LIMITED 2-YEAR WARRANTY ON CRAFTSMAN POWER MOWER

When used and maintained according to the operator's manual instructions, if this power mow-er fails due to a defect in material or workmanship within two years from the date of purchase,return it to any Sears store, Parts & Repair Center, or other Craftsman outlet for free repair.

Warranty coverage does not include:

• Expendable items that become worn during normal use, including but not limited toblade, blade adapters, spark plug, air cleaner and belts.

• Standard maintenance servicing, oil changes, or tune-ups.• Repairs necessary because of operator abuse, including but not limited to damage caused

by impacting objects that bend the frame or crankshaft, or over-speeding the engine.• Repairs necessary because of operator negligence, including but not limited to dam-

age caused by improper storage, or failure to maintain the equipment according to theinstructions contained in the operator's manual.

• Engine (fuel system) cleaning or repairs necessary because of fuel determined to becontaminated or oxidized (stale). In general, fuel should be used within 30 days of itspurchase date.

• Normal deterioration and wear of the exterior finishes, or product label replacement.

This warranty applies for only 90 days if this product is used for commercial or rental purposes.

IoGENERAL OPERATION• Read, understand,and follow all

instructionson the machineand in themanual(s)before starting. Be thoroughlyfamiliarwith the controls and the properuseof the machinebefore starting.

• Do not put hands or feet near or underrotatingparts. Keep clear of the dis-charge opening at all times.

• Only allow responsible individuals,whoare familiarwith the instructions, to oper-ate the machine.

• Clear the area of objects such as rocks,toys, wire, bones, sticks, etc., whichcould be picked up and thrown by blade.Be sure the area is clear of other peoplebefore mowing. Stop machine if anyoneenters the area.

Do not operate the mower when bare-foot or wearing open sandals. Alwayswear substantial foot wear.

Do not pull mower backwards unlessabsolutely necessary. Always look downand behind before and while movingbackwards.

• Never direct discharged material towardanyone. Avoid discharging materialagainst a wall or obstruction. Materialmay richochet back toward the opera-tor. Stop the blade when crossing gravelsurfaces.

• Do not operate the mower withoutproper guards, plates, grass catcher orother safety protective devices in place.

• See manufacturer's instructions forproper operation and installation ofaccessories. Only use accessories ap-proved by the manufacturer.

• Stop the blade(s) when crossing graveldrives, walks, or roads.

• Stop the engine (motor) whenever youleave the equipment, before cleaning themower or unclogging the chute.

• Shut the engine (motor) off and wait untilthe blade comes to complete stop beforeremoving grass catcher.

• Mow only in daylight or good artificiallight.

• Do not operate the machine while underthe influence of alcohol or drugs.

• Never operate machine in wet grass.Always be sure of your footing: keep afirm hold on the handle; walk, never run.

• Disengage the self-propelled mech-anism or drive clutch on mowers so

equipped before starting the engine.• If the equipment should start to vibrate

abnormally, stop the engine (motor) andcheck immediately for the cause. Vibra-tion is generally a warning of trouble. 3

• Always wear safety goggles or safetyglasses with side shields when oper-ating mower.

II. SLOPE OPERATION

Slopes are a major factor related to slip &fall accidents which can result in severe

injury. All slopes require extra caution. Ifyou feel uneasy on a slope, do not mow it.

DO:

• Mow across the face of slopes: neverup and down. Exercise extreme cautionwhen changing direction on slopes.

• Remove obstacles such as rocks, treelimbs, etc.

• Watch for holes, ruts, or bumps. Tallgrass can hide obstacles.

DO NOT:

• Do not trim near drop-offs, ditches orembankments. The operator could losefooting or balance.Do not trim excessively steep slopes.

• Do not mow on wet grass. Reducedfooting could cause slipping.

III. CHILDREN

Tragic accidents can occur if the operatoris not alert to the presence of children.Children are often attracted to the ma-

chine and the mowing activity. Never as-sume that children will remain where youlast saw them.• Keep children out of the trimming area

and under the watchful care of another

responsible adult.• Be alert and turn machine off if children

enter the area.

• Before and while walking backwards,look behind and down for small children.

• Never allow children to operate themachine.

• Use extra care when approaching blindcorners, shrubs, trees, or other objectsthat may obscure vision.

IV. SAFE HANDLING OF GASOLINE

Use extreme care in handling gasoline.Gasoline is extremely flammable and thevapors are explosive.• Extinguish all cigarettes, cigars, pipes

and other sources of ignition.• Use only an approved container.• Never remove gas cap or add fuel with

the engine running. Allow engine tocool before refueling.

• Never refuel the machine indoors.• Never store the machine or fuel contain-

er where there is an open flame, sparkor pilot light such as a water heater oron other appliances.

• Never fill containers insidea vehicle, ona truck or trailer bed with a plastic liner.Always place containerson the groundaway from yourvehicle before filling.

• Removegas-poweredequipmentfromthe truck or trailer and refuel it on theground. If this is not possible, thenrefuel such equipmentwith a portablecontainer, rather than from a gasolinedispenser nozzle.

• Keep the nozzle in contactwith the rimof the fuel tank or containeropening atall times until fueling is complete. Donot use a nozzle lock-opendevice.

• If fuel is spilled on clothing,changeclothing immediately.

• Never overfill fuel tank. Replacegascap and tighten securely.

V. GENERAL SERVICE• Never run a machine insidea closed

area.• Never makeadjustmentsor repairswith

the engine (motor) running.Disconnectthe spark plugwire, and keep the wireaway from the plug to prevent accidentalstarting.

• Keep nuts and bolts, especially bladeattachment bolts, tight and keep equip-ment in good condition.

• Never tamper with safety devices. Checktheir proper operation regularly.

• Keep machine free of grass, leaves, orother debris build-up. Clean oil or fuelspillage. Allow machine to cool beforestoring.

• Stop and inspect the equipment if youstrike an object. Repair, if necessary,before restarting.

• Never attempt to make wheel heightadjustments while the engine is running.

• Grass catcher components are subjectto wear, damage, and deterioration,which could expose moving parts orallow objects to be thrown. Frequentlycheck components and replace withmanufacturer's recommended parts,when necessary.

• Mower blades are sharp and can cut.Wrap the blade(s) or wear gloves, anduse extra caution when servicing them.

• Do not change the engine governor set-ting or overspeed the engine.

• Maintain or replace safety and instruc-tion labels, as necessary.

Read these instructions and this manual in its entirety before you attempt to assemble oroperate your new lawn mower.iMPORTANT: This lawn mower is shipped WITHOUT OIL OR GASOLINE in the engine.

