIV. I would make a great addition to your home and I will love you forever! To adopt me, call 910-395-6555 or visit www.collegeroadanimalhospital.com to

fill out an application.

Adopt-An-ANGEL

►My name is Amos and I am homeless. I am a dream. I do well with other dogs

and older kids. I walk well on a leash and am very obedi-ent. I am a strong dog so I will need a firm leader. Please

come see me at Petco on Saturdays or call and let Adopt-

An-ANGEL know you are interested

so they can put you in touch with my foster mom.

►My name is Lou and I am a very sweet, loveable girl. My “pull fee” was sponsored by

Stadium Batting Cages of Wil-mington. Thank you for saving

my life! Now, I am safe with Adopt-An-ANGEL. I am a mid-

sized Boxer/Pit mix. I am a dominant girl so I would do best as an only pet, but I love people

and adore kids even more. I am completely house-trained, have been treated for heart-

worms and walk pretty well on a leash. Please call my foster mom at 910-523-1254 for more

details. If you only want one pet, you should choose me!

◄My name is Tucker. I am a TOTAL sweetheart and I am so gentle. I am kind of scared and overwhelmed at being home-

less. I tested positive for heart-worms and my adopter brought me back to the shelter where

Adopt-An-ANGEL rescued me. I am a mid-sized dog who

weighs about 50 to 60 pounds. I will need someone to give me

time to learn to trust them. I am afraid of men and loud noises,

but once I get to know you and feel comfortable, I am AMAZING! I seem to do well with other animals and I am

house-trained. To learn more about me, call 910-620-3783.

►Hello! My name is Hawkeye and I am sponsored by Cape Fear Smiles, which

means they paid the "pull" fee for me to get into rescue and

essentially saved my life. I am the most amazing dog. I am even-tempered and do great with other animals. I am mid-

sized at just under 40 pounds. I am friendly and well-mannered. I respond to leash correction so I walk

pretty well on a leash. You will LOVE me so give me a chance. Did you know that black dogs are least likely to get adopted? Can you help me change that statistic? I have the

whitest teeth and prettiest smile. No wonder Cape Fear Smiles wanted to save me!

◄My name is Peter and I

have the most handsome

smile. I abso-lutely love

people, I am outgoing and I have a bubbly personality. I am neutered, vaccinated and heart-

worm nega-tive. I was at a local shelter that was overcrowded. I was a

stray and you can tell I didn’t come from the best back-ground, but I am willing to learn and I am a quick study. So, it shouldn’t take me very long at all to learn how to become

your pampered pet. Come see me at Petco every weekend.

◄“Got a girl, her name's Francine, finest thing you ever seen.” I got my name from the ZZ Top song be-

cause I am one of the finest Beagles ever. I was a stray

at a local shelter and did not have much of a chance of getting out alive due to

my age. Adopt-An-ANGEL took me in and started me on the road to adoption. I am heartworm negative so someone owned me at one time. My teeth had been very neglected. The vet

had to pull 17 teeth! I was also spayed and had a small mass on my right side re-

moved. I feel so much better! I can now eat well and have been chowing down my food in true Beagle style. I get

along with everyone, kids, dogs and especially cats. I even love kittens. I would make a wonderful addition to any

home. I’m also perfect for an apartment because unlike many Beagles, I rarely bark or make any noise.

Page 12: PawPrints Magazine July 2015

URGENT! My Time Is Running Out!

I’m a friendly, goofy, loveable boy named Mac

(A015439) and I need you! I’m a Boxer/Lab mix who

walks great on a leash and I listen well to commands. I’m also a young fellow at

3-years-old. I have such a sweet disposition and I’m not

at all dog-aggressive. In fact, if dogs are getting

rowdy around me I don’t engage in it at all and just

ignore them. I’ve been adopted a few times, and

have been brought back to the shelter through no fault of my own. (I can’t stress that enough!) The reasons they brought

me back were family illnesses, financial troubles and life changes. I’m hoping my next home will be the perfect fit I’ve

been searching for! Please, won’t you give me another chance at a happy life? Dogs arrive every day at this shel-

ter and there’s just not enough room for us all. Please hurry! My adoption fee includes vaccinations, deworming,

and 30 day flea/tick treatment. If you can’t come during the week, the shelter is open on Saturdays from Noon to 4pm

and on Sundays from 1pm to 4pm. For more info, call Pender County Animal Shelter at 910-259-1484 or email

[email protected].

◄Hi there! My name is Sable (A079292) and I am obviously the next Colgate star. With a smile like this, how could you possi-bly resist taking me home? I am only 10-months-old and my shelter friends think that I am a Lab-rador Retriever and German Shepherd mix. Please say you’ll come see me!

◄Well, hello! I’m Sasha (A078921), a 1-year-old, spayed Labrador Retriever and Bor-der Collie mix. I hate to brag but I am advancing very quickly in the man-ners department and I will be the star of the show before you know it. Come on out and let me show you my new moves! Perhaps you’ll want to take me home! How can you resist these beautiful eyes?

◄There are over ten kittens waiting for lov-ing homes at the shel-ter! And I know this may be hard to believe, but they are all just as sweet and precious as me. My name is Marco (A079554) and I’m an 8-week-old boy who loves to play, hop, bounce, nap, cuddle and kiss! Please hurry over to the shelter to meet me and my pals!

◄Hello there! My name is Cameron

(A078774) and although we have not met yet I have

been in the cat adoption room for a few days. I am a shy girl but becom-ing more social as each day passes. If there is room in

your heart and home for a special young lady like me then come on down to the shelter and let’s get to know each other!

►Hi guys! My name is Casey (A078260)

but my shelter friends believe I

missed my casting call to be Salem on the show ‘Sabrina

the Teenage Witch’. Oh well, who needs

stardom when I could have you! I’m

a 2-year-old neu-tered boy with a very sweet personality. I

hope you’ll hurry over to meet me - I’m a fabulous find!

►Come meet me and discover why Black

Labs (or mixes) are the USA’s most favorite

family dog! Hello, I’m Higgins (A078618),

and I’m a very sweet boy, just 1½-years-old.

I’m already neutered, so you won’t have to

worry about scheduling that for me. I would be

so happy and excited to see you at my ken-

nel door. We can walk around the play yard together, toss a ball

and fall in love!

Hi, let me introduce myself. My name is

Easter because my 5 babies were born on

Easter Sunday. Since then, I have been spayed and

completely vetted. I have weaned my puppies and feel better than ever! They think I may have some Cattle

Dog in me because I am so smart. You

will never find a more loveable girl than me and as you can see, I really like to cuddle.

I like other dogs and I love to play. I was found abandoned in a rain storm and a

wonderful man brought me to R.A.C.E. Please, can I live with you?! If you would like to know more about me or would like

to find out how we can become best friends, please call 910-579-0407 or visit www.raceshelter.org.

food, treats, bowl and more! Call 910-259-8323 and leave a message or email [email protected]. I am

CAT: Cat Adoption Team

VOLUNTEERS and FOSTER HOMES NEEDED!!!

Call 910-792-9014 for more information.

◄Hi there, I'm Starlight!

I'm currently Moonbeam's roommate/best friend. (She’s pic-

tured at bot-tom.) I'm a solid black male kitten, just a year

old. Of the two, I'm the more outgoing one. It didn't take me long to start venturing around the adoption center. I

like cuddling and get along with both cats and dogs. Would you please consider adopting me along with Moonbeam?

