Clean the enclosure only with a dry cloth or a vacuum cleaner.

You must allow 10 cm or 4 inches of unobstructed clearance aroundthe unit. Do not place the unit on a bed, sofa, rug, or similar surfacethat could block the ventilation slots. If the component is placed in abookcase or cabinet, there must be ventilation of the cabinet to allowproper cooling.

Keep the component away from radiators, heat registers, stoves, orany other appliance that produces heat.

The unit must be connected to a power supply only of the type andvoltage specified on the rear panel of the unit.

Connect the component to the power outlet only with the supplied powersupply cable or an exact equivalent. Do not modify the supplied cablein any way. Do not attempt to defeat grounding and/or polarizationprovisions. Do not use extension cords.

Do not route the power cord where it will be crushed, pinched, bentat severe angles, exposed to heat, or damaged in any way. Pay par-ticular attention to the power cord at the plug and where it exits theback of the unit.

The power cord should be unplugged from the wall outlet if the unit isto be left unused for a long period of time.

Immediately stop using the component and have it inspected and/orserviced by a qualified service agency if:

• The power supply cord or plug has been damaged.

• Objects have fallen or liquid has been spilled intothe unit.

• The unit has been exposed to rain.

• The unit shows signs of improper operation

• The unit has been dropped or damaged in anyway

Place the unit on a fixed, level surface strong enough to support itsweight. Do not place it on a moveable cart that could tip over.

Getting StartedThank you for purchasing the Rotel RMB-1048Eight-Channel Power Amplifier. When usedin a high-quality music or home theater sys-tem, your Rotel amplifier will provide yearsof musical enjoyment.

The RMB-1048 is a sophisticated eight-channelpower amplifier. Discrete output devices, amassive power supply with toroidal trans-former, premium components, and Rotel’sBalanced Design ensure superb sound qual-ity. High current capability allows theRMB-1048 to drive difficult speaker loads withease.

Operating Features

Save the RMB-1048 shipping carton andpacking material for future use. Shipping ormoving the RMB-1048 in anything other thanthe original packing material may result insevere damage to your amplifier.

Be sure to keep the original sales receipt. It isyour best record of the date of purchase, whichyou will need in the event warranty service isever required.

Placement

The RMB-1048 generates heat as part of itsnormal operation. The heat sinks and venti-lation openings in the amplifier are designedto dissipate this heat. The ventilation slots inthe top cover must be unobstructed. Thereshould be 10 cm (4 inches) of clearance aroundthe chassis, and reasonable airflow throughthe installation location, to prevent the amplifierfrom overheating. Likewise, remember theweight of the amplifier when you select aninstallation location. Make sure that the shelfor cabinet can support its weight.

AC Power and ControlAC Power Input

The RMB-1048 is supplied with the proper ACpower cord. Use only this cord or an exactequivalent. Do not use an extension cord. Aheavy duty multi-tap power outlet strip maybe used, but only if it is rated to handle thecurrent demand of the RMB-1048.

Be sure the Power Switch on the front panelof the RMB-1048 is turned off. Then, plug oneend of the cord into the AC power connector

on the back panel of the amplifier. Plugthe other end into an appropriate AC outlet.

Your RMB-1048 is configured at the factoryfor the proper AC line voltage in the countrywhere you purchased it (USA: 115 volts/60Hz , Europe: 230 volts/50 Hz). The AC lineconfiguration is noted on a label on the backpanel.

NOTE: Should you move your RMB-1048to another country, it is possible to config-ure your amplifier for use on a differentline voltage. Do not attempt to perform thisconversion yourself. Opening the enclosureof the RMB-1048 exposes you to danger-ous voltages. Consult a qualified technicianor the Rotel factory service department forinformation.

If you are going to be away from home foran extended period of time, it is a sensibleprecaution to unplug your amplifier.

Power Switch andIndicator

The Power Switch is located on the front panel.To turn the amplifier on (or to activate eitherof the optional automatic power-on modes),push the switch in. The LED indicator abovethe switch will light, indicating that the am-plifier is turned on. To turn the amplifier off,push the button again and return it to the outposition.

Turn On/Off Mode Selector

The RMB-1048 can be turned on and offautomatically by using its “12V Trigger” sys-tem. The Turn On/Off Mode Selector switchis used to select which method is used.

• With the switch in the OFF position, theamplifier is turned on or off manually us-ing the front panel power switch.

• With the switch in the 12V TRIG. position,the amplifier is turned on automaticallywhen a 12 volt trigger signal is appliedto the 3.5mm Jack labeled IN. The frontpanel POWER SWITCH overrides this func-tion. It must be ON for the +12V triggerto work. Turning the switch OFF cuts powerto the amplifier, regardless of whether ornot a trigger signal is present.

+12V Trigger Inputand Output

The jack labeled IN is for connecting the 3.5mmPlug/Cable carrying a +12 volt trigger sig-nal to turn the amplifier on and off. To usethis feature the adjacent slide switch must beset in the 12V TRIG position (see previous sec-tion). This input accepts any control signal (ACor DC) ranging from 3 volts to 30 volts.

The jack labeled OUT is for connecting an-other 3.5mm plug/cable to provide a 12Vtrigger signal to other components. The 12Voutput signal is available whenever a +12 volttrigger signal is applied to the IN connector.

Protection Indicators Thermal and protection circuits protect the am-plifier against potential damage in the eventof extreme or faulty operating conditions.Unlike many designs, the RMB-1048’s protec-tion circuit is independent of the audio sig-nal and has no impact on sonic performance.Instead, the protection circuit monitors thetemperature of the output devices and shutsdown the amplifier if safe limits are exceeded.

In addition, the RMB-1048 includes overcurrentprotection which operates only when load im-pedances drop too low. This protection is in-dependent for each of the four pair of chan-nels with separate front panel PROTECTIONLEDS for each.

Should a faulty condition arise, the amplifierwill stop playing and one or more of the PRO-TECTION LEDS on the front panel will light.

If this happens, turn the amplifier off, let it cooldown for several minutes, and attempt to iden-tify and correct the problem. When you turnthe amplifier back on, the protection circuitwill automatically reset and the PROTECTIONLEDS should go out.

