NextGen PM Enhancements
1. Patient Portal Enrollment Indicators The following new indicators have been added to the Practice Management application to inform users when a patient is enrolled in the Patient Portal:
A new icon has been added to the Appointment Book that will display in patient’s appointment information designating that the patient is enrolled in Patient Portal.
A new column in the Patient Lookup screen displays information about the patient’s current enrollment status with the Patient Portal.
On the patient chart a new icon displays when the patient is enrolled in Patient Portal.
On various reports a new column has been added to display each patient’s Portal enrollment status.
2. Reporting Enhancements
New updates have been added to multiple reports that provide more options in reporting on specific data from within NextGen Practice Management. Specifics include the following:
Added patient email address and phone number information to multiple General, Accounts Receivable, and Scheduling Reports.
Added Patient Contact and Insurance Policy information fields to the Service Item Summary and Daily - Encounters Reports.
Added new columns to the Unapplied Credit report that allow users to quickly view encounters where existing unapplied credits can be applied to a charge.
Enhanced the "Find" feature within the PM/EHR reporting modules to allow users to search and locate all instances of specific terms within the report.
3. Patient Correspondence Redesign of Letters – PM
A new format has been adopted for how users create and edit their letters within File Maintenance. In a similar fashion to Forms and Labels, users now access the data repository and its large number of fields to pre-populate their letters. Furthermore, the following new letter formatting options similar to Microsoft Word are available in the Letters editor:
The ability to insert tables, images, or text boxes

Application of styles and formats (e.g. bullets)
Creation of multi-page letters
4. Billing The enhanced COB window has a new user interface that improves support for all non-primary (secondary, tertiary) EDI claims (837I, 837P and 837D). Charge, transaction, and adjudication information now displays separately for each payer attached to the encounter. This new functionality allows users to easily view and update line item information before electronic claims are created.
Update to application of ICN number in Claims – Billing staff New options have been added to the payer master file that allow users to define which Internal Control Number to populate on resubmitted and COB electronic claim. These options include:
Populating the Internal Control Number on resubmitted claims
Populating the claim with the Internal Control Number from the previous payer in the encounter
Also, users can now manually enter the Internal Control Number from the chart that will populate onto resubmitted claims.

Also, a new alert has been added to inform users when charges are rejected.
5. Insurance Selection The Insurance Selection screen is updated with new visual indicators that allow users to quickly view patient insurance information during the check-in process without opening the screen. If information is missing or needs to be updated, quick navigation to the appropriate screen is available by clicking on the indicator.

7. Receipts
**DO NOT USE** This new functionality has been found to be faulty and should not be used. Incorrect practice remit to information is printing. An account receipt can be generated from an account transaction during the posting process or it can be retrieved from the patient account summary tab at any given time. All payments applied at the account level for multiple patients and/or multiple encounters can now be documented and printed.

8. Optional Practice Preferences
Patient Communication Preferences – All staff (focus on registration) o New communication preferences have been added to the Patient
Demographics screen that allow the practice to record how each patient prefers to receive notifications from their provider. These recorded preferences can then be utilized to engage patient populations using the NextGen® Population Health module and/or EDI automated voice reminders.
Discount Transactions – Billing Staff o A new feature has been added to allow posting of discount transactions
directly to the encounter from the Charge Entry screen. Users have the ability to apply the discount at the line item or encounter level, and their amounts can be defined by percentage or dollar amount.

Sub-Batches do not Require Payments – Billing staff o A new option in Practice Preferences allows users to post transaction
sub-batches without having to enter in the number of payments within that sub-batch. Sub-batches provide a mechanism to allow multiple users to enter transactions into one batch that is balanced collectively at the end of the day.
Bad Debt – Admin Practice Preference o A new practice preference option will prevent encounters from moving out
of the Bad Debt status when they reach a zero dollar balance, enhancing reporting and tracking capabilities.