►Hi, I'm Ruby! I'm

a 1-year-old brown Tabby

girl. I'm playful, but I’m not too

happy about being kept

inside a cage sur-

rounded by other cats. I do not like other cats and cannot be in a home with other cats or small chil-

dren. Please, if you have no cats of your own, consider opening up your home to me so I can finally feel more at peace and be the queen of the castle. If you give me a

chance, I will be your sweet and awesome girl!

◄Hey, I'm Moonbeam! I'm a 6-month-old black female kitten with a cute little patch of white hair on my chest. Right now, I'm roommates with another black kitten, Starlight (also pictured on

this page). Though we are not related, we are best friends and would be a

great pair to adopt together. I am shy at first, but I warm up quickly. I can also be pretty playful. I don't like

being held much, but I would enjoy cuddling with you. I'm ok with cats and dogs. Overall, I'd say my

buddy and I are a great catch, so come meet us soon!

◄Hi, I'm Gunner! I'm a

Chihuahua/Pomeranian male and am approximately 1-year-old. I

am very sweet and gentle. I get along well

with other dogs and warm up quickly to people. I like to give lots of

kisses. Take me home and you'll find out just how love-able I am! Call Sandra at 910-284-1990 if you'd like to

open up your home to a sweet dog like me!

◄Hey, I'm Larry! I'm a 1-year-old male Miniature Pinscher. I was

found in a school-yard, then I was

sent to Columbus County Animal

Control, and now I'm with the C.A.T. rescue group ea-gerly waiting for

my new home. I'm sweet and gentle and get along well with everyone, including other dogs and children. I have also been neutered and am crate-trained. Please give Chris a call at 910-471-2566 if you'd like to adopt me!

◄Hey there, I'm AJ. I'm a 1-year-old male Beagle/Basset Hound mix. I'm a unique boy with one blue eye and

one brown eye. I'm lov-ing, playful, and I open up quickly. I am great with other dogs, cats,

and children. I basically get along with every-body! Adopt me, and you won't be let down! For more information

about adopting me, contact Sandra at 910-284-1990.

Save lives…please spay or neuter your pets!

Mickie Mouse here, and I am

ready to go home with you! I am look-ing for a lap to lay in

and a hand to pet me. I love people and cats and am

sure to be a great fit in your family, if you give me the chance. I’m a girl who was once pleasantly plump, but my

weight is now man-aged with a yummy food. Besides, it is

“all about that bass”, right? As you can

see, I am gorgeous and ready to accept my role as resident

beauty queen in your home. Get my throne ready and call C.A.R.E. at

910-256-2624 to adopt me, NOW!

I am sponsored by Atlantic Animal Hospital who supports Coastal Animal Rescue Effort (C.A.R.E.).

Hello, Rio is my name! I’m a 7-month-old, male Chihua-hua pup who was dropped off at Paw’s Place. I’m fully vetted,

neutered and microchipped. Although my

foster home is great, I long to

be with a forever fam-

ily. When I’m not playing

with the other dogs and children of the house, I truly enjoy sitting in a lap and passing out kisses. I know how to walk on a leash and am working on crate-training. I even get along with cats – what more could you ask of a guy?!? If you would like to

meet me, please email [email protected] or call 910-845-7297 to set up an appointment. Hope to be

giving you kisses soon!

I am sponsored in loving memory of Grace Harrington.

Cat Tails

◄Elvis has left the building! But he really hasn’t. I’m sitting here shaking, rattling and rolling, sing-ing my heart out! I am a younger Elvis (before the fat days) and a cute self-reliant

Tabby (once again before my over indulgent stage). I love

attention, but like Elvis, only when I want it. So at

3-years-old, we have quite a bit of time to spend together.

◄Jayda means “precious stone” and well, I am

precious. Maybe not a

stone but worth a “precious

stone fortune!” I am a small female Tortie

who is approximately 10-months-old.

As a kitten, I was living be-hind Bojangles

until this nice lady whisked me away. I am very quiet and like to sit around and if you pick me up, I’ll stay in the same position. So maybe I am kinda like a stone. Any way you

look at it I am very sweet.

►I am a Caramel nou-gat, a little brown, or-ange, and black, or if

you prefer, a Tortie. And like a good cara-mel nougat, I am very

sweet. I am only 7-months-old, so just

about the age to get my driver’s license. No,

only kidding, cats can’t drive. But I would be

willing to take a ride to your house. Come get a great piece of candy

and no calories.

▲Martini and Daiquiri! Don’t we sound good? Actually, we are just two of the many kittens Cat Tails has for adoption. Come meet us and all of our friends. You

might want to take one of us home with you!

►Much like any ninja, I am quite

agile. I am named after a ninja, Nikita, and like many war-riors, somewhat of

a loner. I get along with others and

play well, but I am used to being on my own, so I will

need some time to adjust. I am a

beautiful, sleek, gray kitty and just about a year old.

►No, I am not named after the liquor,

Moonshine, I am named after a shin-ing moon. I am quiet and docile, in fact often bullied

by other cats. Does that sound like some-one who may partake? I am 6-years-old and I’ve already been declawed. So when I’m picked on, I have no defense.

Please make like Calgon and take me away - from here and these obnoxious cats!

Page 18: PawPrints Magazine July 2015

Hi there! My name is Nitchi! I'm a very

unique girl,

hence my extraordi-

nary name.

The name Nitchi

originates from the Navaho

word meaning

"spirit", and what a special spirit I am! I was brought in to College Road Animal Hospital by a very sweet lady who wanted to keep me, but circumstances just would not allow it. So, here I am awaiting my chance at what every kitty desires, a loving furrever home. I'm rather

shy at first, but once I adapt to my surroundings and gain trust, I'll provide a lifetime of friendship, affection and

love. My favorite thing is my scratching post and I love to have my cheeks rubbed! I would love nothing more

than to meet you, and hopefully, be the purrfect addition to your family! I have been spayed and vaccinated and I tested negative for Feline Leukemia/FIV. If you or some-

one you know is interested in adopting a beautiful and gentle spirit like me, please call 910-395-6555 or visit

www.collegeroadanimalhospital.com to fill out an appli-cation. Hope to love you soon.

Could I be the perfect dog? There are some

who say I am! My name is Harvey and I’m a

3-year-old red and white Pit Bull Terrier. I am very calm, very sweet and a

devout lover of humans. I just adore receiving atten-tion and will ‘sit’ as soon

as I’m asked. I also know the command ‘down’. I’m house-trained and leash-trained and I don’t tug or pull while we’re walking.

If you tell me ‘No’, I’ll stop whatever I’m doing. I’m not at all destructive and

have never once tried to tear up the blanket in my kennel. I get along great with other dogs and ignore the ones who bark at me. I would probably be great with children as I’m so gen-tle and calm - you can put a dog biscuit in your mouth, lean over to me and offer it, and I’ll take it ever so gently with my own mouth. I suppose the only thing standing in the way of my perfection is that I’m a bit too inquisitive about cats, but that’s easily remedied with a non-feline home. I hope after

reading all these great qualities you’ll be hopping in the car to come meet me! Everyone at the shelter has fallen in love

with me and I think you will, too. Please call Pender Humane Society at 910-259-7022 for adoption information.

