Welcome: The Redemptorist Community and Pastoral
Staff of the Redemptorist Renewal Center extends a warm and loving welcome to all who come here to pray and worship in our church. We are a community that welcomes all people as brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ. Together we are the body of Christ, living and active today.
Our Lady of the Desert Dear Church family,
Pentecost. We celebrate the coming of the Holy Spir it of God, star ting with that
Upper Room where Mary and Apostles were, all locked in, out of fear. The Spirit of
God filled them with an intense love that gives courage and overcomes fear and
hesitation. The Holy Spirit is a balm that heals and gives courage along with wisdom,
understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety and a healthy fear of the Lord.
There are all gifts from God that will help us during these confusing and trying times of Covid – 19. As we take
the first steps toward reopening our church in a limited way for public Masses, let us keep in mind how
powerful the Holy Spirit is in the lives of those of us who are patient and wait. I am happy that this weekend, on
the great Solemnity of Pentecost, we come together. May the pandemic and its spread lessen each day as we
faithfully pay attention to and follow protocols. May our Easter joy grow!
I offer you this nice Pentecost prayer, by Sr. Joyce, Rupp, Servite. From her work, Prayer Seeds.
Spirit! Power and Passion of my being,
press upon my heart your profound love.
Move through the fragments of my days;
enable me to sense your fiery Presence
consecrating my most insignificant moments.
Spirit! Source of Vision, Perceptive Guide,
permeate the moments of my choices
when falsehood and truth both call to me.
Turn me toward the way of goodness,
so that I will always lean toward your love.
Spirit! Blessing for the heart grown weary,
encircle me with your loving energy,
empower me with your active gentleness.
Deepen within me a faith in your dynamism
which strengthens the weak and the tired.
Spirit! Breath of Life, Touch of Mystery,
you are the ribbon of inner connection,
uniting me with the groaning of all creation.
Because of you, my life gathers into a oneness.
Keep me attentive to this interdependence.
Fill my being with constant compassion
and a deep hope that knows no bounds.
Spirit! Dwelling Place, Sanctuary of Silence,
you are the home for which I deeply yearn.
You are the resting place for which I long.
I find both comfort and challenge in you.
Grant that I may keep my whole self open
to the transforming power of your indwelling,
that I may ever know the blessings
of your tremendous companionship.
Fr. Ed Vella, C.Ss.R.
Give praise to God that we are able to reopen! We must allow a maximum
capacity of 97 chairs in our church, approximately 1/3 of full capacity. When
we reach capacity, we will have to request that persons return for the next
Mass.
Points of importance:
Illness. If you are ill, regardless of age, please shelter in place and worship
from home. Online Mass: https://www.youtube.com/c/OurLadyoftheDesertChurch
Risk. Please understand clear ly that there is an inherent r isk, regardless
of age or health, in attending any public event, including religious services,
especially for those who are vulnerable of age or health. While we are
working to reduce the risk, there are no risk-free situations. A person’s
presence at Mass constitutes his or her understanding and acceptance of
this essential level of risk. This is very important. Reflect well on this.
Wear a face mask! This is a requirement for all persons who will be
present for weekend Masses at Our Lady of the Desert. The use of a face
mask is a sign of our desire to do our part in helping to prevent others from
possible infection. Please do not try to come to Mass without wearing a face
mask.
Distancing. While on Renewal Center proper ty, all persons must maintain
strict social distancing protocols; this entails maintaining approximately 6
feet of space between unrelated persons indoors as well as outdoors.
Hope. Following the protocols is definitely a discipline. It is also a sign of
hope for better times to come. Give thanks to God that we are moving
forward!!
