The PSSA competition will commence on Friday 29 th April. Team members will be announced early next week. Harmony Day Harmony Day celebrations were held last Monday. This is one of our many occasions where we celebrate diversity across our school and community in general. Thank you to Ms Mayes, Mr Shiels, Mrs Burn and Mr de Silva who shared their stories of their heritage. This was a highlight for the children and a great opportunity to showcase our cultural diversity here at Woronora River Public School. Our whole school group artwork has added colour to our school hall. Harmony Day has been coordinated by Mrs Webbey and Mrs Begg this year and we thank them for the time they put into organising this event. Easter Hat Parade Our annual Easter Hat Parade was held last Thursday. Students from Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 presented their impressive hat designs and sang beautifully. Thank you to the older students who assisted with hat making. It was wonderful to see to the collaborative efforts across the school. Thank you to Mrs Webbey for coordinating this event. Thank you to Mrs Hudson for organising another very successful Eggshibition. The Easter raffle was a huge success with many families of the school winning prizes. Thank you to the families who sold tickets at Southgate Shopping Centre. A total of $1972.55 was raised. Parent-Teacher Interviews Our parent-teacher interviews are currently being held and will continue into Week 11. We are using our online booking system again for appointments. Go to schoolinterviews.com.au and enter the code epms3. We look forward to discussing your child’s progress with you if we have not already done so. Mufti Day Our school SRC will be holding a Mufti Day tomorrow Friday 1 st April. Please ensure clothing is appropriate, particularly for PSSA trialists who will be completing their trials. A gold coin donation will contribute to funding the Year 6 Farewell. Professor Maths Incursion Our Professor Maths incursion is being held next Tuesday. This presentation will allow students to explore mathematics in hands on and practical, fun ways. Thank you to the families who have already returned permission notes and paid for this event. Payment is now due at the school office. School Development Day As part of the ongoing initiatives of the Community of Schools Between the Rivers (COSBtR) a combined School Development Day has been scheduled for Monday 16 th May 2016. This means that students do not attend school on this day, only staff.

School resumes for Term 2 on Tuesday 26th April 2016 and students should be in attendance on this day. Battery Collection Do you have old batteries at home that you need to dispose of in an environmentally friendly way? If yes, you are able to drop them off at our collection bin, located outside the school office. The collection will continue until the end of Term 1. SLiPS Day On Wednesday 23rd March the school leaders went to The Jannali High School for the Student Leaders in Primary Schools (SLiPS) day. We were broken up into smaller groups where we participated in workshops. We all learnt a lot including: how to achieve our goals; if you think about something the right way you will have a better chance at achieving it; how to care for our environment and everything in it; and how we can work together as a team and as a school to achieve our goals. We had a great day with school leaders from other schools in our area and we look forward to the rest of the year at Woronora. Amy, Mollie, Tim and Harley ANZAC Service The school will be commemorating ANZAC Day on Wednesday, 27th April. All members of the parent body and community are welcome to attend. Students are asked to bring flowers and greenery to make floral tributes for our fallen soldiers. The leaders and choir will be representing the school at the Woronora RSL’s ANZAC commemorations during the school holidays. Thank you to those students who are able to give up some of their holiday break to attend the services. Winter Uniform Students can begin to wear their winter uniform from Week 3 of next term (Monday 9th May). Boys wear long grey trousers and long-sleeved light blue shirt or skivvy. The girls’ uniform consists of a winter tunic with light blue blouse or skivvy. Girls are able to wear navy blue tights or white socks. Girls also have the option of wearing navy school pants. For sport, students are able to wear the school royal blue trackpants. If you need any new items, please visit the Uniform Shop on Monday mornings at 9am.

Canteen Please note the canteen is closed next week and for the first week of next term. There are no lunch orders available. Stewart House Stewart House bags were sent home to each family today. Please return them by Friday 29th April. Extra bags can be collected from the school office. Working with Children Check A Working with Children Check is required for any parent or community member who wishes to volunteer their time assisting the school. A form can be completed at school and 100 points of identification shown. Currently this process can be completed at school or online at http://www.kidsguardian.nsw.gov.au/working-with-children/working-with-children-check

As of 2017 the Working with Children Check can ONLY be completed online and all volunteers will be required to have completed this process by downloading the appropriate forms from: http://www.kidsguardian.nsw.gov.au/working-with-children/working-with-children-check Once you have received your WWCC number, please present it to school along with 100 points of identification. The WWCC is valid for 5 years.

Parenting Teenagers for Busy Parents

This course, presented by experienced family therapist Yvonne McDonell, is designed to assist you with the skills and information you need to parent your teenager. We will take a little time out of our busy lives to meet other parents, and have fun as we discover: The course will cover:

What makes the Teenage Years so difficult?

How to communicate with your teenager

Raising the Self Esteem of everyone in the family

Teaching Teenagers to take on more responsibility

Issues that present problems such as social media, drugs, teenage anger and lying

When - Wednesday 11th May from 7pm to 9pm with an informal chat for the last ½ hour Where - Orana, 3a Stapleton Avenue Sutherland The course will run for five weeks. For those parents who are interested in developing their skills further, an advanced course will be offered in Term 4 and attendance at the Introductory Course will be an entry requirement.