◄Looking for an adorable sidekick who will sleep in bed with you at night and play with you during the day? Well, look no further, because I am here to do all that and more! My name is Cookie and I’m a very friendly Jack Russell Terrier girl. I’m just 4-years-old and I weigh in at a perfectly sized 17 pounds. I hope you’ll consider adopting me because I’ll make your life positively rosy! I love to go for car rides so you and I can go everywhere together if you like. I’m house-trained so there’ll be no accidents with me, and I’m also a great friend to children. (I once lived with a 3-year-old). I’m friendly to cats as well and, although I didn’t live with another dog, I’ve been best buddies with Penny, pictured above, since I came to the shel-ter. I’d love to go for walks with you around the neighborhood. Oh yes, I have a box of supplies in the shed at the shelter so don’t forget to take that with you when you adopt me…see you soon!

►Hello! My name is Penny and I’d love to have the

chance to meet you. I’m a 3-year-old, 76

pound Rottie mix girl who is already

spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm

prevention. I like to keep my kennel

clean, I do not dig, and I play nicely

inside a fenced-in yard. One thing my friends have noticed

about me is that I sure do love stuffed

squeaky toys! I don’t tear them up - no, no - I’m very careful with them and treat them gently. I like other dogs and have been enjoying my time in the play yard with Cookie, pictured below. If you have a dog who needs a friend, bring him or her over to meet me! I would do well in a home with adults-only or teenagers (I’m a little

big for small kids) and I have a special fondness for women. Please come meet me - I’m a great girl!

►I’m a sweet little guy and I know how

to steal hearts! Come on over to the shelter and I’ll show you. In the meantime, I’ll tell you all about my-self: My name is Lucas and I’m a 4-year-old Basset

Hound mix boy who is house-trained,

leash-trained, neu-tered and vacci-

nated. I can sit and shake hands on

command and I get along great with

other dogs. I once lived with cats and they were my friends, too! My family moved out west and couldn’t take me so this is your lucky day! Please hop in the car and

let’s get to know one another here. I could be your match!

Hi there! My name is Lucy! One of the wonderful ladies at College Road Animal Hospital found me and my sister run-ning the streets of downtown Wilmington back in April. She scooped us up before we got ourselves into too much trou-ble, and we are so grateful she did! As you may have al-

ready guessed, we got our names from the famous charac-ters Lucy Ricardo and Ethel Mertz on the "I Love Lucy"

show. Ethel was lucky enough to be adopted, so now it’s my turn. I’m quite a loving girl and would give anything to be your new best friend. I am great with other dogs and cats

and I absolutely love kids! I am current on vaccinations, I am heartworm free and I’ve already been spayed. If you are

interested in adopting me, please call 910-395-6555 or visit www.collegeroadanimalhospital.com to fill out an application.

◄Hey, my name is Oscar (A323290) and I would love to meet you. My former owner brought me here to the shelter because of something called a lease agreement that said I was not allowed to live there. I think that sucks but I won’t let it get me down. I’m a spunky, happy, and playful dude who is neu-tered and vaccinated. Adopt me today!

►I’m a handsome Boxer and Labrador Retriever mix named Jax (A324229). At just 8-months of age, I find myself at the shelter be-cause my former family worked and traveled too

much to be home with me. If you count back in

months, I was probably a Christmas present - so I say it’s Christmas in July

and I’m ready to find a real forever family. I am house-trained, crate-trained, neu-tered and vaccinated. I’ve lived as an inside dog and

shared my home with a 1-year-old human. I know how to sit, lay down and shake on command. I’m a fun-loving and playful guy who

will make a great forever friend!

►I was named after a god-dess in ancient Egyptian

religion who was worshiped as early as 2890 BC. Well

then why on earth am I homeless and sitting in a

shelter? My name is Bastet (A323650) and I’m a 1-year-old Tortie who is

already spayed and vacci-nated. I was surrendered

by my family because they were being evicted and

couldn’t keep me. Being homeless is quite upsetting

to me, so I’m begging you to please adopt me today.

►Marvelous, simply marvelous darling. My name is Azayah (A324130) and I’m the cat of your dreams. Not only do I

have a great personality, I have gorgeous markings in patches of orange and black. Today is the beginning of the rest of my

life with you. I just know we will be the best of friends. In case

you are wondering why I’m homeless - it was through no

fault of my own - my owner was evicted. I’m super friendly, I will rub up against your legs

and nuzzle into your hand for neck and head rubs and I enjoy

being held. I’m a social girl who is eager to get outta here. If you would like to adopt

an inside only kitty who is good with kids and dogs, please rescue me and give me a wonderful life.

►Check out this great doggie grin! I’m a hand-

some boy who is a 3-year-old Labrador Re-triever mix. I have been neutered and I’m current

on vaccinations, too. I was found straying on

Castle Hayne Road and I think my name should be Tyler (A323751). I

have a wonderfully soft coat and the cutest

freckles on my face. I have a terrific personal-ity and will make a won-

derful forever friend! Please think of me when

expanding your family.

◄My name is Sadie (A323641) and I’m a cute little thing who would love the chance to be your new family member. I was straying in Carolina Beach when someone scooped me up and brought me to the shelter. I’m a 2-year-old Brown Tabby girl who is sweet and loving. I love being near you and I love feeling loved. I love being held like a baby and I love getting head and neck rubs - but most importantly, I’d love it if you’d adopt me!

Miss Avis Davis, 1990-2005

Hi, I'm Lady, a sweet 3 to 4-year-old Border Collie and Lab mix. I was res-cued just before my time ran out and I've been in foster care for a while. None of the volunteers

can understand why I've been overlooked. I'm

very affectionate and love to meet new people. I

was cured of heartworms and am now on monthly

heartworm pills, I'm spayed and up to date on

my vaccinations. I enjoy other dogs, but I sometimes like to chase cats, so should probably be in a home

without them. I like to run and play and I love the wa-ter! Please call 910-271-3101 to meet me.

My name is Oliver and I'm a 1½-year-old Shepherd mix. I was rescued before I ran

out of time at a shelter and I'm more than

ready for a family of my own. I'm already neutered, up to date on vaccinations and

on monthly heartworm prevention. I'm a real

sweetheart, I love meeting new people and I get along great with other dogs and cats. Wouldn't you like to meet me?

Please call 910-271-3101 and we'll arrange it.

It’s me, Sherbert

(also known as Bert), and I’m all boxed

up and ready to go home with you! I’m a

9-month-old, neutered

male tri-pod kitty. Yep, I

came to C.A.R.E. when I was a stray. It appeared that I had been hit by a car. My rear leg was beyond repair so we had to have it amputated. That’s ok, though, I

get along just great without it! To adopt me, please call 910-256-2624. Hope to see you soon!

My name is Phat Joe and I am a senior Chi-wa-wa. I might have been a mobster in a

previous life, but now I am retired. I have a friend who calls me

Joey Pepperoni, too. If I were a person, I would talk with my

hands, but I'm not a person so I talk with my paws. I do ok with other

dogs, but I am protective of my people and things, so it could be easier for me to be an only pet. I am fin-

ishing up my heartworm treatment and my dental soon. I am all personality, that's fur sure - a big dog in

a little dog body. To learn more about me, please give Adopt-An-ANGEL a call at 910-392-0557.

