The disciples on the road to Emmaus walked and talked

with Jesus all day long, but it was not until they offered

Him hospitality and He blessed and broke the bread

that they recognized Him. Simple acts of loving kind-

ness still reveal the presence of God in our midst.

PASTOR’S CORNER

POPE FRANCIS’ INTENTIONS FOR

APRIL 2017

Young People That young people may respond generously to their vocations

and seriously consider offering themselves to God in the

priesthood or consecrated life.

Welcome one and all to the celebration of Holy Mass on the 3rd Sunday of Easter here at

Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church. We are delighted that you are here celebrating

with us.

Things don't seem to change, even after 2000 years. The two disciples on their way to

Emmaus were downcast. They were sad because they didn't seem to be able to comprehend

what was happening. When Jesus asked them what they were discussing as they walked

along they replied, "Are you the only visitor to Jerusalem who doesn't know what has

happened?" Certainly these two travelers couldn't figure it out.

How did Jesus calm their fears and answer their questions? First, He rebuked them. "Oh,

how foolish you are. How slow of heart to believe all the prophets spoke." Then Jesus

interpreted for them all the prophecies that referred to Him. They still didn't understand

what had happened, but when He broke the bread, they knew this man was Jesus the Christ.

He had to be Jesus. Who else could interpret all of the scriptures? Jesus was saying, in

effect, "Don't worry about all the fuss and bother. I am the Christ and I am with you and

will always be with you." Jesus wasn't only speaking to the two travelers. He was speaking

to each of us. He was speaking to everyone who has doubts that His Church is forever. He

is indicating that no matter what happens, He, Jesus, is always with us and with His

Church.

The Risen Lord opened the minds and hearts of the two disciples on the road to Emmaus.

He explained the Scriptures to them. And they recognized Him in the breaking of the bread.

The experience that they had is the very same experience we have whenever we come to

Mass. At Mass, we have the Scriptures explained to us and we share in the Eucharist.

May God bless your week.