Your new lawn mower has been assembled at the factory with the exception of thoseparts left unassembled for shipping purposes. All parts such as nuts, washers, bolts, etc.,necessary to complete the assembly have been placed in the parts bag. To ensure safeand proper operation of your lawn mower, all parts and hardware you assemble must betightened securely. Use the correct tools as necessary to ensure proper tightness.

TO REMOVE MOWER FROMHandle

CARTON bracket1. Remove loose parts included with mower.2. Cut down two end corners of carton

and lay end panel down flat.3. Remove all packing materials except

padding between upper and lowerhandle and padding holding operatorpresence control bar to upper handle. Knob

4. Roll mower out of carton and check carton

thoroughly for additional loose parts.

HOW TO SET UP YOUR MOWERTO UNFOLD HANDLE

iMPORTANT: Unfold handle carefully soas not to pinch or damage control cables.1. Raise lower handle section to operating

position and align hole in handle with oneof three height positioning holes.

2. Insert handle bolt through handle andbracket and secure with knob.

3. Repeat for opposite side of handle.4. Remove protective padding, raise up-

per handle section into place on lowerhandle and tighten both handle knobs.

5. Remove any packing material fromaround control bar.

Your lawn mower handle can be adjustedfor your mowing comfort. Refer to "AD-JUST HANDLE" in the Service and Adjust-ments section of this manual.

HOW TO USE YOUR LAWN MOWERENGINE SPEED

Engine speed was set at the factory foroptimum performance. It is not adjustable.

ENGINE ZONE CONTROL

_I, CAUTION: Federal regulations requirean engine control to be installed on thislawn mower in order to minimize the

risk of blade contact injury. Do not underany circumstances attempt to defeat thefunction of the operator control. The bladeturns when the engine is running.• Your lawn mower is equipped with an

operator presence control bar whichrequires the operator to be positionedbehind the lawn mower handle to start

and operate the lawn mower.

DRIVE CONTROL

• Self-propelling is controlled by hold-ing the operator presence control bardown to the handle and pulling the drivecontrol lever rearward to the handle.The farther toward the handle the lever

is pulled, the faster the unit will travel.• Forward motion will stop when either

the operator presence control bar ordrive control lever are released. To stopforward motion without stopping engine,release the drive control lever only. Holdoperator presence control bar downagainst handle to continue mowingwithout self-propelling.

NOTE: If after releasing the drive control themower will not roll backwards, push the mow-er forward slightly to disengage drive wheels.

DRIVE CONTROL ADJUSTMENT

Over time, the drive control system may be-come "loose", resulting in decreased speed.There is a turnbuckle on the underside of the

drive control housing to increase tension onthe drive cable. Proceed as follows:

1. Turn unit off and disconnect spark plugwire from spark plug.

2. Turn nut on underside of drive control

to increase drive speed.3. Operate mower to test drive speed.

Readjust as required.

, If condition fails to improve after theabove steps (forward speed remainsthe same), your drive belt is worn andshould be replaced,

Raise wheels for low cut and lower wheels

for high cut, adjust cutting height to suityour requirements. Medium position isbest for most lawns.

* To change cutting height, squeeze ad-juster lever toward wheel. Move wheelup or down to suit your requirements. Besure all wheels are in the same setting.

NOTE: Adjuster is properly positioned whenplate tab inserts into hole in lever. Also, 9-position adjusters (if so equipped) allow leverto be positioned between the plate tabs.

• You can now install the grass catcher oroptional clipping deflector.

BEFORE STARTING ENGINEADD OIL

Your lawnmower is shipped without oil inthe engine. For type and grade of oil touse, see "ENGINE" in the Maintenancesection of this manual.A CAUTION: DO NOT overfill engine withoil, or it will smoke heavily from the muffleron startup.1. Be sure lawnmower is level.

2. Remove oil dipstick from oil fill spout.3. You receive a container of oil with the

unit. Slowly pour the entire containerdown the oil fill spout into the engine.

NOTE: Initial oil fill requires only 18 oz.due to residual oil in engine from themanufacturers 100% quality testing. Whenchanging oil you may need 20 oz.4. Insert and tighten dipstick.IMPORTANT:. Check oil level before each use. Add oil

if needed. Fill to full line on dipstick.• Change the oil after every 25 hours of

operation or each season. You mayneed to change the oil more oftenunder dusty, dirty conditions. See "TOCHANGE ENGINE OIL" in the Mainte-nance section of this manual.

ADD GASOLINE

• Fill fuel tank to bottom of tank filler neck.

Do not overfill. Use fresh, clean, regularunleaded gasoline with a minimum of87 octane. Do not mix oil with gasoline.Purchase fuel in quantities that can beused within 30 days to assure fuel fresh-Bess.

• i, CAUTION: Wipe off any spilled oil orfuel. Do not store, spill or use gasolinexar an open flame.

CAUTION: Alcohol blended fuels

(called gasohol or using ethanol or metha-nol) can attract moisture which leads toseparation and formation of acids duringstorage. Acidic gas can damage the fuelsystem of an engine while in storage. Toavoid engine problems, the fuel systemshould be emptied before storage of 30days or longer. Empty the gas tank, startthe engine and let it run until the fuel linesand carburetor are empty. Use fresh fuelnext season. See Storage Instructions foradditional information. Never use engineor carburetor cleaner products in the fueltank or permanent damage may occur.

TO STOP ENGINE

• To stop engine, release operator pres-ence control bar.

TO START ENGINE

NOTE: Due to protective coatings on theengine, a small amount of smoke may bepresent during the initial use of the productand should be considered normal.

1. To start a cold engine, push primerthree (3) times before trying to start.Use a firm push. This step is notusually necessary when starting anengine which has already run for a fewminutes.

2. Hold operator presence control bardown to the handle and pull starterhandle quickly. Do not allow starterrope to snap back.

NOTE: In cooler weather it may benecessary to repeat priming steps. Inwarmer weather over priming may causeflooding and engine will not start. If you doflood engine, wait a few minutes beforeattempting to start and do not repeatpriming steps.

MOWING TIPS

_lb CAUTION: Do not use de-thatcher

blade attachments on your mower. Suchattachments are hazardous, will damageyour mower and could void your warranty.

• Under certain conditions, such as verytall grass, it may be necessary to raisethe height of cut to reduce pushing effortand to keep from overloading the engineand leaving clumps of grass clippings.It may also be necessary to reduceground speed and/or run the lawnmower over the area a second time.

• For extremely heavy cutting, reduce thewidth of cut by overlapping previouslycut path and mow slowly.

• For better grass bagging and most cut-ting conditions, the engine speed shouldbe set in the FAST position.

• Pores in cloth grass catchers canbecome filled with dirt and dust with use

and catchers will collect less grass. Toprevent this, regularly hose catcher offwith water and let dry before using.

• Keep top of engine around starter clearand clean of grass clippings and chaff.This will help engine air flow and extendengine life.