Hello! My name is Pablo and I’m 11-years-old. I’m searching for a patient, caring person or family

who understands the spe-cial needs of a diabetic

kitty. I am well-managed on diet and insulin. I

would thrive in a single cat household and would defi-nitely give you lots of love and attention in exchange for your care. I also enjoy the view from above and, if given the opportunity, will hop on your shoulder for a

ride. Contact C.A.R.E at 910-256-2624 if you are interested in adopting me, please!

I'm Gray, a 15-year-old, declawed girl and this is my 10-year-old sister, Cheeky, pictured be-

low. We're pretty Tabby and white cats who were the much

loved pets of a couple who passed away

within one years time. Now we need to find a new home. We can be

adopted together or separately. We're af-fectionate, quiet girls who are both spayed

and up to date on vacci-nations and we love to be brushed. The vet

says that we're in great shape, so we have

many good years ahead of us. Would you let us share them with you? If you would like to adopt

one or both of us, please call Pet Friends

of Duplin County at 910-285-4155.

We are sponsored in appreciation of everyone who

has rescued a homeless animal.

We are two very charming brothers named

Mikey and Peanut! We get along

great, as you can see from

our photo, but we do not have

to be adopted together. However, you might just decide ‘two’ is a magic number when you see how we complement each

other - we’re so entertaining and so very sweet! We are young fellows who love playing with toys and cuddling with

humans, and we also get along with the other cats here. We are neutered, vaccinated, litterbox-trained and in great health.

We do have a food allergy, but simply feed us Duck and Green Pea cat food and the issue’s solved! Our former foster

mom wishes she could adopt us, but she can’t, so she is sponsoring the adoption fee for each of us. That should tell you how much love we inspired in her while we were staying at her place. So please, let’s meet! You’ll wonder how you

ever got along without us. For adoption information, call Pender Humane Society at 910-259-7022.

stole our hearts! Mommy and Daddy miss you every day!

Our mommy

has loved kitties for

thirty years but she is in trouble now. She has breast

cancer, has had a mastec-

tomy and is now facing chemo and radiation. She is struggling financially and cannot take on a job right now, so she

is having to move in with her mother. On top of all this, she has to find homes for me and my sister. I am Allie, a beautiful long-haired kitty with white paws and chest. I am 8-years-young and a little shy at first but,

once I get to know you, get ready for some loving! Aubrey is a "wanna be Calico" who did not quite

make it but she is soooo pretty! Curiosity is in her blood as is much loving. She loves giving sandpaper kisses and baths to me and to Mom! We were both adopted as kittens so we’ve always lived in a house

full of love. Please help Mom and us if you can. This is a heart wrenching decision that she never would have expected to go through. We are both spayed, current on vaccinations and front declawed. Please

call 910-233-3933 or email [email protected].

Page 27: PawPrints Magazine July 2015

My name is Einstein and I am as smart as my

namesake! I came in to rescue in 2014 when my

mommy of my entire life (I can't count all the years on my paws, but they tell me I am about 11 now) was no longer able to

afford to care for me. She was moving to a shelter

and knew I needed a bet-ter life! You see, I have canine diabetes. The

cool thing about rescue is they helped me get it all under control! I was once taking twice the amount of insulin but with a low sugar diet, I was able to kick that habit! Folks think it is hard to care for a diabetic dog, but I am so EASY! The rescue has gotten

my diet down to the BEST food for the lowest expense, so that my new family won't have to spend any more than if I

was a young pup (which I am inside). My insulin lasts months and is easy to find (and only $25 a bottle). Other-

wise, I am a normal dude who loves hoarding toys, chasing rodents and butterflies, and snuggling with my foster mom.

I have all my vaccines, I’m neutered and I tested heart-worm negative! Could you be my new family? To adopt me, call Carolinas Russell Rescue at 910-821-3504 and

leave a message or email to [email protected].

I am sponsored in celebration of Rocky Pour’s 6th Gotcha Day Anniversary with hopes that

you’ll adopt a senior dog, too.

You can't even imagine how difficult it is to lose the only home you’ve ever

known. That’s why, at

8-years-old, I’m scared,

confused and wondering

where my family has gone. Living in a military community, the shelter sees so many animals given up, and when my family had to move overseas, I wasn't able to go along.

They were distraught to have to give me up - they've known me since I was a tiny kitten. My name is Annabelle

(27876777) and I just know there has to be someone out there who can give me the love and home I deserve. I’m a pretty independent girl with a feisty spirit. Though I’m not

one for cuddles, I am very happy to receive a good scratch and will purr almost immediately when you come by to give

me some love. I would do best in a home that is quiet where I can have time to adjust without too much going on around me. I did grow up with a dog and a child, and as long as they can respect my desire for independence, I

would do just fine with either of them. Please come give me a chance! The shelter is located at 244 Georgetown Road

in Jacksonville. For more information or to adopt me, please call our adoption desk at 910-937-1164.

I am sponsored by Dan and Sue Tuman in honor of all

the cats who are waiting for homes at the shelter.

ners Prison Program, so I will be spending the next 8-weeks in

New Hanover Correc-tional being trained and cared for by my inmate trainers and

Monty’s Home volun-teers. My trainer

says I am happy-go-lucky, quick to learn, and a real lover boy.

By the time my 8 weeks are up, I will know all my basic

commands, walk well on a leash, and be crate-trained. I am also neutered and up to date on all my shots. All I need then

is a forever home to call my own! Let’s get together and explore the possibilities! For adoption info, email

[email protected], visit our website at www.montyshome.org where you can fill out an online

application, or call 910-259-7911.

Special thanks to Connie at Dog Speak for helping me find my forever home!

I’m smiling right at you, hoping

you’ll adopt me! If you are looking for a fun-loving and free spirited family compan-ion, look no fur-

ther. My name is Oliver and I’m a tri-color Sheltie mix who weighs

about 30 pounds. At 4-years of age, I’m a happy boy who loves being with people and going for walks. It would be so nice if my new home had a

fenced-in yard so that I can play

when I’m not in-side cuddling with you. I get along well with other dogs and am already neu-

tered and vaccinated. Please stop by and say hi. I just know you’ll fall in love! For driving directions or more infor-

mation, please call SOAR at 910-457-6340.

I am sponsored by SOAR in loving memory of all their wonderful, furry friends who made it safely to the

Rainbow Bridge.

Onslow County Animal Shelter Call 910-937-1164 or email [email protected] to adopt!

◄With my striking markings and loving nature, no one can

quite understand why I haven't been

scooped up and taken home. Though even at a young 3-months of age, it can be very hard to compete with the younger kittens in the shelter. My name

is Miss Angel (27709042) and I came in with my sister, who has since been adopted. I’m a wonderful little girl who just

wants to be loved. You may meet me at the Onslow County Shelter. My adoption fee includes core vaccinations, 1-year

Rabies, and spay surgery.

◄Seniors need love too! If you didn't know any differently, you would never

guess that I’m 9-years-old. My name is Chloe (A082098) and I’m a feisty Lab mix with some serious pep in my step. After

three months in a kennel, I am more than ready to find a family to share my golden years. I love to stretch my

paws with a good run about the yard and I’m so excited to go on leash and walk by someone’s side. While I am a great human companion, I do need to be the only dog in the home, however, this and a muzzle touched with gray

is nothing that should keep such a lovely lady like me from finding happiness!