In most cases, the protection circuitry activatesbecause of a fault condition such as shortedspeaker wires, or inadequate ventilation lead-ing to an overheating condition. In very rarecases, highly reactive or extremely low imped-ance speaker loads could cause the protec-tion circuit to engage.

Input Signal Connections See Figure 2

The RMB-1048 has standard unbalanced RCA-type input connectors, the type used on nearlyall audio equipment. There are two RCA in-puts for each of the four pair of amplifierchannels. These RCA inputs accept audio sig-nals from preamplifiers or surround soundprocessors. Use high quality audio intercon-nect cables for best performance.

Input Signal Link Switches

The input signal to the “A” channels to bepassed on to one or more of the other sets ofchannels by using the input signal LINKswitches. When the “B”, “C” and/or “D” chan-nels have their Input Signal Link Switches setto the LINK position, they receive the samesignal as the “A” channels. When theseswitches are set to the STEREO position thecorresponding channel receive their signalsfrom the normal inputs.

Signal Output LinkConnectors

The input signal that goes to the “A” inputs isalso passed on the Signal Output Link con-nectors. This can be used to provide an inputsignal to another audio component. For ex-ample, it can be used to “daisy-chain” anotheramplifier to drive additional speakers.

Input Level Controls Four controls on the front panel, one for eachpair of amplifier channels, provide input leveladjustments. These allow you to adjust the gainof the amplifiers to match other componentsin an elaborate system.

Use a small flat blade screwdriver to turn thecontrol clockwise to increase gain. Turn thecontrol counterclockwise to reduce gain.

SpeakersThe RMB-1048 has four groups of speaker con-nectors, one for each pair of amplifier chan-nels.

Speaker Selection

The nominal impedance of the loudspeaker(s)connected to each chanel of the RMB-1048in the various operating modes should be nolower than minimum 4 ohms

Speaker Wire Selection

Use insulated two-conductor stranded wire toconnect the RMB-1048 to the speakers. Thesize and quality of the wire can have an au-dible effect on the performance of the system.Standard speaker wire will work, but can re-sult in lower output or diminished bass re-sponse, particularly over longer distances. Ingeneral, heavier wire will improve the sound.For best performance, you may want to con-sider special high-quality speaker cables. Yourauthorized Rotel dealer can help in the selectionof appropriate cables for your system.

Polarity and Phasing

The polarity – the positive/negative orienta-tion of the connections – for every speaker andamplifier connection must be consistent so allthe speakers will be in phase. If the polarityof one connection is mistakenly reversed, bassoutput will be very weak and stereo imagingdegraded. All wire is marked so you can iden-tify the two conductors. There may be ribs ora stripe on the insulation of one conductor.The wire may have clear insulation with dif-ferent color conductors (copper and silver).There may be polarity indications printed onthe insulation. Identify the positive and negativeconductors and be consistent with everyspeaker and amplifier connection.

Speaker Connections

See Figure 2

The RMB-1048 has two pair of color codedconnections for each group of amplifier chan-nels. Labels above the connectors show theproper connections for connecting speakers.These speaker connectors accept bare wire,connector lugs, or “banana” type connectors(except in the European Community countrieswhere their use is not permitted).

Route the wires from the RMB-1048 to thespeakers. Give yourself enough slack so youcan move the components to allow access tothe speaker connectors.

If you are using banana plugs, connect themto the wires and then plug into the backs ofthe speaker connectors. The collars of thespeaker connectors should be screwed in allthe way (clockwise).

If you are using terminal lugs, connect themto the wires. If you are attaching bare wiresdirectly to the speaker connectors, separatethe wire conductors and strip back the insu-lation from the end of each conductor. Be care-ful not to cut into the wire strands. Unscrew(turn counterclockwise) the speaker connec-tor collar. Place the connector lug around theshaft, or insert the bundled wire into the holein the shaft. Turn the collars clockwise to clampthe connector lug or wire firmly in place.

NOTE: Be sure there are no loose wirestrands that could touch adjacent wires orconnectors.

TroubleshootingMost difficulties in audio systems are the re-sult of poor or wrong connections, or impropercontrol settings. If you encounter problems,isolate the area of the difficulty, check thecontrol settings, determine the cause of the faultand make the necessary changes. If you areunable to get sound from the RMB-1048, re-fer to the suggestions for the following con-ditions:

Front Panel Power Indicator IsNot Lit

No main power to the RMB-1048. Check ACpower connections at the amplifier and the ACoutlet. Check the front panel power switch.Make sure that it is set to the ON position. Ifusing signal sensing auto power-on, make surethat a signal is present at the inputs. If using12V trigger power-on, make sure that a trig-ger signal is present at rear panel screw ter-minals.

No Sound

If the amp is getting AC power, but is producingno sound, check the PROTECTION INDICA-TORS on the front panel. If lit, see below. Ifnot, check all of your connections and con-trol settings on associated components. Makesure that your input connections and speakerconnections match your selected stereo/monoconfiguration.

Protection Indicator Is Lit

The front panel PROTECTION INDICATORSlight when the RMB-1048 protection circuitshave shut off the amplifier. Typically, this oc-curs only when the ventilation openings areblocked, when there is faulty speaker wiring,or after a period of extreme use. Turn off thesystem and wait for the amp to cool. Then pushthe front panel power switch in and out to resetthe protection devices. If the problem is notcorrected or reoccurs, there is a problem withthe system or the amplifier itself.

Le RMB-1048 est un amplificateur de puissancehuit canaux particulièrement sophistiqué. Installation

Le RMB-1048 dégage une certaine quantité dechaleur pendant son fonctionnement. C’estpourquoi il possède un radiateur de refroidis-sement interne et des ouïes de ventilation. Nebloquez donc pas ses ouïes supérieures derefroidissement. Il doit y avoir environ 10 cmde dégagement tout autour lui pour permettrele bon fonctionnement de sa ventilation, et unebonne circulation d’air tout autour du meublequi le supporte. N’oubliez pas non plus, lorsde son installation, qu’il s’agit d’un appareillourd. L’étagère ou le support utilisés doiventêtre suffisamment robustes et rigides.

Alimentation secteur etmise sous tensionPrise d’alimentation secteur

Le RMB-1048 est livré avec son propre câbled’alimentation secteur. N’utilisez que ce câble,ou sont équivalent exactement semblable.N’utilisez pas de câble rallonge. Une prise oubarrette multiple peut être utilisée, maisuniquement si elle est capable de supporterl’ampérage demandé par le RMB-1048.

