Principally Speaking
Dear Parents,
I wanted to remind you that during March we are focusing on the Wonder of Christ’s
love. Lent is a beautiful time to reflect on how much God loves us and cares for us. It
is a time to look at the crucifix to see perfect, sacrificial love. Christ loves us
unconditionally. Please take time during Lent to remind your children that no sin is too
big and that God will always love them. Please ponder ways you can mirror the love of
Christ in your home. These ways may include praying for someone who is sick or has
hurt you or your children in some way, fasting from candy and using the money saved
to purchase socks for the homeless, or attending the Deanery Prayer Service this
evening at 7:00 at St. Pius X Church as a family. Our children are watching us and
witnessing firsthand how to journey closer to Christ during Lent. This is an awesome
and amazing opportunity for you and me to shape our littlest souls and to experience
Christ.
A great big thank you for following the drop off and pick up procedures. It makes a
big difference when we are all on the same page and following the same rules. Safety
is key and keeping our students safe is the priority.
I want to end with a Lenten family prayer for you. It is from Loyola Press and is so
simple yet impactful. I thought you might like to use it with dinner time prayer.
Give us new eyes, Lord, to see our lives in the light of your love.
Too often our fear, neediness, anger, or hurt fog our vision.
Help us to see your providence in the glory of trees, lakes, and cloudless skies.
Help us to see your generosity in the many gifts we enjoy each day.
Help us to see your wisdom in the rhythm of the days, the weeks, the seasons, and
the years.
Help us to see your image in the faces of everyone we meet and to know your
goodness in the joy and love we feel for one another.
We ask you this because we know you love us. Amen.
Yours in Christ,
Mrs. Lonnemann
Dear Parents, For the past few weeks in computer class, students in grades K through 4 have been learning about internet safety and what it means to be a good digital citizen. We have covered a variety of topics such as safe websites, strong passwords, cyberbullying and their digital footprint. Often the lesson included a worksheet or activity page that I have completed with the students. I encouraged the students to take these handouts home and share them with you so they would understand the importance of our lessons. I told students that sometime during our lessons I would send home a letter or note to you to see if they were sharing what they learned and if I got back confirmation, I would have a treat or prize for them. In order for you student to receive the treat/prize, I will need the following information returned to me with your students name and your signature on it by next Friday (3/23): Kindergarten - Write down on a piece of paper the three rules of internet safety that your child learned from Jeremiah (if they need help with the reference, he was the clay animated character we saw in a short video clip). 1st grade - Students received a "Think before you Post" handout that they were told they needed to go home and color. They will need to return it to me colored with their name and your signature. 2nd grade - Students completed a worksheet on strong passwords. If they still have it, they will need to return it. If not, have your students write down two rules we discussed about creating a strong and safe password. 3rd grade - Recently we completed a digital footprint worksheet. If your student still has it, have them return it to me with their name and your signature. If not, have them write down two things they learned from that lesson. 4th grade - Last week, we completed a worksheet on cyberbullying. If your student still has it, have them return it to me with their name and your signature. If not, have them write down the definition of cyberbullying and one additional fact they remember from our lessons. Thank you so much for your assistance in this project! Mrs. Clark

Everybody Counts
Everybody Counts is a great opportunity for our kids to learn to respect differences and learn about
disabilities. We need several volunteers to give an hour and a half of your time on Thursday, March
22nd. Please consider sharing your time. You will be provided all materials and will work as a small
team to guide the students through activities that help them learn about their grade’s specific
disability. You may sign up for multiple grades if the times don’t overlap. We truly appreciate any time
that you can give!
Contact Carrie Keneipp at [email protected] or Michelle Litmer at [email protected] with any

“Soles for Souls” Shoe Drive - Trey Gronotte, St. Pius parishioner and freshman at Covington Catholic
High School, is working with the Aubrey Rose Foundation to collect gently worn, used or new pairs of
shoes. The donated shoes are shipped to developing nations across the
globe where they are cleaned, made like new, and distributed so that the
systemic poverty in these developing countries can be stopped in its track.
The funds received by the Aubrey Rose Foundation for the shoes go directly
to benefit families of children suffering from critical, life-threatening illnesses
who are struggling financially and those living in poverty. In connection with
the Aubrey Rose Foundation’s “Soles for Souls” shoe drive beginning March
12 through March 23, Trey is asking that anyone who has any pairs of gently
worn, used or new pairs of shoes, please bring them to school. There will be
boxes in the St. Pius X office where the shoes can be placed. So, gather up
all those old shoes and bring them in! This is your chance to do some spring
cleaning and get rid of some clutter, all while helping others “put their best foot
forward.” Click here if you have any questions or contact Trey at [email protected]. For more
information on the Aubrey Rose Foundation and their efforts, please
visit www.aubreyrose.org.

earn 5 cents and for each box code we earn 15 cents. This can be accomplished in one of two
ways. You can create an account on Coke.com and designate St. Pius X as the recipient or you
can send in your caps and box codes to school to Ms. Schmitt and she will enter them for you.