►Handsome Hound looking for love! It's true that shelters here in the south are filled with home-less Hounds, and sadly, so many just pass us by without a thought.

The truth is, that us pups are some of the gentlest, most loving

dogs you could ever have the chance to know. My name is Henry (27927892) and I’m a

1-year-old Treeing Walker Coon-hound! I’m a young, sweet and playful pup with just the touch of

silly that everyone here has grown to love. It's impossible not

to smile when you are around me! I love to play fetch and I’m eager to please, gentle and

would be an all-around great addition to any family.

◄Well-behaved, af-fectionate "redhead"

seeking a forever home! I’m a beautiful

2-year-old Pit mix named Nala

(27772035). I’m as sweet as they come,

yet I’ve somehow been overlooked time and time again. I am so well-behaved and

ready to show a family what I’ve got - if only you would give me a chance. I am very loving despite having been on my own for so long. I love to lay at my human’s side and soak up love. If given

the chance, I would be such a fine companion.

►I’m a loveable Labrador Retriever mix named Zoe (27725328). I’m a fun and happy-go-lucky young girl

who is sure to win your heart! I’m 2-years-old and quite ready to find a place to call my own. I will do

best with an active family as I love to run and play, and am especially fond of a game of fetch. Some of my other interests include

belly rubs and butterfly chasing. My sweet

"smiling" face always makes the shelter workers

happy, so let me make you happy.

◄As you walk by my kennel, I may look a little too energetic for many. This is probably the rea-son I’m one of the shelter’s long-

est residents. The truth is I’m just so excited to possibly meet my new family that my spirited nature gets the best of me. My

name is Scarlett (A082659) and I’m a Lab and Hound mix. I am full of wiggles and excitement

but when brought out to the yard and given the chance, I really shine. I love to play, I’m quite fond of a tennis ball, and I’m

more than ready to find a home and an opportunity to share my

love. Having tested positive for heartworms, I need a very special family able to provide me with the care I need. Given a chance and a healthy heart, I will have many, many years

ahead of me as a wonderful, loving companion.

URGENT, URGENT! My Time Is Running Out! Puppy

Power to the rescue! Or perhaps it will be you

rescuing me? My name is Aspen

(A016628) and I’m a

really friendly and

loving puppy who

never meets a stranger.

See that big smile on my

face and the way I’m looking so happily at the cam-

era? That’s how I’ll be when I meet you! When visitors walk by my

kennel, I sit expectantly at the door, hoping they’re here to get me. So far, that hasn’t happened. I can’t understand why, because I’m so sweet! I’m a 6 to 7-month-old girl

who was found as a stray, and I’ve shown no aggression to any other dogs here. I just want to play and live a

happy life with my humans. I’ve been here over 30 days so I hope you’ll hurry! Dogs arrive at the shelter all the

time and there is not enough room for us all. My adoption fee includes Distemper/Parvo vaccine, Kennel Cough vac-

cine, Rabies Vaccine, deworming, and 30 day flea/tick treatment. The shelter is now open on Sundays, from 1pm to 4pm, in case you can’t come during the week. It’s also

open on Saturdays from Noon to 4pm. For more information, please call Pender County Animal Shelter at

910-259-1484 or email [email protected].

◄I’m a Lab/Greyhound mix and my name is

Drake. I found myself at Paw’s Place because my owner abandoned me at a kennel, never to return. It

was a very sad time for me, but now I’m more like my old self. I am starting to trust people again and I

love to play with stuffed toys. I’m about 5-years-

old, vaccinated, neutered and microchipped. I probably would do best in a home with children ages 12 and over. When you come to visit me, look for the tall, black dog

wagging a big stuffed toy around! That’s me, saying, “Come over and play!”

◄My name is Alisha and I found myself at the

Brunswick County Animal Shelter when my owner

turned me in. No explana-tion. I’m now at Paw’s

Place. I am up to date on my shots, spayed and

microchipped. I’m really quite small, although we

are not sure what my breed is. I’m only 13

pounds and about 6-months-old. I am a

very good traveler in the car and I especially like being held in your lap. So if you are looking for a lap dog, come my way - maybe we are meant for each other!

▲We are Amber and Opal. Last month you got to meet our sisters, but there are still some of us avail-

able from Diamond’s litter of puppies. Mama is a Rottweiler and we don’t really know who Dad is. But the one thing everyone says is that we are very calm and laid-back puppies. That is probably good, be-

cause we do think that we will be on the large size – maybe 60 pounds. We are just over 3-months-old,

spayed, microchipped and ready to go!

◄It’s me, John Boy, and I just don’t know why I haven’t

been snatched up! I’m only

4-years-old and a nice size at

65 pounds. I’m very gentle and

loving. I do have some ar-

thritis, but the vet says that once I’m out of the elements, that should improve. My “dream job” would be to have a family with children that I can love and they can give me belly rubs. A fenced yard would be icing on the cake. If

you think we’re a match, call my friends here!

◄Can you tell by my smile that I’m a happy dog? My name is Suki. I’m a small

Lab/Hound female mix. I am under two years of

age and weigh 25 pounds. Yes, I’m fully grown and the perfect size! I was

originally rescued from an animal shelter by an elderly lady who came to realize I was too much puppy for her. I am a cuddler who loves to play fetch. I get

along with many dogs but, of course, if you have an-

other dog, we should meet first. I like where I am, but I would be even happier if I

had a family to call my very own! Come meet me today.

◄I’m Wesley. I came from a hoarding situa-tion in Pender County with seven other

dogs. Casper and I are the only two dogs that have not

been adopted. I’m just 20

pounds and about 4-years-old. I would do best in a home that doesn’t have small children as I’m still shy and fearful.

It would be helpful if you had another small dog to show me the rules of the house. Even better would be to adopt my buddy Casper with me. If you’re patient and under-

standing, I hope you’ll consider giving me a loving home!

Talk about good luck!

We ran into some angels

on a very bad day.

Our names are Rosalie,

Beth and Leah, and

we are three sisters, just

8-weeks-old, who are forever grate-ful to the good humans of the world. You see, we were abandoned in a

box at a gas station on a sweltering hot day. A lady saw us and drove us to the county shelter where our

fate would have been uncertain. As we were pulling into the parking lot,

two ladies from Pender Humane Society were just getting ready to leave after having picked up a dog from the shelter. Well, they kindly

agreed to take us with them. So now we are here, and we are safe until we find loving homes. Thank you! We are

precious pups who love to play and be cuddled. Hurry over and pick the one who steals your heart! Any choice you

make will be a good one. For driving directions or adoption info, call Pender Humane Society at 910-259-7022.

◄My name may be Winter (A016812) but my personal-ity is as warm and welcom-ing as a beautiful spring day! I was very happy to come out of this cage and rest on this human’s shoulders for my photo opportunity. At just 3-years-old, I’m a pure white boy who was found as a stray. I must have be-longed to someone at some point as I love humans and enjoy being petted. Please, won’t you adopt me? You’ll never be lonely again.

Wow, I’m a gorgeous boy! My long, chocolate

brown fur and green eyes will be quite the

topic of discussion when visitors come to our house! My name is

Congi (A016880) and I’m a loving adult kitty who gets along great

with other cats. I'm already neutered and

the vet said I’m in good health. Adopt me and

I’ll make your home even more beautiful!