Assurez-vous que l’interrupteur de mise soustension Power Switch, en face avant, est bienen position “ éteint ” (OFF). Branchez alorsle cordon secteur en face arrière sur la priserepérée POWER CONNECTOR , puisl’autre extrémité dans la prise muraled’alimentation.

Votre RMB-1048 a été configuré en usine pourla tension d’alimentation secteur du pays pourlequel il est prévu (115 volts/60 Hz ou 230volts/50 Hz). Cette valeur est indiquée sur uneétiquette, en face arrière.

Interrupteur de mise soustension et indicateur

L’interrupteur de mise sous tension powerSwitch se trouve sur la face avant. Il suffitd’appuyer dessus pour mettre l’amplificateursous tension (ou pour rendre actives une desoptions de mise en marche automatique). Ladiode placée juste au-dessus s’allume alors.Une nouvelle pression sur l’interrupteur éteintl’appareil.

Sélecteur de mise soustension On/Off

Le RMB-1048 peut etre mis en ou hors ten-sion automatiquement en utilisant ledéclenchement par commutation « trigger »12 volts. Le sélecteur de mise sous tension On/Off permet de choisir le mode de mise en ouhors tension.

• Avec le sélecteur en position « OFF »,l’amplificateur est éteint ou allumémanuellement, via l’interrupteur de sa faceavant.

• Avec le sélecteur en position « 12 V TRIG »,l’amplificateur s’allume automatiquementlorsqu’un signal de commutation 12 voltsest présent est appliqué sur la prise jackrepérée « IN ». L’interrupteur POWER dela face avant intervient en amont de cettepossibilité : il doit être en position « ON »pour que la commutation 12 volts triggerpuisse fonctionner. Placer cet interrupteursur sa position OFF a pour effet d’éteindrel’amplificateur, quelle que soit la positiondu sélecteur de mise sous tension On/Off.

Entrée et sortie « + 12 VTrigger »

La prise jack repérée « IN » permet debrancher une prise 3,5 mm transportant unetension de commutation 12 volts afin d’allumerou d’éteindre l’amplificateur. Pour utiliser cettefonction, le sélecteur placé à coté doit etrepositionné sur « 12 V TRIG » (voir leparagraphe précédent). Cette prise accepten’importe quel signal de commutation (cou-rant continu ou alternatif), dont la tension estcomprise entre 3 et 30 volts.

La prise repérée OUT permet de brancher uneautre prise jack 3,5 mm pour renvoyer la ten-sion de commutation 12 volts vers un autreappareil. La tension 12 volts n’est toutefoisprésente que si la prise IN est réellementalimentée par une telle tension.

Indicateurs de protection Le RMB-1048 possède des circuits de protectionélectrique et thermique internes, qui leprotègent contre tout dommage éventuel dûà des conditions de fonctionnement anormalesou extrêmes. Contrairement à la majorité desautres amplificateurs de puissance, ce circuitest totalement indépendant du trajet du sig-nal audio, et n’a donc aucune influence surles performances musicales. Ce circuit contrôleaussi en permanence la température des étagesde sortie, et coupe automatiquementl’amplificateur si celle-ci dépasse une valeurnormale.

De plus, le RMB-1048 intègre une protectioncontre les surcharges qui se met en service sil’impédance de charge en sortie devient tropbasse. Cette protection est indépendante pourchaque paire de canaux, d’où la présence deplusieurs diodes en façade, repérées PROTEC-TION.

Dans la plupart des cas, la mise en servicede la protection est due à un court-circuit dansles câbles des enceintes acoustiques, ou à caused’un mauvais respect de la ventilation correctede l’amplificateur. Dans de très rares cas, lacharge à très faible impédance ou très réactivede certaines enceintes acoustiques peutentraîner la mise en service de la protection.

Le RMB-1048 possède des prises d’entrée detype asymétrique par fiches RCA, celles làmême qui sont le plus couramment utiliséessur tous les appareils audio. Il y a deux prisesd’entrée RCA pour chacune des quatre pairesdes canaux d’amplification. Ces prises RCAacceptent les signaux en provenance depréamplificateurs ou de processeurs Surround.N’utilisez que des cables de liaison audio dehautes performances pour garantir les meilleursrésultats possibles.

Commutateurs de liaisonentre les signaux d’entrée« Link »

Le signal d’entrée sur les canaux repérés « A »peut être envoyé sur un ou plusieurs des autrescanaux, grâce aux commutateurs de renvoidu signal repérés « LINK ». Lorsque les canauxrepérés « B », « C » et/ou « D » ont leurscommutateurs de renvoi Link respectivementpositionnés sur la position repérée « LINK »,ils recevront le même signal que les canaux« A ». Lorsque ces commutateurs sont placéssur leur position repérée « STEREO », ilsrecoivent alors les signaux d’entrée à partirde leurs prises d’entrée RCA respectives.

Prises de sortie avec renvoidu signal « Link Output »

Le signal d’entrée envoyé sur les entréesrepérées « A » est également renvoyé sur lesprises de sortie repérées « Output Link ». Celapermet de renvoyer ce signal d’entrée vers unautre maillon. Par exemple, on pourra ainsialimenter un autre amplificateur de puissanceexterne pour une paire d’enceints acoustiquesadditionnelles (dans un type de liaisoncouramment appelé « daisy-chain »).

Contrôles du niveaud’entrée Ces contrôles placés en face avant, à raisond’un par paire de canaux d’amplification,permet de régler le gain en entrée pour cettemême paire. Cela permet d’équilibrer le niveausonore de tous les composants, même dansles installations les plus complexes.

Utilisez un tournevis à lame étroite pour tournerces réglages : pour augmenter le niveau dansle sens des aiguilles d’une montre, et dans lesens inverse pour diminuer le niveau.

Enceintes acoustiquesLe RMB-1048 possède quatre groupes deprises pour enceintes acoustiques, chaquegroupe pour une paire d’enceintes. Chaquegroupe peut être utilisé pour brancher deuxenceintes acoustiques en mode Stéréo, ou uneseule enceinte en mode Mono ponté (bridgé).