MULCHING MOWING TIPS

IMPORTANT: For best performance,keep mower housing free of built-upgrass and trash. See "CLEANING" in theMaintenance section of this manual.

• The special mulching blade will recut thegrass clippings many times and reducethem in size so that as they fall onto thelawn they will disperse into the grassand not be noticed. Also, the mulchedgrass will biodegrade quickly to providenutrients for the lawn. Always mulchwith your highest engine (blade) speedas this will provide the best recutting ac-tion of the blades.

• Avoid cutting your lawn when it is wet.Wet grass tends to form clumps andinterferes with the mulching action. Thebest time to mow your lawn is the earlyafternoon. At this time the grass hasdried, yet the newly cut area will not beexposed to direct sunlight.

• For best results, adjust the lawn mowercutting height so that the lawn mowercuts off only the top one-third of thegrass blades. If the lawn is overgrown itwill be necessary to raise the height ofcut to reduce pushing effort and to keepfrom overloading the engine and leavingclumps of mulched grass. For extremelyheavy grass, reduce your width of cutby overlapping previously cut path andmow slowly.

MAX 1/3

• Certain types of grass and grassconditions may require that an area bemulched a second time to completelyhide the clippings. When doing a sec-ond cut, mow across (perpendicular) tothe first cut path.

• Change your cutting pattern from weekto week. Mow north to south one week

then change to east to west the nextweek. This will help prevent mattingand graining of the lawn.

TIRES

• Keep tires free of gasoline, oil, or insectcontrol chemicals which can harm rubber.

• Avoid stumps, stones, deep ruts, sharpobjects and other hazards that maycause tire damage.

DRIVE WHEELS

Check rear drive wheels each time youmow to be sure they move freely. Thewheels not turning freely means trash,grass cuttings, etc., may be inside thedrive wheel and dust cover area and mustbe cleaned out to free drive wheels.

If necessary to clean the drive wheels,check both rear wheels.

BLADE CARE

For best results, blade must be kept sharp.Replace a bent or damaged blade._i CAUTION: Use only a replacementblade approved by the manufacturer ofyour mower. Using a blade not approvedby the manufacturer of your mower ishazardous, could damage your mower andvoid your warranty.TO REMOVE BLADE

1. Disconnect spark plug wire from sparkplug and place wire where it cannotcome in contact with plug.

2. Turn lawn mower on its side. Make

sure air filter and carburetor are up.3. Use a wood block between blade and

mower housing to prevent blade fromturning when removing blade bolt.

NOTE: Protect your hands with glovesand/or wrap blade with heavy cloth.4. Remove blade bolt by turning counter-

clockwise.

5. Remove blade and attaching hardware(bolt, lock washer, hardened washer).

NOTE: Remove the blade adapter andcheck the key inside hub of blade adapter.The key must be in good condition to workproperly. Replace adapter if damaged.TO REPLACE BLADE

1. Position the blade adapter on the en-gine crankshaft. Be sure key in adapterand crankshaft keyway are aligned.

2. Position blade on the blade adapteraligning the two (2) holes in the bladewith the raised lugs on the adapter.

3. Be sure the trailing edge of blade (oppo-site sharp edge) is up toward the engine.

4. Install the blade bolt with the lockwasher and hardened washer into

blade adapter and crankshaft.

5. Use block of wood between blade and

lawn mower housing and tighten theblade bolt, turning clockwise.

• The recommended tightening torque is35-40 ft. Ibs. / 47-54 N-m.

IMPORTANT: Blade bolt is heat treated.

If bolt needs replacing, replace only withapproved bolt shown in the Repair Partssection of this manual.

TO SHARPEN BLADE

NOTE: We do not recommend sharp-ening blade - but if you do, be sure theblade is balanced. An unbalanced blade

will cause eventual damage to lawnmower or engine.• The blade can be sharpened with a file

or on a grinding wheel. Do not attemptto sharpen while on the mower.

• To check blade balance, drive a nail intoa beam or wall. Leave about one inch of

the straight nail exposed. Place centerhole of blade over the head of the nail.If blade is balanced, it should remain ina horizontal position. If either end of theblade moves downward, sharpen theheavy end until the blade is balanced.

GRASS CATCHER

The grass catcher may be hosed withwater, but must be dry when used.

• Check your grass catcher often for dam-age or deterioration. Through normaluse it will wear. If catcher needs replac-ing, replace only with approved replace-ment catcher shown in the Repair Partssection of this manual. Give the lawn

mower model number when ordering.

GEAR CASE

• To keep your drive system workingproperly, the gear case and area aroundthe drive should be kept clean and freeof trash build-up. Clean under the drivecover twice a season.

• The gear case is filled with lubricant to theproper level at the factory. The only timethe lubricant needs attention is if service

has been performed on the gear case.

• If lubricant is required, use only TexacoStarplex Premium 1 Grease, Part No.750369. Do not substitute.

ENGINELUBRICATION

Use only high quality detergent oil ratedwith API service classification SG-SL.Select the oil's SAE viscosity gradeaccording to your expected operatingtemperature,

NOTE: Although multi-viscosity oils(5W30, 10W30 etc.) improve starting incold weather, these multi-viscosity oils willresult in increased oil consumption whenused above 32°F. Check your engine oillevel more frequently to avoid possibleengine damage from running low on oil.Change the oil after every 25 hours of opera-tion or at least once a year if the lawn moweris not used for 25 hours in one year.Check the crankcase oil level before

TO CHANGE ENGINE OIL

NOTE: Before tipping lawn mower to drainoil, empty fuel tank by running engine untilfuel tank is empty.1. Disconnect spark plug wire from spark

plug and place wire where it cannotcome in contact with plug.

2. Remove engine oil cap; lay aside on aclean surface.

3. Tip lawn mower on its side as shownand drain oil into a suitable container.Rock lawn mower back and forth to re-

move any oil trapped inside of engine.

Wipe off any spilled oil from lawnmower or side of engine.Slowly pour oil down the oil fill spout,stopping every few ounces to checkthe oil level with the dipstick.

6. Stop adding oil when you reach theFULL mark on the dipstick. Wait aminute to allow oil to settle.

7. Continue adding small amounts of oil,rechecking the dipstick until oil levelsettles at FULL. DO NOT overfill, orengine will smoke heavily from themuffler on startup.

8. Always be sure to retighten oil dipstickbefore starting engine.

9. Reconnect spark plug wire to plug.

AIR FILTER

Your engine will not run properly and maybe damaged by using a dirty air filter.Replace the air filter cartridge every 100hours of operation or every season, which-ever occurs first. Service air cleaner more

often under dusty conditions.

