SAINTS AND SPECIAL OBSERVANCES

Sunday: Fourth Sunday of Easter; World Day of Prayer for Vocations Wednesday: St. Damien de Veuster Friday: Ss. Nereus and Achilleus; St. Pancras Saturday: Our Lady of Fatima

Jesus Our Savior In this Easter season, we are joyous and thankful to God for the gift of His Son, who gave His life for us so that we might know God, share in His divine nature and glorify His holy name now and forever with Him in His eternal Kingdom.

The whole purpose and point of the Incarnation is the forgiveness of sins and the reconciliation of God and all humanity. Again and again in the Gospels, Jesus tells us that He did not come into the world to condemn us. In the account of the woman caught in adultery, Jesus tells her that not only have her accusers gone away, but neither does He condemn her. We must all see Jesus as our Savior. Jesus has come to rescue us from a trap we’re caught in. He has come to bring healing to our brokenness. He has come to restore what was lost.

All of those things are our own doing, but Jesus does not hold it against us. Jesus reveals God to be our loving, merciful, forgiving Father. We have all sinned, but if we confess our sins, He is happy to forgive us. Jesus has no interest in banishing us from His presence, no desire to turn us away, no intention of leaving us without hope.

Shepherds in Jesus’ time were very much invested in their flocks. A shepherd’s flock meant his livelihood, and the welfare of his family or even his entire village. He wasn’t about to let any single one of them get lost or hurt. The shepherd’s whole life was oriented toward the care of those sheep.

Jesus is invested in each one of us to an infinite degree. He cares. We matter to Him far, far more than earthly sheep matter to earthly shepherds. We go through our lives, we have our plans, our problems, our agendas. Jesus’ entire plan is our salvation.

Jesus so very much wants us to know Him. He wants us to know that He has what we all want. All of our hopes, desires, wants and needs are to be found only in Him, and He is happy to give all of it to us!

The Easter proclamation of the Early Church reverberates to this very day: Christ is Risen! He is our Savior who wants to bring us to Heaven, who has the power to bring us to Heaven, and who paid the price for our entrance in to Heaven.

Alleluia! Alleluia! In Jesus,In Jesus,In Jesus,In Jesus,

¡Aleluya! ¡Aleluya!

Pope Francis calls the church to be permanently in mission. He calls for everyone to be a missionary. We can participate in the mission through prayer.

The lines for the opportunity to see a rock star are indelibly long. The Star of all Stars, Jesus, humbles Himself to share a personal one on one hour, and only a few “wise virgins” fill up their lamps with this wondrous love freely given by Christ. How will He be able to recognize us at the end of our earthly exile if we become as the “foolish virgins’ who are too busy to show love and adoration for this awesome gift that is our Mighty Lord Jesus?

This hour is a great and unrepeated opportunity for a young parent or grandparent to teach their tender lambs our faith and reverence to our most humble Majesty, The Good Shepherd Jesus. Please join us in just one hour of adoration a week out of nearly 124 weekly hours to choose from.

An adorer is needed for:

Wednesday 3:00 a.m.—4:00 a.m. Thursday 10:00 a.m.—11:00 a.m. Thursday 2:00 a.m.—3:00 a.m.

Saturday 2:00 a.m.—3:00 a.m.

If you are able to help with this time, please call

Veronica Fabro at (830)377-9117.

miercoles 3:00 a.m.—4:00 a.m. jueves 10:00 a.m.—11:00 a.m. jueves 2:00 a.m.—3:00 a.m. sabado 2:00 a.m.—3:00 a.m.

Vinnie's on Broadway NOTES FROM THE HEART

The volunteers at St. Vincent de Paul on Broadway would like to share with you our work that your donations and thrift shop support make possible while keeping confidential the identities of our brothers and sisters in need. Mobil Food Pantry

This Tuesday, May 9, is our last Mobil Food Pantry until September. No student help again, so we need you. 10:30 to 12:30 Schreiner Campus. Enter Park Street and follow signs. Community

A couple volunteers attended a Weatherization workshop put on by KPUB and AACOG. Free home inspections are available for what is considered low income households and may be eligible for free stuff, even to the point of replacing leaking refrigerators. The homes can be rented apartments, houses, or trailers. The type of things AACOG does is weather-stripping, energy efficient bulbs, caulking, duct sealing, insulation, furnace cleaning and tune-ups. Both agencies have grant money to use up and are looking for qualifying families. Income Qualifiers for AACOG: 1 in family income under $18,090 a year 2 in family income under $24,360 a year 4 in family income under $36,900 a year KPUB mainly does reimbursements. KPUB qualifiers are: $1357 a month for one and $1827 a month for couples. Can't hurt to apply and hopefully save money on utility bills. KPUB call David Baxter at 830-792-8237. AACOG is 210-362-5282. Neighbors in Need

The last Saturday of April, 4 families came to the Pantry for food that had already received help that month. Three were OK with coming back Monday, May. The fourth had only come the week before. Out of food with six kids. We gave her food. A woman just got 2 foster children that came with no clothing but pajamas. The toddlers had to be in her care a month in order for the foster funding to kick in and get clothes for the kids. She came to us for clothing vouchers to the store. Gently used kids clothes are always needed.

BooksToBorrow from the Notre Dame Parish Library are available in the narthex of the church, near the bell tower door. Richard Cort tells us about the newest book in our library: Our Lady of Fatima: 100 Years of Stories,

Prayers, and Devotions, by Donna-Marie Cooper

O’Boyle

On Saturday, May 13, Pope Francis will be in Fatima, Portugal to celebrate mass in honor of the hundredth anniversary of the first appearance of Our Lady of Fatima on May 13, 1917. Our Lady of Fatima is also known as Our Lady of the Holy Rosary of Fatima (Nossa Senhora do Rosário de Fátima), and she continued to appear – once a month – to three children over the course of the next five months, urging the children (and the world) to pray the rosary with regularity and devotion. In this just-released (March 2017) book, Mrs. O’Boyle leads us through all of the events of 1917, and shows us how we can incorporate the lessons of Fatima into our own lives. The first half of the book takes us through the events of May-October 1917 when Our Lady appeared to the three children (Lucia, Francisco, and Jacinta) in Portugal, and gave them messages for themselves, the Church, and the world. These messages included “the three secrets”, which have been the subject of many books. O’Boyle recounts all of these things, and then moves on to discuss the lives of the visionaries during and after the apparitions. The second half of the book discusses the importance of Fatima today, how the messages of Our Lady can provide valuable guidance for the conduct of our own individual lives, and O’Boyle suggests prayers, devotions, and resources to assist us in our journey. And although the book is relatively short – at 180 pages – it contains an abundance of information and ideas to assist us conducting our own celebration of this one hundredth anniversary event. From the back of the book: “This collection of prayers, testimonies, and reflections will bring to life the events of Fatima and help you find ways to apply Mary’s Fatima message to the nitty gritty details of your daily life. …O’Boyle is an award-winning and best-selling author of more than twenty books, …an award-winning journalist, catechist, speaker, pilgrimage host, and the EWTN television host and creator of “Everyday Blessings for Catholic Moms,” “Catholic Mom’s Café,” and “Feeding Your Family’s Soul.”