Choix des enceintes

L'impédance nominale de chaque enceintebranchée sur le RMB-1048, quel que soit lemode de fonctionnement, ne doit jamais êtreinférieure à 4 ohms.

Choix de la sectiondu câble d’enceintes

Utilisez du câble deux conducteurs isolés pourrelier le RMB-1048 aux enceintes. La taille etla qualité du câble peuvent avoir de l’influencesur les performances musicales. Un câble stan-dard fonctionnera, mais il peut présenter deslimitations quant à la dynamique réellementreproduite ou à la qualité du grave, surtoutsur de grandes longueurs. En général, un câblede plus fort diamètre entraîne une améliorationdu son. Pour des performances optimales,penchez-vous sur l’offre en terme de câblesde très haute qualité. Votre revendeur agrééRotel est en mesure de vous renseignerefficacement à ce sujet.

Polarité et mise en phase

La polarité – autrement dit l’orientation correctedu “ + ” et du “ – ” pour chaque branchemententre le RMB-1048 et les enceintes acoustiquesdoit être respectée pour toutes les enceintes,afin que celles-ci soient toutes en phase. Sila phase d’une seule enceinte est inversée, ilen résultera un manque de grave sensible etune dégradation importante de l’imagestéréophonique. Tous les câbles sont repérésafin que vous puissiez identifier clairement leursdeux conducteurs. Soit les câbles sont différents(un cuivré, un argenté), soit la gaine est decouleur différente (filet de couleur), soit elleest gravée. Assurez-vous que vous repérez bienle conducteur pour toutes les liaisons, et quevous respectez parfaitement la phase sur toutesles enceintes acoustiques, par rapport àl’entrée.

Branchements desenceintes acoustiques

Le RMB-1048 possède deux paires de bornesde branchement repérées par code de couleur,pour chaque groupe de canauxd’amplification. Les inscriptions présentes prèsde ces prises indiquent les connexions correctesà effectuer pour brancher les enceintesacoustiques. Ces bornes de branchementacceptent indifféremment du cable dénudé,des fourches ou des fiches type banane (saufpour les modèles vendus dans la CommunautéEuropéenne, où ce type de prise est désormaisinterdit).

Tirez le câble de l’amplificateur RMB-1048vers les enceintes acoustiques. Prévoyezsuffisamment de longueur pour qu’il ne subisseaucune contrainte sur toute sa longueur et quevous puissiez déplacer les éléments sans qu’ilsoit tendu.

Si vous utilisez des fourches, insérez-les à fonddans le logement offert par les prises et serrezfermement. Si vous utilisez du fil nu, dénudeztous les câbles sur une longueur suffisante, ettorsadez les brins de chaque conducteur detelle manière qu’aucun brin ne puisse veniren contact avec un autre d’un autre conducteur(court-circuit). Suivant la taille des torsades,insérez-les dans les trous centraux des prisesou entourez-le autour des axes de celles-ci (sensdes aiguilles d’une montre). Dans tous les cas,serrez fermement à la main les bornesvissantes.

NOTE : Vérifiez bien qu’il n’y ait aucunbrin qui vienne en contact avec des brinsou la prise adjacente.

Problèmes defonctionnementLa majorité des problèmes survenant dans uneinstallation haute fidélité est due à de mauvaisbranchements, ou à une mauvaise utilisationd’un ou de plusieurs maillons. Si le problèmeest bien lié au RMB-1048, il s’agit trèscertainement d’un mauvais branchement. Voiciquelques vérifications de base qui résolventla majorité des problèmes rencontrés :

L’indicateur Power de misesous tension ne s’allume pas

L’amplificateur RMB-1048 n’est pas alimentépar le secteur. Vérifiez la position del’interrupteur de mise sous tension Power (po-sition ON). Si vous avez choisi l’option de misesous tension par présence d’un signal à l’entréeSIGNAL SENSING, assurez-vous qu’un telsignal est bien présent ! Idem pour la posi-tion 12 V TRIG., ou une tension de commu-tation doit bien être présente sur la prise jackcorrespondante.

Pas de son

Si l’amplificateur est bien sous tension maisqu’aucun son n’en sort, regardez les diodesPROTECTION sur la face avant. Si elles sontallumées, voir le paragraphe suivant. Si ellessont éteintes, vérifiez tous les maillons dusystème, la qualité des branchements et laposition des diverses commandes (sélecteurmono/stéréo notamment).

Diode de protection allumée

Le circuit de protection PROTECTION A, B et/ou C est entré en fonctionnement et la diodede protection correspondante s’est allumée.Cela arrive principalement quand les ouïesd’aération ont été obstruées, quand il y a uncourt-circuit dans les sorties enceintes, ou sil’amplificateur a fonctionné très longtemps àpuissance maximum. Éteignez l’amplificateuret attendez qu’il refroidisse. Le fait d’appuyerà nouveau sur l’interrupteur de mise sous ten-sion pour rallumer l’appareil entraînera laréinitialisation automatique des circuits deprotection. Si la protection se remet àfonctionner, il y a un problème dans le systèmeou l’amplificateur lui-même.

Aufstellung des Gerätes

Die RMB-1048 erwärmt sich während desBetriebes. Diese Wärme kann unter normalenBedingungen über die Kühlbleche undVentilationsöffnungen der Endstufe problemlosabgeführt werden. Jedoch ist das Gerät aneinem Ort aufzustellen, an dem eineausreichende Luftzirkulation gewährleistet ist.So dürfen die Ventilationsöffnungen an derOberseite nicht verdeckt werden. Um dasGehäuse sollte ein Freiraum von 10 cmbestehen.

Berücksichtigen Sie beim Aufbau das Gewichtder Endstufe. Stellen Sie sicher, dass das Re-gal oder der Schrank auf das vergleichsweisehohe Gewicht der RMB-1048 ausgelegt ist.

Netzspannung undBedienungNetzeingang

Die RMB-1048 wird mit dem passendenNetzkabel geliefert. Verwenden Sie nur diesesoder ein vergleichbares Kabel. Nutzen Sie keinVerlängerungskabel. Eine hochbelastbareMehrfachsteckdose kann eingesetzt werden,wenn sie (ebenso wie die Wandsteckdose)ausreichende Strommengen für die RMB-1048sowie die anderen an sie angeschlossenenKomponenten liefern kann.

