Early Sign Out- Board Policy 5200: Students are to be counted

in attendance only if they are actually present for at least two (2) hours of the day or engaged in a school-approved educational

activity which constitutes a part of the instructional program for

the student. Therefore, a student released early before 10:20 am,

for students in grades K-1, will be marked absent for the day. The early release of students causes disruption to the academic

performance of all students and may create safety and security

concerns. No students shall be released within the final 30

minutes of the school day unless authorized by the Principal or

Principal’s designee (i.e., emergency, sickness).

Page 4: NORMA BUTLER BOSSARD ELEMENTARY

Every absence must be followed by a written note from home on the day that the student returns to school.

The note must include the following information:Student’s nameDate(s) of absenceReason for absenceParent’s signature

Please Note:-Students that are tardy or are released early a total of 5 times

will not be qualified to receive a Perfect Attendance Award.

-After 10 absences, a note from a doctor is required for an

absence to be excused.

Norma Butler Bossard Elementary will be monitoring excessive absences

once students reach:o five (5) or more consecutive absences (excused and/or unexcused) within a

nine-week grading period;

o five (5) or more unexcused absences in a semester; or

o seven (7) or more cumulative absences (excused or unexcused) at any point

in the school year.

When students reach these monitoring points in reference to their school

attendance, parents/guardians will receive phones calls and letters.

If students continue to accumulate absences (excused and/or unexcused) a

formal meeting will be conducted at the school site and may warrant

referral to the District’s Truancy Intervention Program.

Tardies will be monitored as well.

“Blue Chips” for daily attendance are awarded to students who come to school on time.

Daily attendance drawings are conducted during the morning announcements for various prizes.