TO CLEAN AIR FILTER

1. Loosen screw and tilt cover to remove.

2. Carefully remove cartridge.3. Clean by gently tapping on a flat sur-

Af_ face. If very dirty, replace cartridge.CAUTION: Petroleum solvents, such as

kerosene, are not to be used to clean car-tridge. They may cause deterioration of thecartridge. Do not oil cartridge. Do not usepressurized air to clean or dry cartridge.4. Install cartridge, then replace cover

SPARK PLUG

Replace spark plug at the beginning ofeach mowing season or after every 100hours of operation, whichever occursfirst. Spark plug type and gap settingare shown in the "PRODUCT SPECIFIC-ATIONS" section of this manual.

CLEANING

IMPORTANT: For best performance, keepmower housing free of built-up grass andtrash. Clean the underside of your mowerafter each use.

_I_CAUTION: Disconnect spark plug wire

from spark plug and place wire where itcannot come in contact with plug.

• Clean underside of mower by scrapingto remove build-up of grass and trash.

• Clean engine often to keep trash fromaccumulating. A clogged engine runshotter and shortens engine life.

Keep finished surfaces and wheels freeof all gasoline, oil, etc.We do not recommend using a gardenhose to clean lawn mower unless the

electrical system, muffler, air filter andcarburetor are covered to keep waterout. Water in engine can result in short-ened engine life.

CLEAN UNDER DRIVE COVER

Clean under drive cover at least twice a sea-

son. Scrape underside of cover with puttyknife or similar tool to remove any build-upof trash or grass on underside of drive cover.

_ILWARNING: To avoid serious injury,before performing any service or adjust-ments:1. Release control bar and stop engine.2. Make sure the blade and all moving

parts have completely stopped.3. Disconnect spark plug wire from spark

plug and place wire where it cannotcome in contact with plug.

4. Remove idler arm assembly fromhousing by removing hex nut; thenremove drive belt from drive pulley, beltkeepers and idler arm assembly.

5. Turn lawn mower on its side. Make

sure air filter and carburetor are up.6. Remove screw securing debris shield.

Note that the debris shield has a tab

which fits into a gap in the housing.

REAR DEFLECTOR

The rear deflector, attached between the rearwheels of your mower, is provided to minimizethe possibility that objects will be thrown outof the rear of the mower into the operatormowing position. If the deflector becomesdamaged, it should be replaced.

TO REMOVE DRIVE BELT

1. Disconnect spark plug wire from sparkplug and place wire where it cannotcome in contact with plug.

2. Remove screws retaining drive cover(not shown); and remove drive coverfrom lawn mower housing.

3. Remove drive cable from anchor, thendetach it and return spring from idlerarm assembly.

Place new drive belt on engine pulley.Route the other end of the new drive

belt through hole in housing.

3. Return mower to upright position.4. Install new drive belt into idler arm

assembly,then around the drive pulley.Be sure belt is insideof belt keepers.

5. Reattach idler arm assemblywith hexnut previously removed.

6. Turn lawn mower on its side. Makesure air filter and carburetorare up.

7. Reattachdebris shield to housingwithtab of debris shield in housing hole.

8. Positionblade on the bladeadapteraligning the two (2) holes in the bladewith the raisedlugs on the adapter.

9. Be sure the trailing edge of blade (op-posite sharp edge) is up toward theengine as shown.

10. Installthe blade boltwith the lockwasher and hardenedwasher intoblade adapterand crankshaft.

11.Use block of wood betweenblade andlawn mower housingand tighten theblade bolt, turningclockwise.

• The recommended tightening torque is35-40 ft. Ibs.

12. Return mower to upright position.13. Reattach drive cable and return spring

to the idler arm assembly, then reat-tach drive cable to anchor.

14. Reattach drive cover with screw(s)previously removed.

15. Connect spark plug wire to spark plug.

TO ADJUST HANDLE

The handle on your lawn mower has three(3) height positions - adjust to height thatsuits you.1. Remove knob and carriage bolt on one

side of the lower handle.2. While holding handle assembly, remove

knob and carriage bolt from opposite side,

align hole in handle with desired hole inhandle bracket and reassemble bolt and

knob and tighten securely.3. Align opposite side of handle with

same positioning hole and secure withbolt and knob.

ENGINEENGINE SPEED

Your engine speed has been factory set.Do not attempt to increase engine speedor it may result in personal injury. If youbelieve that the engine is running too fastor too slow, take your lawn mower to aSears or other qualified service center forrepair and adjustment.

CARBURETOR

Your carburetor is not adjustable. If yourengine does not operate properly due tosuspected carburetor problems, take yourlawn mower to a Sears or other qualifiedservice center for repair or adjustment.IMPORTANT: Never tamper with theengine governor, which is factory setfor proper engine speed. Overspeedingthe engine above the factory high speedsetting can be dangerous. If you thinkthe engine-governed high speed needsadjusting, contact a Sears or otherqualified service center, which has properequipment and experience to make anynecessary adjustments.

Immediately prepare your lawn mower forstorage at the end of the season or if theunit will not be used for 30 days or more.

LAWN MOWER

When lawn mower is to be stored for a

period of time, clean it thoroughly, removeall dirt, grease, leaves, etc. Store in aclean, dry area.1. Clean entire lawn mower (See

"CLEANING" in the Maintenance sec-

tion of this manual).

2. Lubricate as shown in the Maintenancesection of this manual.

3. Be sure that all nuts, bolts, screws, andpins are securely fastened. Inspectmoving parts for damage, breakageand wear. Replace if necessary.

4. Touch up all rusted or chipped paintsurfaces; sand lightly before painting.

HANDLE

You can fold your mower handle for storage.16

1. Loosen the two (2) handle knobs onsides of the upper handle and allowhandle to fold down to the rear.

2. Remove the two (2) handle knobs andcarriage bolts on sides of the lowerhandle and pivot entire handle as-sembly forward and allow it to rest onmower.

3. Reinstall knobs and carriage bolts tolower handle or handle brackets for

safe keeping.• When setting up your handle from the

storage position, the lower handle willrequire manually locking into the mow-ing position.

IMPORTANT: When folding the handlefor storage or transportation, be sure tofold the handle as shown or you may dam-age the control cables.

Alcohol blended fuels (called gasohol orusing ethanol or methanol) can attractmoisture which leads to separation andformation of acids during storage. Acidicgas can damage the fuel system of anengine while in storage.

• Empty the fuel tank by starting the en-gine and letting it run until the fuel linesand carburetor are empty.

• Never use engine or carburetor cleanerproducts in the fuel tank or permanentdamage may occur.

• Use fresh fuel next season.

NOTE: Fuel stabilizer is an acceptablealternative in minimizing the formationof fuel gum deposits during storage.Add stabilizer to gasoline in fuel tank orstorage container. Always follow the mixratio found on stabilizer container. Run

engine at least 10 minutes after addingstabilizer to allow the stabilizer to reach

the carburetor. Do not empty the gas tankand carburetor if using fuel stabilizer.

