Sharing God’s Blessings Annual Appeal ~ 2019

This year’s Appeal, Sharing God’s Blessings, is a perfect opportunity for us to reflect on God’s generosity to us and to share the blessings we have been given with those around us. This year, our parish goal is as follows:

Parish Goal 201Parish Goal 201Parish Goal 201Parish Goal 2019999: : : : $2$2$2$25555,,,,161161161161

We are often reminded by our Holy Father Pope Francis and Sacred Scripture that in order to love one another we must share the blessings which God has provided to us.

We are called to similarly share what is granted to us by God and return it to Him so that not one of our brothers and sisters goes without: without the gift of faith; without the essential human needs; and without a personal relationship with Our Lord. We are called to Share God’s Blessings, and when we do, we find freedom and joy in proclaiming the Resurrection of the Lord Jesus, just as the Apostles did over 2,000 years ago! Will you join your brothers and sisters in Sharing God’s Blessings? May God bless you for your generosity!

We appreciate all OLMC parishioners who volunteered on August 10 at The Vincent United Methodist Church Care Kitchen. It was a great turnout and we plan on doing it again in October. Details to follow.

Parish Membership D Why is it Important?

In order for the parish to keep accurate records, please notify the parish office of any changes in your address or phone number. All adult Catholics should be registered in a parish. In order for us to testify to your ability for sponsorship in Baptism, Confirmation or witness to a Catholic marriage, it is necessary to be a registered member of this parish. To register, fill out the form below and place in the collection basket.

A Time to Relax

Summertime is a time to relax. During this leisure time, would you be willing to go through your closets to get rid of all those unwanted heavy winter clothes and shoes which served you so well during the winter season? Please donate them to the Catholic Charities donation bin located on the Church grounds. Thank you for helping Catholic Charities continue its mission.

U.S. Bishops’ President and Committee Chairman Say Horrific Death of Father and

Daughter at Border and Appalling Conditions for Children are Cries that Reach Heaven Itself

June 26, 2019

WASHINGTON – The cry of a father and his baby daughter who drowned crossing the Rio Grande reaches heaven itself. This unspeakable consequence of a failed immigration system, together with growing reports

of inhumane conditions for children in the custody of the federal government at the border, shock the conscience and demand immediate action. Cardinal Daniel N. DiNardo, President of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, joins Bishop Joe S. Vásquez of Austin, Chairman of the USCCB Committee on Migration, in calling on the federal government to hear the cry of the poor and vulnerable.

Their joint statement follows:

“We join with our Holy Father Pope Francis in immense sadness, having seen the horrific images of Oscar Martinez and his daughter Angie Valeria who drowned in the Rio Grande Valley while attempting to flee persecution and enter the United States. This image cries to heaven for justice. This image silences politics. Who can look on this picture and not see the results of the failures of all of us to find a humane and just solution to the immigration crisis? Sadly, this picture shows the daily plight of our brothers and sisters. Not only does their cry reach heaven. It reaches us. And it must now reach our federal government.

All people, regardless of their country of origin or legal status, are made in the image of God and should be treated with dignity and respect. Recent reports of overcrowded and unsanitary conditions are appalling and unacceptable for any person in U.S. custody, but particularly for children, who are uniquely vulnerable. Such conditions cannot be used as tools of deterrence. We can and must remain a country that provides refuge for children and families fleeing violence, persecution, and acute poverty.

Congress has a duty to provide additional funding to address the needs of children in federal custody. Their supplemental appropriations bill should also increase protections for immigrant children, including heightened standards and oversight for border facilities. It is possible and necessary to care for the safety of migrant children and the security of our citizens. By putting aside partisan interests, a nation as great as ours is able to do both.”
