We need help with the distribution of the dictionaries to the students. So please coordinate with Suzanne Leonida and Rose Restrivera to help with this project.

The World Interact week was October 31 to November 6th. We would like to welcome our new Interact Club Faculty Advisor Team: Deborah Stokes, Kimberlee Peterson and Pono Higa from Waianae High School. They had a recruiting table at the Waianae High School Club Fair on Oct 21st and there were 56 students that signed-up expressing interest in joining Interact.

The Advisory Team also conducted a recruiting drive on Oct 21st at the 9th Grade Academy Campus.

RYLA CAMP

Huge Success!!!! The Waianae Coast Rotary (WCRC) and the Waianae Military Civilian Advisory Council (WMCAC) hosted the Rotary District Foundation’s Oahu Rotary Youth

Leadership Academy (RYLA) camp for high School Rotary Interact Clubs on October 13-1, 2016, at the Pililaau Army Recreation Center (PARC) at Pokai Bay and Our Lady of Keaau in Keaau Valley. The RYLA is a leadership event where students from high schools on Oahu learned the values of leadership and experience challenging and exciting team-building events such as water crossing, outrigger canoe paddling, paddle boarding and other fun and exciting team events. 50 students (majority of them were Rotary Interactors) became knowledgeable in leadership, motivation, teamwork, comradeship and community service. This was the first visit to Waianae for many students who enjoyed the splendor of the Waianae Coast.

WCRC and WMCAC provided and cooked the meals at this camp and Rotarian Albert Silva showed the students learned how to kalua a pig that they consumed as one of their meals. Rotarians Margaret O’Connell, Albert Silva, Duane Samson, Nalani Flinn, Rose Restrivera, Dennis Miyashiro, Rudy Reese, Joyce Arakaki and Don “Rock” Arakaki helped make this RYLA a memorable event that the students will cherish forever. Don’t Forget our Board Meeting on Tuesday November 22nd at 1:15 PM. Did you know that the month of November in our Rotary Calendar is …Rotary International Foundation Month. The Rotary Foundation transforms your gifts into projects that change lives both close to home and around the world. As the charitable arm of Rotary, we tap into a global network of Rotarians who invest their time, money, and expertise into our priorities, such as eradicating polio and promoting peace. Foundation grants empower Rotarians to approach challenges such as poverty, illiteracy, and malnutrition with sustainable solutions that leave a lasting impact.

Strong financial oversight, a stellar charity rating, and a unique funding model mean that we make the very most of your contribution. Give

Christmas Parade

Our 22nd Annual Community Christmas parade sponsored by the Waianae Coast Rotary Club is

scheduled for Saturday December 10th. Our theme this year is “Serving Waianae with Humility” The Waianae Coast Comprehensive/Farmers Market team is organizing the Ho’olaulea event this year. This year’s Ho`olaule`a will be set up in the corner closest to Ark of Safety, with a “holiday lane” with keiki activities and crafts in the center of the mall.

The Hoolaulea’s application will be requiring each vendor to offer a healthy item on their menu and they are encouraged to support our local farmers, fishermen and dairies. In addition, this year they will have the opportunity to showcase our local non-profits who do work in creating a healthier Waianae community and am looking for organizations to do activities based around health, sustainability and culture for the keiki.

Foundation Centennial The Rotary Foundation is turning 100! Rotary is marking the Foundation's centennial with a year of festivities. The celebration kicks off at the

2016 Rotary Convention in Seoul and will culminate at the 2017 convention in Atlanta.

In 2016-17, our Rotary Foundation turns 100. That’s a century of Rotary members changing lives and improving communities all over the world. And that’s definitely something worth celebrating.

Through our Foundation, Rotary members have supported thousands of projects to provide clean water, fight disease, promote peace, provide basic education, and grow local economies. We’ve also been a leader in the fight to eradicate polio worldwide.

The centennial is the perfect time to share this impressive record with the world. Join us in making sure that every Rotary member and people in every community know about the vital work of Rotary and its Foundation