IMPORTANT: It is important to preventgum deposits from forming in essentialfuel system parts such as carburetor, fuelfilter, fuel hose or tank during storage.

ENGINE OIL

Drain oil (with engine warm) and replacewith clean engine oil. (See "ENGINE" inthe Maintenance section of this manual).

CYLINDER

1. Remove spark plug.2. Pour one ounce of oil through spark

plug hole into cylinder.3. Pull starter handle slowly a few times

to distribute oil.

4. Replace with new spark plug.

OTHER

• Do not store gasoline from one seasonto another.

, Replace your gasoline can if your canstarts to rust. Rust and/or dirt in yourgasoline will cause problems.

• If possible, store your unit indoors andcover it to protect it from dust and dirt.

• Cover your unit with a suitable protec-tive cover that does not retain moisture.

Do not use plastic. Plastic cannotbreathe, which allows condensation toform and will cause your unit to rust,

IMPORTANT: Never cover mower while

engine and exhaust areas are still warm._I, CAUTION: Never store the lawn

mower with gasoline in the tank inside abuilding where fumes may reach an openflame or spark. Allow the engine to coolbefore storing in any enclosure.

* No opere la maquina sin zapatos o con san-dalias abiertas. P6ngase siempre zapatoss61idos.

* No tire de la segadora hacia atras a menosque sea absolutamente necesario. Miresiempre hacia abajo y hacia detras antes ymientras que se mueve hacia atras.

* Nunca dirigir el material descargado hacialas personas. Evitar descargar materialcontra paredes o barreras. El material puederetornar al operador. Para la cuchilla cuandose pasa por superficies de grava.

* No opere la segadora sin los respectivosresguardos, las placas, el recogedor decesped u otros aditamentos dise ados parasu protecci6n y seguridad.

* Refierase alas instrucciones del fabricantepara el funcionamiento e instalaci6n deaccesorios. Use Onicamente accesoriosaprobados por el fabricante.

* Detenga la cuchilla o las cuchillas cuandocruce por calzadas, caries o caminos degrava.

* Parar el motor cada vez que se abandona elaparato, antes de limpiar la segadora o deremover residuos del tubo.

* Apagar el motor y esperar hasta que lascuchillas esten completamente paradasantes de remover el receptor de hierba.

* Segar solamente con luz del dia o con unabuena luz artificial.

* No opere la maquina bajo la influencia delalcohol o de las drogas.

* Nunca opere la maquina cuando la hierbaeste mojada. AsegOrese siempre de tenerbuena tracci6n en sus pies; mantenga elmango firmemente y camine; nunca corra.

* Desconectar el mecanismo de propulsi6naut6noma o el embrague de transmisi6n enlas segadoras que Io tienen antes de poneren marcha el motor.

* Si el equipo empezara a vibrar de unamanera anormal, pare el motor y revise deinmediato para averiguar la causa. General-mente la vibraci6n suele indicar que existealguna averia.

Siempre use gafas de seguridad o anteojoscon protecci6n lateral cuando opere la sega-dora.

II. OPERAClON SOBRE LAS CUESTASLos accidentes ocurren con mas frecuencia enlas cuestas. Estos accidentes ocurren debido aresbaladas o caidas, las cuales pueden resultaren graves lesiones. Operar la recortadora encuestas requiere mayor concentraci6n. Si sesiente inseguro en una cuesta, no la recorte.HACER:

Puede recortar a traves de la superficie dela cuesta, nunca hacia arriba y hacia abajo.Proceda con extrema precauci6n cuandocambie de direcci6n en las cuestas.

* Renueva todos los objetos extra_os, talescomo guijarros, ramas, etc.Debe prestar atenci6n a hoyos, baches oprotuberancias. Recuerde que la hierba altapuede esconder obstaculos.

NO HACER:* No recorte cerca de pendientes, zanjas o

terraplenes. El operador puede perder latracci6n en los pies o el equilibrio.

* No recorte cuestas demasiado inclinadas.* No recorte en hierba mojada. La reducci6n

en la tracci6n de la pisada puede causarresbalones.

ill. NINOSSe pueden producir accidentes tragicos si eloperador no presta atenci6n a la presenciade los ni_os. A menudo, los niSos se sientenatraidos por la maquina y por la actividad dela siega. Nunca suponga que los ni_os van apermanecer en el mismo lugar donde los viopor L_ltimavez.* Mantenga a los ni_os alejados del area de

la siega y bajo el cuidado estricto de otrapersona adulta responsable.

* Este alerta y apague la maquina si hay nidosque entran al area.

IV. MANEJO SEGURO DE GASOLINAUsar mucha atenci6n cuando se maneja gaso-lina. La gasolina es extremamente inflamable ylos vapores son explosivos.* Apagar todos los cigarrillos, cigarros, pipas y

otras fuentes de ignici6n.* Usar solo un contenedor apropiado.* Nunca quitar el tap6n de la gasolina o a5adir

carburante con el motor en marcha. Esperarque el motor se enfrie antes de repostar lagasolina.

* Nunca guardar la maquina o el contenedorde gasolina donde hay una llama abierta,chispa o luz piloto como una caldera u otrosdispositivos.

* Nunca Ilenar contenedores en un vehiculo, enun cami6n o caravana con un forro de plastico.Colocar siempre los contenedores en el suelolejos de su vehiculo antes de Ilenar.

* Quitar equipos que funcionan con gasolinadel cami6n o caravana y repostar en elsuelo. Si esto no es posible, repostar dichoequipo con un contenedor portatil, mas bienque con una tobera de gasolina.

* Mantener la tobera en contacto con el bordodel dep6sito de carburante o de la aperturadel contenedor siempre hasta terminar elabastecimiento. No usar un dispositivo decierre-apertura de la tobera.

* Si el carburante cae en la ropa que se Ileva,cambiarsela inmediatamente.

* Nunca Ilenar en exceso el dep6sito decarburante. Colocar el tap6n de la gasolina yapretar de modo seguro.

V. SERVIClO* Nunca haga funcionar una maquina dentro

de un area cerrada.* Nunca haga ajustes o reparaciones mientras

el motor este en marcha. Desconecte elcable de la bujia, y mantengalo a ciertadistancia de esta para prevenir un arranqueaccidental.

* Mantenga las tuercas y los pernos, espe-cialmente los pernos del accesorio de lacuchilla, apretados y mantenga el equipo enbuenas condiciones.

* Nunca manipule de forma indebida losdispositivos de seguridad. Controle regular-mente su funcionamiento correcto.

, Mantenga la maquina libre de hierba, hojasu otras acumulaciones de desperdicio.Limpie los derrames de aceite o combustible.Permita que la maquina se enfrie antes dealmacenarla.

