THE PROPOSAL

• The detailed plan

• Mapping out the details of your research, business project

• Consists of five major parts

INTRODUCTION

• Give reader background, history of topic

• What’s the problem? Is there one?

• Show why your work is important!

TITLE

• Bold, center title

• No more than 2 lines

OBJECTIVES

• Write a short sentence like “The goals of this project are”

• What are the objectives you want to reach?

• Are they strong? Why are you proposing?

• You can have just one goal, no need to have more than 3 (be brief in technical writing!)

CONTENTS

• “In order to achieve the goals presented in this proposal, the following titles will be discussed”…

• Headings• Just main headings or the inclusion of both main headings and sub-

headings• Main headings can be treated as chapters for your project• Any changes – table of contents should be altered

• If I wanted to do a study for the Ministry of Tourism in Jordan

• Record of Attendance (Main Heading)• Petra (Subheading)• Aqaba• The Dead Sea

• Making your own proposal

• You will be assuming the position of a researcher for the Ministry of Transport

• You will propose a project to investigate ways to improve traffic safety in Jordan.

• Get into groups and discuss what you might include in your proposal (what kind of information would you put in the introduction? What subtopics will you talk about?)
