JUBILEE INDULGENCE On September 1, 2015, Pope Francis issued a letter granting an Indulgence to the Faithful on the Occasion of the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy. In the Diocese of Cleveland, all Members of the Christian Faithful who wish to seek the Jubilee Indulgence are:

• Make a brief pilgrimage to the Holy Door, open at the Ca-thedral of St. John the Evangelist, Cleveland, Ohio, and at Our Lady of Lourdes National Shrine at any time during the Year of Mercy, and cross over the threshold of mercy as a sign of their deep desire for true conversion;

• Sacramentally confess their sins; • Participate in the celebration of, and receive, the Holy

Eucharist with a reflection on mercy; • Make a profession of faith; • Pray for the intentions of the Holy Father, Pope Francis

While the first two conditions may be fulfilled several days be-fore or after the performance of the indulgenced work, it is fit-ting that Communion be received, the prayer for the intentions of the Holy Father be made, and the profession of faith be said on the same day.

A single sacramental confession suffices for several plenary indulgences but receiving Communion and praying for the in-tentions of the Holy Father are required for each indulgence.

Those who perform the spiritual and corporal works of mercy may also, by their actions, obtain the Jubilee Indulgence. The Holy Father states, “Each time that one of the faithful person-ally performs one or more of the works of mercy, he or she shall surely obtain the Jubilee Indulgence. Hence the commitment to live by mercy so as to obtain the grace of complete and exhaus-tive forgiveness by the power of the love of the Father who ex-cludes no one. The Jubilee Indulgence is thus full, the fruit of the very event which is to be celebrated and experienced with faith, hope, and charity.”

JUBILEE OF MERCY PILGRIMAGE Please watch your mail for a Year of Mercy Pilgrimage Pass-port, coming to you in late May, and check the diocesan Year of Mercy website http://www.dioceseofcleveland.org/yearofmercy/ for updates and more information. Let us truly heed Pope Francis’ words: “Mercy overcomes every wall, every barrier, and leads you to always seek the face of the person. It is mercy which changes the heart and the life!” MOTHER LOVE There is only one pretty child in the world, and every mother has it. —Chinese proverb

“TOUCH OUR WORLD ONE CHILD AT A TIME.” Today more and more children find themselves homeless. Blessing House, a crisis care center for children in the Cleve-land area, provides children a safe and loving environment until they can go home. The Sisters of Notre Dame invite single women ages 18-35 to volunteer at Blessing House from June 26-July 1, 2016. For more information, contact Sr. M. Kelley Rush, SND at 440-241-3124 or e-mail [email protected]. Online registration available at www.sndchardon.org.

Growing in FAITHFAITH

Discovering hope and joy in the Catholic faith

Give Your Prayer Life a Boost A rich prayer life is the key to happiness in this life and the next. Enriching our prayer is not always about the prayers we say, however. How we ap-proach our time in prayer can be as important.

“Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:11). When we greet a dear friend, we may wave, hug, or say, “hello.” When beginning prayer, start by placing yourself in God’s presence and greet him as a dearly loved one.

Come as you are. God is the only one in our lives with whom we can be completely ourselves. We don’t need to have special clothing, use flowery language, or fold our hands a certain way. For prayer to work, we just have to bring our whole selves. You will be amazed by what he will do with that.

Take time out. “Silence is so lacking in this world which is often too noisy, which is not favorable to recollection and lis-tening to the voice of God” (Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI). Find fifteen minutes you can make silent and place God at the center of your attention.

Don’t stop with prayer. Prayer helps us to learn God’s will for us. When we act in communion with his will, it is then that our whole life becomes a prayer in action.