* Pare e inspeccione el equipo si le pega a unobjeto. Reparelo, si es necesario, antes dehacerlo arrancar.

* Las cuchillas de la segadora estan afiladasy pueden cortar. Cubrir las hojas o Ilevarguantes, y utilizar precauciones especialescuando se efectL_a mantenimiento sobre lasmismas.

* No cambie el ajuste del regulador del motorni exceda su velocidad.

* Mantener o sustituir las etiquetas deseguridad e instrucciones, cuando seanecesario.

Lea estas instrucciones y el manual completamente antes de tratar de montar u operar su segadora nueva.IMPORTANTE: Este cortacesped viene SIN ACEtTE O GASOLINA en el motor.Su segadora nueva ha sido montada en la fabrica con la excepci6n de aquellas partes que sedejaron sin montar por razones de envio. Todas las partes como las tuercas, las arandelas, los per-nos, etc., que son necesarias para completar el montaje han sido colocadas en la bolsa de partes.Para asegurarse que su segadora funcione en forma segura y adecuada, todas las partes y losarticulos de ferreteria que se monten tienen que ser apretados seguramente. COMO PREPARAR SU SEGADORAPARA DESDOBLAR EL MANGOIMPORTANTE: Despliegue el mango conmucho cuidado para no pellizcar o daSar loscables de control.1. Levante la secci6n del mango inferior hasta

la posici6n de operaci6n y alinee el agujeroen este con uno de los tres agujeros paradeterminar la altura en el puntal del mango.

2. lnserte el pemo del mango a traves de estey del puntal y asegQrelo con la manilla.

3. Repita el procedimiento para el ladoopuesto del mango.

4. Levante la secci6n del mango superiorhasta la posici6n de operaci6n, remueva lacuSa protectora y apriete las manillas delmango en forma segura.

NTROL DE ZONA DEL MOTORPRECAUCION: Las regulaciones federales

exigen que se instale un control para el motoren esta segadora para reducir a un minimo elriesgo de lesionarse debido al contacto con lacuchilla. Por ningOn motivo trate de eliminarla funci6n del control del operador. La cuchillagira cuando el motor esta funcionando.* Su segadora viene equipada con una barra

de controles que exigen la presencia deloperador, Io que requiere que el operadoreste detras del mango de la segadora parahacerla arrancar y operarla.

CONTROL DE LA IMPULSION* La autopropulsi6n se controla manteniendo

la palanca de mando operador presenteabajo hacia el mango y tirando la palanca deaccionamiento atras hacia el mango. Cuantomas lejos se tira la palanca hacia el mango,mas rapida ira la unidad.

* El movimiento hacia adelante se detienecuando sea la palanca de mando operadorpresente o la palanca de accionamiento sesueltan. Para detener el movimiento haciaadelante sin apagar el motor, soltar s61ola palanca de accionamiento. Mantener lapalanca de mando operador presente abajocontra el mango para continuar a cortar sinautopropulsi6n.

AVlSO: Si despues haber desenganchado de lapalanca de control, la segadora no roda haciaatras, empuje la segadora un poco hacia adelantepara desenganchar las ruedas de la impulsi6n.AJUSTE DEL MANDOOcasionalmente, el sistema de mando puede"aflojarse", provocando una disminuci6n de lavelocidad. Hay un torniquete en la parte traserade la sede del mando para apretar la tensi6ndel cable. Proceder de la siguiente manera:1. Apagar la unidad y desconectar el cable de

bujia de la bujia.2. Vuelta el tuerca en la parte inferior del

mando de transmisi6n para aumentar lavelocidad del mecanismo.

3. Opere la segadora para probar la velocidaddel mecanismo. Reajuste segOn Io requerido.

4. Si las condiciones no mejoran despuesde los pasos descritos (la velocidad haciaadelante queda la misma), la correa detransmisi6n esta desgastada y tiene que ser

mezclados con alcohol (conocidos comogasohol, o el uso de etanol o metanol) puedenatraer la humedad, la que conduce a laseparaci6n y formaci6n de acidos durante elalmacenamiento. La gasolina acidica puededaSar el sistema del combustible de un motordurante el almacenamiento. Para evitar losproblemas con el motor, se debe vaciar elsistema del combustible antes de guardarlopot un periodo de 30 dias o mas. el cebador tres (3) veces antes de tratarlo.Empuje firmemente. Este paso normal-mente no es necesario cuando se Racearrancar un motor que ya ha estado funcio-nando por unos cuantos minutos.

2. Sujete la barra de controles que exigen lapresencia del operador abajo en el mangoy tire el mango del arrancador rapidamente.No permita que el cord6n arrancador sedevuelva abruptamente.

AVlSO: En climas mas frios puede que seanecesario repetir los pasos del cebado. En cli-mas mas calurosos el cebar demasiado puedeproducir el ahogo y el motor no va a arrancar.Si se ahoga el motor espere unos cuantosminutos antes de tratar de hacerlo arrancar yno repita los pasos del cebado.

paja de la hoja en la segadora ya que estosaccesorios son peligrosos, pueden dafiar susegadora y anular su garanfia., Bajo ciertas condiciones, tal como cesped

muy alto, puede ser necesario el elevarla altura del corte para reducir el esfuerzonecesario para empujar la segadora y paraevitar sobrecargar el motor, dejando mort-tones de recortes de cesped. Puede que seanecesario reducir la velocidad del recorridoy/o haga funcionar la segadora sobre el areapor segunda vez.Para un corte muy pesado, reduzca el anchodel corte pasando parcialmente por encimadel lugar anteriormente cortado y sieguelentamente.

* Para un mejor ensacado del cesped y para lamayoria de las condiciones de corte, la velo-cidad del motor debe ajustarse a la posici6nde RA,PIDO.

* Los poros en los recogedores de cesped detela pueden Ilenarse con mugre y polvo conel uso y los recogedores recaudaran menoscesped. Para evitar este, rocie el recogedorcon la manguera de agua regularmente ydejelo secarse antes de usarlo.Mantenga la parte superior del motor, alred-edor del arrancador, despejada y sin recortesde cesped y paja. Esto ayudara el flujo delaire del motor y extendera su duraci6n.

La cuchilla acolchadora especial va a volvera cortar los recortes de cesped muchasveces, y los reduce en tamafio, de modo quesi se caen en el cesped se van a dispesarentre este y no se van a notar. Tambien, elcesped acolchado se va a deshacer rapidam-ente entregando substancias nutritivas parael cesped. Siempre acolche con la velocidaddel motor (cuchilla) mas alta, pues asi seobtendra la mejor acci6n de recorte de lascuchillas.

* Evite cortar el cesped cuando este mojado.El cesped mojado tiende a formar montonese interfiere con la acci6n de acolchado.La mejor hora para segar el cesped estemprano en la tarde. A esa hora este se hasecado y el area recien cortada no quedaraexpuesta al sol directo.

