We have Natural and Organic options of meaty, tender birds that are full of rich flavor and perfect for roasting, available in a range of weights, all locally raised on farms we know and trust. Turkeys will be available for pickup from Monday November 25th through Wednesday November 27th.
Whether your favorite holiday meals include butternut squash soup or roasted acorn squash, now is the time of year to stock up on fresh, local winter squash. Locally grown, harvested, made, raised, roasted, baked, brewed and butchered products have pride of place on our shelves, not only for their quality and integrity of materials, but also because the true value of being a community market is in making contributions to lives of our neighbors and the larger local economy. And local products make the best gifts!
We have local products on most of the shelves in our store and work with over 100 farmers and artisanal foodmakers, representing 10% of all of our products. Our goal is to make our current contribution to our community’s economy even larger as we expand to additional stores; as of the end of 2013 almost 20% of our sales are of local goods and hope to have a full 1/3 of our sales come from local products by the end of 2014.

ORGANIC INDIA was formed as a labor of love. The guiding principal of our company is sustainability: to honor and protect the Earth by encouraging sustainable agricultural practices and to provide a sustainable living for the farmers and tribes we work with.
We began working cooperatively with farms in northern India to grow ingredients used in our flagship product, the Original Tulsi Tea. Encouraged by the success of this project, we expanded our program to include other Indian herb, food and spice crops.
All of our farmers and tribal wildcrafters are trained in organic, sustainable and biodynamic agricultural practices. We pay all the fees associated with acquiring their organic certifications, and then purchase the crops and wildcrafted herbs that they produce at a premium market price. The farmers rotate between growing crops for ORGANIC INDIA and crops for their families. This means that they receive a sustainable income while at improving and preserving their own health and natural environment.
All ORGANIC INDIA farmers are certified organic according to NOP standards. All of our facilities have been awarded SQF, HACCP, USDA, and GMP certifications. All of our products are 100% organic, pure and natural, because you want the best for your family and so do we.
The intentions of ORGANIC INDIA are health and happiness for all beings and great respect for the Divine Mystery of Mother Nature, who selflessly sustains humanity and naturally provides us all with a bounty of nourishing foods and healing herbs.

Urban MoonshineBitters All sizes and flavors
15%OFFCome early evening, Italians prefer light,
sparkling drinks made from seltzer water and mild
bitter preparations, which are really the beginning
of the evening meal as they support digestion and
can help prevent indigestion and heartburn. After
dinner, many finish with a short glass of amaro, a
stronger preparation that also features bitter roots
and leaves. These formulas immediately relieve
heartburn and over-fullness, ensuring a restful and
pleasant night following the big meal.
This basic formula of aperitifs and digestifs -
where something bitter like gentian root, artichoke
leaf or dandelion is combined with something
aromatic like citrus peel, fennel seed, or angelica
root - is hardly unique to Europe. Bitter oranges,
used widely in Italian aperitivi, are descendants
of Chinese Citrus trifoliata, a classic aromatic-
bitter remedy. In India, digestive remedies are
still prepared from chiretta (Andrographis) and
fennel seed, combining a very bitter plant with
a warm, relaxing aromatic. This combination
stimulates digestive function while relaxing the
belly, easing gas pains, and alleviating nausea
after full, delicious, rich meals. Their use is valued
to this day.
Guido Mase is Chief Herbalist at Urban
Moonshine, responsible for their Organic
Digestive Bitters recipes. He is a practicing clinical
herbalist and garden steward. He teaches at
the Vermont Center for Integrative Herbalism
(vtherbcenter.org) and the author of The Wild
Medicine Solution: Healing with Aromatic, Bitter
and Tonic Plants are important cultural adjuncts to
full, delicious, rich meals, and their use is valued
to this day.