◄I’m used to living indoors with a loving owner, but sadly my human parent died and I had to come to the shelter. Trouble, pictured above, came with me. My name is Garfield (A016949) and I’m a 3-year-old spayed girl who is beautiful, inside and out! I love to be held and I enjoy meeting new people. I hope you’ll come visit so you can see me in person. I’ll melt your heart!

►I’m a happy-go-lucky young boy and my name is Quinn (A016771). At just

11-months-old, I was found as a stray, but I

know some commands and am very friendly to everyone I meet. I’m a

blue tri-color Pit Bull mix and I’ve never shown ag-

gression to any other dog. I’m looking forward to a

future with my new family - we’ll go places together and have a great time.

Come over and meet me!

◄I’m Luna, a petite, 9-month-old Tortoiseshell girl who is - quite simply - a lover. I adore people so very much.

My purring motor begins as soon

as you walk through the door. I get along well with other cats and I like dogs,

too! I’m already spayed, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. All I need is a lap to cuddle in, arms to hold me and folks

who will cherish me forever. Is that you?

◄Puppy Alert! My name is Duncan

and I’m sitting here so sweetly, hoping

you’ll take me home. I enjoy being kissed and cuddled and I won’t turn down a

treat or two. I’ll even ‘sit’ when you show

me the treat! I arrived at the shelter with

my brothers Niki and Casper, pictured

above. We are Shep-herd/Hound mixes, just 10-weeks-old, and we couldn’t be friendlier if

we tried. The families who adopt us will be so happy. Won’t you hurry over and get to know each of us?

►Looking for a sweet

cuddle partner?

Ask for me, Ruby! I’m a 2-year-old spayed girl who is up to

date on shots and litterbox-trained. I just

adore peo-ple, even

though I was abandoned by my owner. A great neighbor kept me fed and warm until I could come to the shelter. I love to be petted and enjoy meeting new people. I also interact happily

with the other cats here. Won’t you be my next visitor?

◄Free Puppy Kisses Right Here! Hello, my name is Niki and I’m a 10-week-old boy puppy with a fun and playful attitude towards this adven-ture called Life! I have two brothers, Casper and Duncan. They are also pic-tured on this page. We are each hoping for loving homes where we can be cuddled and kissed. Let’s go home today!

◄I’m a perfect little angel named Betsi! They tell me I’m a

4-year-old Chihuahua mix girl. I’m a very friendly young lady who is quiet, playful and house-trained. (That’s one of the

advantages of adopting an adult

dog!) I am spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm preven-

tion. I’m at the shelter now, but I spent some time in a foster home and I got along with

other dogs. I even liked to sleep with the cats! If you’d like an obedient, loving, family friend, adopt me!

►Sitting on command is one of my specialties! So is melting hearts.

Hi, my name is Casper and I’m a 10-week-old

puppy who was rescued from Animal Control

along with my brothers Duncan and Niki. You can see their adorable faces on this page, too!

I’m a stunning white sweetheart with a

friendly and fun person-ality. I’m also neutered, vaccinated and ready to play with you in my new

home. Hurry over and let’s meet. I could be the best friend you’ve been searching for!

◄My name is Gordon and I’m a

10-year-old Spaniel mix.

I’m quiet and sweet and I like

other dogs. I did test

heartworm positive but I’ve started treatment and RACE will pay for my treat-

ments. I am house-trained and will follow you everywhere. I love to take rides in the car and act beautifully when you take

me anywhere!

◄Hey there, I'm Sal, short for Sally Jo. I am a Labra-dor Retriever and

Shar Pei mix and if I may say so my-

self, quite pretty. I am 5-years-old and find myself home-less because my owner died. I do

fine with other dogs but I had a bad

experience with a cat, so I don't like

them. If you have another dog, that is fine with me. I do have heartworms but R.A.C.E. will pay for the slow treat-

ment method. I really am a smart, sweet girl.

►My name is Bart and I’m a 10-year-old Shih Tzu mix. I get along with other dogs and I’m a sweet and loving boy. I will be neu-tered and have my eyes

checked and then I will be ready for my real forever

home. I deserve to spend my senior years enjoying

the lap of luxury and com-fort. Can you open your

home to a special guy like me and give me the com-fort we all deserve as we

age? I am heartworm negative and almost com-

pletely house-trained.

◄My name is Barney and I’m a 14-year-old Chihuahua mix . I was born blind but I can get around the house just fine once I map it out in my head. I love other dogs, I’m house-trained, I tested heartworm negative and I just wants you to cuddle with me. When I want your at-tention, I will find you and then use my front paw on your leg...smart boy!

►I need a permanent foster home! My

name is Max and I am such a wonderful boy.

I was rescued by a very nice girl who

could not keep me. I have been featured everywhere online

and in print for quite a long time. I guess I keep getting passed

over because I am 13-years-old. I am such an easy, calm boy. I

love to take walks and then I'm good for a nap. I am absolutely no trouble. I need someone who will let me live with them, love me and take care of me. I do have arthritis in my hips but

there will be no expense to you, R.A.C.E. will pay for all my bills. Could you be my hero?

◄My name is Lacey. I was named Lassie but Lassie I am not so they

renamed me Lacey. I am very sweet and smart. They

believe I am part Border Collie and Hound, two terri-

fic personalities. I was taken out of the shelter

because I was scared of all the noise in there. I may be a little shy when I first meet you, but I will warm

up quickly. I would love to find a home with another dog to play with. I am 40 pounds,

house-trained and crate-trained. I do have heartworms but not to worry, R.A.C.E. pays for my meds for the slow kill treatment.

Please choose me!

My name is Bob and I’m a

2-year-old Poodle mix who is a good boy.

I am crate-trained and

have a pretty good under-standing of

house-training. The trouble

with me is that I’ve had a run

of bad luck. My first home, as a

puppy, was with a family who realized they didn't have enough time to

dedicate to the proper raising of a canine friend. This prompted them to give me away to the first household that showed an interest in me. My second chance didn't work

out any better. They were good people who were busy and the kids scared me. They realized the situation wasn't

working and reached out for help. Next I was adopted by a nice couple with an older pooch, thinking I would be a com-panion for the old boy. The elder was not impressed. Co-lumbus Humane Society took me in and I’ve been doing

great in a foster home. I get along well with the dogs and cats and I play well with the others. I crave attention from people, I’ve been neutered and vaccinated, and I’m now very ready to be adopted by a true forever family. If you can provide me with all of the good in life that I deserve, please contact Columbus Humane Society by emailing

[email protected] or calling 910-499-1148.

I am sponsored by Cindy Meyers in loving memory of Harley and Murphy.

Hey there, I'm Thor! I'm a 1½-year-old, long-haired male.

I’m a unique mix of Seal Point Siamese and American Curl. I'm a very outgoing and loving cat, but being inside a cage

makes me really unhappy and

grouchy. But I must say, I think the vol-unteers here are

impressed with how well I've been toler-ating it considering how much I dislike being confined to a small space. Also, I

wanted to let you know I love affection, but just don't try to pet me when I am kneading on a blanket! I guess that's just one of my little

quirks. You'd better stop by soon if you’d like to offer me a home - after all, I do have such a handsome face and am incredibly awesome! Come see me at the CAT Adoption Center in Petsmart in Wilmington. You can also call Cat

Adoption Team at 910-792-9014 for adoption information.

