VISIT OUR WEBSITE ON www.millparkhtsps.vic.edu.au EMAIL: [email protected] Hello to our Community Week 5 brings us to the end of February with students comfortably settling into their learning spaces and programs. Classroom routines have been set and protocols are in place to ensure the values are being addressed. I must highlight the outstanding attitude of the MPHPS students who greet me with such beautiful smiles and well wishes whenever I walk past. The respectful culture is one that I have immediately noticed and I commend parents and staff on having such high expectations of their children and students. Last week we held our first Parent Volunteer Information Session. It was a terrific opportunity to meet some of our families and to be able to harness their interests and generosity of time. Parents who have attended this session will be given first priority for school volunteer requests. It is vital that we offer an Induction for any volunteers and ensure that Child Safe documents have been signed and that the Working With Children Check process is addressed. Privacy and confidentiality are key parts of the discussion and it is our aim to ensure that there is a strict sense of protocol and common understanding amongst all people who work within our school. I have since been contacted by other parents who were unable to make the session and invite any interested Volunteers to attend a second session on Wednesday 11 th March at 2:30pm in the Staff Room. If you attended the first session you do not need to attend again. Finally I would like to highlight our amazing Validation Day. Our Leadership team along with Challenge Partners and Department of Education representatives spent a day unpacking and celebrating the past four years of Mill Park Heights’ achievements. By considering the past we were able to propose future goals, targets and directions that will further support the MPHPS journey into best practice. The result has been the first draft development of our 2020 – 2023 Strategic Plan. This document will ensure a positive and sustainable change that will build on student outcomes, student voice and teacher capacity. This is a very exciting time for the school and is one I have been privileged to attend. I wish you all a fabulous week... Clean Up Australia Day

is this Sunday, the 1st March 2020. At Mill Park Heights Primary School we are going to have our Clean Up Australia Day this Friday, the 28th February. It’s a chance for all of us to make sure that our school is free from rubbish and looks it’s best. So we’d like you to head out at some stage during the day with your teacher and pick up any rubbish that you see lying around. There are also groups in your area that are cleaning up parks and streets this Sunday. If you’re interested in helping out then just look up the Whittlesea Council’s website for details about how you can join in to keep our beautiful country clean. Remember….. A clean school is a good school!

CLEVER STUDENTS…...

On Tuesday, after school at Oshcare, Chase E (2A) and Chase P (2E) made these designs out of Lego. It said ‘I love Roukaya’. Roukaya is the Oshcare leader at MPHPS. She was very grateful for the students message and was very impressed with their great design. Roukaya is an asset to our Oshcare team.

Carlton Football Club Visit: We had the pleasure of hosting four Carlton players last Friday, Hugh Goddard (no.45), Mitch McGovern (11), Josh Honey (36) and Charlie Curnow (30). Our students were very entertained with a Q & A session, as well as interacting with the players, with some skills and drills. The players spoke about life as an AFL footballer and the core values needed to become an AFL player. Student Achievements: We love to celebrate all the sporting achievements that our students achieve during the year. If you would like to share any special moments, please email the school with ‘Attention PE Team’ to have them published in the Pindari.

Actively Yours, P.E Team

- ArtSpace - Year 4 Students from Year 4 have enthusiastically embraced our first Art Project for the year. This term we are exploring, researching and creating individual artworks based on the works of the American painter, printmaker and sculptor James Rizzi. Students are learning to draw in his style and are using a 6B pencil, oil pastel and watercolour paints to produce their James Rizzi inspired creation. Individual goals have been chosen by each student for this Art Project and students are working hard to achieve their goals. Please look out over the next couple of weeks for a James Rizzi display in the corridors near the Visual Arts Room. Until next time …
