FATHERS DAY LUNCH Dads were invited to bring their lunch to school

on Friday and share lunchtime with their

children.

FATHER’S DAY LUNCH “Ding ding” went the noisy school bell at approximately 12.40pm on a rather warm but slightly cloudy day. When I glanced out of the window I couldn’t believe my bulging eyes. My dad was finally here with our Subway. After a while I couldn’t keep track of where I was sitting. After we had eaten I put the rubbish away. Then I surprised Dad with a massive hug and said “Thanks for coming. It was spectacular!” It was hard to let go but he had to go to work. “Bye bye Dad.” By Hunter Compton

FATHER’S DAY LUNCH “Ding Dong,” went the bell as Room 7 ran zooming out of the class trying to find someone special. “Dad!” I yelled and gave him a huge hug. It was time to eat….Subway! In my delicious sub I had the most juiciest pork riblet - so yum! “Oh no, I left the cookies at the shop,” Dad giggled. “It’s fine, I don’t care, I said. “Now, can I take you around the school?” I said. “Totally!” Dad replied. So around the school we went. My back was getting so hot I was nearly sweating! “Ding dong,” the horridly loud bell went again for the end of lunch. “Bye Dad,” I yelled from the other end of the court. “Bye,” Dad replied. YEAR 4 MUSEUM SLEEPOVER

On a beautiful afternoon all the Year 4’s gathered into their car groups and we were off to the Museum. AS we started coming into the Museum we went through Discovery World and laid our bags down. The staff members, Ashley and Nick told us the rules, then we had afternoon tea. Next we had to go on a treasure hunt in different galleries to find certain things. Then we all did a role play of the life of an animal. My group’s play was about a moa. Thirdly, we all got to finally playing Discovery World for 45 minutes. There were a lot of fantastic things to do - like air hockey, a piano and the ball machine. Then we all had pizza - delicious pizza. We had to choose from Hawaiian and meat-lovers or both. FINALLY - the night walk. We all had to hold onto each other’s shoulders after they explained the rules. They said that if we set the alarms off they could lose their jobs, so we had to be VERY quiet. We set off to Animal

Attic where Ashley told us a story with scary noises, but everyone knew it was the parents. Afterwards the lights were turned on and the alarms were off. We got our sleeping bags and put them down in Discovery World. In the morning after everyone woke up and got dressed we had ricies for breakfast and met Kim. Kim was going to tell us about Greek heroes. Kim set up a huge Orb and we all crawled inside. She told us about Hercules for a while and then about Orion and we did a role play about him. The characters were Sam, the Cyclops, Ethan was Orion, there were a lot of men and women and the Elements. After that we went to the park to play. We had morning tea and then were off again to play netball and football at the Edgar Centre. We went to Moana Pool and had Subway before we jumped into the pool for two hours! The pool got flooded by another school so I went on the hydro-slide. After a long two days we all came back to East Taieri School. By Ben O’Connor

DISCOVER SCUBA TRIP WITH THE SPORTS ACADEMCY

On Friday the 26th of August the Sports Academy children went to Moana Pool to

learn how to dive with tanks. We did a Discover Scuba certificate with Emma from Dive

Otago. On the Friday before we had our 1 hour theory session to learn the signals and

what to do, then we were allowed to go under the water. We had to wear a full dive

jacket with all the bits hanging off it to help us breathe and stay safe under the water.

The first breath was amazing because you needed to keep breathing normally and

were all used to not breathing under water. We had to equalise our ears to be able to

go deeper. We got down to about 4 - 5 metres deep. After we were finished we

played in the wave pool and had a very long shower. It was so fun and we want to do it

again whenever we could.

QUICK-WRITES FROM ROOM ONE

Pushing down the mountain at high speed towards the pristine

aquamarine coloured lake, that shimmers up at me. The mountains capped

in white snow, pierce the pale blue sky as the clouds all different shapes and

sizes rush across the sky in the howl of the wind. It whips my face like a

horsewhip. The meadow green grass waves up at me like an old friend

saying hello. As I continue to descend the mountain the track wraps

around the lake like a snake.

By Ewan Beadell

I race up the sheer trail, blood pumping, rushing through my veins. I can

feel the cold breeze on my face. I come over the hill and see the beautiful

mountains covered in snow, like flour on bread.

Then I become airborne, flying through the air. I land with a thud and

coldish wind is blowing around me. It feels like it’s going through me. I

can see a structure, it looks like a dam. The lake water looks greenish blue

and the sun’s heat is beaming on the it.

By Nick York

Zooming down the track, adrenalin is pumping through me. I soar around

the corner and I spot the glistening aqua lake in the distance. The vast

mountains are piercing the bright blue sky. Leaning forward I realise how

skinny the trail is and that there is no room for error. My wheels are

spinning faster than my legs are pedalling and I almost fall off as I skid

around the corner. My heart is pounding in my chest. “Will I make it down

unharmed?” I feel like I am on top of the world!