SOAR (Southport Oak Island Animal Rescue) Please call 910-457-6340 to adopt us!

◄I am Allie, a 6-year old Wirehaired Terrier mix. My past life caused me

some anxiety for sure, but SOAR came to my rescue and my days are a lot sun-

nier now, as I am pretty much a happy-go-lucky girl, chas-ing balls, going on walks, getting belly rubs, and getting brushed. Yes, I am enjoying the company of the volun-

teers, but my earlier experiences have left me a little jumpy sometimes – most often around men that I am not familiar

with. I like most of the dogs here, but cats are not really my cup of tea. Please come out for a visit or two so we can really get acquainted. Then maybe we can go home???

▲►We four kitten siblings (3 boys and a girl) were left behind to fend for ourselves

when our humans left the premises, possibly taking our mama cat with them. Despite having been treated so cruelly, we are healthy, social dar-

lings who love everyone. We are just 10-weeks-old and we entertain all the folks who come to see us. Please visit and give us a cuddle. You just might find yourself falling in love!

►I’m Baxter, and I came to SOAR as a pretty shy kitten, but

now, at 2-years-old, I have settled in quite

nicely. I have had some foster home

experience and it con-vinced me that living

with some nice hu-mans would be the life

for me. Stop by and visit me anytime.

You’ll find me sharing an apartment with my

Tortie sister Dixie (pictured also on this page). We’d love to see you at our door!

►I’m a loving, beautiful and sweet Shepherd mix

girl named Layla! I'm just 2-years-old and am

house-trained and familiar with a doggie door. I also walk well on a leash and

I’d love a fenced-in yard at my new home. I love to give puppy kisses, too!

I can seem a little "standoffish" to some dogs

but I warm up to others really easily. People,

however, are my FAVE especially when I roll over

and they give me belly rubs! I will be turning 3-years-old in September and would

love to celebrate at my very own house!!!!

◄Laid-back and loving are words that

describe me! I'm 2-year-old Dixie - and I was actually born at SOAR but had to come back when my person

could no longer take care of me. I was sad at first - but I

love being at SOAR until I find my “furr-ever” home! They

take really good care of me and brush me and give me all kinds of attention! But I'm too beautiful to stay at SOAR for

too long. Come see me soon!

staff here decided it was high time for me to be treated like a very special little Princess, so they started spoiling me

with treats and lots of attention. I was previously trained to go to the bathroom on potty pads, but am in the process of learning how to relieve myself outside. At my foster home, I learned how to go up and down the stairs and now it's my favorite thing to do! Breakfast and dinner are my favorite times of day! I just can't wait to get some yummy food! I

play well with other dogs and I ignore cats (they are strange to me). I'm still a little shy but very curious and,

with time, I become brave. I'm looking for a family who will be patient with me and give me lots of love. I can't wait to meet you and show you just what a special Princess I am! I’ve been spayed and vaccinated and I just had a dental. To adopt me, call 910-395-6555 or fill out an adoption ap-

plication at www.collegeroadanimalhospital.com.

Back off Papparazzi!

There is enough of my Sweet-ness to go

around. Get what I did

there? “Sweetness”

because I am

Sweetie…Okay, I will stop kidding around. I

am looking for just the right person to pet me, clean my litter box and cater to my every need. I would really appreciate it if you

have some kids because then there are more hands to pet me and often some crumbs on the floor for me to gobble

up. You don’t have to worry about brushing my teeth after meals because I don’t have any. But that won’t stop me

from snagging any morsel, hard or soft, that I can find. My age, well, I may be about 7-years but I feel young like a spring kitten and I’m healthy as a horse. Call 910-256-

2624 to see if I am willing to accept your accommodations. And if we’re not the right fit? No worries, I have some

feline friends at C.A.R.E. who might be for you.

I am sponsored by Atlantic Animal Hospital who supports Coastal Animal Rescue Effort (C.A.R.E.).

My name is Kori and I had a

home but was left to fend for myself when

everyone moved away. I’m a

beautiful Calico who’s 3-years of

age and I’ve been spayed and

vaccinated. Unfortunately, I’m having a much harder

time than most abandonded pets. I’m so

upset by it that I pulled some of the hair off of my tail (insert sad face emoticon here). When I do feel safe, I’m a purry girl and expert biscuit maker. I’m also one of those kitties

who will lift up to meet your hand to be petted. Please save me and help heal my broken heart. If you would like to

know more about me or inquire about the adoption proc-ess, please call Adopt-An-ANGEL at

910-392-0557 or visit www.adoptanangel.net.

I am sponsored by Perry Davis. Thank you!

What’s going on? I’ll tell you what! It’s me, Chong,

a gorgeous 6-month-old male Lab/Hound mix! I am currently taking applications

for a forever home. I am looking for someone who needs me to take their life

to a whole new level. Right now I am chilling over in the New Hanover Correctional Center, where I am part of

the Pawsitive Partners Prison Program. My inmate trainers and Monty’s Home volunteers are teaching me

everything I need to be a great family dog, such as basic commands, tricks, leash-walking, and crate-training. This

will give me a great skill set to bring to my new family, along with my dazzling good looks. I really do think you

should check me out. Just email my people at [email protected], visit their website at

www.montyshome.org or call them at 910-259-7911. You can also check our their Facebook page at

www.facebook.com/montyshome.

I am sponsored by Connie at Dog Speak. Thank you for helping me find a forever home!

Seniors 4 Seniors: The Purrfect Match All 4 Cats, a no-kill cat rescue and community out-reach based in Wilmington, is introducing a program designed to place senior cats age 5 and up with senior citizens age 60 and up. "Seniors 4 Seniors" aims at im-proving the lives of seniors through pet ownership as well as helping senior cats, who are often overlooked, find loving forever homes. All adoptable cats are spayed or neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and have been analyzed physically and behaviorally, so adoption spe-cialists can match up adopters with the perfect cat. Adopters go through the regular screening process, but with the program, the adoption fee is waived. The organization provides ongoing post-adoption support, such as making follow-up phone calls after the adoption to ensure everything is going smoothly. Volun-teers also answer any questions and provide advice to the adopter for the duration of an adopted animal's life. In situations where an adopter must be hospitalized long-term or becomes unable to care for the animal, All 4 Cats will always accept returns of the cat if a suitable home with a friend or family member cannot be found. If you’re interested in adopting from the "Seniors 4 Seniors" program, you can find a list of cats currently available at www.all4cats.org. You can also email [email protected] for any information or if you're inter-ested in volunteering or fostering. Donations are always welcome, and All 4 Cats is an all-volunteer, 501c3 regis-tered nonprofit organization.

