Tips for ParentsYOUR CH I LDREN NEED YOU TO BE INTERESTED AND INVOLVED IN THE IR

ACADEMIC PROGRESS . YOUR CH I LDREN MUST , HOWEVER , BE

RESPONS IBLE FOR THE IR OWN GRADES , ATTENDANCE , AND BEHAV IOR .

Be Interested. Make sure that your child

knows that his/her academic progress is

important to you. Attend all open houses

and parent-teacher conferences. Know

when each grading period ends, and

make sure that you see report cards as

soon as they come out. Monitor PupilPath

regularly for updates on your child’s

progress.

Discuss Classes and Set Goals. Sit down

with your son or daughter at the

beginning of each grading period and

help him/her set realistic academic goals

for the term. Your child will better

understand what your expectations are,

and having goals will give your child

something to work towards.

Encourage School Involvement:  Students

show that students who are involved in

school-related activities enjoy school

more and they have greater academic

success.  Encourage your child to be

involved in one or more activities at

school.

Listen: Talk to your child about what’s

happening in school and be a good

listener.

Monitor Activities: Make sure that your

child is not spending too much time

watching TV, playing computer games, or

observing social media.

Providing our Students with a 21st  Century Learning Experience

What is a Chromebook?

Chromebooks are devices that access the internet. The devices are primarily used to perform a variety of tasks using the Google Chrome browser, with most applications and data residing in the cloud rather than on the machine itself.

What will the students be doing with the Chromebooks?

Students are using Google Classroom, Google Docs, Google Slides, Google Sites, and so much more to enhance their learning experiences in the classroom. Students have access to an incredible amount of new opportunities. Students are learning how to better collaborate with their peers, to be more creative, and to take ownership of their learning.

Google Drive is a group of programs with the following features: -Creation Tools (Docs, Presentation, Spreadsheet, Draw, Forms)

-Autosaves as you work -Stores your Docs on the Cloud

-Uses all types of devices: multi-platform -Accessible anywhere there is Internet!

PTA President's MessageDear Paulo Families,

The holidays are fast approaching, and there are many events taking place here at Paulo. Thank you to all families who participated in our Yankee Candle, Java Joe’s and World’s Finest fundraisers. The 6th graders had a wonderful time at our Halloween Dance, and our 7th and 8th grade Night of 100 Pizzas is sure to be a great night. We have far surpassed our first Box Tops goal, with a whopping 16,481 Box Tops received thus far! Our students will enjoy having no homework over the Thanksgiving break. Keep them coming, if we reach 20,000 total by December 18 the students will have no homework over the winter break as well! Our next General PTA meeting will be held on Tuesday, 11/14/17 @ 6:30pm. Mr. Scarmato, Principal of Tottenville H.S., will be here to speak about the many programs available to the incoming students. Literacy Night will immediately follow. Come and shop our Scholastic Book Fair that evening, from 6:00-6:30pm and at the conclusion of Literacy Night, and enjoy 25% off all purchases! All are welcome. Thank you to all our families and local businesses who have so generously sent in donations for our upcoming Spring Auction. Our auction will be held on March 29, 2018, at the Old Bermuda Inn, and tickets will go on sale in early January. The PTA will gladly acceptdonations of any new, unopened items or empty baskets at the PTA office during school hours, and we thank you for your continued support. On behalf of our PTA I wish all our families a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Warm Regards,

Marie Stackhouse PTA President

When planning a school trip, it is very important to think about medical arrangements for those students who receive nursing services during the day. The Department of Education will make every effort to get nurses for students who have approved 504s and IEPs for health services. However, there is a nursing shortage. Principals must plan ahead in the event that a contract nurse is unavailable for a scheduled trip. The school may be notified only a day in advance that a nurse is not available so an action plan must be in place.

Please be aware of the following: • Parents and guardians may attend the activity and administer the medication or • The parent can personally request another adult, who is not employed by the school, to voluntarily administer the medication on the field trip and inform the school in writing of such a request. This must be planned ahead of time, not the day of the trip. • As per NYS Education Department: teachers cannot administer medication; nurses cannot delegate the administration of medication. • The student’s healthcare provider can be consulted and may order, in writing, the medication time to be adjusted or the dose be eliminated. This should be done in advance, not the day of the trip. • If your child receives nursing services during the school day and is scheduled to attend a class trip, please consult with our medical room staff to ensure procedures are in place.
