Sacrificial Giving and some thoughts….. God is the author of all creation. God created the world and God created us. Often, I hear someone say, “I am a self-made man (or woman).” Such people worship themselves as their own creator. Today, we acknowledge the Lord, our Father—our Creator. We worship not ourselves, but God, who created us. Our stewardship of time, abilities, and money acknowledg-es that God created all of us. “I am a God-made man (or woman)! Thanks for your sacrificial giving.

SACRED HEART PARISH IS SEEKING A DIRECTOR OF MUSIC

Sacred Heart Catholic Church has an opening for a full-time Director of Music. The successful applicant

will work as a vital part of the parish staff team to bring the parish vision of ‘Inviting Everyone to

Passionately Live the Gospel’ to realization, specifically through the work of sacred music. Tasks include coordinating music to enhance the liturgical

services of the parish, including selecting music, playing the organ and piano for liturgies, directing choirs, coordinating cantors and accompanists, and

maintaining the pipe organ and piano. A full job description can be found at sacredheartaberdeen.net/employment-opportunities. Interested candidates are

asked to send a copy of their resume and an accompanying cover letter to Fr. Mark Lichter, Pastor of Sacred Heart, at [email protected], or by mail to 502 2nd Ave SE Aberdeen, SD 57401.

Greetings! Friday we celebrated the Solemnity of All Saints and on Saturday we celebrated the Commemoration of All Souls. Our minds move to prayer and thoughts of our loved ones who have died along with those who are already declared by the Church to be in the glory of heaven. In a prominent place in the church we have a Book of Life where you and your families can write the name of loved ones who have died and we will keep them close to our hearts this November. We also will refer to the Book of Life at each of the Masses we cel-ebrate during this month. Take some time to reflect not only on those who are declared Saints in heaven, but those who have gone be-fore us marked with the sign of faith and are now at rest. The November issue of the Bishops Bulletin has the names of all our loved ones that have died in the past year (October 1, 2018—September 30, 2019) for all the parishes in the Diocese of Sioux Falls. I encour-age you to cut out and place in your prayer space the names of all who have died from Sacred Heart parish. To take it a step further, you could cut out all those listed in the Bishops Bulletin and pray for all who have died from our diocese. Remember, this is also a time to have a Mass said for a loved one. You can contact Janean in office to put it on the calendar. The normal sacrificial offering is $10. We also pray for the poor souls in purgatory during this time as we cannot assume everyone is in heaven! I hope people remember me after my death and have some Masses said for the repose of my own soul! This is the time in the Church year that we reflect on our own death and the end times. We are coming close to the end of the Church calendar year and the readings reflect this reality. We contemplate heaven, hell, and purgatory. We contemplate the second coming of Christ. We celebrate the Solemnity of Christ the King on the last Sunday of the Church year and then launch into the Advent Season and the beginning of a new Church year, in December. With this in mind, we realize the shortness of our lives here one earth and look to the things that last forever. Things are passing and we live this life temporarily with our focus on the things to come, eternal life. It can be sobering time for us, but also a reality check in our relationship with Jesus Christ. This happened to Zacchaeus in the Gospel for this weekend. He was looking for more than this world has to offer. Zacchaeus was desir-ing something deeper in his life. He wanted to see Jesus. He went so far as to climb a tree to hear him speak. His life changed when he was invited by Jesus to come into his home. This invitation put his life in order and changed the trajectory of his life. This conversion of Zacchaeus gives us great hope! There is more to life thank work and money! Zacchaeus is proof that a new life is possible. We need to come down from our trees (worldly allurements) and join the Lord in a conversation. We are called to realize that our time here is lim-ited and that we need a close relationship with Christ to bring meaning to our lives. Zacchaeus pray for us! Beginning on November 5th to the 11th, I will be going on my annual retreat. This is a silent retreat which is always a great blessing. As priests we are required to go on some form of retreat each year. I usually go in the fall and Fr. Patrick goes in the spring. It has been said that the retreat for the priests is very beneficial for them, but one bishop has said it is also beneficial for the parishioners to have a break from their priest! In this case enjoy yourself and hopefully my absence will make the heart grow fonder. If you have any major questions Father Patrick is more than capable of handling the question in my stead. Keep on praying for one another! God bless you! Fr. Mark