Bird Rescue Needs Your Help Everyone has heard the expression ‘it's raining cats and dogs’ - well, at Skywatch Bird Rescue, it’s birds...and they are now fully into baby bird season. According to volunteer Phyllis Charnoff, “You have to feed baby birds from dawn to dusk every 20 minutes just like their parents would. We now have over 60 babies in our care and this is just the beginning of the season. We get in hundreds over the next few months.” SkyWatch is needing all kinds of volunteers to help and is putting out a (bird) call to fellow animal lovers who would be willing to give a little of their time. Opportunities avail-able include: Hotline Workers - you could answer your phone from home (4 hour shift once a week); Shift Workers - feed baby birds and take care of other injured birds (5 hours once a week); Transporters - learn to capture and/or just bring in injured birds in need (on call); and Helpers – general help needed at the rescue hospital and grounds (3 hours once a week). Training will be provided. You only need a helping heart and hands. SkyWatch Bird Rescue is a 501(c) 3 non-profit that is licensed by the State and Federal governments. They rescue injured birds in the Southeast North Carolina area. They have pelicans, hawks, swans, egrets, songbirds, and others who have either been rescued or rehabilitated and released. Last year, several thousand birds were saved. Please con-sider joining their flock and saving precious animals. You will find it very rewarding. For information, please call 910-274-8479 or 855-40-RESCUE (855-407-3728) or visit www.skywatchbirdsrescue.org.

Major Breakthrough in Pawsitive Partners Prison Program! Monty’s Home and New Hanover Correctional Center have partnered up with the Cape Fear Raptor Center (located at Rocky Point Animal Hospital) as a part of the prison’s Work Release Program. For the first time in this state, a minimum security inmate in the NC prison system has been hired, through the work release program, to work in an animal care/rehabilitation facility, namely, the Cape Fear Raptor Center. In order for an inmate to qualify, they must have worked as a dog trainer with the Monty’s Home/Pawsitive Partners Prison Program. In this program the inmates provide the dogs with basic training, manage their medical needs, and provide daily care for eight weeks. At the end of the eight weeks, dogs are adopted to families in the community. There is a 100% adoption rate of graduates from this non-profit organization. Qualified inmates working in the Pawsitive Partners Prison Program have developed excellent skills in this field and will bring these skills to participating work re-lease facilities. The businesses in turn provide wages which are used to pay room and board at the state facility as well as pay back debts related to their incarceration. Visit www.montyshome.org for more information.

Your new best friend is standing here looking up

at you! How can you resist my

adorable face? My name is

Kodiak (A078906) and I’m a 1-year-old Labrador Re-

triever mix who could also be

described as a big, loveable

teddy bear who is friendly to all I

meet. The volun-teers have a

great time with me in playgroups and enjoy watch-ing me interact with people and other dogs. And

just look at how handsome I am! Won’t you come meet me? We could have a fun and happy life ahead of us! My adoption fee includes a physical examination, heartworm test, a rabies vaccination and neuter surgery. For driving

directions or more information, call Brunswick County Sheriff’s Animal Protective Services at 910-754-8204.

I am sponsored by Adam's Folly Pet Boarding,

Bolivia, NC. Thanks!

Hello there, my name is Pepper! I have a sad story to tell you, but I’m sure one day the ending will be a happy one! You see, I was found abandoned in a ditch in Hamp-

stead. When I got to the vet’s office, they discovered that I am also

blind. But wait! Just like they say,

there is a silver lining to every cloud. Mine is

that I can still see shadows and I

can walk around just fine. I tilt my head in order to see better and sense

what’s around me. I am a very sweet boy who absolutely loves all people. I do well with other dogs, too (girls espe-cially), as long as we are introduced slowly. In fact, I would probably benefit from another dog in the home to act as my ’seeing eye dog’. I am young, between 12 and 18-months-

old, and I weigh 40 pounds. Please contact Pender Hu-mane Society if you are interested in adopting me! Their

number is 910-259-7022. Hope to see you soon!

I am sponsored by Levi Donovan. Everybody wins with adoption!

Breed Rescues

I know you have not seen anything cuter than me - my foster mommy tells me so all the time! I am Poppy and I am 10-years-old. My foster

mom found out I had conges-tive heart failure. I was put

on medication and have never felt or sounded better. I have a new ‘leash on life’ and I will enjoy every mo-

ment because I’m moving and shaking and loving better than ever. Okay, so maybe it wasn't the greatest news but I won't let that get me down - and it shouldn't stop you from meeting

me! Call 910-821-3504 and leave a message or you can send an email to [email protected].

This photo captures my first time stepping on

grass! My name is Darcy and I have spent my entire

life kenneled in order to produce puppies. I sur-

vived 9-years in that breeding facility and am quickly learning that hu-

man attention, a soft blan-ket and canned food is great! I’m loving, only 15 pounds,

sweet and cute as a button. I’m also spayed, microchipped and vaccinated. I am learning to walk on a leash, am now house-trained, and respond well to other dogs. If you are patient and loving, then I’m the girl for you! To fill out an

application, visit www.schnauzerrescueofthecarolinas.org. Please call 919-723-7145 if you need one mailed or faxed. P.S. Mention this PawPrints ad and get a $50 discount on

my adoption donation!

I am Eric and I won the lottery coming in to res-cue. You see, I sat in a shelter with a fatty lump

that weighed over a pound, hanging from my chest! Within 5 days in

rescue, they made it disappear! My foster mom calls me a goof

ball because I make her laugh! I am 8 to 9-years-old, kind and sweet, give lots of

puppy kisses and I love cuddling as close to you as possi-ble as we doze off to dream land. I’m crate and house-trained and vaccinated. Call 910-821-3504 and leave a message or email [email protected] for info.

CAROLINA POODLE RESCUE

I’m Snoop of Camden and I’m a Toy Poodle who wants to be

your constant companion! I’m a great little guy to hang out with

and I just adore people. I’ve had my teeth cleaned and quite a few

were removed because they hadn’t been cared for - but I feel great now. I have some nice soft kibble that I eat. I am between 8

to 10-years-old and everyone thinks I could be a good therapy dog - after all, what’s better therapy than a snuggly Poodle in your lap? I’m working on crate-training, I’m easy to groom and I like to show off my new hair cut after I’m finished. To adopt me, call 864-489-

3559 or visit website at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org.

SCHNAUZER RESCUE OF THE CAROLINAS

My name is Stanley, and I was found curled up in a ball

at a local animal shelter, trying to hide from everyone. The neglect I had suffered

was obvious, yet after I spent some time with SRC volunteers, I blossomed! I was also groomed, which

made me and everyone else smile! I am going to be a

great family companion now that I’ve learned to trust. My wonderful foster parents have given me self-confidence and my personality is shining. I am heartworm negative, house-trained, neutered, vaccinated and I’m friendly to other dogs.

I’ve not been cat-tested. To fill out an application, visit www.schnauzerrescueofthecarolinas.org. Call 919-723-

7145 if you need one mailed or faxed. P.S. Mention this ad and get a 10% discount on my adoption donation!

I'm Colby and I was rescued from a hoarding situation. It turned out that

I had sarcoptic and demodox mange. I'm kind of a shy boy but

I'm really sweet. I just want some-one to love. I'm a 3-year-old Poodle and Yorkie mix. I'd really love to be

part of a family with at least one other dog. A big brother or sister who I can copy and be best buds with. I've always lived with a lot of other dogs so I'm not sure I'd like being an only dog. Did I mention

that I'm crate-trained? I'm a very good boy and I'm smart so I pick up things quickly! If you’re interested, call 864-489-

3559 or visit www.carolinapoodlerescue.org.

Yep, that’s one of my many talents. I’m

Amber and my family moved away and left me. I enjoy all kinds
