Hi Olds EnthusiastsOur club Christmas Party at the Cattlemen’s Restaurant in Livermore was well at-tended by new and old friends that came to visit in the Holiday Spirit. I want to say that my tenure as NCOC President was fun and rewarding for being able to lead our club and organize & preside over our club hosting the 2011 Oldsmobile National Car Show. The success of our club and all events & functions could not have been suc-cessful without the support of our members. I want to thank all members that have and will continue to support our Great Northern California Chapter of the Oldsmobile Club of America.P.S. I would like to support our club hosting another National Car Show sometime in the future (5-10 years). Your EX-President, Dan Haggerty

President’s Message (Incoming)Hi Everyone,I would like to thank everyone who came to the Christmas party and brought a toy for the Toys for Tots program. I would like to thank everyone for electing me as your 2012-13 Nor Cal President. I hope we have an exciting 2 years and create some fun outingsfortheclub.Aplanningmeetingwillbecomingupafterthefirstoftheyear,so I encourage you to come an bring your ideas to the planning meeting. We will back at Morro Bay 2012 Zone Show with our friends from So Cal chapter.

IwouldliketowelcomeournewclubofficersandIamveryexcitedtobeworkingwith such a great group of people. I also want to thank everyone who came out and supported our 2011 National Meet. We should give Dan Haggerty a special thanks for his leadership in this event. Hope to see you at the next meeting.

Happy Holidays, Ken Van Gundy, President

President’s Message (Outgoing)

On the cover is Santa dropping off a ‘66 Cutlass. This car belongs to Nor Cal member Doug Miller of Georgia who spends summers here in California. I think Santa has been a big help moving this car back and forth across the country. The story of this beautiful ‘66 Cutlass is featured on page 10, enjoy. As we start the new year our Oldsmobiles are less active in winter. Remember, this is your hobby and maybe your favorite hobby, as it is mine. So don’t put off renewing your membership for 2012. This edition has a convenient mailer to renew, do it today!I’m looking forward to a great year starting with a planning meeting and Turlock swap both in January. See Events page 5Happy Holidays,...Editor, Larry Ewing

Publicity ReportHi Good Members of the Nor Cal Olds Club, I am taking over where Jeff Stanish left off to get our club publicity and notoriety. I am looking for anywhere we can advertise for free in Northern California; such as websites, magazines, etc. We will be putting our events in Cruising News and are getting a half page, four times a year for the club at a very reasonable price. We will continue to promote the club where ever we go, and all of our members should carry a copy of the newsletter, and a few copies of the application with them at any auto related adventure you attend. All you have to do is download the application from our website. I am open to suggestions at all times, email me at [email protected] have a great year in 2012!!Jeanie Marsden

The 2011 Year End Treasurer ReportWhat a good year we had, lots of work doing the Nationals, but fun too. We

made some money for our chapter and we should be able to continue being able to add money to our coffers each year and be ready to afford to do another National Show in 5 years.

Good luck folks doing that one! I have enjoyed being the Membership Chairper-sonforthelast7yearsandtheTreasurerforthepast4years.Ifeelextremelyconfi-dent that Dan Haggerty is more than capable to take both jobs and he will work with each of you in his new capacity. I will have fun selling merchandise, getting free ads for our club, and doing whatever it takes to promote the club.

I thank everyone for being patient with me over the years. It was a fun job. Respectfully submitted, Jeanie Marsden

Here are some happenings throughout 2011 and into 2012 Saturday, December 3 through January 6, 2012 - The California Automobile Museum will host the Sierra Mustang Club in its Car Club Cavalcade Exhibit for the month of December. Christmas Party December 4th at the Cattlemen’sThis year was an election year and the results were given at this dinner. President is now Ken Van Gundy, Vice President is now Pat Kennedy, Secretary is now Linda Sutherland and our new Treasurer is Dan Haggerty. Over 50 members were present and the dinner and dessert was wonderful. Thanks go out the Van Gundys again for arranging this event and collecting all the registration forms and taking care of all details. Diane Kauffman collected all the Toys for Tots gifts and filled the back of her Cutlass SX to deliver to the U.S. Marines. Thank you!

All members received a semi-permenent badge with their name and car year. It has our full color logo and officers have their titles printed below their name. These badges are available to all members that attend any of our events. All that is necessary is to let Larry Ewing know prior to a show or meeting and one will be waiting for you at the event.

Above is Dan Haggerty who is our new Treasurer and Membership person.Next to him in President Ken Van Gundy who is also our Show Car Show Chair-man. Pat Kennedy is our new Vice Presi-dent and on the left is Linda Sutherland who now takes over the office of Secretary. These are 2 year terms with a 2 term limit.

The cake was yummy!

Across the hood of the ‘66 Cutlass in Oatman, Arizona stands a local admirer (Burro)

Santa’s Gift (see cover) by Doug MillerI have been a fan of Oldsmobiles since I bought my first one in 1968. To date I have owned a ‘64 F85 (2) ‘65 442s, (3) ‘66 Cutlass/F85/442’s as well as a ‘76 Toronado and a ‘92 Bravada. This story is about my ‘66 Cutlass convertible. I bought this car on Ebay from a dealer in Sonoma, CA in 2007. It was pretty much as described when I finally got around to seeing it a few months after the purchase. An original 2 owner 38 thousand mile California car, needing a full restoration. Between ‘07 and ‘08 I had a new top, exhaust, total front end rebuild including power disc brakes, I also had the seats recovered and new carpets installed. In early ‘09 I shipped the car to Diff- Works in Corona, CA for installation of a 12 bolt Chevy rear with 3:42s and a 200 4R Trans. A good friend of mine in Omaha NE, Barry Snodgrass had done several A and F body frame off restorations and offered to do this car. We flew to Corona and drove the car back east across Route 66 where possible in November ‘09. We had a great time on the trip (the burro picture was taken in Oatman AZ) and the little 330 did 22 mpg at 80 mph when we were on I-40! Once we got the car to Omaha the frame off began, I made 3 trips up to help with some of the assembly but the bulk of the work was done by Barry and the paint was applied by Tom Scott. The car was completed in late 2010 and did very well on the show circuit in Omaha and the surrounding areas. We shipped it to Reno for the Nationals where it scored very well (997) after the show Barry and I drove it home to my place in Napa. It won the Slick 60’s Pick at the Main Street reunion show in Napa (390 cars) the following weekend. ......Doug Miller

Here the Cutlass is off the frame in Omaha, NE at Barry Snodgrass’s shop. The paint was applied by Tom Scott.

Above the Cutlass finished and ready to go in Omaha. Below as seen at the Biggest Little Car Show in the West, the OCA Nationals in Reno. 997 points!

Above the Cutlass at a Napa Show a week after the Nationals. Doug and his wife Terri receive a well deserved Slick ‘60’s Pick Award.

Doug and Terri are our longest distant Nor Cal members making Albany, Georgia their home. They do spend their summers out here is California where the ‘66 lives most of the time!

Nationals StoryThe follow was scanned from the So Cal newsletter. Written by Pam Wall, she gives a complementary story of our show describing all of our events very well. I don’t know of anyone that was able to see as much as she did during the four days. One minor mistake was she thought Lori VanGundy was host of the Ladies Luncheon when in fact is was Elaine Haggerty. I apologize for the small size as I had to scan it to fit our format. A magnifying glass may be needed but it will be worth it! Editor Larry