* Para obtener los mejores resultados, ajustela altura del corte de la segadora de modoque esta corte solamente el tercio superiorde las hojas de cesped. En el caso de que elcesped haya crecido demasiado, puede sernecesario el elevar la altura del corte parareducir el esfuerzo necesario para empujar lasegadora y para evitar sobrecargar el motor,dejando montones de recortes de cesped.Para un cesped muy pesado, reduzca el an-cho del corte pasando por encima del lugaranteriormente cortado y siegue lentamente.

Ciertos tipos de cesped y sus condicionespueden exigir que un area tenga que seracolchada por segunda vez para escondercompletamente los recortes. Cuando se hagael segundo corte, siegue atravesado (enforma perpendicular) a la pasada del primercorte.Cambie su patr6n de corte de semana asemana. Siegue de norte a sur una semanay luego cambie de este a oeste la pr6ximasemana. Esto evitara que el cesped seenrede y cambie de direcci6n.

3. Use un bloque de madera entre la cuchillay la caja de la segadora para evitar que lacuchilla gire cuando se le quite el perno.

AVlSO: Proteja sus manos con guantes y/oenvuelva la cuchilla con una tela gruesa.4. Remueva el perno de la cuchilla girandolo

en el sentido contrario en que giran lasmanillas del reloj.

5. Remueva la cuchilla y los arficulos de fer-reteria adjuntadores (el perno, la arandelade seguridad y la arandela endurecida).

AVlSO: Remueva el adaptador de la cuchilla yrevise el cubo interior de la ranura del adaptadorde la cuchilla. La ranura tiene que estar en buenascondiciones para que funcione en forma adec-uada. Cambie el adaptador siesta daSado.PARA CAMBtAR LA CUCHtLLA

1. Ponga el adaptador de la cuchilla en elcigueSal del motor. Aseg0rese que la ranuradel adaptador y que el chavetero del cigue-5al esten alineados.

2. Ponga la cuchilla en el adaptador de estaalineando los dos (2) agujeros en la cuchillacon las salientes elevadas en el adaptador.

3. Aseg0rese de que el borde de salida dela cuchilla (opuesto al borde afilado) estehacia arriba hacia el motor.

4. lnstale el pemo de la cuchilla con la aran-dela de seguridad y la arandela endurecidaen el adaptador de la cuchilla y el cigueSal.

5. Use un bloque de madera entre la cuchillay la caja de la segadora y apriete el pernode la cuchilla girandolo en el sentido en quegiran las manillas del reloj.

* La torsi6n para apretar recomendada es de35 - 40 pies libras.

IMPORTANTE: El perno de la cuchilla estratado a calo. Si es necesario sustituir lospernos, sustituirlos s61o con pernos aprobadosmostrados en la secci6n Partes de Reparaci6nde este manual.

PARAAFILAR LA CUCHtLLAAVISO: No recomendamos el afilar la cuchilla- pero si Io hace, aseg0rese de que quede bal-anceada. Una cuchilla que no esta balanceadava a producir eventualmente daSo en la sega-dora o en el motor.* La cuchilla puede afilarse con una lima o en

una rueda rectificadora. No trate de afilarlamientras se encuentra en la segadora.

* Para revisar el balance de la cuchilla, claveun clavo en una viga o en la pared. Dejealrededor de una pulgada de un clavo rectoexpuesto. Ponga el agujero central de lacuchilla sobre la cabeza del clavo. Si lacuchilla esta balanceada debe permaneceren la posici6n horizontal. Si cualquiera delos extremos de la cuchilla se mueve haciaabajo, afile el extremo pesado hasta queesta quede balanceada.

RECOGEDOR DE CleSPED* El recogedor de cesped puede ser rociado

con el agua de la manguera pero tiene queestar seco cuando se vaya a usar.

* Revise su recogedor de cesped a menudopara verificar si esta daSado o deteriorado.Se va a desgastar con el uso normal. Si senecesita cambiar el recogedor, cambielosolamente por uno que sea aprobado por elfabricante. De el n0mero del modelo de lasegadora cuando Io ordene.

CAJA DE ENGRANAJES* Para mantener el sistema de impulsi6n

funcionando en forma adecuada, la cajade engranajes y el area alrededor de laimpulsi6n tienen que mantenerse limpias ysin acumulaci6n de basura. Limpie debajode la cubierta de la impulsi6n dos veces portemporada.

, La caja de engranajes se Ilena con lubricantehasta el nivel adecuado en la fabrica. LaOnica vez que el lubricante necesita atenci6nes cuando se le ha prestado servicio a lacaja de engranajes.

, Si se necesita lubricante, use solamenteGrasa Texaco Starplex Premium 1, Parte No.750369. No use substitutos.

MOTORLUBRICACIONUse solamente aceite de detergente de alta call-dad clasificado con la clasificaci6n SG-SL de ser-vicio APt. Seleccione la calidad de viscosidad SAEsegOn su temperatura de operaci6n esperada.

CALIDADES DE VlSCOStDAD DE SAE

AVlSO: A pesar de que los aceites de multi-viscosidad (5W30, 10W30, etc.) mejoran elarranque en clima frio, estos aceites de mul-tiviscosidad van ha aumentar el consumo deaceite cuando se usan en temperaturas sobre32° F. Revise el nivel del aceite del motor mas amenudo, para evitar un posible dado en el mo-tor, debido a que no tiene suficiente aceite.Cambie el aceite despues de 25 horas deoperaci6n o por Io menos una vez al ado si lasegadora se utiliza menos 25 horas el ado.Revise el nivel del aceite del carter antes dearrancar el motor y despues de cada cinco (5)horas de uso continuado. Apriete el tap6n delaceite en forma segura cada vez que revise elnivel del aceite.PARA CAMBtAR EL ACEITE DEL MOTOR

AVlSO: Antes de inclinar la segadora para dre-nar el aceite, drene el tanque de combustiblehaciendo correr el motor hasta que el tanqueeste vacio.1. Desconecte el alambre de la bujia y

p6ngalo de modo que no pueda entrar encontacto con esta.

2. Remueva la tapa del dep6sito del aceite;dejela a un lado en una superficie limpia.

3. Incline la cortadora de cesped por estecostado tal como se muestra y purgue elaceite en un recipiente id6neo. Mueva lasegadora de atras para adelante para re-mover todo el aceite que se haya quedadoatrapado dentro del motor.

4. Limpie todo el aceite derramado en la sega-dora y en el lado del motor.

5. Echar aceite despacio en el conducto delaceite, parandose a intervalos regulares paracontrolar el nivel del aceite con la varilla.

6. Parar de adadir aceite cuando se alcanza lasedal de Ileno (FULL) en la varilla. Esperar unminuto para dejar que el aceite se arregle.

