The highlight in the lead up to the production has been the enthusiasm, team spirit, co-operation and support that the students have demonstrated to each other. Some final reminders:- Students should arrive at the venue at 6.45pm on their performance evening After the concert the students will be brought out to meet their parents. They will all have to quickly change out of their costumes but this should only take about ten minutes. We will inform you of the collection arrangements at the end of each performance. Parents are reminded that as indicated on your tickets, videoing of the production is not allowed. Please respect this request. Apart from being illegal due to copyright restrictions it can cause angst for people in nearby seats if their view is obstructed. Thanks for your understanding of this. You will have the opportunity to purchase a DVD of each concert at a later date. I would like to thank the teaching staff, particularly Clare Hyland for her expert leadership of this production and all the parents who have been involved with making costumes, props etc. Without your help there would be no production! I would like to welcome back Kris Moore after her period of leave, we hope she is refreshed and revived and ready for the rest of a busy term. 2015 Term 2 June Wednesday 10 School Production A L Cast Rehearsal at George Wood PAC 9am 3pm CANTEEN CLOSED Thursday 11 M Z Cast June 19 Curriculum Day Friday 26 End of Term 2 dismissal at 2.30pm Term 3 July Monday 13 Term 3 commences Tuesday 28 ICAS English Competition Wednesday 29 Year 6 Incursion August Thursday 6 HART ART Opening 7.30pm Friday 7 HART ART Sales Saturday 8 HART ART Main Day Tuesday 11 Maths ICAS Competition Wednesday 12 Book Week-Whole School Incursion Wednesday 19 Hartwell House Athletics Years 3-6 Monday 24 - 28 Year 5 Camp September Friday 18 End of Term 3- dismissal at 2.30pm October Monday 5 Start of Term 4 Thursday 15 Year 2 Sleepover Thursday 22 Italian Day November December Thursday 17 Year 6 Graduation Friday 18 End of Term 4 dismissal at 1.30pm

PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS Parent Teacher Interviews will be held in the last week of term as follows: - Monday 22 June – Preps Tuesday 23 June – Year 3 & 4 Wednesday 24 June – Year 5 & 6 Thursday 25 June – Year 1 & 2 Friday 26 June – Specialists. The booking system will be live at 9.00am on WEDNESDAY 17 June at 9.15am .You will need to book your times early as allocations are on a first come, first served basis. Teachers will allocate 15 minute timeslots for each interview and will commence interviews at 8.00am and conclude them by 7.00pm. It is a huge help if you are able to schedule an interview during the day as this helps free up evening time slots for those parents who are unable to attend during the day due to work commitments. The venues for each teacher’s interviews will be on display in the school office and the teachers will let you know where they will be holding their interviews. SCHOOL SPONSORSHIP I am very pleased to announce a new major sponsor of the school. For the next two years we will be partnering with Jellis Craig who will be sponsoring our major events of the Great Fete, the Hart Art Show and the Market Night. This enables us to have access to advertising boards, marquees, an auctioneer and the ability to advertise school events through Jellis Craig. I would also like to thank and acknowledge Fletchers for being a major sponsor over the last two years. STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT - CHESS CLUB Last Wednesday was the final session of the Lunchtime Chess Club for this term. We had 53 enthusiastic participants from Prep to Year 6 who spent the 50 minute sessions learning the rules, new strategies and playing games against each other. The sessions were run by Northern Star Chess who provided the equipment and coaching expertise. The students were divided into three groups and awarded certificates for taking part in the program. Three students from each group also received medals.

They are: Beginners (Prep & Year 1) Gold: Matthew WS, Silver: Freya K, Bronze: Julia A Intermediate (Year 1 & 2) Gold: Andrew BF, Silver: Charles N, Bronze: Stephanie C Advanced (Year 3 - 6) Gold: Ben B, Silver: Harrison W. Bronze: Sarah T & Joseph H. For the first time, four students from Years 4 and 5 represented Hartwell at a Chess Tournament run by Chess Victoria recently. They were Ben B, Krish G, Joseph H and Jacqui T. They each played seven games and competed very well in

their first tournament experience. Most of all they all had a lot of fun. Details about Chess Club in Term 3 will be in next week’s Newsletter. Reminders

PE UPDATE BOROONDARA DIVISION CROSS COUNTRY What an exciting day for our Cross Country runners who competed at the Boroondara Division Cross Country Championships last Thursday. You could feel the anticipation and adrenalin in the air, of what started out as perfect racing conditions. However, the grey clouds loomed and very soon the rain came down. To make things even tougher, the start of the Ruffey Park Lake course went straight up hill and did not get much easier from there. Nothing deterred our team though, who all showed their true Hartwell spirit to push themselves harder than they had raced before. The quality of racing was extremely high as you would expect when the best runners in the division come together. Our Hartwell kids should be extremely proud of their efforts as they all put out superb performances. Congratulations to: 9&10yr boys: Isaac E (12th), Bowen H (14th), Cooper M (18th) and Campbell D (DNF unfortunately Campbell rolled his ankle near the fast and furious start and could not continue the second half of his race. A brave effort Campbell.) 9&10yr girls: Ella R (23rd) 11yr boys: Lachie F-B (23rd) Luke K (24th) 11yr girls: Ginger O (18th) 12&13yr boys: Jordan M (15th), Hugh K (17th), Dylan E (23rd) , Ed C (Unfortunately Ed was a late scratching due an injury he sustained earlier in the day playing school football.) 12& 13yr girls: Saskia H & Julia G (equal 31st well done girls!)

Thank you to all parents (and grandparents) for your support and arranging to have your children at the event in good time. It was a terrific experience for the runners to compete at division level and get a taste of stronger competition and a tough XC course. They handled it extremely well. Well done Hartwell!

HOOP TIME This Friday our Junior Hoop Time All Stars teams will travel to Nunawading Basketball stadium for their round robin day. I realise this will be a big week with our wonderful Beauty and the Beast production coming to fruition. However, these basketballers do need to be at school and in the gym by 8.50am as the bus will leave the school at 9am. Thank you. Go Hartwell!

YEAR 6 SPORT Last week we travelled to Camberwell South Primary school for interschool sport. Congratulations to our girls’ netball team who finally cracked it for a win 24-9! As I have said, this team gets better and better with every match and last week it all fell into place. Well done girls on your determination and perseverance, a well-deserved win. Our mixed softball team lost in a tight one 9-7, but did well to remain composed under some testing conditions. The girls’ team also went down, but showed great skills once again. Our footballers kept on their merry way with another big win by 46 points. Mr. Lee’s soccer team once again dominated 7-1. This week we will host Ashburton PS. Well done to all players on their great sportsmanship. It is pleasing when a teacher from our opposition emails me with positive feedback regarding this. Go Hartwell! Have a great week.
