Paperless day: a difficult task?

We planned to do a paperless day which means using no paper to carry out the lessons for one day. In doing so, we realised two things. On one hand, how tied teachers are to paper when they plan their lessons and on the other hand, how our children interprete that using no paper at school means they are not working

and just having fun.

Infant Class 1English Session

We had previously been doing a mini-project about the 3 Little Pigs with the 3 year olds in English.

On Paperless Day, the children, Heidi and I practiced the vocabulary about the house and building materials. We sang a song about building a house and finally, we did a construction workshop with different materials.

RINCONES ABN y ERASMUSEl día de sin Papel, en primero de infantil. lo llevamos a cabo fusionando las Nuevas Metodologías con el Programa Erasmus. Para ello trabajamos las matemáticas a través del método de ABN y con elementos típicos de Holanda, que fué el país que elegimos para trabajar dentro del Programa Erasmus.

Para ello, trabajamos la descomposición de los números con molinos de viento y los números vecinos(anterior y posterior) con los típicos tulipanes holandeses.

Page 6: Paperless Day at Palmireno School · 2019. 7. 28. · Paperless day: a difficult task? We planned to do a paperless day which means using no paper to carry out the lessons for one

Además de trabajar con elementos de Holanda, distribuimos a los niños en otra serie de rincones relacionados también con las matemáticas ABN-

En este rincón asociaban cantidad, contando el número de puntos del dado, para averiguar qué nombre de compañero del aula tenían que colocar en cada ventana de la casita. De esta forma, trabajaban también la lectoescritura.

Page 7: Paperless Day at Palmireno School · 2019. 7. 28. · Paperless day: a difficult task? We planned to do a paperless day which means using no paper to carry out the lessons for one

Infant Class 5English Session

The 5 year old class and I had previously done a class based on the animals, from the different autonomous regions of Spain, and their special characteristics.

On Paperless Day, we did I.T. based activities on the same subject in the computer room. We played an animal classification game on the Sheppard Software platform and the children did a drawing and wrote a descriptive sentence on Paint.

Class 1 PRIMARY

Desde el área de música, trabajamos los ritmos a partir de las figuras musicales que habíamos trabajado previamente (la negra, las corcheas y el silencio de negra). Formamos un compás de 4 tiempos con estas figuras que se repetía continuamente a modo de ostinato.

Después lo interpretábamos, primero con nuestra voz, luego con percusión corporal y finalmente con un instrumento de pequeña percusión.

Page 18: Paperless Day at Palmireno School · 2019. 7. 28. · Paperless day: a difficult task? We planned to do a paperless day which means using no paper to carry out the lessons for one

Cuándo ya lo dominábamos...formamos otro compás de 4 tiempos que superponiamos al ya existente, y seguiamos los mismos pasos descritos

anteriormente.

Page 19: Paperless Day at Palmireno School · 2019. 7. 28. · Paperless day: a difficult task? We planned to do a paperless day which means using no paper to carry out the lessons for one

De esta manera creamos una polifónia con 3 compases distintos. Los trabajamos primero por separado y luego de manera

conjunta, cada grupo un compás.

Page 20: Paperless Day at Palmireno School · 2019. 7. 28. · Paperless day: a difficult task? We planned to do a paperless day which means using no paper to carry out the lessons for one

Para hacer los grupos usamos unas pulseras con pompones de colores que identificaban los grupos.

Page 21: Paperless Day at Palmireno School · 2019. 7. 28. · Paperless day: a difficult task? We planned to do a paperless day which means using no paper to carry out the lessons for one

El último paso fue realizar un concierto en el que cada alumno formaba parte de un grupo encargado de interpretar con un instrumento de pequeña percusión, bajo la melodía de una canción, es en este caso “I’m gonna be (500 miles)”

Page 22: Paperless Day at Palmireno School · 2019. 7. 28. · Paperless day: a difficult task? We planned to do a paperless day which means using no paper to carry out the lessons for one

1º PRIMARIA - ScienceChildren close their eyes and they have to answer some questions :

Desde el área de música trabajamos la escala musical mediante el juego de los bolos.

Cada botella de leche tenía el nombre de una nota tanto con la nomenclatura tradicional como con la anglosajona

Class 2 PRIMARY

DO - RE - MI - FA - SOL - LA - SI C - D - E - F - G - A - B

in 4 PRIMARY, also...

We were working during the previous days on Croatia. Using teamwork children searched information about different features of this country. Then every team explained the rest of the class this info such as tourism, food, national parks...

After compiling information, this day we prepared a quiz, like Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.

In groups, using the projector children we playing in groups… and of course the score was really tight, and the game exciting.

Class 5 PRIMARYCLASS QUIZ: NORWAY BLOCKBUSTERS

Class 5 researched lots of information about Norway with Sylvia then on Paperless Day we played a game on the interactive whiteboard in the style of the 80s UK TV game show, Blockbusters.

VIKING BOAT

We previously planned the task searching for information about Vikings and later we focused on longboats of this period. We used lolly sticks and hot silicone to build them.

Page 38: Paperless Day at Palmireno School · 2019. 7. 28. · Paperless day: a difficult task? We planned to do a paperless day which means using no paper to carry out the lessons for one

Class 6 PRIMARY

SPEAKING TOUR AROUND THE EUROPEAN UNION: Each student in Class 6 researched a European Union country to present in a 5 minute oral presentation and lapbook. This presentation included a section related to “fun facts”. For the Paperless Day, the fun facts were compiled in a Genially interactive poster but… to make this a group grammar activity, the students had to work together to find the mistakes in each

fun fact. https://view.genial.ly/5b1581ca5148de0b55b44fdd/europe-fun-facts

SOCIAL VALUES: We played a traditional Game of Belgium. “Rolle Bolle”. Two teams try to put their rolling disk as near to a post as possible.

PASAPALABRA: In two teams we played “Pass the word” using maths and language contents.
