OUR SCHOOL DAY

• The building opens at 7:30am• Students are to be dropped off at front gate or by the

cafeteria only.• Drop off at the curb through the driveway is encouraged.• Free breakfast is served until 8:15am• Classroom doors open at 8:25am• Classwork begins promptly at 8:25am• Students arriving after 8:35am will be marked tardy.

MEDIA CENTER HOURS

•Students are encouraged to check books out from the media center.

•The Media Center opens in the morning:

• 8:05am - 8:30am

•The Media Center opens in the afternoon:

STUDENT SAFETY

• Parking lots are for Faculty/Staff only – do not block.

• No parking in neighborhood driveways.

• Utilize crosswalks at all times.

• Do not leave your car unattended with valuables inside

(purses).

• No animals allowed in the building.

• Use caution with other drivers and students in

driveway.

VOLUNTEERS• Must re-apply each year

• Must be cleared in order to participate in events

– Field trips

– Field day

– Classroom celebrations

– Birthday lunch celebrations

• Must wear yellow or blue Friday T-shirt when volunteering or chaperoning.

• Must ride on the bus – cannot be with students if not a chaperone.

• Sign in and receive volunteer pass in the office.

ABSENCES• Every absence must be followed by a written note from home on the

day that the students returns to school.

• The note must include the following information

– Student’s name

– Date of absence

– Reason

– Parent signature

• 3 or more consecutive days require a doctor’s note

• After 10 absences only doctor’s notes will be accepted

• “Zs” (zeros) can be given for unexcused absences.

– Students will have 3 days to make up their work.

SCHOOL BOARD RULE 5200 DEFINESEXCUSED SCHOOL ABSENCES AS:• Student Illness

• Medical appointment

• Death in the family

• Observance of religious holiday service when it is mandated for all members of a faith that such a holiday or service be observed.

• School-sponsored event or activity previously approved.

• Attendance at a center under Department of Children and Families Supervision.

• Other individual student absences beyond the control of the parent or student, as determined and approved by the principal or principal’s designee.

INCENTIVES AND REWARDS• Any student who has a total of 5 or more tardies/excused

early each grading period will not qualify to receive a perfect attendance ward.

• School Incentive Plan:

– I-Ready Reading goal

– I-Ready Math goal

• Incentive plan will begin the second nine weeks to allow for time to complete the I-Ready diagnostic test.

• I-Ready reading and math goal will depend on student’s level.

• An incentive will be given at the end of each nine weeks.

EARLY SIGN OUT – BOARD POLICY 5200

• No Early Dismissal after 2:35 PM (1:20 PM on Wednesday)

• Students are to be counted in attendance only if they are actually present for at least two (2) hours of the day or engaged in a school-approved educational activity which constitutes a part of the instructional program for the student. Therefore, a student Released Early before 10:20 AM, for students in grades K-1 and 10:35 AM for students in grades 2-5, will be marked absent for the day.

• The early release of students causes disruption to the academic performance of all students and may create safety and security concerns. No students shall be released within the final 30 minutes of the school day unless authorized by the Principal or Principal’s designee (i.e., emergency, sickness).

DISMISSAL• Our school day ends at 3:05 pm

• Parents, please be advised that you must have the purple dismissal pass in order for the teacher to dismiss your child-4 passes per child

–If you forget your purple dismissal pass, you must go to the main office and receive a written notification to be given to the teacher.

• If you are changing the way your child is going home, a note must be written to the teacher, even if it is for just one day. No emails will be allowed for any dismissal changes.

HOME LEARNING• Students will have home learning every day and sometimes

Friday. It will be written in the agenda and be kept in their Home Learning folder on a daily basis.

• After 5 missed Home Learning assignments he or she will receive a detention.

• During special units of study, family home learning projects will be sent home.

• Expected to read for 30 minutes everyday

• 45 minutes of Home Learning

CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT PLAN• Please review these rules with your child. Conduct grades will be based on

the observance of these rules.

• The first time a student misbehaves, he/she will be given a verbal warning.

• Any misbehavior following this warning will require your child to flip his/her conduct card on the behavior chart. • Your child’s conduct will be documented and will be used to track their conduct grades for report cards.

• If a student’s behavior becomes a problem in class, a behavior sheet may be sent home requesting a parent’s signature. This documentation will be used to determine your child’s report card grade in conduct.

• Please note that if your child’s behavior does not improve, this will affect his/her participation on fieldtrips or special activities.

THE FLORIDA STANDARDS• Beginning with the 2014-2015 school year, Florida’s public

schools transitioned to the new, Florida Standards adopted in February of 2014.

• Previously, the transition in Standards-based education was to the Common Core State Standards, which after public input and review, led to the adoption of the Florida Standards for all school districts in the state.

• Language Arts Florida Standards (LAFS) and Mathematics Florida Standards (MAFS) provide a clear set of goals and expectations.

• Define what students should know and be able to do at each grade level – kindergarten through grade 12.

WHAT ABOUT THE NEW ASSESSMENTS?• MAFS and LAFS will continue to be assessed with the

new Florida Standards Assessments (FSA)

• The 2008 Next Generation Sunshine State Standards (NGSSS) remain for Science and Social Studies

• Science FCAT 2.0 continues as the grade 5 Science assessment

• Elementary school assessments will include:

–English Language Arts (ELA): grades 3-5*

–ELA Writing Component: grades 4 and 5

–Mathematics: grades 3-5*

–4th & 5th grades will have Computer Based Testing

– If a student owes money to the cafeteria, he/she will receive an alternate lunch each day until the balance is paid in full (cereal/milk)