How Much?...
When it comes to entertaining, how much food and drink you should have can be a maddening thing to gure out. The Farmers’ Almanac has a great guide for how much food to serve at a party; there are also many online calculators to help you estimate. Here are some basic guidelines caterers use to gure out “how much” for a classic cocktail party.
Cheese: 2-3 oz. per person if cheese is not your only item or 6-8 oz. per person for a wine and cheese party. Most cheeses last a couple of months in the fridge if you have leftovers.
Hors d’oeuvres: 8-10 pieces per guest
Drinks: In general guests consume two drinks the rst hour and one drink each following hour. When serving wine, beer and spirits, the general rule of thumb is:•50% Wine•30% Beer•20% Mixed Drinks
If not serving mixed drinks, plan on 60% wine and 40% beer. Also have plenty of non-alcoholic beverages available including water.

Crafty ThanksgivingDecorating for the holidays brings pleasure to both those who do the decorating as well as those who enjoy the end result. Creating homemade decorations provides a unique touch as well as wonderful stories and memories for years to come. Here are some fun craft ideas that are simple enough to do yourself and are safe enough to involve the children in your life. Use these ideas as a springboard for your own creative projects.• “Give Thanks” banner: Using twine and natural ndings such as twigs, leaves, etc., spell out eachletter and adhere each on to a piece of construction paper. Tie the letters together with twine to create a long, festive banner.• Cranberry strings: Do you remember stringing popcorn during the holidays? Well, grab a bag of freshcranberries and start threading! They look beautiful on the mantle or placed artfully on a dining table.• Scented Pinecones: White glue, ground spices, a small paintbrush, and a small plastic bag are all youneed to create beautifully scented pinecones. Mix your desired combination of spices in the plastic bag, and then paint a generous layer of glue all over your pinecones. Sprinkle the pinecones with the mixed spices and keep them somewhere safe to dry overnight.

Do Less, Enjoy More: A Holiday Challenge“Sometimes it’s about less is more. It’s about the seed. Thinking about this gigantic tree that you think is so beautiful but it started with this just seed.” Fred Durst“Less is more… Stay in the present… Appreciate the little things in life.” These words of wisdom pop up all the time these days on social media, in frames at our chiropractor’s oce, and in cards our friends email to us as reminders to slow down. It’s easy to always be busy “doing”…especially with technology literally at our ngertips. We can be working, checking and “doing” every moment. Our busy lives have us moving at record speeds to do more in less time but how much of what we “do” do we appreciate…or even remember we have done? What if we challenge ourselves to choose ONE thing each day and just enjoy what we are doing? For example, let’s say you bake cookies with your family every year. Instead of baking 10 dierent kinds of cookies, just bake three or go crazy and just bake just one! Take time to choose your favorite recipe and tell the history of where you found it. Take the time to gather the ingredients; have fun measuring, pouring, and mixing… watch as they transform from cold globs of dough into golden cookies. Then, when they are done and still warm, nd the softest seat in the house and sit with your fellow bakers and enjoy a cookie. Why not choose one thing on your “to do” list this season and just relax and enjoy?

We support organizations such as the Animal Welfare Association and Humane Care for Farm Animals, not-for-profits that administer certifications, because their initiatives to improve the lives of farm animals by setting rigorous standards, conducting annual inspections, and certifying their humane treatment reflects our values.
Additionally, we visit our producers—much of our meat, poultry, eggs and dairy is local, which by our standards means it comes from within 150 miles of one of our stores. We work with small farms that practice responsible husbandry and let the animals do what comes naturally to them—cows graze when they want to graze, pigs root around, chickens scratch and peck.
We have recently begun our own Farm Inspection project, and are working to ensure that 100% of our producers are certified by a third
party or verified against our own standards no later than March 1st, 2014.
Aside from being raised as food, animals have a role in large, corporate natural food markets in their health and beauty aisles, where many products are tested on animals to determine their effectiveness. Not at KWF—we don’t think that animals should suffer to bring us a better eye cream. All of our health and beauty products are not tested on animals, and we encourage all of them to get the international “leaping bunny” certification from Cruelty Free International.
We prefer to offer you only those products raised on farms that operate according to humane standards. We
choose to bring you health and beauty products that have been made without cruelty or animal testing. We encourage you to explore these standards with us this month and all year long.
