Pacific Ring of Fire

Location
• Forms the shape of a horseshoe or an arc• Ranges from South American plate until meeting with the Nazca plate just below the South American Plate. Then it travels upwards to the coasts of Mexico and the Central America Plate.
Major Plates and Volcanoes
• About ¾ of the worlds dormant and active volcanoes are in the pacific ring of fire.
• Its on the Nazca plate, South American plate, Juan de Fuca, and the entire boundary of the Pacific plate.
• Mount. Saint Helen is among the volcanoes here.
• When Volcanoes in the Pacific Ring of Fire erupt they erupt in violent explosions
Other Facts
• The Pacific Ring of Fire is in constant motion• Oceanic plates are going under the continental plates
• New ocean floor is being produced causing the rifts in the center
