SHINE A LIGHT ON MOUNT CROSS OFFICE VOLUNTEERS Many people may not know about our office volunteers. One important group is the newsletter preparation group. This same loyal group comes each month to fold, sticker and put labels on the 200+ newsletters we send out. This is time con-suming process, but our group is efficient and makes this big task fun at the same time. Thank you so much to these vol-unteers, the office manager appreciates your help so much! Another important position in the office is that of proofreader. We have folks who proofread the weekly bulletin and the monthly newsletter. Our proofreaders fix everything from typos, grammar, typesetting to liturgy. These proofreaders have sharp eyes and their work helps keep our worship and communication materials accurate. We have folks who come in and answer the telephones when the office manager is away. This is a blessing to allow the office manager to have time away on vacation. This will also be a great help in the interim time until our new office man-ager can begin work at Mount Cross on August 19. These folks have to manager visitors, phone calls and answering lots of questions. Thank you to these volunteers for their patience and good cheer in doing this work.

If you can help in the office answering phones between July 1 and August 16, please send an e-mail to [email protected].

Dear Mount Cross, I say good-bye for now, but I will be back in August to train Carina. I am sure I will see some of you around as this area is small and the Lutheran world even smaller. I have enjoyed my years here at Mount Cross and have loved getting to know everyone. Thank you for welcoming me, helping me and praying for me. Thank you so much to all who have helped me in the church office with the newsletters and the proofread-ing. Thank you for letting me start the meditation group, Mondays have been very special for me. I am happy to report that this group will continue meeting at 1:10 PM each Monday afternoon. If you haven’t tried it, I highly recommend. I will miss you and I know that all will be well at Mount Cross. With peace, Sheri

Request from the Synod Justice Team: Help with Refugee Families from our Southern Border

We now have five Central American refugee families (formerly separated from children who were taken from them at the border) who are staying with host families in the Los Angeles area while they wait for their asylum re-quests to be processed. We desperately need grocery store and CVS cards ($20 or $50) to help their host fami-lies pay for food. None of the refugees can work until they get their work permits in six months or so. If you are moved to help, please give your gift cards to Melissa Henry.

Thank You Thank you to all of the people who have been picking me up and bringing me to church and then taking me back home. You are all sweet, sweet people and I thank you! - Evelyn Lacy

Watch For Camarillo Health Care District Classes on Church Campus-Mount Cross

partnering to serve members & community Based on an early interest, it looks fairly certain that the Camarillo Health Care District will hold one or more classes on the Mount Cross campus this fall. This partner-ship has been promoted to make use of the church’s fa-cilities to best serve our members and the surrounding community. The most likely first classes will be A Matter of Balance 8 weeks (instruction and exercise), Tai Chi For Arthritis 10 weeks (beginning), and/or Dealing with De-mentia 4 hour workshop. Watch for information on scheduling and registration in church publications and District materials and please invite your neighbors and friends. All selected classes will be offered without a charge. Mount Cross members with questions can con-tact Susan Prosser at [email protected] or by phone.

I do not see how we could have come to know the greatness of God without that hint furnished by the greatness of the material universe. - C.S. Lewis, from "Dogma and the Universe"

Mission of the Month: July 27 - Habitat for Humanity Build Day Come out and help build the two new homes on Barry Street here in Camarillo on Saturday July 27th. Foundations will be poured and we should be starting to frame the walls. All training and tools will be supplied and you don't need to have prior construction experience. This is a good way to put the tag line "God's work our hands" into ac-tion as we work along side the two low income families that have been selected as partner families for these homes. The Habitat Vision is "A world where everyone has a decent place to live" and the Habitat Mis-sion "Seeking to put God's love into action Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build Homes, Communi-ties and Hope" are both items to inspire our Christian beliefs. The work day will be from 8:00 to 2:30 and lunch will be provided. To learn more about Habitat and to sign up contact Gordon Henry on the church patio on by phone at 805-279-9250.

Wednesday Evening Pot Luck and Film July 10 at 5:30 PM

Please join us as we continue our summer series of Pot Luck Dinners and a Movie on Wednesday July 10 from 5:30 until 7:30 PM. The discussion and movie will be on the complicated causes of Hunger and Food Waste. We will be looking at the issues of Factory Farming, mono crop production, chemical fertilizer use and the resurgence of farming methods that are practiced in a more humane and sustainable way. This topic was inspired by the recent viewing of "The Biggest Little Farm" a documentary about the transformation of Apricot Lane Farm in Moor-park. A title has not been selected as we review lots of options from the Camarillo library and newer on-line sources concerning these issues. The Pot Luck will start at 5:30 with the movie beginning at 6:00. Also, mark your calendars for Wednesday August 7 and 23 as we look at other topics to share to raise our understand of issues that impact God's creation and our lives. More information will be provided in the Sunday bulletins and on the Patio. Hope to see you there!