Stellen Sie sicher, dass die RMB-1048 vor demAnschließen an das Netz abgeschaltet ist, sichder Netzschalter also in der AUS-Positionbefindet. Verbinden Sie nun das Netzkabelmit dem Netzeingang am Gerät. Stecken Siedas andere Ende in eine Wandsteckdose.

Ihre RMB-1048 wird von Rotel so eingestellt,dass sie der in Ihrem Land üblichenWechselspannung (Europa: 230 Volt/50 Hz,USA: 115 Volt/60 Hz) entspricht. DieEinstellung ist an der Geräterückseiteangegeben.

HINWEIS: Sollten Sie mit Ihrer RMB-1048in ein anderes Land umziehen, kann dieEinstellung der Endstufe geändert werden,so dass sie mit einer anderen Netz-spannung betrieben werden kann.Versuchen Sie auf keinen Fall, dieseÄnderung selber vorzunehmen. Netzschalter undPOWER-LED

Der Netzschalter ist in die Gerätefront derRMB-1048 integriert. Drücken Sie ihn, um dieEndstufe einzuschalten. Die POWER-LED überdem Schalter beginnt zu leuchten und zeigtan, dass die Endstufe eingeschaltet ist. DrückenSie zum Ausschalten der Endstufe erneut denNetzschalter.

Schalter zum Ein-/Ausschaltender automatischenSignalerfassung

Die RMB-1048 verfügt an der Rückseite übereinen Schalter, über den Sie zwischen zweiverschiedenen Modi wählen können:

• Befindet sich der Schalter in derOFF-Position, wird die Endstufe manuellüber den Netzschalter an der Gerätefrontein- und ausgeschaltet.

• Befindet sich der Schalter in der12V TRIG.-Position, wird die Endstufeautomatisch eingeschaltet, wenn an der3,5-mm- und mit IN gekennzeichnetenBuchse ein 12-V-Triggersignal anliegt.Diese Funktion kann nur genutzt werden,wenn der Netzschalter an der Gerätefrontvorher eingeschaltet wurde.

12-V-Triggerein- und -aus-gang

An die mit IN gekennzeichnete Anschlussbuchsekann zum Ein- und Ausschalten der Endstufeein Anschlusskabel mit 3,5-mm-Klinkensteckernzur Übertragung eines 12-Volt-Triggersignalsangeschlossen werden. Dazu ist der obenbeschriebene schiebeschalter in die 12V TRIG-Position zu setzen (siehe Abschnitt oben). DieserEingang reagiert auf Gleich- oderWechselspannungssignale von 3 bis 30 Volt.

An die mit OUT gekennzeichnete Buchse kannein weiteres Anschlusskabel mit 3,5-mm-Klinkensteckern angeschlossen werden, überdas ein 12-V-Triggersignal zu anderenKomponenten geleitet werden kann. Das 12-V-Ausgangssignal ist verfügbar, sobald ein 12-V-Triggersignal an der mit IN gekennzeichnetenBuchse anliegt.

Protection-LEDs Die RMB-1048 verfügt über Schutzschaltkreise,durch die die Endstufe vor möglichen Schädendurch extreme oder fehlerhafteBetriebsbedingungen geschützt wird.

Die thermische Schutzschaltung der RMB-1048ist im Gegensatz zu vielen anderenKonstruktionen unabhängig vom Audiosignalund beeinflusst den Klang nicht. Statt dessenüberwacht sie die Temperatur an denLeistungstransistoren und schaltet die Endstufeab, sobald bestimmte Temperaturgrenzenüberschritten werden.

Darüber hinaus ist ein Überstromschutz in dieRMB-1048 integriert, der nur dann anspricht,wenn die Lastimpedanz zu stark abnimmt.Dieser Überstromschutz ist für jedes der vierVerstärkerkanalpaare getrennt ausgeführt. Ander Gerätefront befinden sich vier mit PRO-TECTION gekennzeichnete LEDs.

Sollte es zu einer Störung kommen, schaltetsich die Endstufe ab, und die entsprechende(n)PROTECTION-LED(s) an der Gerätefrontbeginnt(beginnen) zu leuchten.

Schalten Sie die Endstufe aus und lassen Siesie einige Minuten abkühlen. Versuchen Sie,den Grund für die Störung herauszufinden undzu beheben. Beim erneuten Einschalten derEndstufe setzt sich die Schutzschaltungautomatisch zurück, und die LED(s)erlischt(erlischen).

In den meisten Fällen wird die Schutzschaltungdurch eine Fehlfunktion, wie z.B. durch kurz-geschlossene Lautsprecherkabel oder eineunzureichende Belüftung, die schließlich zueiner Überhitzung führt, aktiviert. In sehr sel-tenen Fällen können Lautsprecher mit einerextrem niedrigen Impedanz die Schutz-schaltung aktivieren.

Signalanschlüsse Siehe Abbildung 2

Die RMB-1048 verfügt über Cinch-Eingänge,wie sie an jedem hochwertigen Audiogerät zufinden sind. Für jedes Verstärkerkanalpaar gibtes zwei Cinch-Eingänge. An diese Cinch-Ein-gänge können Vorverstärker oder Surround-Prozessoren angeschlossen werden. Verwen-den Sie hochwertige Verbindungskabel, um eineoptimale Klangqualität zu gewährleisten.

Eingangssignalschalter

Das Eingangssignal der mit „A“gekennzeichneten Kanäle kann an die mit „B“,„C“ und „D“ gekennzeichneten Kanäleweitergegeben werden. Dazu ist jeweils dermit LINK gekennzeichnete Schiebeschalter indie LINK-Position zu setzen. Setzen Sie einenoder mehrere Schalter in die STEREO-Position,erhalten die jeweiligen Kanäle ihre Signalevon den zugehörigen Eingängen.

Signal Output Link

Das an den mit „A“ gekennzeichneten Eingän-gen anliegende Signal wird an die SIGNALOUTPUT LINK-Anschlüsse weitergeleitet. Überdiese beiden Cinch-Ausgänge können dieEingangssignale unverändert zu einer ande-ren Audiokomponente gesendet werden. Aufdiese Weise kann z.B. eine zusätzliche End-stufe zum Betrieb zusätzlicher Lautsprecherangeschlossen werden.

