From the Desk of Our Pastor

Christian Stewardship One of the most precious resources here at Our Lady of Mount Carmel is our youth. We need to challenge our young people to live the teachings of Jesus in the midst of the materialism, hedonism and violence of the popular culture. We need to remind them of the great tradition we share. We remind them that in the midst of the confusion that seems at times to permeate society in the end the only thing that matters is to be a saint as Leon Bloy, the famous French convert, liked to say.

The Benefits of the Sacrament of Penance Restoration to honesty - no more need to rationalize what

we have done wrong. Restoration to integrity - no more need to have secret or

unacknowledged paiis of our life. Relief from unproductive guilt - transformation of remorse

into living a new life. The purpose of this sacrament is not punishment, but true reconciliation with God and the com-munity.

An encounter with God - meeting God in humility (no hu-miliation) and weakness.

Spiritual guidance - no need to strnggle with your moral issues alone.

Inner peace - no longer having to live life at war with our-selves.

Strength in meeting future challenges and temptations. Grace - rediscovering, as did the Prodigal Son, our Heav-

enly Father's unconditional love. Why should you not be afraid of this sacrament? The best reason is that God longs to forgive you. Remember, God knows that you and I are much more than the worst thing we've ever done. I encourage you to look in the bulletin and observe when the Sacrament is available.

NOVENA TO ST. JOSEPH March 10-18 (Feast Day March 19)

O good father Joseph! I beg you, by all your sufferings, sorrows and joys, to obtain for me what I ask, (Here name your petition) Obtain for all those who have asked for my prayers, everything that is useful to them in the plan of God. Be nea r to me in my last moments, that I may eternally sing the praises of Jesus, Mary and Joseph. Amen. (Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be.)

Even though this prayer is meant for everyday, it has a particular meaning for us during Lent: Remember Christian soul, that thou hast this day and every day of thy life ---

God to glorify, Jesus to imitate,

The angels and saints to invoke, A soul to save,

A body to mortify, Sins to expiate

Virtues to acquire, Hell to avoid,

Heaven to again, Eternity to prepare for,

Time to profit by, Neighbors to edify,

The world to despise, Devils to combat,

Passions to subdue, Death perhaps to suffer,

And Judgment to undergo.

Congratulations to the cast and crew of Peter Pan, Jr. for putting on an outstanding show last weekend! After months of blocking, choreography, vocal practice and set construction, the students pulled off flawless performances, transporting the au-dience to the magical world of Neverland. While Mr. and Mrs. Darling and Nana pined away for the children, Wendy, Michael and John followed Peter Pan and Tinkerbell to Neverland where they encountered Captain Hook, Smee, Princess Tiger Lily, Chief Tiger Bamboo, indians, pirates, mermaids, fairies, the Lost Boys, and the Crocodile before finally returning safely home!

We are deeply grateful to the directors, producers and volun-teers for their tireless efforts, especially Jen Lambert, Mary Lee Corr, Mary Lou Gehring, Jo Green, Barb Miller, David Cassel, Michelle Pedersen, Mike Lam-bert, Shawn Reshetar, Pat Hack-ett, and Cindy Hendricks. Most of these ladies and gentlemen don’t even have children at Our Lady of Mount Carmel School anymore, but they come back every year to help create this amazing experi-ence for our students. I can hardly wait to see what next year brings! God bless, Dawn Parker

This project will benefit the food bank each quarter. Knights shopped, packaged and delivered to our local food bank on Old Dublin Pike on Feb. 3rd. A satisfying day for all
