FROM THE OGLE OFFICE Dear friends, On January 22 1973, the United States Supreme court handed down the notorious decision known as “Roe v Wade” which effectively legalized abortion on demand in our country. It did so by fabricating a hitherto unknown “right to privacy” in the Consti-tution as a basis for undoing the most fundamental human right. It was expected by the cultural elites of our society that the deci-sion would eventually be accepted as a fait accompli as we had sadly seen in first in countries that were controlled by communism and then by many of the formerly Christian nations of Europe. How wrong they were. In fact, Roe v. Wade galvanized an immediate pre-life movement in our country which has only grown stronger over the years in spite of withering opposition from many academics, politicians and cultural nihilists. The pro-life move-ment is not going away because it is based upon good science: science continues to show that from the moment of conception, it is human life that exists in the womb. Even pro-abortionists have largely conceded this reality, and now they blatantly admit that they are choosing the preference of the adult over the rights of the innocent human in the womb, contrary to every decent stand-ard of Western civilization, let alone religious beliefs. The Annual “March for Life” in Washington DC on or near January 22 (this year on Friday, January 19) is a massive outpouring of support for an end to abortion and, in a sign of the times, is always heavily populated with people under 30 years of age. Our parish co-sponsors the bus that leaves every year from St Joseph parish bringing people to the March. Contact St Joseph rectory for more information: 718-278-1611. Every year the Diocese of Brooklyn celebrates a special “Pro-Vita” Mass sponsored by the L.I. Chapter Knights of Columbus to honor those who have worked intensely to curb abortion and support the already-born, especially those most in need. This year’s Mass will be on Sunday, January 27 at 5 PM at St James Cathedral at Jay and Tillary Streets in Brooklyn. The honorees will be Bishop Di Marzio, Susan and Kevin Moore and Ken Latham of the K of C. We encourage you to attend this Mass or watch it on diocesan TV, the ”NET” (Spectrum Channel 97).

God love you, Msgr. Sean G. Ogle

Sean G. Ogle

PRAYER OF THE WEEK O Lord my God, teach my heart this day where and how to see you, where and how to find you. You are my God and you are my All and I have never seen you. You have made me and remade me. You have bestowed on me all the good things I possess, Still I do not know you. I have not yet done that for which I was made. Teach me to seek you! For I cannot seek you unless you teach me or find you unless you show yourself to me. Let me seek you in my desire. Let me desire you in my seeking. Let me find you by loving you. Let me love you when I find you! Amen. —Prayer of St. Anselm Submitted by Luis Sanchez Share your favorite prayers: [email protected]

NEW HYMN BOOKS ON THE WAY We are happy to announce that this spring, our parish will be getting new hymn books. We are currently using the well-loved and well-worn first edition of “Journeysongs”, the “blue hymnal” which has served us well for almost thirty years. These will be replaced by the “Journeysongs, Third Edition”, bound in an attractive green hardcover to keep in the pews. You can take part in this liturgical enrichment by memorializing a hym-nal in memory of a deceased loved one, or honoring a living person with the gift of a hymnbook donated in their name. All the books will remain in the church for the congregation's use, and a commemorative plate will be inscribed with the honoree's name inside the book. The cost of dedicating a hymnbook will be $30. Forms are now available to reserve a book to dedicate.