Eingangspegelregler Über die vier an der Gerätefront befindlichenRegler (pro Verstärkerkanalpaar einer) könnendie Eingangspegel eingestellt und auf dieseWeise den Anforderungen des Systemsangepasst werden.

Drehen Sie die Regler mit einem kleinenSchlitzschraubendreher im Uhrzeigersinn, umden Pegel zu erhöhen und gegen denUhrzeigersinn, um den Pegel zu senken.

LautsprecherDie RMB-1048 verfügt über vier Gruppen vonLautsprecheranschlussklemmen, eine Gruppefür jedes Verstärkerkanalpaar.

Auswahl der Lautsprecher

Die nominale Impedanz des(der) an dieRMB-1048 angeschlossenen Lautsprechers(Lautsprecher) sollte in den verschiedenenBetriebsmodi nicht unter 4 Ohm liegen (Mini-mum).

Auswahl derLautsprecherkabel

Verbinden Sie die RMB-1048 und dieLautsprecher über ein isoliertes, zweiadrigesLautsprecherkabel. Aufbau und Qualität desKabels können hörbare Effekte auf dieMusikwiedergabe haben. Standard-„Klingeldraht“ wird funktionieren, jedochkönnen vor allem bei größeren KabellängenLeistungsverluste und eine ungleichmäßigeWiedergabe des Frequenzspektrums dasErgebnis sein. Allgemein gilt, dass Kabel mitgrößerem Querschnitt eine verbesserteWiedergabequalität gewährleisten. Fürhöchste Wiedergabequalität sollten Sie dieBenutzung von speziellen, hochwertigenLautsprecherkabeln erwägen. Ihr autorisierterRotel-Fachhändler wird Ihnen bei der Auswahldieser Lautsprecherkabel gerne weiterhelfen.

Polarität und Phasenabgleich

Die Polarität – die positive/negativeAusrichtung der Anschlüsse – muss für jedeLautsprecher -/Vers tärker verbindungphasengleich sein. Wird die Polarität einerVerbindung irrtümlicherweise umgekehrt, führtdies zu einem unausgewogenen Klangbild mitschwachen Bässen.

Die Kabel sind zur Identifizierunggekennzeichnet. So kann die Isolationsschichteines Leiters gerippt oder ein Leiter mit einemStreifen markiert sein. Das Kabel kannverschiedenfarbige Leiter (Kupfer und Silber)besitzen und von einer transparentenIsolationsschicht umgeben sein. Bei anderenKabeln wird die Polaritätsangabe auf dieIsolationsschicht gedruckt. Unterscheiden Siezwischen positiven und negativen Leitern undachten Sie beim Anschluss an Lautsprecher undVerstärker auf die gleiche Polung.

Anschließen derLautsprecher

Siehe Abbildung 2

Für jede Verstärkerkanalgruppe verfügt dieRMB-1048 an der Rückseite über zwei Paarfarbig gekennzeichnete Schraubklemmen. DerKennzeichnung oberhalb der Schraubklemmenkönnen Sie entnehmen, wie die Lautsprecheranzuschließen sind. An diese Klemmen kön-nen blanke Drähte oder Kabelschuhe ange-schlossen werden.

Führen Sie die Kabel von der RMB-1048 zuden Lautsprechern. Lassen Sie sich genügendRaum, damit Sie die Komponenten bewegenkönnen und so einen freien Zugang zu denLautsprechern sicherstellen.

Bei der Verwendung von Kabelschuhen ver-binden Sie diese mit den Kabeln, stecken dieKabelschuhe hinten unter die Schraubklemmenund drehen die Klemmen im Uhrzeigersinn fest.

Sollten die Lautsprecherkabel direkt (ohneKabelschuhe) an die Lautsprecherklemmenangeschlossen werden, so entfernen Sie anden Kabelenden ca. 15 mm der Isolation. LösenSie die Klemmen durch Drehen gegen denUhrzeigersinn. Verdrillen Sie die blankenKabelenden, um ein Zerfasern zu vermeiden,und stecken Sie das verdrillte Kabel hinter dieSchraubklemmen. Anschließend drehen Siedie Schraubklemmen im Uhrzeigersinn fest.

HINWEIS: Achten Sie bitte darauf, dassdie blanken Kabelenden vollständig an denKlemmen untergebracht sind und somit dasBerühren benachbarter Drähte oderAnschlüsse ausgeschlossen ist.

Bei StörungenTritt eine scheinbare Fehlfunktion auf, solltenzuerst die nachstehend aufgeführten Punkteüberprüft werden. Viele Probleme beruhen aufeinfachen Bedienungsfehlern oder fehlerhaftenAnschlüssen. Lässt sich das Problem nichtbeheben, wenden Sie sich bitte an Ihrenautorisierten Rotel-Fachhändler.

Die POWER-LED leuchtet nicht

Die RMB-1048 bekommt keinen Strom. PrüfenSie, ob der Netzschalter an der Gerätefrontgedrückt wurde. Prüfen Sie die Netzanschlüssean der Endstufe und der Wandsteckdose. Istdie 12-V-Triggerfunktion aktiviert, so stellenSie sicher, dass an den Anschlussbuchsen einTriggersignal anliegt.

Kein Ton

Die RMB-1048 bekommt Strom und trotzdemist kein Ton zu hören. Sehen Sie nach, ob diePROTECTION-LED(s) an der Gerätefrontleuchtet(leuchten). Wenn ja, lesen Sie denAbschnitt unten. Leuchtet(Leuchten) sie nicht,prüfen Sie alle Verbindungen und die Einstel-lungen der angeschlossenen Komponenten.