7. ContinQe agregando cantidades pequeasde aceite y vuelva a inspeccionar la varillamedidora settles del nivel de aciete en Ileno(FULL). NO sobrellene el motor con aceite,o fumara pesa demante del silenciadorcuando Io valla a arrancar.

8. AsegQrese de apretar la varilla medidoradel aceite antes de arrancar el motor.

9. Vuelva a conectarel alambre de la bujia a esta.FILTRO DE AIRESu motor puede sufrir averias y funcionar demanera incorrecta con un filtro del aire sucio.Sustituir el papel del cartucho una vez al adoo tras 100 horas de funcionamiento, mas amenudo si se utiliza en condiciones de sucie-dad y polvo particulares.PARA LIMPtAR EL FtLTRO DE AtRE

1. Suelte el tornillo e incline la cubierta pararemoverlo.

2. Cuidadosamente, remueva el cartucho.3. Limpielo golpeandolo suavemente en una

superficie plan& Si esta muy sucio cambieel cartucho.

LIMPIE DEBAJO DE LA CUBIERTA DE LAIMPULSIONLimpie debajo de la cubierta de la impulsi6npor Io menos dos veces cada temporada.Raspe debajo de la cubierta con un cuchillopara masilla o con una herramienta parecida,para remover toda acumulaci6n de cesped obasura en la parte inferior de la cubierta de laimpulsi6n.

_,ADVERTENCIA: Para evitar lesi6nes serias,antes de dar calquier servico o de hacer ajustes:1. Suelte la barra de control y pare el motor.2. AsegOrese que la cuchilla y que todas las partes

4. Quitar el conjunto de la palanca detransmisi6n del bastidor quitando la tuercahexagonal; luego quitar la correa de mandode la polea de mando, los dispositivos defijaci6n de la correa y el conjunto de lapalanca de transmisi6n.

5. Haga descansar la segadora en su lado.Aseg0rese que el filtro de aire y que elcarburador queden mirando hacia arriba.

6. Quitar el tornillo que fija la pantalla de losescombros. Noten que la pantalla de losescombros tiene una lengQeta que se intro-duce en un orificio del bastidor.

DESVIADOR TRASEROSe proporciona un desviador trasero, adjuntoentre las ruedas traseras de su segadora, parareducir a un minimo la posibilidad que objetossean lanzados hacia afuera de la parte traserade la segadora, en la posici6n en donde seencuentra el operador. Si se daSa el desviadordebe cambiarse.

PARA REMOVER LA CORREA DE IMPULSION1. Desconecte el alambre de la bujia y p6n-

galo en donde no pueda entrar en contacto Or_con esta.

2. Quitar los tornillos que sujetan la tapa delmando (no mostrado); y quitar la tapa delmando del bastidor del cortacesped.

3. Quitar el cable del mando de la ancla, luego Bordeseparar el cable y el resorte de vuelta delconjunto palanca de transmisi6n.

7. Fijar otra vez la pantalla de los escombrosal bastidor con la lengOeta de la pantallade los escombros se halle en el orificio delbastidor.

8. Ponga la cuchilla en el adaptador de estaalineando los dos (2) agujeros en la cuchillacon las salientes elevadas en el adaptador.

9. AsegOrese de que el borde de salida dela cuchilla (opuesto al borde afilado) estehacia arriba hacia el motor.

10. lnstale el perno de la cuchilla con la aran-dela de seguridad y la arandela endurecidaen el adaptador de la cuchilla y el ciguefial.

11. Use un bloque de madera entre la cuchillay la caja de la segadora y apriete el pernode la cuchilla girandolo en el sentido en quegiran las manillas del reloj.

La torsi6n para apretar recomendada es de35 - 40 pies libras.

15. Conectar el hilo de la bujia de encendido ala bujia de encendido.

PARA AJUSTAR EL MANGOEl mango de su segadora cuenta con tres (3)posiciones de altura - ajOstelo a la altura que leacomode.1. Remueva la manilla y el perno portador en

un lado del mango inferior.

2. AI mismo tiempo que sujeta el conjunto delmango, remueva la manilla y el perno porta-dor del lado opuesto, alinee el agujero en elmango con el agujero deseado en el puntaldel mango y vuelva a montar el perno y lamanilla y aprietelos en forma segura.

VELOCIDAD DEL MOTORLa velocidad del motor ha sido ajustada enla fabrica. No trate de aumentar la velocidaddel motor pues se pueden producir lesionespersonales. Si cree que el motor esta funcio-nando demasiado rapido o demasiado lento,Ileve su segadora amas con su centro deservicio Sears o con un otro centro de serviciocualificado.

CARBURADORSu carburador no es ajustable. Si su motor noesta funcionando en forma adecuada debidoa problemas que se sospecha vienen del carbu-rador, Ileve su segadora a contacto con su cen-tro de servicio Sears o con un otro centro deservicio cualificado para repararla y/o ajustarla.IMPORTANTE: Nunca manipule el reguladordel motor, el que ha sido ajustado en la fabricapara la velocidad del motor adecuada. Puedeser peligroso hacer funcionar el motor a unavelocidad por sobre el ajuste de alta velocidadde la fabrica. Si cree que la velocidad alta regu-lada del motor necesita ajuste, contacto con sucentro de servicio Sears o con un otro centrode servicio cualificado, el que cuenta con elequipo adecuado y la experiencia para hacerlos ajustes necesarios.

2. Remueva las dos (2) manillas y los pernosde cada lado del mango inferior y pivote elconjunto entero del mango hacia delante ypermita le que se descanse sobre la sega-dora.

3. Vuelva a poner las manillas y los pernos almango inferior o a los puntales del mangopara la seguridad.

Cuando prepare su mango a partir de laposici6n de almacenamiento, el mango infe-rior nesecitara cerrarlo manualmente para laposici6n de sega.

SISTEMA DE COMBUSTIBLEIMPORTANTE: Es importante evitar que seformen dep6sitos de goma en partes funda-mentales del sistema de combustible talescomo el carburador, el filtro del combustible,la manguera del combustible o en el estanquedurante el almacenamiento. Los combustiblesmezclados con alcohol (conocido como gasoholo que tienen etanol o metanol) pueden atraerhumedad, Io que conduce a la separacion y a laformacion de acidos durante el almacenamien-to. La gasolina acidica puede daSar el sistemade combustible de un motor durante el periodode almacenamiento., Vaciar el dep6sito del carburante poniendo

en marcha el motor y dejandolo funcionarhasta que el carburante termine y elcarburador este vacio.

, Nunca use los productos para limpieza delcarburador o del motor en el estanque decombustible pues se pueden producir daSospermanentes.

Siempre siga la proporci6n demezcla que se encuentra en el envase del esta-bilizador.
