Anointing of the sick: To schedule an anointing call the parish office. Baptism: Baptisms may be arranged for most Sundays of the year at 1:00PM. First time parents must attend a Baptism Preparation Class, which is offered on the third Monday of the month at 7PM. Please call the parish office to schedule a baptism and/or the class. Matrimony: Engaged couples should call the parish of-fice for an interview appointment one year before the wedding date. Obtain a Mass Card: During office hours we welcome those who would like to request that their special inten-tions or deceased loved ones be prayed for particularly at a weekday or weekend Mass. We ask a donation of $10 per Mass. Obtain a Certificate of Eligibility: Registered parishioners who have been asked to be a Godparent or Confirma-tion Sponsor, should call the parish office to request a certificate of eligibility. Eligible individuals (according to Canon Law) are at least 16 years old, fully initiated, married in the Catholic Church (if married) and partici-pating in the life of our faith regularly and are not the child’s parents. Register for the parish: We are so happy to welcome new members to our Parish Family! Please come and see us at the Parish Office, so that we can get your information and meet you.

Why is it so important to register with

a parish? Registration is the official way we join a parish

community. Some people think that because

they attend a particular parish they automatically

belong. Registering as parishioners requires

signing up, formally enrolling yourself in a parish.

Registration is a commitment to a community, a

way to be included in the religious, social and

ministerial activities of your parish. Registration

shows you belong. It is also necessary for cer-

tain benefits, like scheduling sacraments, obtain-

ing a sponsor certificate, and getting donation

statements for your taxes. Most importantly, it

lets the parish count on you, to call on you to

assist in its mission. Registering in your parish is

a statement of faith and confidence in the life

and work of your parish.

Responsibilities include, assist-ing the congregation with seating, taking up the collection, providing direction at communion, and coordinating a safe and socially distant dismissal upon the conclu-sion of the Mass. Please join us in this ministry. A greeting and a smile goes a long way in providing a parishioner with a sense of community. Email the parish office if interested.

Our Spiritual Adoption Program will be ending Our babies will all be ‘born’ on Sunday, October 4th, Respect Life Sunday. To celebrate their birth we

will be having a Diaper Drive. The drive will benefit Child Care Resources of Monmouth County, who

at the present time has a diaper shortage. All sizes and brands are welcomed but sizes 4, 5, 6, and

training pants are needed most of all. There will be a box inside the first doors of the building where

you can leave your donation. You don’t even have to come all the way in the building if you don’t

want to! The box will be there for two weeks. You can also leave a monetary donation if you want

to. Please make the check payable to Child Care Resources. Thank you in advance for helping with

this project. Right now there are so many people in need. If you would like more information about

Child Care Resources, go to http://ccrnj.org/diaper-bank-at-child-care-resources/.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Spiritual Adoption Program. Keep praying for your

babies and an end to abortion.

Saint of the Week Saint Francis of Assisi, Feast day

October 4 Francis Bernardone, the founder of the Franciscan Order, was born in Assisi, Italy, about the year 1182. His father was a wealthy merchant of the town. During a year’s impris-onment at Perugia due to his participation as a knight he was unsuccessful against that town. Upon recovering from a severe illness he be-came aware of a vocation to the Church of Christ. Francis then had a vision in which God

told him to repair His church. He took this literally and with his own hands began to rebuild the church where he had began praying. But God meant a bigger church for his way to help rebuild the whole faith of the church. Disinherited by his wealthy father, Francis went away penniless and to live a life that was poorer than the poor whom he served. His example soon drew followers to his way of life. Francis preached about humility, poverty, simplicity and prayer to everyone, even the birds whom he thought of as God’s special creatures. When his companions numbered twelve, he sought and received approval of Pope Innocent III to lead a life according to the Rule of the Holy Gospel and they became the “Friars Minor.” Francis never became a priest out of humility and at first only some of his band were in Holy Orders. Soon a vast of Franciscan movement was sweeping through Europe. To accommodate this religious revival, Francis founded a second Order through St. Clare of Assisi for cloistered nuns and a Third Order for religious of both sexes. St. Francis of Assisi was a man with spiritual insight and power. The Order which he founded carries on his humble teachings in every corner of the globe. Ultimately Francis attempted no more than to live out the teachings of Christ and the spirit of the gospel. His identification with Christ was so intense that in 1224, while praying in his hermitage, he received the “stigmata,” the physical marks of Christ’s passion, on his hands, and feet. His last years were marked at once by excruciating physi-cal suffering and spiritual happiness. “Welcome Sister Death!” he exclaimed at last. At his request he was laid on the bare ground in his old habit. To the friars gathered around him he gave each his blessing in turn: “I have done my part,” he said. “May Christ teach you to do yours.” So he died on October 3, 1226.