Protection-LED(s)leuchtet(leuchten)

Die PROTECTION-LEDs an der Gerätefrontleuchten, wenn die Schutzschaltkreise der RMB-1048 reagieren. Dies kommt in der Regel nurvor, wenn beispielsweise die Ventilations-öffnungen verdeckt sind, die Verkabelung zuden Lautsprechern nicht ordnungsgemäß istusw. Schalten Sie die Endstufe aus und war-ten Sie, bis sie sich abgekühlt hat. Posizionamento

Il RMB-1048 genera il calore come risultatodel suo normale funzionamento. I dissipatoridi calore e le aperture di ventilazione sonostate progettate per disperdere il calore. I foridi ventilazione del coperchio non devonoessere ostruiti. Lasciate almeno 10 cm di spaziolibero attorno all’apparecchio, e assicurate unragionevole flusso dell’aria nella locazionedell’installazione per prevenire ilsurriscaldamento dell’amplificatore. Alimentazione AC eControlloIngresso Alimentazione AC

Il RMB-1048 è dotato anche del cavo perl’alimentazione AC. Utilizzate solamente ilcavo in dotazione o l’esatto equivalente. Nonusate prolunghe. Si può utilizzare una presamultipla, ma soltanto se corrisponde alconsumo di corrente del RMB-1048.

Assicuratevi che il Commutatore Power sulpanello frontale del RMB-1048 sia in posizioneoff. Poi, inserite un estremità del cavo nelconnettore AC 11 situato sul panello posterioredell’amplificatore. Inserire l’altra estremità delcavo in una presa di corrente AC adatta.

Il vostro RMB-1048 è stato configurato infabbrica per la tensione di linea AC del paesedove l’avete acquistato (USA: 115volt/60 Hz,Europa: 230volt/50 Hz). La configurazionedi linea AC è riportata sull’etichetta sul panelloposteriore.

NOTA: Nel caso dovreste trasportare eusare il vostro RMB-1048 in un altro paese,esiste la possibilità di configurarlo per l’usoad una tensione di linea diversa. Nonprovate a realizzare da soli questaconversione. L’apertura del RMB-1048 viespone a tensioni pericolose. Rivolgetevi adun tecnico qualificato o al Servizio ClientiRotel per informazioni.

In caso di lunghe assenze da casa, èconsigliabile staccare la spina di corrente delvostro amplificatore.

Tasto Power e Indicatore

Il tasto Power si trova sul panello frontale. Peraccendere l’amplificatore (o di attivare unadelle modalità opzionali di accensioneautomatica), premere il rispettivo tasto. Il LEDindicatore sopra il tasto s’illumina, indicandoche l’amplificatore è acceso. Per spegnerel’amplificatore, premere nuovamente il tastoche ritorna nella posizione iniziale.

Selettore Modalità On/Off

Il RMB-1048 può essere attivato e disattivatoautomaticamente usando il suo sistema “Trigger12 V”. Il Selettore Modalità On/Off è utilizzatoper scegliere quale metodo verrà usato.

• Con l’interruttore nella posizione OFF,l’amplificatore viene acceso o spentomanualmente utilizzando il tasto power sulpanello frontale.

• Con l’interruttore nella posizione 12 V TRIG,l’amplificatore è attivato automaticamentequando viene applicato un segnale trig-ger a 12 volt al jack di 3.5mm,contrassegnato IN. Il TASTO POWER sulpanello frontale bypassa questa funzione.Deve essere in posizione ON perché iltrigger +12 V funzioni. Mettendo il tastoin posizione OFF, toglie l’alimentazioneall’amplificatore indipendentemente dallapresenza di un segnale trigger.

Ingresso e UscitaTrigger +12V

Il jack contrassegnato IN serve per laconnessione della Spina/Cavo contenente unsegnale trigger +12 V, utilizzato perl’accensione/spegnimento dell’amplificatore.Per utilizzare questa funzione, l’interruttoreadiacente deve essere posto nella posizione12V TRIG (vedi la sezione precedente).Quest’ingresso accetta ogni tipo di segnaledi controllo (AC o DC), in una gamma da 3volt a 30 volt.

Il jack contrassegnato OUT serve per laconnessione di un’altra spina/cavo da 3.5mm,utilizzato per fornire il segnale trigger 12 Vagli altri componenti. Il segnale a 12 V in uscitaè disponibile ogni volta che viene applicatoun segnale trigger +12V al connettore IN.

Indicatori di protezione

I circuiti di protezione e termici, proteggonol’amplificatore contro un potenzialedanneggiamento dall’unità in caso dicondizioni estreme o difettose difunzionamento. Diverso dagli altri progetti,il circuito di protezione del RMB-1048 èindipendente dal segnale audio e non hanessun impatto sulla prestazione sonora. Ilcircuito di protezione ha il compito dimonitorare la temperatura dei componenti inuscita e di disattivare l’amplificatore sevengono superati i limiti di sicurezza.

In aggiunta, il RMB-1048 include unaprotezione di sovraccarico che funzionasoltanto quando le impedenze di caricoscendono troppo in basso. Questo tipo diprotezione è indipendente per ognuna dellequattro coppie di canali, con LED DIPROTEZIONE sul panello frontale separati perogni coppia.

Nel caso di una condizione di difetto,l’amplificatore interrompe la riproduzione euno o più LED DI PROTEZIONE sul panellofrontale si illumineranno.

Se ciò accade, spegnete l’amplificatore,lasciatelo raffreddare per qualche minuto, ecercate di identificare e risolvere il problema.

Quando riaccendete l’amplificatore, il circuitodi protezione si resetterà automaticamente edi LED DI PROTEZIONE si spegneranno.

Nella maggior parte dei casi, i circuiti diprotezione si attivano quando i cavi deidif fusori vengono cortocircuitati, o siverifica una condizione di ventilazioneinadeguata che porta ad uno stato disurriscaldamentodell’apparecchio. Molto dirado succede che l’attivazione del circuitodi protezione sia causata dall’impedenzaaltamente reattiva o estremamente bassadei diffusori.

Collegamenti del segnaleIngresso Vedi Figura 2.

Il RMB-1048 è dotato di connettori in ingressonon bilanciati standard tipo RCA, il tipoutilizzato per quasi tutto l’equipaggiamentoaudio. Esistono due ingressi RCA per ognunadelle quattro coppie dei canali amplificatore.Questi ingressi RCA accettano segnali audioda preamplificatori o processori surround.Usate solamente cavi di interconnessione audiodi alta qualità per ottenere la migliore per-formance.

Commutatore Link di Segnalein Ingresso

Il segnale in ingresso per i canali “A” deveessere inviato ad una o più serie di canaliutilizzando i commutatori LINK per il segnalein ingresso. Quando i canali “B”, “C” e/o “D”hanno i loro Commutatori Link di SegnaliIngresso impostati nelle posizione LINK, lororiceveranno lo stesso segnale come i canali“A. Quando questi commutatori sono postinella posizione STEREO, il canalecorrispondente riceve i loro segnali dagliingressi normali.

