Jack Buckskin performed and entertained us with an acknowledgement of country and deep insight into the playing of the didgeridoo.

    CULTURAL CELEBRATION

WELCOME TO COUNTRY WITH JACK BUCKSKIN The culmination of learning was celebrated at a school assembly. Jack Buckskin a respected member of the Kaurna Community opened the assembly with a captivating welcome. We were guided in the importance of culture and schooled on how to play a digeridoo. Jack welcomed us to country and our students displayed their new skills in singing and music, guided by the collaborative work of our teachers.

Students voices were heard, they all played a part in contributing to the music by playing a variety of instruments from boom whackers, to Ukuleles to homemade bush instruments. The PAC was humming with rhythm, song and pride for their own culture and the culture they had been immersed in for the term.

COOKING KEBABS Mona M volunteered to come and cook up some traditional Kebabs. This cultural focus provided opportunities for creativity and critical thinking skills, as well as strong curriculum knowledge.

  • CULTURAL CELEBRATION Research shows that sharing and learning with peers is a good motivator to higher order thinking. With everyone involved, the opportunity to work within different learning areas and with buddy classes created an environment of respect and acceptance.

This project included not only all our students but involved parents and our community, which was challenging in these COVID times and we would like to thank all parents that volunteered.

We were lucky enough to have Rinnah G, and Meenu S, come and share mehndi and many of us offered our hands and arms as canvases to their lovely designs. To finish off our Indian Art focus students in Room 5 and Room 6 decorated the garden with chalk Mandela’s.
