Welcome: The Redemptorist Community and Pastoral

Staff of the Redemptorist Renewal Center extends a warm and loving welcome to all who come here to pray and worship in our church. We are a community that welcomes all people as brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ. Together we are the body of Christ, living and active today.

Page 2: Our Lady of the Desert Churchdesertrenewal.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/Bulletin-07052020-1.pdfOur Lady of the Desert Dear Church Family, Covid ± 19 and Masses. Here we are once

Our Lady of the Desert Dear Church Family,

Covid – 19 and Masses. Here we are once again, public indoor Masses having been

suspended, out of safety for our Church community, the Redemptorist Renewal Center,

and all of our sisters and brothers. If any one of us were to sit down and list all the

feelings that the present Covid – 19 situation brings up in us, the list would be a mile

long. In fact, doing so would be an excellent idea. It could help us to identify and

recognize the feelings we have toward this dreaded virus and how it has altered our dai-

ly lives and our spiritual lives. Some have had their lives cut short due to the virus. Let’s stay strong and try to be

patient. (I say to myself, “is that even possible?”) Possible, yes. Easy, no. We are reminded that we are part of a

much larger world and local community and need to have concern and care for one another. Please do not stop

praying for those directly affected by Covid-19 and the Bighorn fires. Pray for the hundreds of firefighters and for

the front-line health and emergency workers, all of whom are making great sacrifices in the face of fire and

contagion, to keep us safe. God bless them all! They are all true heroes, and our country and world needs heroes.

We continue to offer an online weekend Mass. Each weekend I will send an email alert that the Mass has been

posted on YouTube. If you subscribe (it’s free) to our YouTube Channel, you will automatically get it in your email.

Stewardship. Our Church community has been through a lot physically, spir itually, emotionally and

financially. We must take good care of ourselves and our families as we are being stretched thin in all these

dimensions. Write or call if we can be of help with the first three areas, please. “Generosity” is the “middle name”

of our Church community family! For your convenience, know that you may come during office hours to personally

offer your stewardship, or mail it in, or use the following link and specify your donation. Click here: Stewardship

Multicultural Event Postponed. I know that last week we just announced the upcoming Multicultural Event

for September 27. The administration of the Redemptorist Renewal Center and coordination team have had to

postpone the event. We will let you know when will be able to host this wonderful and much needed gathering.

4th of July Holiday. Our office will be closed on Saturday,

July 4. Try to spend some time praying, reflecting and

discussing what July 4th actually means for us, living in a

blessed land of ethnically diverse communities. So, what are

we really celebrating when we break out the red, white, and

blue? Justice and freedom for all? All Americans do not enjoy

freedom and justice to the same degree. Let’s reconsider the

meaning of freedom and immigration and racial justice. As a

first born of immigrants, I think about it quite a bit. First

Nations indigenous peoples were here WAY before the USA

ever started. That’s why they are called “First Nation”. You

and I are called to spread love, peace and inclusion. As I wrote

last week, I am not the first to say it; Jesus is. “All will know by this that you are my disciples—if you have love

for one another.” (John 13:35). Enjoy your families!

Prayer for Independence Day

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

We lift up our hearts, O God,

on this day of celebration in gratitude

for the gift of being Americans.

We rejoice with all those who share

in the great dream of freedom

and dignity for all.

With flags and feasting,

with family and friends

we salute those who have sacrificed

that we might have the opportunity

to bring to fulfillment

our many God-given gifts.

As we deny all prejudice

a place in our hearts,

may we also clearly declare

our intention to work for the time

when all people,

regardless of race, religion, or sex,

will be granted equal dignity

and worth.

Come, O gracious God,

who led your children Israel from slavery,

keep us free from all

that might hold us in bondage.

Bless our country and join

our simple celebration that we may praise you,

our Source of freedom,

the One in whom we place our trust.

~ Fr. Ed Hays – A Pilgrim’s Almanac, p. 111

God of Heaven and Earth, you created the one human family

and endowed each person with great dignity.

Aid us, we pray, in overcoming the sin of racism. Grant us your grace in eliminating this blight

from our hearts, our communities, our social and civil institutions.

Fill our hearts with love for you and our neighbor so that we may work with you

in healing our land from racial injustice. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,

who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, for ever and ever.

Our mission is to be a place where the contemplative spirit of the human person may be discovered, fed and nourished. It is a place, an oasis in the Sonoran Desert, where Individuals encounter God and “feel the burn” of the Holy Spirit.