Connettori Link di Segnale inUscita

Il segnale in ingresso che va agli ingressi “A”viene mandato anche ai Connettori Link diSegnale in Uscita. Tale funzione può essereusata per fornire un segnale in ingresso adun altro componente audio. Per esempio, puòessere utilizzato per “aggiungere” un altroamplificatore per pilotare i diffusoriaddizionali.

Controlli livello Ingresso Esistono quattro controlli sul panello frontale,uno per ogni coppia di canali amplificati,cheprovvedono alla regolazione del livello iningresso. Questi vi permettono di regolare ilguadagno degli amplificatori in modo darendere più omogeneo il sistema in caso dinecessità.

Usate un cacciavite a punta piatta per girareil controllo in senso orario in modo daaumentare il guadagno. Girate il controllo insenso antiorario per ridurre il guadagno.

DiffusoriIl RMB-1048 è dotato di quattro gruppi diconnettori diffusori, uno per ogni coppia dicanali dell’amplificatore.

Selezione Diffusori

L’impedenza nominale dei diffusori collegatiad ogni canale del RMB-1048 nelle variemodalità di funzionamento, non dovrebbescendere sotto i 4 ohm.

Scelta dei Cavi per Diffusori

Utilizzate solo cavi isolati a due conduttori percollegare il RMB-1048 ai dif fusori. Ledimensioni e la qualità dei cavi hanno un effettonotevole sulla prestazione dell’intero sistema.I cavi standard funzionano benissimo, mapossono ridurre l’uscita o diminuire la rispostadei bassi, in particolare se coprono distanzepiù lunghe. In genere, i cavi più pesantimiglioreranno il suono. Per migliori prestazioni,dovrete prendere in considerazione cavispeciali di alta qualità per il collegamento deidiffusori. Il vostro rivenditore autorizzato Rotelsarà ben lieto di consigliarvi nella scelta deicavi adatti per il vostro sistema.

Polarità e fase

La polarità – l’orientamento positivo/negativodelle connessioni - per ogni collegamento trai diffusori e l’amplificatore, deve essere correttain modo che tutti i diffusori siano in fase. Sela polarità di una connessione viene invertitaper sbaglio, l’uscita dei bassi sarà molto debolee la resa musicale sarà degradata. Tutti i cavisono marcati in modo da poter identificarefacilmente i due conduttori.

Si possono trovare delle nervature o striscesu un conduttore. Il cavo potrebbe avere ilmateriale isolante trasparente con i conduttoridi diversi colori (rame e argento). L’indicazionidella polarità possono essere riportate sulmateriale isolante. Identificate i conduttoripositivo e negativo e manteneteli in ognicollegamento dei diffusori e dell’amplificatore.

Collegamento Diffusori

Il RMB-1048 dispone di due coppie ciconnessioni colorate per ogni gruppo di canalidell’amplificatore. L’etichette sopra i connettoriinformano sui collegamenti corretti da fare perla connessione dei diffusori. Questi connettoridei diffusori accettano tutti i tipi di connettoriin ingresso; a filo scoperto, a baionetta, abanana (eccetto nei paesi della ComunitàEuropea dove il loro uso è stato vietato).

Disponete i cavi partendo dal RMB fino aidiffusori. Lasciate abbastanza cavo di riservain modo da permettere l’accesso ai connettoridei diffusori.

Se utilizzate i connettori a banana, collegateliprima ai conduttori e poi inseritegli neiconnettori dei diffusori. I collari dei connettoridiffusori devono essere avvitati al massimo (insenso orario).

Se utilizzate terminali a baionetta, collegateliai conduttori. Se collegate fili scoperti aiconnettori dei diffusori, separate i fili conduttorie togliete l’isolante da ogni estremità delconduttore. Fatte attenzione a non tagliare ifili. Svitate (ruotate in senso antiorario) il collaredei connettori dei diffusore. Posizionare labaionetta attorno all’asse, o inserire i filiscoperti nel foro dell’asse. Ruotate i collari insenso orario per bloccare i fili o la baionetta.

NOTA: Assicuratevi che non ci sono filiscoperti che potrebbero toccare i caviadiacenti o i connettori.

Guida alla Soluzione deiProblemiLe maggiori difficoltà nei sistemi audio sonoil risultato di collegamenti indigenti o errati,o di impropri impostazioni di controllo. Seriscontrate dei problemi, isolate l’area delladifficoltà, verificate le impostazioni di controllo,determinate la causa del difetto e realizzatei cambiamenti necessari. L’Indicatore Power sul PanelloFrontale non è acceso

Non c’è l’alimentazione principale del RMB-1048. Controllate i collegamenti dialimentazione AC e la presa AC. Controllateil tasto power sul panello frontale. Assicurateviche sia posto nella posizione ON. Se usate ilsegnale di accensione automatica, verificatese il segnale è presente agli ingressi rispettivi.Se usate l’accensione trigger 12 V, verificatese il segnale trigger è presente ai terminalisul panello posteriore.

Audio non presente

Se l’amplificatore riceve la corrente AC, manon produce nessun suono, controllate gliINDICATORI DI PROTEZIONE sul panellofrontale. Se sono accesi, vedi in seguito. Seno, controllate tutti i collegamenti e leimpostazioni di controllo dei componentiassociati. Assicuratevi che le connessioni iningresso e i collegamenti dei diffusoricorrispondono alla configurazione stereo/mono scelta.

L’Indicatore di Protezione èacceso

Gli INDICATORI DI PROTEZIONE sul panellofrontale s’illuminano quando i circuiti diprotezione del RMB-1048 hanno spentol’amplificatore. Di norma, questo succedequando le aperture di ventilazione sonoostruite, quando è presente un collegamentodifettoso dei diffusori, oppure dopo un periodod’utilizzo intenso. Disattivare il sistema easpettate il raffreddamento dell’amplificatore.Premere poi, in successione, il tasto power sulpanello frontale per ressettare i dispositivi diprotezione. Se il problema non viene risoltooppure riappare, esiste un problema conl’intero sistema o con l’amplificatore stesso.
